Ah, but if it is light and fluffy, the sun will melt it fairly easy.....and if you have moved it out of the basic walk-ways which is all we did, then hopefully you can get around ok.
Kay, I do have to admit, Dh has a snow-blade for our garden tractor and can move enough snow off our drive-way so that we can come and come from our rather large parking area. Our deck is fairly large as is the walk-way to the deck which is also wooden.....35 or so I think feet......never measured it --- just know it is a lot of shoveling to clear us out for getting to our parking area. We don't bother to clear the drive-way if it doesn't reach any more than 6 to 8 inches as we can still move our cars in 4-wheel drive.....but anything more and we just about have too. Mainly as we have to back up and then back around to be able to face the part of our drive-way that takes us out to our lane. A bit tricky now and then ( especially when there is some ice ) but so far-so good.

I cant imagine shoveling snow! I raked rocks today for about 3 minutes. So as I said SNOW,no way. All of you stay safe, take care of your backs when shoveling. How about your heating, do you all have to do something weird when turning on your heat? Has it even been OFF for a while? Anyway everyone STAY SAFE and WELL---------------kad2kar
HUGS and SORTS

Kad - a light snow fall is much easier to shovel than rock! It's mostly just a matter of pushing it aside and then heaving it to the top of the snow banks. We can't count on it melting quickly here - likely another couple of months before mud season begins.
-
Kay .. you tickle me!
River .. it's still snowing and piling up. We'll see how high it is by tomorrow at lunch time. That's the soonest I could make a little path through it. I did clear off the steps once already ... need to do it again so the dogs can see where they're going.
Hugs everybody,
Bren
PS .. Kad2kar .. lassie is right .. it's easier to shovel when it's fluffy .. you can kind of just scoot it off to the side with the snow shovel. Plus, the snow shovel is very light, not heavy like a regular garden shovel.
PPS .. River .. just checked with NOAA again. We are forecast another 10-14 inches through tomorrow. But then Friday afternoon it supposed to get up to 42 degrees. I may just let it melt and not worry about being able to get out.

Raked rocks? Huh? You have a Japanese garden???

GG - here's to a BORING BORING BORING visit with your doc. Still understand the anxiety, even now, 7 years out, I get freaky weeks b4 my visit. Don't expect it ever changes.
RL - welcome home. Hope you get enuf so my little friends can go sled riding in Bethesda.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the "cat traps"
Once again, we've gotten an exact prediction for snow: 8 to 16 inches. And people get PAID for saying this?
-
ok gloating. Sorry. 68 degrees tomorrow and it couldn't come soon enough as it was freezing again today. I need my sunshine!
And if the weather person got it wrong he better run, my cane has four thumpers on the bottom and I'm prepared to use them.........TOWANDA!

It was on this thread that I first heard of a derecho.... Who ever introduced us to that term turned me into a bit of a weather nerd. Not so much the weather, but the words used to name the phenomena.
-
oh and River Rat. Thank you for the link to Diamond Dust. To think I have lived my whole life without knowing that that sparkly ephemeral beautiful experience had a name.

Morning Buddies,
The snow is up to Tank's belly, so that's about 9-12 inches. Poor guy, he doesn't mind the snow when there's only a couple of inches of it. He kind of freaked out with it being so deep. Hopefully at lunch today I can shovel an area big enough for him to pee in!
Wondering how much snow Libby got and if the capital is shut down. The snow just continues to fall here. Still can't get the gate to my driveway open. Maybe I'll just let Tim worry about that whenever he comes home.
I feel so happy this morning, I've actually had dictators I can understand. Have just a minute while I wait for more work to be downloaded.
Hope everyone is having a great morning,
Bren

Bren, I'm glad you've got dictation that you can understand. When the snow first got deep here my little grand dogs looked like "what? What am I supposed to do?" when we let them outside. Now if it's cold they just dart out and pee very close by but if it's not too cold they go running and leaping through the snow and it's so funny.

Oh, yeah, they closed everything here - governments (federal and local), courts (county and federal), bus service except on main routes, commuter train service, airports, the GW and Rock Creek Parkways, all colleges, universities and schools .... Most stores except groceries are closed in our neighborhood. We got about 14" in our yard and on our sidewalk (I measured before shoveling), although the "official" total at DCA is less. It is 37 degrees out now, so things are a bit melty. We shoveled before it got wet and heavy because I had an appointment with my plastic surgeon for my annual follow-up. He was a little late and so were we, but we all got there fine eventually. He lives out in Great Falls, about 15 miles away. We live 6 blocks away from the hospital where he has his office.
I hear we may be in for another round of snow tonight.

