Toby, congrats on being done with chemo!!!
-
Yay, Toby! You Go, Girl!
Congratulations!
-
Toby wonderful news on ringing that bell. I lost weight whilst I was on chemo and rads but it didn't do me any harm!!.
-
Toby= I gained 17 lbs while on chemo. It was a side effect from taxotere.(protein leak syndrome) Fluid retention from the waist down. I am now down to my original weight. However, whenever I eat anything with salt my left foot and ankle swell. I am 4 months post chemo.
-
Hi Toby
Happy to hear you have finished chemo. Good days are coming to you.
-
Hi Allydp
Thanks alot for your response.
I will have my appointment with my surgeon in three months and I will ask for a genetic test to be done. I wish to get rid of all our fears one day as being young with these conditions is really overwhelming.
Wish you the best.

Toby
I'm so happy you are done with chemo. Yippie!!! Keep your head up & keep celebrating. :-)
I lost weight during chemo but I was post partum from giving birth and had A LOT to lose.
lol
-
Kaththat's so great being done, I could hear you ringing that bell!! I'm a 'gainer' as well, about 15 pounds and it's been very difficult to loose. Seems like chemopause makes it want to stick.
I hope you celebrated!
-
Good Morning!
Coming up on the last weekend in March.
-
Hanieh - no problem.
Toby - wohoo! Congrats on being done!
I lost weight on chemo. I didn't have nausea really but no appetite whatsoever. I lost my taste buds but still had an awful taste in my mouth so everything was just kind of gross to me. I used to nibble on trail mix during infusions and to this day if I see or smell trail mix I get a little queasy. Since my hysterectomy though, I've gained all the weight back and then some. I just started tracking my calories on myfitnesspal and hope to get back on track that way.
-
Teka I look like that every day lol. Thanks for the laugh.
-
I have a question to ask. Can fluoxentin be of any danger for us with tnbc?
-
Hi Ladies,
Congrats Toby! I don't know if I will ever ring that bell but it sure sounds exciting. I was on chemo for 6 months and the center never did anything like that as I was on to phase two of my treatment. I am on a study so on Avastin every two weeks and a daily pill. So perhaps this doesn't apply. However, I don't recall seeing a bell anywhere. Maybe a day soon I will have DH find me a bell and I will ring it at some point on my journey...lol.
Ally, I would like to know some info you could share regarding the testing. I choose not to do it and am wondering if I should. I had my biopsy yesterday and it went well. It was to check a lymph node that the PET found under my collar bone. Long needle and very uncomfortable but smoothly got through it. Neck sore today and meet with MO tomorrow to discuss results and have my treatment I should have had yesterday. Praying for it just being my lymph nodes doing their job...YES...I am claiming that RIGHT NOW!!!
I asked my MO about the Metaform and she said it was not good for me to consider at this time during my trial.
I have lost weight all through my treatment but it has been a good weight loss as it is due to my diet change and working out daily. I have lost 40 pounds and I am ok with it and staying strong. I actually feel better now and still eat plenty healthy and all organic. My onc nurse was a little weird about my loss but my MO was fine because she was looking at my blood work and energy level and she made we log my food for a couple of weeks and said it is a healthy weight loss. Trust me I needed to loose it as I struggled with weight for years and tried everything. Too bad it took bc to finally happen...lol. Got to look for the silver linings, right?
Well have a great rest of the afternoon ladies...Lucy

Han, forgive my chemo brain: I know what it is but can't recall the word???? Which med is that?
Eileen, that is me exactly. I was on low dose lasix anyway for cardiac issues. But doubled it. Acupuncture does help some, but I try and keep sodium below 700 mgs which I have done for almost three years.
Now, a bite of pizza makes my mouth sore, and ankle/ leg swell
TEKA that is HYSTERICAL
Ally, I had a hysterctomy right before I started my BC journey because they found the beginning of cervical cancer. All clear now. And my current=== OOPS PAST chemo also targeted that.
thanks for all the well wishes! Had three of my closest friends and DH come: while I rang, then we went to lunch, then came home in bloat, steroid, chemo fuzz brain land!

Lucy, I would consider testing for the additional treatment options it could provide. There are many trials going on right now for BRCA+ TNBC. More importantly, if you tested positive, it might help give some insight as to which chemos your tumor will best respond. For example, PARP inhibitors and platinum agents are both in phase III trials as they've shown to extend disease free survival and PCR rates in those with BRCA+ TNBC. My BS even went so far as to say she thinks PARP inhibitors are going to be the next big breakthrough for BRCA+. After I found out I carried the gene, I asked my onc to add Carbo (platinum agent) to my chemo regimen. I had a PCR and tend to think it was due to the carbo.
Here's a link to the panel I had. My genetic counselor recommended this one over just the BRCA 1 & 2 because of my younger age at dx. My insurance company ended up denying the test, but the lab, Ambry Genetics, has a program in place where you only pay $100 with no coverage or denial.

Cocker, over 3 years on this thread with no time out. You deserve a laugh.

