As far as people like Palin, they beg for what they get by putting their stupidity on a national level.  If you count Russia, then even a bit further than that.

While it's true that you can't always tell a book by its cover (!) sometimes outward appearance CAN tell a lot about a person's thoughts and abilities.  Palin was "put together" by the RNC during the 2008 campaign and she looked so "respectable" that many folks didn't pay much attention to what she said.  It wasn't until the last few weeks of the campaign that Americans discovered that she wasn't very aware of a whole lot of stuff, and that she didn't "mind" at all when her audiences started making racial statements about Obama.  In fact, she encouraged it.

Since then, and without the cover of the RNC, her outward appearance, her behaviour and her truly obnoxious rhetoric have shown us the real Palin.  With her latest nastiness (waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists) even the teavangelicals are starting to desert her.

Enjoyful ... so happy for the news about your scan!  Hope you have a good day and can celebrate by going for a ride on Sampson.

Re Palin's appearance ... I think she brought it on herself.  I honestly think she loves being Caribou Barbie.  I agree with Carrots, while the Republican campaign was dressing her and doing her make-up she appeared to be a genuine candidate, especially with the speech she gave at the convention.  I thought she did a good job with that speech and looked great.  But when it all fell to pieces, we got a look at the "real" Palin.

I had the worst migraine yesterday and last night.  Have a migraine hangover today.  argghhh.  Need to get cleaned up and go to the store.  I suspect it was allergy related as my car is covered in green pollen!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day,

    Bren

    Happy dance for Suz's news!!!

I personally have mentioned the personal appearance of the pasty faced, fat bellied, triple chinned, sloppy or smirky looking guys too.   And the Rambo wannabes prancing around in their costumes and showing off their guns.  Equal derision for fools and poseurs.

yup, what C4C said.  But Kam is so right, just "jealous." One of my favorite stories was about how she used gubmint $$ to get the tanning bed installed in her gubners's mansion.  Hysterical!

I was tickled the article I linked was on the BBC.  That's prime reading all over the world...so we're not the only ones chuckling.

So representative of what our (USA) can't speak for others, has become, IMHO, about NOTHING/NADA/celebrity for being a celebrity, talk show realism - awesome a reality show about someone's personal life, divorces - MY GAWD - we should call this culture the Death of PRIVACY (pronounced correctly as the Brits do) I find it SO sad.

Whoo hoo - the stable boy is dressing better and better and moving up in the world!  Congrats, Suz!

My comment about the Tundra Tart's looks was in direct response to Kam's joke that liberals are jealous of Palin because of her looks and intellect.  Yeah - neither.  I am not jealous of her looks for the reasons stated, and she has all the intellect of an eggplant.  Overripe.  Otherwise, I don't care about her looks although I do agree with C4C.  I noticed immediately that she was unable to maintain her physical apppearance to the campaign standard after they lost.  She can look however she wants, but I will never envy what she looks like.

E - that great news. Hope there is more sign of response next scan.

We're off to Sth Australia today for bubby's 2nd birthday - can't wait to cuddle him. He actually tried to say Grandad the other night and he said Nana Nana a few times, so he really knows us. It's a lot of money for a 4 day weekend but he's worth it. We're not staying with them as their home is too small but we aren't far and intend to spend every minute with him. Going to a wildlife park on Saturday about an hour's drive out of the city - it will be interesting to see his reaction. He has recently learnt to say lion.

Suzie - you sound so much in love!

E - happy dance for you.  You go to Dana Farber, right?  How's Sampson?

Governor Rick Scott (R) goes to a senior center in Boca Raton and finds mostly praise for Obamacare.  Ofcourse, that bunch was also smart enough to know his company bilked Medicare before he became Governor.  The fact is, Obamacare will hurt Republicans this fall - people are figuring out the GOP is only pro-corporations.

Catching up with reading. Suz great news really pleased for you.

