Good Morning!!!
Feeling a bit Alice through the Looking Glass this morning but this too shall pass.
Food porn good. Like yarn porn, yarn porn is also good.
yesterday went for drinks with co-workers and had much fun reading mixed drink menu. I think next time I go out I shall order wacky mixed drink instead of medicinal red wine. Pretty much same price and so much more interesting than house red.
Right now it is cloudy out but supposed to be sunny and fine all weekend. Off to the blueberry farm tomorrow--after I pick up the case of apricots (Sunday is Jam Day)--teenage house guest from Saturday to Tuesday. Much much to do and so very little time.
Is it 4:30 yet? Can I go home now?
sigh.......

Re: "...my Mom used to go to the dump with her boyfriend and shoot rats." Well, my dad used to go to the dump with his girlfriend (prior to my mom) and shoot rats. And that's not code, either.

IJBCA, I got your note (thanks!), but 'm no longer where you thought I was earlier in the week. (That is code.) Beautiful place, LBTL (?). I really need to go back there when I have more time to explore and enjoy. It was just a stop-over this time, en route to someplace else. Next time, eh? (That's Canadian-speak. I am not Canadian; I've never lived in Canada; but I did live really close to Canada for awhile and visited there before such trips began requiring a passport for re-entry.)
This is just another drive-by post, while I wait for something else to happen. Oh, and Jancie -- on that step-child thing: I hear you. My interactions with my step-child were prickly for several years, until the step-child grew up and I became more confident in our relationship.

Ooooh, looky, new subversives! Welcome ritak, maryny and lLost_Creek! BWAHAHAHAHA!! Odd ... The whole phrase evil scientist cackle only shows up as evil ... Has my post been hacked, or is it the damn iPad again? (I am not a scientist, nor do I play one on TV, nor have I ever been compensated by a scientist to act like a scientist or laugh like a mad scientist....) But I digress.
Food porn! Now you're talking! I used to be a foodie until I married DH, who only ate about 10 things when I met him, most of them pale (chicken, white gravy from a packet, mashed potatoes). He eats about 20 things now. I still look at food porn, though! He looks at sailboat porn.
This morning's dr. appt was good -- I LOVE my gyn! She is so wonderful and smart and 1000% on my side. She spent an HOUR with me, catching up on all my presurgery stuff and my upcoming surgery and everything. When I said I was keeping her too long and she had a whole waiting room of patients, she said, "You need me more than they do right now. I'll catch up with them, but you need me now." How cool is that?!
Gonna get a new CPU this weekend ... The old one is toast. I think it was both an intractable virus and a hardware failure. I have my eye on several different ones and will look at the sale papers and then I will have a desktop again. I will make sure it has the latest code translation software installed.
Hugs to all and I had a panini for lunch. I forgot what that is code for ...

Vacation starts in the morning! Just have last minute packing to do (why does last minute packing take hours??)
We're headed to Peru to hike the Inca Trail to Macchu Pichu--a bucket list trip. I'll let you know if I see any UFOs (Shirley MacLaine swears they're there!)
Keep the B&G open for me, and y'all try to stay out of trouble, okay? See you in a couple weeks!!
-
WOW, Iread the menu, and feel like I should be taking statin drugs! Also drooling, but deep fried pickles? really - I always thought my Southern friends were making fun of a Yankee about that - and wold soon say, "bless her heart."
-
Have a great trip, Anne!
-
Anne, sounds wonderful - will we all fit into your suitcase? Have a fabulous experience - take pictures.
-
Anne - watch out for altitude sickness (but silly me, you are an experienced mountain climber). Have a wonderful trip, take lots of pics!
HL -- about your computer problems, just a word of advice: Once you've had a Mac, you'll never go back-:) And, if your doc is going to spend that much time with you, be sure to book the first appt of the day!
-
Good one " Once you have a Mac you'll never go back" seems to me I've heard something filthy similar to that - but it's probably just me......................,
-
Hahahaah, Linda ... I've heard that, too. Since I still have a big HP lcd monitor, I'm not quite ready to cross over to the light yet .... Next replacement cycle, maybe.
And yes, I had the first appointment of the day at my gyn. Gosh, she is wonderful!

ooooooooooooooo, Peru! Anne, I am jealous. Eat lots of that lovely roast chicken with green sauce that they make in Peru. . . .hmmmm maybe thats what we should have for dinner tonight!
quick phone call to DH to confirm that peruvian roast chicken with potatoes and salad is the perfect thing to consume while watching original version of "Captain's Courageous."
Now where was I? Oh yes, altitude. Altitude is tricky. So far I have not had any altitude problems but I have only been up to about 11,000 feet. We went hiking "up" this past weekend--first time for big and middle monsters. Big monster got dizzy---did big monster tell me he felt dizzy? NOOOOOOO, big monster just kept hiking along snowy goat trails dizzy with steep slope on one side and multi-hundred foot drop on other! where is that fainting emoticon?
HappyLibby, I vote mac as well. And I don't even own one. DH has an Ipad and Love love loves it. . .do you really need a big lumpy bumpy computer? what about a spiffy ipad with a keyboard attachment?

So pissed...............went to Trader Joe's to get my Tart Cherry juice, and they only had 2 on the shelf...................the woman said everyone is buying it like its a magic potion.................told her it helped my aches and pains, and she said " ok, they that is why"............................Their warehouse is out of it ................and they don't know when it will be coming in.........figures.
I can get it online, but you have to mx it yourself, and I can tell you right[ now..............that won't get done.......................oh well...........at least I got 2 more bottles...............damn it.................
-
3M, I loooove the green sauce too... I always get extra when I get Peruvian chicken. Anne, you are going to have such great fun ... Lots of pix for us homebodies, yes?
Ducky, that is interesting about the tart cherry juice. My TJs had a bunch on Sunday, but stuff goes fast around here. Good luck in finding it again ... Maybe at Whole Paycheck ..er...WholeFoods?

