Bren, I didn't read the entire link you post, but I will later.  However, I did see her being referred to as a "politician".  At this point she is not.

Ya know, I don't care how much anyone destests her, it is just wrong to not admit she got it right.  Did anyone listen to the guy on NPR who happens to be a historian?

I have no idea why everything she says is reported.  Do any of you remember Obama screwing up many times?  I can find them for you if you want.  One thing I'll never forget since he's the Commander-in-Chief is that he pronounced TWICE while reading his telly the word "Corps" as "corpse".  Really? 

They all screw up, but Palin is crucified for anything that she says.  If it sounds wrong..it's reported on.

This is not OK. In an appearance on Monday's "The Adam Carolla Show," comedian Christopher Titus implied he'd want to take Sarah Palin out of the presidency were she ever to be elected to it in the first place, according to The Daily Caller.

Palin's newly notorious Paul Revere remarks came up for discussion and Titus had this to say: "You know what, man? I am going to literally - if she gets elected president, I am going to hang out on the grassy knoll all the time, just loaded and ready - because you know what? It's for my country. It's for my country. If I got to sacrifice myself, it's for my country."

Palin's probably not afraid of any puffed-up comedian - she is Mama Grizzly, after all - but Titus should immediately clarify the implications of his comments or retract them entirely. Anytime I come across stories like this one, I'm always reminded of Teddy Roosevelt's famous "man in the arena" quote. How easy for Titus, from the comfort and relative obscurity of "The Adam Carolla" show, to criticize Palin in such an over-the-top and inappropriate way! How much harder to say something meaningful about her policy positions or past accomplishments. Hardest of all to actually be funny - but isn't that a comedian's job? Palin's Facebook posts are better practice for the presidency than Titus' trash-talking is for primetime. I'm not surprised his sitcom on the Fox broadcast channel lasted just two years.

P.S. Shouldn't this deserve a little attention from the opponents of Palin's crosshairs poster - you know, from avowed and profound proponents of civility (a cause I believe in whole-heartedly, but I hope not hypocritically)?

It doesn't bother me when the President makes a mistake in pronunciation or Biden uses the "F" word.

The "real history" is that Paul Revere was indeed sent on a stealth mission (that is, quiet and secret) to warn Samuel Adams, John Hancock and other Sons of Liberty that the British were coming to arrest them.  He was knocking on doors.  He wasn't ringing any bells and firing shots!  The mission was not "to warn the British."  When he was captured by the British, he tried to scare them by spinning a yarn that they would be under imminent attack.  That's what the letter to Jeremy Bentham said.

As BinVa said, at best Palin misspoke.

Hi Shirley. Missed you. Hi Patmom, missed you, too. I personally think Palin misspeaks but in the Revere case, if even the bastion of progressivism, NPR, thinks what she said was close to accurate, I don't know what to tell you.

Whether or not Palin actually knew the true history (and I'm thinking she maybe knew bits and pieces, but not the order, because the version Bren posted is the one I learned -- yes, we were taught American history in Ontario high schools! --) her biggest problem is not being able to communicate.  And this is surprising, given that she claims a degree in Communications.....  And it does get a bit annoying that every time she's asked a question by anyone other than her Faux News compadres, she says it's a "Gotcha" question.  Excuses, excuses.  No wonder her number are so low; people do get tired of trying to decipher her word salad answers.

Hi, Shirley.  I'm gonna skip the Palin discussion except to say that the reason I don't .... .... oh, heck.  No, I'm gonna skip that part, too.  You're right, though -- Ms. Palin is going to get lambasted no matter what she says.

And, speaking of what people say... that's why Weiner is in so much trouble, IMHO.  I heard a comment by a political-type person the other day, who said it's not so much the act a public person commits as it is the lies he or she tells to cover it up. (Just like PatMom said a few posts ago.)  If people just did sleezy things in private and then 'fessed up to them upon discovery, most of those people would skate.  They find themselves in serious trouble if they lie and deny involvement, a la "I-DID-NOT-HAVE-SEX-WITH-THAT-WOMAN!!!". (Even he managed to wriggle free, despite the lies.)

