Scottie, pretty flowers. Badger, glad to hear from you! Say HI to mom for me. DF, keep up the good work. Cubbie, in my Walk Away the Pounds 3-mile class (Leslie Sansone) there is a woman just short of 99 years old. My water aerobics class has a WWII Vet so he must be in his 90's as well. I have no excuse!

Went out on bikes with sister today. She only made 2.5 miles as seriously not in condition for much right now. I continued on but only made a little less than 7 miles. Church and a meeting tomorrow afternoon but will try and get in something afterwards since it is staying light a little longer.

    Night sculpted friends.

Hi all! I have a fitbit Zip.....not fancy, but fine with me since I just want to count steps. It is additive for me as I really try to make 10,000 steps a day, but rarely do......more like 8,000. However, (this is for Patoo) :) today, I went over 18,000! I have been at Virginia Beach with my son and family for the past week. Yesterday I drove to Washington, D. C. and met up with an old friend. We walked around, and to all the monuments today, then drove to Arlington Cemetery, too late for a trolley, sooooo, we walked to the Kennedy gravesite, then to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier for the changing of the guard ceremony.....and back to the car.

Needless to say, I feel it tonight! Will drive back tomorrow and return to Florida in a few more days. Three weeks until movimg time to be Patoo's neighbor in The Villages! Truly, we will be close enough to ride bikes to each other's houses!

I wasn't too active today, but I did get out on the jet ski with the family! It was so much fun!

Four big bags of shredding is a satisfying tangible result of yesterday's efforts. Good thing the recycling guys like me. I'm a conscientious and don't put out the (uncovered) bins in crappy weather so it's been a while. Now have two very full bins plus the shredding for tomorrow.

Will get out and walk soon. It's cold but I need fresh air & movement. TG for silk long johns! ♥

Yesterday was so nice that I went for a walk. Toning with Denise Austin is rescheduled for today.

Badger, I suppose one of us will be crabby later tonight; as the Vikings & Packers (arch-rivals) play tonight in Green Bay.

I bagged the skiing as would have been skiing + extreme winter driving + returning holiday traffic. Went for a run in the snow instead, or just as it was starting snowing. So glorious.

But my claim to exercise fame today was "take down the not-so-fresh-anymore tree" which of course was heavy, unwieldly, and shed needles everywhere. Then, of course, I got a hole in the vacuum cleaner bag.

All is fine now, but glad to have this one behind me. Now, on to 2016! - Claire

Yesterday my husband and I walked in the sunny cold along the river. At two points the river has flooded the path so we had to do some climbing to get around. We walked approximately 50 to 55 minutes. Not quite sure because my phone died at 45 minutes so that's an estimate.

Today I cleaned my refrigerator and stove and microwave top to bottom as part of my cleaning/decluttering resolution so while I didn't get any aerobics in, I was on my feet for 2 1/2 hours so I'm counting that as exercise!

Kind of sad that the holidays are over and serious back to work tomorrow with no holidays for many months.

I exercised my new Neat Desk today. . .scanning receipts to try and get ahead of tax season rather than filing for an extension for the umpteenth time. I'm with you TwoHobbies. . .this year is about decluttering.

Hello all! Been MIA while partaking in the merriment of the holidays but have been keeping up with my bootcamp class several nights per week. Exercise this weekend has been taking down the Christmas tree and decorations as well as cleaning house. Plan to seriously declutter this year.

May 2016 bring us good health and good times!

I was on the 'Take Down the Christmas Decoration' plan today as well. Everything is put away, the vacuuming is done, so now it is time for a little football watching. Let the game begin!

We need a clever name for putting away Christmas decorations as exercise - Store and Sculpt, maybe? Hey, it involves weight training, stair climbing, you name it!

As a tip to everyone (and because I don't know where I put the remaining $50 in yummy goodies I still have from last year), I revised my process this year and made sure I spent everything IMMEDIATELY. This yielded:

    • A large Le Creuset skillet that the gift certificate covered half of. Much better than the Value Village model I have been making do with.
    • A trip to the Yves Saint Laurent counter at Nordstrom where I snagged the last of their Holiday #2 eye shadow combination. This comes with real brushes, not foam. Wearing now and is the wonderful combination of fab and edgy. Great fun for the New Year.
    • Swung by L'Occitane for two different types of bubble baths, a gift from one of my sisters.
    • And finally spent my PayPal on some fab cashmere lined gloves. Really nice ones are not easy to find, and Nordstrom doesn't carry really nice ones any more (my old ones are wearing out rapidly). I guessed correctly that gloves didn't sell well in the East with the warm weather, and found exactly what I wanted ON SALE at Bloomingdale's.

Then got out my annual holiday letter today as really important to update my larger circle of friends and business associates. Took over 2 hours to write and illustrate. It was tricky as had to convey the excitement and importance of what I do without any NDA breaches. Plus, make sure that everyone felt welcome with no ruffled feathers. It was also my way of saying farewell to 2015.

Will go up skiing next weekend as need to get value out of my season's pass!!! I bet that the maintenance guy here will be impressed that I put the tree on top of the stuff in the dumpster. I sure was. - Claire

No formal exercise today. Church and then a meeting. Really need to save my strength for when mysunshine arrives in a few weeks as she is going to absolutely wear me out! Who told her where I live anyway????? Oh, I did, my bad!

