Thanks for that viewpoint, NativeMainer. You are so right about protecting the future. And maybe keeping me more sane for the present moment as well???
-
Sanity would be a great side effect, wouldn't it? And yes, chainge the way you look at something can make your present a lot more bearable.
-
Ooh, long time since I looked at the banner and didn't realize Meece updated it. Now I have to make sure to stay at and move below my latest ELAB low. At least it's motivating.
-
You know, patoo, it IS motivating, especially to someone like me who loves numbers.
I'm close to 2,000 miles walked, have been exercising every day and eating healthy.
Borrowed "The Glycemic Index for Dummies" from the public library and it's interesting reading. You can't eliminate carbs altogether but you can avoid the ones that spike your blood sugar and mess with your metabolism. I've gone two weeks without white flour, sugar, rice, and potatoes. Generally avoiding wheat and gluten. Feel GREAT, and down another half-pound since Friday!
BTW Roadrunners, WE ROCK - six of us (Ainm, badger, bookart, NM, patoo & samsue) racked up 238 points for the month of January. Awesome! Keep up the good work!
p.s. would love to see you Seyla, PatMom, and Ronqt1!
-
Badger, how are you keeping a total of the miles walked? I think it would be fun to start counting what i've done. Today at the gym I did 2.5 miles plus walked during the breaks... at the end of the year I could be in Kansas!
-
samsue, I use a pedometer that I got for $5 at the big box store. You can buy fancy ones but mine's basic. I clip it on in the morning and wear it around all day to count steps and distance walked. I'm tracking my mileage in my BCO sig line; I've logged 1,993 miles as of today! Seven more miles and I'll up my goal to 2,500.
-
Badger that sounds great! I've got the pedometer but never actually wrote down what I walked. It doesn't work on the elliptical or treadmill so I could use those numbers in addition to the ones on the ped. After all, I write down the daily exercise and water intake... just one more item to tally wouldn't take much.

Peeking in until I step on the scale.
I exercised this week on the stationary bike, not sure how many days, maybe 3.
This had been a tough week. I just feel like I should be losing more. Or, something at least. I eat no more than 1200 calories a day, and keep my carbs under 125.
-
Robin Checking in before the day gets away from me:
Unfortunately I'm UP in weight.
I ate better this week and did some "stairs" in the building at work even, but went up. Depressing.

Deborye, My dad also had dementia, a type called Lewy Body. The most underdiagnosed kind. The meds had to be closely watched b/c they are very sensitive to the standardly prescribed drugs. My heart goes out to you and your Dad. I know what a difficult road you have ahead of you. Hugs my dear.

Checking in with the Flock:
Friday check-in = 3 points
Weight stable = 1 points
Exercise = 5 points
Daily H2O = 6 points
Extra credit = 1 point - made more appointments to get this pain and fatigue under control, and we are coming up with a better plan that gives me something REASONABLE to aim for, so anxiety and frustration much reduced. Just trying to breathe through all this, noticing the "negative stories" that I tell myself and realizing them for what they are. Have let go of much of my anger. This week I am challenging myself to let go of fear and anger.
Total = 16 points
(yaaayyy!! up 2 points from last week!!!)

patoo, we're here posting so we both won! But I'm right behind you. Tonight I went to the athletic club and walked the track. Hubby is working tonight and I was motivated to meet my goal of 2,000 miles (which I did and will claim next week as my extra credit point), so I walked for an hour. Have a good week, everyone!
-
Badger congratulations on the 2,000 miles ++
Checking in for the Roadrunners on a Friday.... 3 pts
Water intake = 7