It is true, though, that the news media, and even the general public, seem much more interested in monitoring and reporting on sleezy behavior than was the case a hundred or more years ago.  Personal privacy was respected then; but it isn't anymore, except in very narrowly defined situations, like a public person's minor children.

I think it's the entertainment value of the sleeze that's so attractive.  Media outlets sell that cr*p, and people buy it.  Look what's happened to formerly respectable TV channels like "Headline News," which is no longer news at all; and "The History Channel," which shows back-to-back episodes of Pawn Stars or Swamp People now, instead of history.  People don't like to be informed anymore -- they won't pay for it. They just want to be entertained.

For instance:  a young child was killed in a town in Florida, and her mother is on trial for the crime.  How many hours of national news coverage does that one particular crime warrant?  How many other young children were killed, or died tragically, during that same period of time, but we've heard nothing about them?  Is it really necessary to describe -- on prime-time news -- the use of a cadaver dog to sniff out the smell of decomposing tissue in the trunk of the suspect's car?  Does the nation really need to know that the suspect used her computer to search for information about "chloroform" on the internet?  When does that stuff become TMI???  What even makes it newsworthy, besides the fact that people claim to be interested in it?

<sigh>  I'll slink back into my shady spot now.

This was not a scholarly attempt at a more indepth history lesson.  It's just what fell out when she opened her mouth. 

So why can't she just admit that it didn't come out exactly as she intended or some such other remark.  A little grace and wit would probably work wonders.  Instead she has to go into full blown hostile, defense mode and claim that everybody is just 'picking on' her.  It makes her look like a cranky toddler.

Hi everyone!!  I'm enjoying the cool, cool weather of Dublin with my daughter.  Did I mention we stopped in the Moneygall pub that Obama visited?  We met his distant cousin, Henry, and chatted with a lot of locals about the visit.  They all love him, and no wonder!  They think he's quite an improvement over the previous version of President. 

I'm sorry to hear that the US is sweltering in yet another heat wave, but glad that I chose this time to escape it.  Hopefully I can stuff some cool weather in my suitcase and bring it home for y'all.  

As far as Palin, well, you could stretch it to say she was metaphorically relating bells to lights, since the lights were hung in a steeple (where bells usually ring), and the warning shots were just...um...Revere's verbal warning "shots" to citizens, which in turn could be construed as shots at the British, since they were, like, the enemies there at that time.   Also. 

If you take out the shots and the bells, she's fairly close to the truth.  But as someone who was fresh off an educational tour about Revere, couldn't she have done any better than that?  She's not just happily ignorant, she's PROUDLY ignorant, which is much worse.  Have any of you ever heard her admit that she misspoke?  Got something wrong?  Made a mistake of any kind?  No.  And she never will.  When did ignorance become a virtue?

And with that, I'm off to the wilds of Ireland!

I seldom visit this thread and I see that over the months there has been no change.

I would have expected that the liberal women here would be posting daily reports of the magnificant successes of the Obama administration.

Where are the boasts of the wonderful improvement in the housing market, the joy at the number of unemployed who are now finding well-paid jobs, the pictures of local gas station signs featuring prices lower than in a decade, the smiling faces of citizens of all races and nationalities coming together in civility to celebrate the new order and dine together on affordable food, the happy teachers in their classrooms teaching, instead of on protest sites, the joyous welcome for our troops as they, in accordance with Obama's promise leave the war zone, the calming of the winds and seas?

Instead, what I find is "Palin"..."Palin"..."palinpalinpalin"....blithely living rent-free in the minds of liberals and press nation-wide.

I have deduced from this phenomenon that some women here have discovered the real nature of breast cancer! It must be caused by the evil Palin and her conservative tea party hordes!

Why else would so much energy be expended in demonizing her every word and action?

She MUST be defeated as the personification of the invading cells of BC must be!  Then, we can all join together in our pink shirts and skip towards the future, victorious!

Dang. Is it Friday already?  I didn't think it was, so I'm not quite ready for Brussel sprouts. How about ASPARAGUS?

Last night we had grilled lake trout (caught by dh from Lake Superior last summer), a teeny baked potato with a dab of low-fat Ranch dressing (way better than sour cream), unsalted/unbuttered sweet corn, and homemade strawberry ice cream for dessert.  It might not have been all that healthy, but it sure was tasty!
