Well the munchkins were bored with the power outage the first night,"I can't color it's too dark." They came out to Grandma's and my house was full of cell phones computers and rechargable batteries charging. They only lost power for about 24 hours, thank goodness. Other people around here still have no power. there are trees and junk everywhere but not too bad
-
Rosemary .. it doesn't surprise me that the grands would be bored within 24-hours! I was bored within 10 minutes of being without power!
Hope all is well in your area. We are having a heat wave again today. Upper 90's and the heat index is up around 108. arghhh! I'm hiding out inside the house with the A/C on.
hugs all round,
Bren

It is hot and humid here and thundering again. A storm is coming this evening and then we are supposed to have warm dry weather. That will be such a change.
I drove thru the south end of town this afternoon. There were spotty power outages, a lot of big trees down and no school. A lot of schools were without power and one had a roof blown off. I only saw one house with a tree on it but I know there are more. I hope things get bak to a more normal state soon.
-
Rosemary .. it's in the upper 90's here, with a heat index of 110. It's too hot to water my flowers. Hopefully, I will get to them early in the morning. We still have lots of trees down from the storm the other day. No rain in our forecast though.

The heat index here was over 100 degrees today. I saw a very scary documentary on Nat Geo about the floods that have gripped the world lately, most likely due to global warming. They noted that Australia had recently seen floods that covered an area the size of France and Germany put together. To say nothing of Japan and our tornadoes here, of course (which are an indirect result of flooding). This is too awful. Maybe soon Sarah Palin won't just see Russia from her yard - she will be swept over to it in a flood. Ah, one can always dream.
Stay dry and hydrated, everyone!

The $7 Trillion Lie: Palin Falsely Claims Debt Has Grown More Under Obama Than ‘All Other Presidents Combined’
By Judd Legum on May 31, 2011 at 11:18 pm
Sarah Palin, in the only interview she’s granted during her “One Nation” bus tour, claimed that the U.S. federal debt had grown more under Obama than “all those other presidents combined.”
Watch it:
This is flatly false. When Obama took office the debt stood at $10.6 trillion. After inheriting two wars and the worst economy since the Great Depression, the debt has grown by $3.7 trillion since Obama has been in office. Palin is off by about $7 trillion. So not only has the debt not increased more under Obama than all other Presidents combined, it has increased less under Obama than our last president, George W. Bush. Under President Bush, who inherited a $236 billion budget surplus from President Clinton, the deficit increased by $4.9 trillion.
-
Don't be deceived by the "budget surplus of 236 billion". The debt when Bush took office stood at 5.786 trillion.
From NPR -
How do Bush and Obama compare on closer inspection? Just about like they do on an initial glance. According to the White House's Office of Management and Budget, during his eight fiscal years, Bush ran up a total of $3.283 trillion in deficit spending (p. 22). In his first two fiscal years, Obama will run up a total of $2.826 trillion in deficit spending ($1.294 trillion in 2010, an estimated $1.267 trillion in 2011 (p. 23), and the $265 billion in "stimulus" money that was spent in 2009). Thus, Bush ran up an average of $410 billion in deficit spending per year, while Obama is running up an average of $1.413 trillion in deficit spending per year - or $1.003 trillion a year more than Bush.
-
Remember that the deficit and the debt are not the same thing. The following is interesting:
How Did the Debt Get So Large?:
Government debt is an accumulation of budget deficits. Year after year, the government cut taxes and increased spending. In the short run, the economy and voters benefited from deficit spending. Usually, however, holders of the debt want larger interest payments to compensate for what they perceive as an increasing risk that they won't be repaid. This added interest payment expense usually forces a government to keep debt within reasonable limits. The most recent budget forecast from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) showed the FY 2011 budget deficit at $1.3 trillion, more than the $1.17 trillion deficit for FY 2010, but down from the $1.7 trillion deficit for FY 2009. This was a result of the economic stimulus package, the 2008 government bailout measures and the roughly $800 billion a year defense/security spending. The deficit is also caused by reduced income from the recession, as well as the EGTRRA and JGTRRA tax cuts and the Alternative Minimum Tax patch. (Source: OMB, Federal Budget Deficit) -
Where is everyone. Guess we're all busy now that spring has finally sprung.
My little Virgil fell down the stairs on Monday and sprained is back leg pretty bad so I've been busy icing, medicating and treating him like the prince he is. The vet checked him and didn't feel any bones were broken but he is still favouring the leg. Might take a few more days I guess.
-
Poor Virgil ... hope he gets better soon. Fair warning ... I had a cat who had a paw issue at one point and for the rest of her life when she wanted extra attention she would come limping at me
I am up, dressed and have been to the grocery store and home again. For anybody who knows me this is a miracle. I'm a night owl and not a morning person! Had to deliver Jake to the groomer this morning for a bath and those silly people think you need to have them there early.
Do we have any northeasterners here who were in the path of the storms yesterday? Hope everybody and everything is OK!
-
Blue .. I'm so sorry to hear about Virgil. Poor baby, but I know he is getting lots of attention.
Rabbit .. that is so funny about your cat. I have no doubt that Virgil might use the same strategy down the road.
I ran over another turtle with the riding mower. That's twice now! Somehow they fall out and manage to live. I found the second one in the garage yesterday when I backed out the mower. Bless his heart, he was scared. When I saw that he was moving I was able to pick him up and put him back out in the field. I just can't figure out how they live when I mow them up. These are big box turtles too. I can't see them when I'm mowing in the tall grass.
Hope everyone is having a good day. I'm so happy because Mr. Tim came home this a.m. Yay! He's been gone for almost two weeks.
hugs,
Bren
-
Blue, so glad Virgils OK. You need to baby him!
YAY, Bren's DH is back and we know what that means! -
I got a good chuckle out of this.

