Baby it's cold outside

I just checked out the website i was talking about and they have really swayed to the educational side of insects. You can still buy mantis' and lady bugs, but there is a preponderance of educational supplies about bugs. Basil loves the summers here and takes over quickly. I'm afraid if I plant much of it it will bring more bugs in to feed.
-
I heard that if you plant marigolds through your garden it will repel most insects, I don't know if that is true or not but it might be worth a trial. I found this online
Marigolds have a particular smell that many insects and humans find objectionable. They are a good plant for repelling mosquitoes as well as insects that can attack vegetable plants and aphids. Marigolds are annuals with bright flowers that range from lemon yellow to dark oranges and reds.

I'll have to read up regarding marigolds and bugs. We went searching for ladybugs last night and we only found a few.
I'm getting ready to leave for a couple of days in the Bay Area. I'm leaving the cool foggy coast for the warmer weather. Yippee! It's not supposed to be over 80, but for me it's a heat wave!
-
I hope everyone is staying cool. 98! Wow.
We've already had storms this morning. A little break now and severe weather expected this afternoon. Staying summerlike in the low 80s today.
-
Anybody feel an earthquake today? People in my area felt the quake that was centered near Quebec. I personally didn't feel it but people on the upper floors of the buildings in our area (3rd floor and above) felt it. I'm sure not even close to what is felt in California.
-
I am in Toronto and it was felt here if you were in a highrise bldg. My daughter in is Montreal and they felt it there as well.Very strange for Canada.
-
You know we don't even feel most of the "Smaller" ones!
I have had stuff bounce off the sheves, and seen waves literally splashing out of the swimming pool. But I have never been directly in the building crumbling ones.
-
Suz, did you catch DC on Tuesday? Wow they sure can make a hanging ending, but we know how it ends and we still feel the hanging.
-
Meece - No, we had unexpected company so I have to wait and watch it tonight. I looked to see if it was posted on Discover online yesterday but it wasn't so I'll have to wait til tonight. I'll check in with you about it tomorrow.

Charlotte didn't hit the record high yesterday. I think we got about 95. The youth from church are at camp this week just up the mtn from me. I heard that they had lows in the 50's and highs in the 80's. Today we are supposed to be in the 90's again.

We were supposed to be in the mid 80s yesterday - got to 89-90 with a heat index close to 100. Now the cold front went through so today will be around 80 as a high and the humidity is supposed to blow away by the afternoon.
Stay cool Sheila.
-
Believe me I am doing all I can to stay cool. This weekend the church is having the yard sale we had to post-pone from May because of the fire. Last night the ladies in charge were organizing things getting ready to put out in the shelter Saturday morning. They are requesting all the help they can get early Saturday to put out the items. I will go early to help but take my cool-neck bandanna to try and stay cool.

We still haven't hit 100 yet this year. That is uncommon. I figure it will hit on the weekend of the fourth. I'll be out of town and my plants will scorch!!!
-
Last year we didn't hit 90 until June 25th and according to Charlotte TV station we are close to the record number of 90+ days in a row. Last year my son kept wondering when it would get hot after spening 4 yrs in tropical Hawaii. We are supposed to get a cold front through tonight or tomorrow that may cool us down to upper 80's/low 90's. Just hope the front doesn't bring bad storms, just could use some rain. The grass in my yard is turning brown, I don't want to waste the water just to keep a green yard after we had been on water restrictions the past 2 or 3 yrs because of drought.

90 degrees at 8:30 pm. It was supposed to reach record high to day in the upper 90's but not sure if it did.
-
I turned on my air. 1st time for the year. Me no likey!
-
I am the Power-patrol around our house, so when I turn on the air, you know it is hot. We turn it to 80 while we are at work, and bring it to 76 when we get home. I sure liked last months bill, and wish I could have another one.
-
We're at 64 at 10 am this morning. The sun is shining - I do like it warmer though - actually had to turn a little heat on in the car this morning - UGH.
Meece - saw DC last night. What an episode. What's with the Hillstrand boys and this retirement crap?
-
Right now we are at 90 with humidity around 50%. I got home at lunch and my son just got back from the store and brought me a subway sandwich. After we ate, he asked me if I wanted to help him change the tail lights on his truck. So I stood in the heat and helped him. I told him he should have waited until this evening when the temps dropped some. He laughed at me and wiped the sweat off the end of his nose. I got back to work and turned my small fan on to cool me back off.
What we don't do for our children, no matter how old they are. Anyway he brought me lunch.

I spent two glorious days defrosting in the Bay Area. Now I'm home and freezing again! Tomorrow we're headed inland for an End-of-the-Month party at a friends. They live along the Eel River and it's supposed to be hot. I can thaw out again tomorrow!
-
smithlme-come on up & in --we're supposed to be 90s tomorrow.
-
I have a sister up in Grants Pass I need to go visit. 90's? I'd melt!
-
It was mid 90s here yesterday. It isn't too humid, but the perspiration can make you feel so sticky.
Suz, I think the HiIlstrands are just adding drama. I mean Jonathan never does a darn thing during opie season just sits in the wheel house and visits, so him "going on vacation" was no big deal, but giving Mike atuthority will really cause drama, especially since the greenhorn is Jonathan's son Scott's good friend.
-
Yesterday we hit the 100 degree mark and today is set to be 105.
-
Stay cool Meece, Eph, Sheila and Mary. Stay warm Smith! (and me). We're supposed to be in the low 50s - upper 40s for the next few nights with highs around 70. Anything under 75 is too cold for me!
Meece, I suppose you're right - the Hillstrands are adding a bit of drama aren't they? Can't wait til tomorrow night's episode.
-
Still over 90 today with 40% chance of showers this afternoon and temps in the low 70's tonight, expecting cooler weather by Wednesday. I have lost count of the # of days in June over 90. We were close to the record Friday, we may have passed the old record. Severe thunder storm last night, lightning hit a small apartment complex in my town, had to evacuate the 6 apartments due to fire and electrical problems. My hubby was standing on the enclosed back porch smoking a cigarette when a lightning strike hit relatively close, needless to say, he extinguised the cigarette and came back in the house.
-
We are also supposed to cool down under 100 on Wednesday. It is 5 pm and currently 106 outside, 102 in the shade! (113 in my greenhouse!!!)
Suz, I am looking forward to tomorrow's show as well. One bad thing about reality shows, is that there is some reality to it.
-
Up in the 90's today, but right now it is 75 degrees. We had a real significant rain yeserday afternoon and today. Typcial Florida, but Florida hasn't been so typical in the last years.
-
Cool and breezy along the coast. My DD and I went to Ukiah, which is 1 1/2 hours away, inland. It was 94. We were there for maybe two hours and we were out of there! Too hot!
-
Well, we had a cool spell, it only hit 100 yesterday.Today we shouldn't hit 100.
Suz, can you believe that DC has stretched this out? I asked DH if he thinks Jonathan (who is free right now) will take the Cornelia Marie back out? After all he is with the boys right now. DH says he has been waiting to see how this played out for months, and now he really doesn't want to watch these episodes.
