I wonder just how safe the plastic they used to make Tupperware 30 years ago was. Some of it doesn't smell too good. I notice people selling old Tupperware on Ebay - I really can't be bothered. I know a lot of it was still ok, but why keep it when I really don't use it.
-
BREN-----Beautiful pictures of a beautiful yard. BUT OMG & BY GOLLY, there is a lot of snow!!!!!!
All of you gals -- STAY SAFE!!!!!!!!! Dont do too much shoveling it tires me out.
I am the band with Stevie Nicks
SUSIE----You are tiring me out, although I did get 6 black trash bags of stuff off to Goodwill.

Suzie - I don't think some of the Tupperware made today is safe. Thirty years ago - I think that had to be a worse time for chemical use. I use a site "Environmental Working Group" to determine which items are safe (cleaning, food, etc.), but I found this article in Popular Science (can't cut and paste, so I'll just type the link in):
http://www.popsci.com/earthtalk/article/2008-08/ho...
Personally, I use glass. BPA is basically a synthetic estrogen!
Oh, besides EWB mentioned above, the breastcancerfund.org is an organization dedicated to eliminating exposure to toxic stuff that causes breast cancer. EWB provides the list for the "Clean 15" and "Dirty Dozen".....produce you can buy conventional and the ones you need to buy organic (i.e. high pesticide residue).
-
Kam - I use glass in the microwave now - I do use Tupperware bowls and strainer and some containers for flour etc but that is all. I must say some of the old stuff really stinks.
KadKar - I didn't really do that much - only washed the floor in 3 rooms and cleaned out a couple of cupboards.
I called and booked the pest man for Thursday week, it will give me next weekend to wash the other floors - no more cupboard cleaning for me

-
This happens at my house so often.

Mammo all fine - 7years from mx. Have had a couple of nasty scares but now NED. Do love that stable boy.
-
yeah, Alyson. So happy for you!
-
congratulations, Alyson!!!
-
I actually miss Steve - very lonely here - don't know how you cope Bren when Tim is away.
I double checked the Tupperware I was throwing out - no change - let it go - who cares. I did ring and book the pest man for next week, so I will have to clean the rest of the floors next weekend.
-
Alyson - fabulous. You must feel SO GOOD after hearing that news.
Snow. Light, crunchy, sun dazzling white snow. But STILL, it's getting to be a bit much. We're used to a New England winter, but this is so different. Guess everyone all over the world is thinking pretty much the same thing. Wish we could send some of this out to CA, as rain. These extremes, what's happening in England, and CA - must be connected.
Really think we all have to think about how to conserve water no matter where we live. I remember so many years ago, as a young teenager,h when we were taught NOT to let the water run when we were brushing our teeth. Can't remember how much water the developed world would save, but it was an incredible eye opener. Using rain barrels, turning "lawns" into food productive land - tho some housing associations still fight that one. Wonder if this is talked about to young kids in schools today?
Learning how much water is used in getting "natural" gas, fracking, destruction of water tables all over....grim, grim, grim.
-
Excellent news Alyson. I am pretty much the same dx and tx as well as timing, although you trumped me with the + nodes. Way to go!!
-
Great news Alyson!!!!
-
Alyson+++++++++Hmmm, no snow today but woke up to cold temps, then rain that of course, froze. Not going out till just afternoon. Temps are due to climb to almost 40 and the glazed ice should melt.
Here we are once again with the extremes. It has made for something of a tiresome winter. Too much ice, too much snow, too much artic bone-chilling air. Sigh !!! I can thrive to an extent with a couple of challenges, but this winter they have been rather constant and I'm soooo ready for us to get into warmer all the time. This week's temps are actually supposed to remain at a fairly good level. Hope, hope, hope.
Heard on the news this a.m. ( nothing new to me ) that one party has no one to run....well, yeah, that's true so just remains to be seen who we will run.

Yay Alyson!
Sunflowers, I too wish we could send some of ours out West. We only got about an inch of snow yesterday but we're supposed to get another 3-6 this evening and overnight....seriously have no idea how we're going to pile it up higher than we already have it. I think we'll have to get the wheel barrow out and move some. Our house has never flooded but there have been years when it's flooded all around us. I'm afraid that with the spring thaw any additional rain is going to make it one of those years.
-
Actually...I'm all right with Monday.....it is just the darn ice. I'll be starting my work day late.

-
Dreaming!!!

-
Alyson & Pip - 7-8 years and counting. You are role models. Happy happy.
Jackie - I want to paint that picture!
Yes, our drought in the West means a dip in the jet stream further to the east bringing you guys all the weather, though we've had dribs and drabs of rain in February. We've had a total of 5" since Oct 1, 3 of those inches in February, at our closest station. I think 60" is our seasonal normal, but need to look that up. Our snow pack is at 5% of the average April 1 maximum. Our closest dam is less than 65% capacity. My new raised bed for lettuce, etc. is being constructed as I type.

Read or not as the case may be -- I did not get to watch MTP but did see a little bit of the segment wehre Romney was talking and just wondered how the writer of this piece felt. Well, I think he felt something like I did. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/02/16/1278028/-Hey-Mitt-Romney-Shut-the-Up

It's lovely here in Florida. Not a cloud in the sky.

Really hot here - I decided to wash my car when I got home from work - got it booked in for a service tomorrow and was embarrassed how filthy it was - all clean now but the inside needs doing - didn't have time to do that before it got dark - another job for the weekend.