I got a good chuckle out of this.

I thought we weren't talking about her. I wish she would open her mouth with far less frequency.
-
I love me some Sarah Palin .. that woman is so freakin' funny!
She gives me a good chuckle!
hugs,
Bren
-
Blue, I heard that clip on Progressive talk radio this morning, and it cracked me up! I needed that good chuckle!
-
Wish she would brush up on her history. Can't depend on old movies as sources, because it looks like she has trouble understanding those too. What a dunce.
-
OMG, Blue - that's hysterical! She's a real piece o' work.
-
As someone commented, it's turned into a "tragical history tour"
.
-
Here's a toast to Blue's Virgil and Barbara's most resilient turtles!
I would like to propose a toast to everyone's mental health, too.
I am not really following the campaign yet. I am still suffering from pundit-toxication in 2008!. I might not blink an eye until the republican nomination. Meanwhnile, let Sarah Palin waste the country's time and lower the level of intellectual and moral discourse. At least she feeds the pundit class. Jobs are always a good thing in uncertain economic times.
-
Well, she's taken her "show" on the road. I wonder if Bachmann will try to outdo her.
-
I'd love to see those two gals in a cat fight. Watch the fur fly. Or maybe they'd run together?? nah...
-
Oh boy, that would seal the deal for Obama. Even diehard republicans would never vote that ticket!
GO CANUCKS!!!
-
Looks like that smart high school gal from New Jersey should be challenging Palin to a history/constitution debate as well -- maybe she could debate the two of them at the same time!
GO CANUCKS!!!!
(Barbara, sending smooches for your support
!)

Where is everyone?

BarbaraA:
I've been wondering the same thing but I am guilty of lurking lately instead of posting. I am waiting on my onc. appointment on Tuesday for results and of course that has set me to cleaning, running errands and going for many long walks - anxiety reigns!

My iBM ThinkPad finally packed up, but DH set me up with an old laptop and is now convincing me to switch to Apple. Oh dear, another thing to learn and fiddle with!
Great game last night -- the Canucks are full of surprises! that wraparound goal a few seconds into overtime was priceless!
Sandy, we'll be with you in the waiting room and in the onc's office on Tuesday with fingers crossed for great results. And just think -- you'll be coming home to a clean house!
Hugs to all!
-
My frozen shoulder has been in the way of my non-existent typing skills. But I did go to my nephew's confirmation today. Will post some pics tomorrow. Sandy, fingers and toes crossed.
GO CANUCKS!
-
Sandy, I will be there with you with everything crossed!!
GO CANUCKS!!