Anne -- wow, Machu Picchu! Have a wonderful, wonderful trip!
[Wikipedia tells me that Machu Picchu is 7,970 feet above sea level and Boulder is 5,430 feet -- so maybe the altitude adjustment won't be a big deal for you? But Cuzco is 11,200 ft and Lake Titicaca >12,000 (don't know if you'll be stopping there)]
The closest I'll be getting any time soon is "Senor Pollo" -- Peruvian takeout between work and home, with roast chicken and 2 kinds of green sauces ($9 for half a chicken and 2 sides), and papas huancainas (slices of boiled potato and hardboiled eggs, under a sauce of roasted yellow peppers and black olives! Five dollars!)...

Happy Libby..........................This stuff works............I was shocked..........I have arthritis, and a bad knee, and it did help.........Plus I didn't know it contains Melatonin, and guess what..................I was sleeping much better........................I know lots of places to get it, but I can't find anyone who has it pre-mixed..................most available is concentrate, and you have to mix it yourself...................I know me.....................but if that is my last resort...........I will do it....................Whole Foods only has concentrate too............thanks, and hugs

The tomatillos in my garden are going WILD. Guess I'm gonna' have to look up some green sauces. Right now I just cut them up in salads. They are VERY easy to grow, prolific, self seed if anyone is interested in growing them.
-
C-Sunflowers you are not my friend anymore. . . .
Tomatillos hate me. I planted them in my community garden when I lived in La-La land. I dreamed of green salsa.
I harvested one tomatillo. Ok, ok, I exaggerate.
I harvested two tomatillos.
I am to tomatillos what DH is to Cascade hops. . . .thus far this year, he has killed two healthy Cascade Hops plants .....ask a PNW person, a native type, if they even knew it was possible to kill hops......we are thinking to make money by hiring DH out to stand next to people's hops so as to kill them......
-
oooohhh...I just googled, and wiki says something about them needing to be placed with other plants so they can be pollinated??? Dunno.. I got mine, cuz some I fogot about got mushy in veggie compartment of fridge, tossed onto patch of garden, and they made themselves at home. VERY much at home. Not as bad as the Jerusalem aritchokes ( sun chokes) - which are, IMHO, worse than bamboo - who knew????? They came in mulch from a farmer friend - was "warned" to remove them ASAP, but thought I'd enjoy eating a few. They're harvested after frost, when tops (very tall, small yellow flowers die back) good cooked, shopped up in stir fry, fresh in salads - but the NEXT year - toooooooo funny to describe - did ou ever play "whack-a-mole" Well, no matter how much you dig, pull up the roots, they persist. The good news is now lots of my friends use them as "borders" on some of their fields.
Will go ask one of my Tomatillos what they need to grow

Explanation of chicken fillets: Mary is right, I think I did mention it on these boards once. We have a comedy show here called Kath and Kim - very low class aussies with very exaggerated accents. Over here they do call the things you put in your bra to boost your breast size, chicken fillets because they do look like real chicken breasts. In one episode, one of them found them in the kitchen and cooked them, thinking they were real chicken breasts. Of course they tried to eat them without success. It was funny at the time.
Good to see you here Mary!!
I tried to sleep in seeing it's Saturday but no such luck.

Yup. I did read it correctly.
Often self-incompatible, tomatillos need a second plant to enhance pollination and guarantee fruit set.
They are growing up , many of them, in between my sun gold tomatoes. SO, maybe did you plant them in a very separate, isolated area. I'm not kidding - they grew from moldy old mushy forgotten in the veggie compartment - they are prolific. But I guess they like company?
-
I live at 7000 feet, and generally can hike to 13,000 feet with a little shortness of breath and some mild nausea. But last time I had to sleep at 11,000 feet, I had altitude sickness for 2 days. So, we have 3 days to acclimate in Cuzco, and I do have Diamox to take preventatively...
I hear Peru's "delicacy" is guinea pig. Not sure I'll be up for that. Probably tastes like chicken.
-
Just been reading that review site - totally sick!!! No wonder BCO banned them. BTW - I'm not the Susie over there, I actually removed my review as I didn't want to be associated with that place. I do like the nice Greta's though. Now they're quoting Bren about going to the dump. Talk about pathetic!!!
Sue
-
No worries, susieq. Karma's a witch. ;-)
-
E, duh. Just exhausted but you got my drift.
Anne, how cool to see Machu Pichu. Sigh, maybe someday!
Finally back home and just ordered up a Dewars and water from the BCO B&G. Ahhhhh.
-
E, Anne might be eating guinea pigs in Peru. Uh oh.
-
Anne would not do that, would you, Anne?
-
(Paging through code book....guinea pig, guinea pig....think I have an old edition.)
-
No Anne wouldn't, would you?
-
Athena, I will send you a GP PM.
LOOK FOR IT.
-
Anne .. have a great time in Peru. What a wonderful adventure! But please don't eat the guinea pigs.
Barbara .. glad to see you're back safe and sound! What a grueling trip that was. Hope things work out the way you want them to.
Susie .. I know that's not you at the review site.
Dinner was spaghetti, salad and garlic bread! Yum!
hugs,
Bren
