Kad2kar .. Congratulations to your granddaughter.  I will never forget when Luke graduated from UCSD ... the proudest moment of my life.

Jackie .. What the hell is that guy thinking?

Wabbit .. Glad to hear all is well with Daisy.  My Mags has been having some trouble breathing walking back up the hill on our daily walks.  I hope it's just cause she's getting old at almost 14.

Putting in only the link here since my C & P don't do well.   http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/05/03/alabama-chief-justice-declares-that-constitution-only-protects-christians-video/  I think this nut case must be taking lessons from Palin.  He says only Christians are protected by the Constitution....REALLY.  As the article mentions as the bottom this guy's judgeship???should be revoked forever.   He has been in trouble before.

I am a Christian and yet when I read things like this.....can't help but think.....wow, there are many who call themselves that who are going to be soooo surprised when they open the door of the great beyond.  We don't get to pick and choose and interpret unless it is for ourselves --- foisting it all on others, and I think even more so when your in a position such as this judge, and demanding others adhere to how you SEE things is not spiritually lawful nor worldly lawful.  It is definitely not his place and think it is past time that he be put in the place he belongs.  Out of the court system entirely.

The above is just because  I'm  extremely ( you can't believe ) weary of ( after lo this very long, long time ) the rt. attempting to instill into Benghazi a scandal that was never, ever there.  It is the only possibility they have because everything else is going fairly well.  There have been massive efforts to undermine and destroy a Presidency ( watch out, the tail back there might be your own as your gobbling away ) and it simply isn't working.   So keep ( excuse me E ) flogging the very cold and dead Benghazi horse for all your worth.  Gives you something to focus on no matter how un-productive it might be in the end.   Of course, this scandal that isn't allowed to die has been about as production as the Obamacare repeal that fizzled long ago.  It is going to stay that way and I will have to learn to live with seeing and hearing about all the wasted productions.   Nothing that actually gets you something  is ever wasted but so far its a big zero.

Just as my dear departed American uncle would never, ever recognize what has become of his beloved Republican Party today, so too those of the Christian faith surely must be saddened at what the Tealibangelicals have done to their religion.   That disgusting Alabama Chief Justice is the prime example.  For a group that claims to idolize the American Constitution, they have done their best to bastardize its intent and meaning.  Very, very sad.

Jefferson would have been very surprised at the definition that has been given to the First Amendment by the Alabama Chief Justice.  I believe he defined himself as a Deist, but not as a Christian, as defined by the right wing, i.e. believing that you need to accept Jesus as savior.

Going to read Jackie's link now - confirming as correct, TJ called himself a Deist - NOT a Christian...and we can later discuss why he cut out parts of his bible ;)

If anyone finds Spring, could you please give Her a map to find western MA.  Ta.

OK - ready for the SNL version of that idiot ( a justice?) yikes, version of that video.  Really - just disregard anyone who doesn't believe a book called "the bible" should be the basis of all life, law, politics.  So, my friends, we now have the "Christian" version of Sahriah law.  Seems the same to me.

Here is a link to the Jefferson Bible and Thomas Jefferson's views on Jesus and Christianity from his own words and letters.

    http://www.angelfire.com/co/JeffersonBible/

Jefferson clipped out the sections of the New Testament regarding the divinity of Jesus and omitted the resurrection.  He saw Jesus as a great moral philosopher. Jefferson was not a Christian.  He was a Deist.

For those who have heard again and again that the USA was founded as a Christian nation, here is a link to the Treaty of Tripoli, approved unanimously by the Senate and signed by John Adams in 1796-97. http://www.stephenjaygould.org/ctrl/treaty_tripoli.html  Here is Article 11 from the treaty.

Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

I can't do a link right now, but a Bible testament written by Barnabus has been made public.  The Catholic Church is not going to like it.

    The epistle or the gospel?

Gospel.  If you google "gospel of Barnabus " it will come up.  Interesting stuff.