Plain is unbelievable. We know person who is trying to get high position in our church nationally and she is so like Palin. I was discussing the situation with someone and actually called her Palin. What worries me is that the fundies will actually put her in because they can manipulate her. People are nuts the world over

Just two weeks until I set off to Prague and then UK and then Toronto. So excited. C4C I will be on touch.

    Good Morning Gals,

I'm up early this morning.  Have lots of mowing to do today.  Not looking forward to it, as the pollen count is huge and I sneeze the whole time I'm mowing.

Notself ... Where are you going? Please don't stay away too long ... you'll be missed.

Alyson ... Sounds like you've got a great trip coming up.  Will you be seeing the Canada gals while you're in Toronto?

    hugs,

    notself

Since I was (maybe?) the origin of "the looks" discussion, though in my mind, intellect, is my personal judgement criteria when it comes to Palin, I want to clarify the origin of my comments came from one conservative commentator saying us liberals are jealous of Ms Palin. When you speak to someone at this level, well it's kind of like that old saying when you lie down with dogs and fleas and all that stuff.  That comment had to be rooted in looks as why would a liberal be jealous of Sara's politics?

In my world, Palin is judged no differently than the Louie Gohmerts, Rick Perry's and Rand Pauls...intellectual lightweights...those that have risen to positions beyond their abilities.  They all have a brand though and I have no doubt that Sara herself knows her looks are part of what sells hers.  I think, long ago, Sara herself gave up the idea of being a serious anything and is about enhancing her own wealth....via "cute" catch phrases and "cute" clothing, using that zealous and gullible rightwing crowd that eats this stuff up....not realizing how embarrassing she is.  I don't at all equate criticism of Palin here as offending gender political etiquette, though in defense of myself, I tend to refrain from the cutesy names and just prefer to say things like she has meatballs for brains.

    where is notself going?

In honor of Enjoyful, I think we should have a new category which is better than Boring, and that we call it SNOOZFUL...

Evidence of medication working = EMW, but I like snoozful even better - LONG MAY WE ALL BE SNOOZFUL.

My lily of the wally are poking up their little green shoots!  YEAH, I transplanted a few from a friend's garden, they do grown wildly, and think they like it at my house too.  JOY.  ADORE the smell, and lilacs, JOY.

I remember how outraged many were when comments were made by the right about Michele Obama's looks.  It seemed to be just as offensive to make similar comments about Palin's looks.  Men are attacked based on their policies, their lack of intellect, their actions.  Women are most often attacked because of their looks, hair, dress.  By continuing to attack women based on such things we are saying that their ideas are not worth commenting on whether those ideas are worthwhile or ridiculous.

Rush Limbaugh caused outrage on the left by calling Sandra Fluke a slut, yet we, on this board see no problem with calling Palin a tart.  Both words mean prostitute.  Again, such comments diminish women's ideas and actions as inherently frivolous and not worth serious comments or criticism.

When I tried to point out that such comments whether by men or women were inherently sexist, I was told by to "raise my hand and put it over my mouth."  One can hardly get more sexist than that.

Palin opened herself up to such comments.  There is absolutely no comparison between Palin and Michelle Obama.  They are both attractive women and that's where the similarities stop.  All I know for certain is that Palin was no Geraldine Ferraro, Elizabeth Dole, Hillary Clinton or Betty Ford.  She played to her base when the campaign started to go off target.  Even John McCain was concerned about what was happening and he was powerless to control the situation.

I thought Michelle Obama looked very pretty with bangs.  I don't believe saying that diminishes from her accomplishments as a lawyer, mother and First Lady.  Speaking of hairdos, Hillary Clinton's hairstyle was always a topic in the media.

Is Palin a tart?  I have no idea.  I referred to her as Caribou Barbie.  But since it appears she will do anything for a buck and attention, maybe tart does apply.

Palin is an attractive woman.  It's really all she has going for her because she has no real ideas or knowledge and her comments tend to be stupid to the point of hideous.  If she was frumpy she would have been gone from the scene long ago.  It's what she's selling ... so I don't feel bad about commenting on it.  I personally am jealous of her hair.  But not to the point that I would want the empty head underneath it.
