Let's Meet in Niagara-on-the-Lake!

PiP -- Too bad I can't get an Rx for it and let SunLife pick up the tab! Yes, I was reading up on its value before I purchased it. How about I substitute 80% dark chocolate for it every other day? Mmmm!
-
Lindasa - I'm totally hooked on Teopia myself!
If you sign up for their email list, they'll send you coupons. Just this morning I got one for the purchase of 50g of tea and receive an additional 50g free on loose leaves tea. I plan to print out and go there this week as it expires on May 25th. I signed up in their store but you can probably do online at www.teaopia.ca
Edited to fix the link to teopia website.
-
Thanks for the link Sugar. I had never even heard of it. I am not much of a shopper. When I go to a mall I get what I went there for and then leave! So, imagine my surprise when I saw that there is a Teaopia store in the Newmarket mall. I will definitely check it out!
-
I am sorry is there a date set yet or not. I f I am not out of town i will attend and can bring a few others with me. Not everyone will be up to an overnighter but I am fine either way.
-
Hi Mumayan. Yes, the date has been set -- Saturday August 7. Hope you can make it!
-
Me too about the overnight. If there is a place we can find then I'd be in and if not I can make it back to one relative or another in the area.
-
I plan to stay over but I want to bring my wonderful husband along. So we will probably make arrangements at a hotel. Has anyone tried one of those last minute sites for booking?
-
I found one that looks nice, affordable, and potentially large enough to have a room for everyone. Linda's going to check it out for us today or tomorrow....can't remember which. JOB has eaten my brain. PM me if you'd like the name and link.

I will probably be making it a day trip. I am looking forward to seeing everyone!

I am planning to be in NOTL. Probably easier to stay over than drive back on the same day. Let me know when we have a potential place identified. PIP, where do you plan to stay?
-
I am hoping to stay over with DH but sadly, I don't plan that far in advance anymore. I have no idea what condition my hip will be in. We will make a last-minute commitment.
-
Hi Everyone:
As Enjoyful mentioned, I've been doing some scouting around for places to stay and this is what I found out:
Booking for a Saturday night only is going to be VERY difficult, because the inns and the b&b's will mostly only take bookings for Friday and Saturday night (this IS a tourist town). The bigger hotels will do it but of course you must be willing to pay $250+ a night - ouch!
I had a long chat with the woman who owns a lovely little 10-room inn on Mary St. She's a BC survivor (5 years!) and suggested that if we changed our day from Saturday the 7th to Sunday the 8th, our problems would be solved! There are a few Inns in town that I could recommend. There is also an Inn in Queenston that looks okay, but Queenston is a 15-minute drive (along the beautiful Parkway) south of here.
Anyhow, please let me know if changing from the 7th to the 8th is okay/not okay with you all, whether or not you are planning to stay overnight.
Thanks, Linda
-
Okay with me to change to the Sunday. I don't know what dh and I will do yet. Maybe make last minute arrangements? Maybe plan to go where a few of the other women end up going?
-
Changing the date makes sense to me. The working people may still have Sunday off and the rest of us are more flexible. I'm fine with it.
-
Changing to the 8th is fine with me. I have an appointment with my rads onc on Monday the 9th so I will have to continue with it as a one-day trip for me.

I will need to know for sure as I had to fight to get the Saturday off (our busiest day!) and now ask for the Sunday instead....
-
When I did my explorations on places to stay, it was clear that Saturday was so booked as to give us few choices. I vote we decide to move it to Sunday so as to have choices of places to stay.
-
I'm ok with moving it to Sunday
-
Is anyone else who was planning to come okay with switching to Sunday August 8? Those wanting to book a room for Sunday night need to know as soon as possible.
Thanks!
-
Linda: I so love 'Bubble Tea' - with the black stuff at the bottom too.
Charmaine
-
Sherri: I have never heard of 'Teopia' tea. I have bookmarked the link to check it out.

Hi everyone:
This will be my 4th attempt at sending this post! I'm using a laptop and mouse, and just as I get to the last paragraph, my hand slips and hits the direction pad, and the post goes poof!
This is to officially change the date of our get-together to Sunday August 8, to accommodate those who plan to stay over on Sunday night. I've decided to provide lunch myself (I'm actually quite decent in the kitchen!). In exchange, I thought it would be nice if you would provide a minimum $10 donation to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. If you want a receipt, please provide a cheque with your name and mailing address. Lunch will be wraps, salads and fresh fruit (peaches will be in season -- Yum!).
I'm expecting: enjoyful, hrf, JanetfromCanada, PiP, Sugar77, lassie11, barbe, charmaine, konakat, Frankie+ a bc friend. Maybes include: bluedahlia, lewing, mumayan, leprechaun+DW.
Please let me know if I've left out anyone -- the more the merrier!
It would be so helpful if you would pm me your email address so that I can send out a group email regarding my address, phone #, directions, places to stay etc.
I am so looking forward to seeing you all! Hugs, Linda
-
Linda,
You are AWESOME! I'll happily donate to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (and what a great idea that is!).
I think you have my email address already, but I'll PM you anyway.
E
-
Linda, you have to put me in the "maybes" in case I can't switch my day off at work...
-
Barbe - Hoping I can put you in the "For Sure" column soon!
-
mmmm....I am smelling peaches right now. I hope the peach crop is better than our apple crop!!
-
Hi All!
I have been away from the boards, but would love to come to the get-together! Can someone fill me in on the dates?
I hope everyone is doing well.
Mary
-
Hi Mary -- Welcome back! Wondered what happened to you
Yes, we're meeting at my home for lunch on Sunday August 8. If you can come, pm me and I'll fill you in. Would LOVE to meet you!
Linda
-
Hi Linda!
I would love to come. I will PM you. How generous of you to open up your home to me! Thank you so much!
Everything is ok with me, but I had a few stressful months. My dad had a heart attack and got pneumonia, so things were very stressful for a while. I spent my time working and then going to the hospital. He is doing better, but he will probably need surgery to repair a valve.
I also just got back from a trip to Italy. It was wonderful! So, that is why I have been away from the boards.
How are you doing?
Mary
-
Mary - sorry to hear about your father. My mom had two heart attacks last summer and was actually in the hospital on a ventilator when I was diagnosed. She's doing much better now, too! I'm envjous of your trip to Italy. I saw your photos on FB and the trip looked amazing!