Given that we know that the church decided which books to include in the bible and then changed some of them (ie: maiden became virgin) I don't quite understand the way people pick and choose what they believe.  Certainly there are relevant stories, but most have several interpretations.

pip...I think this is one of the MAJOR problems in the religious world today.  The Bible has been rewritten ( disclaimer here ) I think about 26 or 27 times.   When the book 'first' began things had such a far, far at times different meaning than it does today.  People then did not have knowledge as we have it today which is why  there were parables ( as those were so much easier for the people of those times to understand )  and why things can become confusing now.

As for me, I don't consider myself so much religious as spiritual.  I have known people who can "quote" tons of Bible verses and that is wonderful.  If they are willing to take the word out of a book that has been changed as often as that book, fine, ok.

I also think what if your surgeon, your oncologist or your work-place  re-wrote things to suit themselves.  Thank goodness we have a Constitution and other such important documents.  All just to say, my yardstick ( and I have found it time after time the most reliable way for me ) is to read, and think about something.  When I listen to the voice inside  ( we are all very old souls and actually have all the answers we will ever need about anything ) I will know how something fits or not as the case may be.

Naturally, I spent a fair amt. of time not trusting this as the way to deal with my life, but once you have come up short a few times you get it.  It's not scientific and there would be plenty of nay-sayers.  That is all right.  I don't have to pay a bit of attention to them.  They are not living my life and they are free to get their answers in whatever way they choose.  My answers are my responsibility and I will go with what has proven to guide me and keep me safe from a number of things that would have caused great harm.

Just got to thinking.....I'll just put in another thought or two......I figure since politics and religion evoke such strong opinions that I would just reiterate right now....I see only blue lines at the neighbors.  There is another place that tends to discuss subjects that we all like ---pffff.  Discussions here are meant for the people here.  What a time waste to always feel the need of comment.  Strange form of personal entertainment I suppose.  I can't see any other purpose.  Obviously I do check things out now and then, but the occasions are rare.

Good reading, The Gnostic Gospels by Elaine Pagels, also the Gospel of Thomas, same author.

Thanks for the details, notself, don't think the reality/truth about TJ "fits" the Republican party talking points...

Hello all - back from Denver with semi-decent news; most likely no progression, but a big swelly area in my brain. It could be cancer but is more probably a result of treatment I had last year. I have been having all sorts of weird symptoms - balance and vision problems mostly - so I was pretty freaked out. On to steroids. Swelly brain is my excuse, now what is Sarah Palin's? This May I start my 10th year with MBC and 19th since original dx. Yay me!!!

    Congrats to E!!!

Special hello to AnneW. We were neighbors in Boulder - in the mountains, so wave across the valley sorts of neighbors. Anne, we are in Gunnison now, still own the house, hope to be back. Went to Asheville last spring and had a wonderful time. Thought of you. Succinct writing b/c of eyes.

So nice to be back on Blue's thread again.

    Hey Sandy,

So good to see you.  I am really sorry to hear about the brain swelling.  I hope the steroids do the trick and the swelling goes down.  I didn't realize that could be a side effect of gamma ray treatment.  I think it's hard to gets rads anywhere on your body.  My left breast is still messed up and my surgery and rads were 7 years ago.

Congrats on the 10 years ... that's a huge milestone!  It's good to see you posting again!

    hugs,

    Bren

Sandy - adding my congrats to bren's - and hoping you are soon celebrating the Snoozful results which E has ( Snoozful being much better than Boring!)  No Progression sounds like the glass is definitely more than 2/3's full.

Steroids, of course, are excellent to reduce swelling, and the Best reason to eat chocolate, or whatever else is your favorite.

My only gripe, and it's such a boring one, is having to put on the heat on May 4.  Still below freezing at night.  Too strange. Day time temps in the 40's is NOT May.  Looks & feels like I flipped the calendar months too early.  Did I mention how strange this is for us.

Big decision: I am having the winter tires replaced with summer tires on Tuesday in the fond hope that there will be no more freezing weather for driving.