Han Tagh Fluoxetine is an antidepressant for depressive disorders and also the condition known as obsessive compulsive disorder . A study done years ago on mice showed an increase in breast cancer and it was suggested that antidepressants could increase the growth of breast cancer however, since then further studies have revealed there is no connection between antidepressants and breast cancer. If you take into account how many people take antidepressants in the world that doesn't get cancer then I think you are pretty safe with it.
-
Thanks a lot Cocker_Spaniel for your response.
-
Ally, thank you so much for the info. I am meeting with my team tomorrow for the results of the biopsy so I will be asking to set up the testing. I recall it is just a blood draw, correct? Also, how long did it take for you to get your results back?
Thanks for the input and support ladies, I am heading to bed to get rested for my long day tomorrow. Praying for good news. Thank you all for support and encouragement.

Hi All
Been running around trying to be sure I have all my chemo supplies. First infusion in 35 hours, but who's counting?
I hope everyone is feeling ok?
Shari...how are you?
And Lucy, I am hoping your node is just a node!
I just got to start driving again a few days ago...am hoping chemo doesn't zonk me too badly...the weather is finally looking better, and I have cabin fever, for sure! It sure feels good to see the sun shining...

Hello to all of you brave and beautiful women and partners-spouses!!
I want you all to know you are in my prayers and thoughts, everyday. I have so many questions that cannot be answered, because I realize everyone's situation is different. But, I have learned so much and am still learning, everyday from all your informative posts, thank you so very much.
Not sure what surgery I am having as I'm still waiting on genetic testing results, hopefully I'll hear next week.
Stay strong and smile!!

Hi everybody
Lucy I am waiting for your good news. Please keep touch.
-
good morning everyone. I finally got some decent sleep last night- which also happens to be the first night without antibiotics- coincidence?
Lucy, thinking positive thoughts for you!
Arlene you can do this! Were you driving yourself to chemo? I know everyone is different and their chemos are different but when I was on the FEC part, there was no way I could drive, for some reason I felt very fuzzy brained and tired. You may want to have someone drive you for the first one to see how you react.
I have my first follow up apt. with plastics today. I have to ask about the 'bulge ' I'm feeling at the side of my new breast. I'm guessing I'll need revision surgery to correct the very flattened nipple area and it will be nice to get this plastic bandage/covering off. My underarm is extremely sore I'm guessing from SNB but feels raw as well. I guess this is progress although it feels at a snails pace!
Thinking of everyone and hope for good results and easy procedures!
Hugs, Shari
-
Shari, I'm glad to hear you got a good night's sleep. Getting that "plastic wrap" off will be wonderful! My underarm area felt extremely "raw" after my ALND. I think it is from the nerve damage. It felt like I had a severe 3rd degree burn and I had to wear soft clothing inside out so the seams wouldn't be so irritating for about three weeks. If you are experiencing something like that, I'm here to say that it does get better! Hang in there.
-
Lucy - yes, it's just a blood draw. I believe it took about 2 weeks to get results. In my situation I had been referred to a genetic counselor who was concerned I might have a different gene called p53 (testing for this gene is included in the BRCAPlus panel), which increases risks for many more cancers than just breast and ovarian. Normally they don't like to give the results over the phone, but when she called to tell me the results were in and schedule the follow up, I asked her if she could at least tell me if the p53 was negative and she ended up telling me the full results. We all kind of knew I would come back positive for something given my family history, so it wasn't a big surprise and I think this is why she felt okay breaking protocol. I tell you this only because you might have to wait a little longer for results if they won't tell you over the phone. And as others have said, I'm also sending you many good thoughts and prayers for your node being just a node!
Arlene - so happy to hear you're moving along in recovery and driving again! Just remember to take it slowly and don't overdo it...but enjoy the freedom! I'll also be thinking of you as you switch over to chemo mode and gear up for your first infusion. Let us know if you have any questions!
Shari - great to hear from you and glad you finally got a good night's sleep! That usually makes such a world of difference. Good luck at your appointment today. Keep us posted.
Hi to everyone else! Hope you're all having a peaceful, good week.
-
Thanks Simple, that is exactly what it feels like! I don't remember feeling that with the first one, but I definitely feel raw with this!
-
Lucy, I'm praying you get good results from the biopsy. Let us know!
Arlene, thinking of you as you start chemo this week and praying for that as well.
Shari, good to hear from you and glad you slept good last night! Hang in there!
Praying for everyone here and hope everyone has a blessed day!!!
-
Morning Warriors...on our way to the big city of Seattle. Thank you all for your support and words of encouragement. So appreciate it and prayers are being felt for sure as I have calm and peace. I will touch base as soon as I can.
Have a blessed day with little to no SE or pain. Lucy
-
Sending positive thoughts to Shari, Lucy and everyone else here!
Arlene, - you will be fine tomorrow! Avoid heavy or greasy foods (I ate a lot of eggs and toast, also some fish and chicken, etc. Water, ginger ale and snapple were always good, too!) I agree that you should have someone else do the driving the first round so that you see how you feel!
Hugs to all

Thank you, My Friends!
For all the great advice, and warm thoughts and good wishes. I have been running around the past few days...trying to clean up house and stock up on last minute supplies. Just when I am off all meds, feeling SO much better, driving and drain-free...BANG! Chemo begins . But hey...gonna KILL every cell that can be floating around. I am So Very Happy tonight because my BS called this am and the board reviewed my case and decided... I Do Not Need Rads! I hope anyone awaiting results also gets Good News...and I hope all are feeling good, or at least better. Again, cannot thank you all enough for being here!
love, arlene