Weight up this morning... ugh by .5 = 0 (my rings were tight so I knew something was up)
Extra credit = 1 made some extraordinarily exceptional veggie soup for work lunches. Plus got the pedometer out because of Badgers motivation.
Total for this week = 23
-
thanks samsue! When I first started walking and set a goal of 500 miles, I started at 500 and counted down. I liked seeing 500 - 499 - 498 better than 1 - 2 - 3 so it kept me motivated.
I've been bringing a chef's salad to work for lunch each day but soup sounds good.
Meece, I feel your pain. It's frustrating to try so hard and not see results. I haven't been counting calories or carbs, because I don't have the patience. Same reason I stopped using loseit.com. Too much work to log it all in. So I changed the way I look at food, and I believe that yoga helped me with this new attitude: my food choices are a way to honor and nourish my body.
Have a healthy day birdies! ((hugs)) to all
-
Been seriously at this for three weeks and this must be one of those points where you either stick with it or don't. I was having trouble yesterday even tracking my foods, but I did it this morning and plan on keeping up with it.
My hip is absolutely killing me and it is difficult to walk let alone exercise. The bike is low impact, but it still hurts. I went to the chiro Friday and he is concerned, but hopeful he can help. I sit too much at work, so I need to fix that.
I was down to 172.5 Friday it's hopeful.
-
meece, I hope you stick with it. Is there a water-based exercise class near your home or work? It's supposed to be much easier on sore joints.
You might also like the no-impact relaxation and breathing aspect of yoga. I got a Rodney Yee AM/PM yoga DVD from amazon for 7.99 that I'd recommend. (found it but price is now 11.99)
http://www.amazon.com/M-P-M-Yoga-Rodney-Yee/dp/B00007JME6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328461519&sr=8-1
So glad you started this thread, it has really helped me stay on-track. ((hugs))
-
Thank you for your suggestions, badger. I am going to stick with it...the diet and the thread. Sorry for being MIA so long. If I had stuck with it, I wouldn't have gained the 15 lbs more.
-
(((((Meece)))))) I really think I know how it is for you - I've gained a good few pounds too. I've also been suffering from back pain on and off since Taxol Chemo. When I told my onc about the continued back pain last June he did a scan and discovered that I had a condition called Spina Bifida Occulta (it'something you are born with but I was not aware that I had it) but it appears that the Taxol has really aggravated it and now I have almost constant pain - not fun and now I think my job is also aggravating it but I really don't want to give in to it.
I find it very hard to exercise but really need to loose those extra pounds before the summer as I am due more surgery then.
I was good last week and lost a few pounds but then totally fell off the wagon this weekend and have been eating non-stop.
But I have just made a large amount of roasted veg which I will portion out with couscous to take to work with me so that I will not go to the canteen!! So we can do this and we will do this and we will help each other along the way.
So come on - all the members of E-LAB - we can do this!!! We've beaten worse!!
-
Isn't that the truth!? Just bad timing for me I guess, middle age is hitting hard from both sides, weight and pain.
WE CAN DO THIS!
-
Yes we can! My drivers license is up for renewal this year and I would like my actual weight to match the stated weight. For that to happen, I need to lose 13 pounds.
Right now I'm sipping a cup of decaf Constant Comment tea, it's flavored with orange and sweet spice, so yummy and satisfying. For the crunchy snack attack, I like the 100-cal bags of microwave popcorn. You get two big bowls and it's whole grain. A twist of fresh black pepper and a sprinkle of parmesan is very nice.
-
I've been packing it on since before Christmas, but with the Super Bowl snacking from today over, maybe I can get back to eating right and exercising. I'll give myself an out tomorrow, as I do have to spend the day installing artwork and my body already aches from the past week of work. But Wednesday I'll hit the gym. I'm saying it here so that I hold myself to it.
-
Yes we can! I broke out of my plateau and so can you. So let's start off brand new - yesterday is gone and tomorrow is a new day!
-
Meece, you must know that we are really glad you started this thread.... it's uplifting and encouraging to all of us trying to make our lives better by watching our weight and doing exercises. It helps me to be accountable more than any other "diet" that I've tried. I have to admit that I wanted to quit because I added pounds and now they're the ones I'm striving to get back off but it gives me a goal..... AND, I just want those weekly points to add up!
-
I was right, I didn't feel like going to the gym tonight - I've strained my wrist and I'm tired. But Wed for sure. Thanks for keeping me going, all!
-
We've all been 'there' at one point or another (and probably will be again). That's the beauty of your thread Meece, we have one another for motivation and to get back up and move on. Samsue, I also like to see how many points I can get (or fail to get). So that reminds me to get up and get water so I can get in my point for today.
Later friends.