YEAH blue - love both of them.
Chickadee - TOWANDA - oh, I LOVED Fried Green Tomatoes. Loved it.

got good marks from my MO. Also my blood sugar went down again which makes me happy. BP was still a bit high but MUCH closer to normal since I retired. So yippee skippee I guess I'll live another year.
We asked about length of time on letrozole and she said that she doesn't want to consider lengthening my stint until after she's seen the peer reviewed results of some of the current tests. She said you definitely get the most bang for your buck from the first five years, though. I don't want to take it any longer than 5 but hubby gets a little pushy sometimes. For some reason he wants me to stay alive. Sometimes I don't think he's looking out for his own best interests...
We've been watching the Olympics. So much fun to watch.. much as I hate being cold I surely do love watching other people skating and skiing and snowboarding!
I hope all of you lovely ladies experiencing this bitter cold winter stay warm and safe. Here in Seattle we are a lovely sunny and 48. When we do get snow (which is usually only once a year) it normally melts within a day or two. But the entire region comes to a screeching halt as no one is accustomed to driving on it and we've got HILLS... lots of 'em.
Hubby is at the dr getting his back checked out. He's been in so much pain lately and simply will NOT stop doing "stuff" all of which hurts. I'm anxious to hear what the doctor has to say.
-
Just got back from the airport - I'm free for 2 weeks!!! But I miss him already. Hope he copes - I do too much for him. Wish I was going to NZ.
Poppy seems really disturbed lately - there's been some earthworks going on 2 doors down and she hates loud noises. I think she thought I was going away too - seems pleased to see I came back

Off to work very shortly - hope you are all ok
Bren - good to hear you had a good day.

WHERE does the snow GO when it starts melting? We dont want to be worried about flooding!!!
Sunny--no beautiful Japanese Rock Garden, just a crappy "desert landscape" with tons of little nasty peastone size rocks.
Blue--as always loved your pics, especially the cappucino!
Lovely Ladies---I am not going to tell the temp in my area cuz Chick and Garden feel so good about there nice warm (not80degree) weather.
Love you all-------kad2kar

ah..... k2k.... I love not freezing but love actual WARMTH even more. You go right ahead and gloat!!

STOP THE PRESSES NEWS FLASH: 9:44pm EST---8:44pm Colorado time(?)
Our dear fearless friend Chevy has a broken left hip. She crossed the road to avoid ice, she stated in the interview and this rock got under left foot. She turned her ankle and fell. This was early today 2/13/14. She's been in the hospital all day. She's on Morphine, but she has her wits about her. Her humor intact. Doesn't sound loopy at all. Her DD is at her side, as is DH.
Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow at 2 pm, 2/14/14. ORIF --Open reduction internal fixation(long rod and screws). She expects to be in the hospital for two days after surgery. Rehab in hospital for two days after surgery. May go to rehab facility. That will be decided later for sure.
She can't post here because the hospital keyboard is too complicated (shut-up Cami).
She wasn't happy that this stupid injury interfered with her planned casino trip.
She asks that Cami do the AM post reviews in the morning on each of her threads.(Thanks Cami).
Thinking of everyone and sends XOXO's
Will keep you updated---sassy

Oh no!!! Sending healing vibes out to Chevy. Hope they get you all put back together as quickly and painlessly as possible.
-
Chevy - ouch. Please check in when you are able to. I still remember how sweet you were to remember my Ms Boo. Hope you sail through surgery and rehab. xxo
-
I too hope Chevy ( beautiful spirit ) does super well. Just a little aside, Chevy and I met here on B.C. Org, and not only visit each other here, but email about every other day. Sometimes, for reasons maybe you don't totally understand you just connect with someone. I'm totally bummed by this, but totally hopeful that she gets through, and will be sending lots of healing positive energies.

Hi everyone, I just spent an hour catching up on the thread. My, my, my .... So much goes on here that it is mind boggling at times. Love the weather education, hate the snow. Love the good news, hate the bad. Love the travel news, hate the snow. Love hearing about our little pet friends, but hate the pain and heartbreak when we lose them. Love the support I always feel here, hate the hate. So glad I was invited to join this thread because I know I would never have been able to find it as a newbie!
I'm in Florida for a few days helping my step-father while my mom recovers from congestive heart failure in a nursing home. Spend time here at the house with cleaning, cooking and laundry and then spend time with mom at the nursing home. She is recovering beautifully and will be able to come home in a week or so. I'm glad to be in the south during these latest snowstorms!
Wish I had the time to respond to each post but know that you are all in my heart. Happy valentine's day And much love to all! Glenna