Heat wave in Denver today...gorgeous blue sky, sunny and in the 40's. Met my gf for coffee and we sat outside and i was actually warm!!! Took my sweatshirt jacket off and only had a long sleeve top on. But as soon as the sun goes down, it gets cold!!!!

IT's the end of a wonderful two weeks off. Relaxing and laid back. Time to putter in the house, see my mom most days and most important time for me. I could get used to retirement, but now is not the time!!! Back to work tomorrow morning!!

    Have a great Monday!

Four mile bike ride in the rain.

Then I returned home and found out my grandma had died...plus I had put the wheels in motion to get a brain MRI this week. Stress city!

Today I had to get things squared away, as tomorrow is my first day back after winter vacation. We have been out for two weeks, but prior to the break I had been out for my surgery. Needless to say it will be a difficult transition. I have grown accustomed to sleeping in and staying up late. I did walk 4.5 miles today. Tomorrow I will hit the gym after work. It will be packed with New Years Resolution work out people and others as the weather has been chilly here

A 30 minute walk in our newly cold weather here. It felt good but does not make up for some cookie binging that happened tonight.

A new week and a new year of opportunities! Onward and upward friends!

Back from a long weekend at the cabin and a lot to catch up on! First, a belated Happy Birthday, Patoo!!! Hope it was wonderful! Claire - that picture was breathtaking! It didn't look real it was so perfect. Thanks so much for sharing it. Cubbie - I had to laugh about your little dachshund legs - I have those same legs.

    Bad - I'm so sorry about your grandmother. {{{hugs}}}

About fitness trackers - I'm actually wearing two now. I still have my trusty old Nike Fuelband - sadly they don't make it anymore, so when this one goes I'll have to find something else. But my work started the VirginPulse workplace fitness program last fall, and employees who signed up got a free fitness tracker. It's actually a very nice little tracker - it's kind of like a little clip-on FitBit, and tracks steps, active minutes, total miles, etc. You upload your values periodically, and if you reach certain goals, you can earn money - up to $85 each calendar quarter. You can also make and accept challenges from other employees - for instance a few weeks ago we had a one-week step challenge to see who could get the most steps during that week. (The two winners of that one were not surprising - one guy is a marathoner, and the other guy is a professional ballet dancer. We regular people didn't have a chance, but it was fun anyway!) I earned my $85 last quarter, so we're starting all over again as of the 1st. I plan to use my earnings on more fitness gear.

Did a lot of Shop N Sculpt at the outlets this weekend. The Columbia store had some of the best bargains - I got a pair of trail running shoes that are normally $90 for $20 and a nice winter coat for less than half price. UnderArmor had tech tees for only $10 a pop so I picked up a few of those too. And the best part was that it wasn't crowded! Yesterday we chainsawed and split some firewood from a tree that had fallen across the driveway, then later went on a 5 mile hike, for a total of 18,000 steps. Store N Sculpt is on the calendar for this week.

Hello, all, down here in the Deep South, the roses are still blooming, but I am dreaming of snow. The day before yesterday, I got in a mile of walking. I got up yesterday feeling terrible again. I had hot flashes last night and while I was on the floor for 20 minutes trying to clean up a water spill near my mother's favorite place, a big couch in the living room, I collapsed in tears on the floor. My brother suggested that I take off my clothes so I stripped down and changed into a summer nightgown. Then, we turned the air down to 68 which is low for us. Within about 20 minutes, I was cool and had stopped crying. This Tamoxifen is still working its way out of my system, and I have gone through the gates of Hell. I never had these kinds of hot flashes going through menopause. It is the Tamoxifen.

As many of you know, I have bc and share with my brother care giving responsibilities for my 85 year old mother Anne (Ani) who is fighting Stage IV cancer. She is on powerful chemo, and I never know what kind of crazy problem will happen next. I have to stay as strong as possible.

It is bright and cool outside today, and I am feeling better than I did yesterday. My plans are to walk at least a mile today and then to do as much other physical activity as I can.

Bad_At - sorry about your grandma. Many condolences. Annie88, those seasonal gym folk will probably only last a month or so and then disappear again after they've worked off the last 6 months of over-indulgence after bikini season is done! Reader425, wrong direction, should be Onward and Downward (lbs and/or inches). DecisionFreak, you are up to a mile - WOW! That's great.

Did 80 minute Bone Building class this morning. Fun and a great workout. Now off to 90 minute massage!

    Later friends.

patoo, thank you for cheering me on. I believe that vigorous exercise is a survival issue. I am fighting to regain my equilibrium after the fiasco with the Tamoxifen. I need all the support I can get to stay off the couch when possible and to be physically active. This drug is powerful. It was given to me as if it were candy. For women over 60, the risk of Tamoxifen-related SEs starts getting higher than for younger women.

All of you sound as if you are having so much fun. I cannot get away to do group related exercise. I have to keep the mental image of physical activity being fun as I walk around the loop. It doesn't feel like much fun now but when I have the lumpectomy and bresst reduction I think life will be different.

In the meantime, my top resolution this year is to laugh more than I did in 2015!

I have a story to share from one of my client sites. I have worked for this client off and on for close to 18 years. There have always been a lot of morbidly obese women here. These women work very hard, usually long hours and know that makes it tough to take care of yourself. I have been there too with work that has me working to much. The pounds creep on quickly in those situations.

But since my return after not being here for a year, I have seen three women I know from times gone by, including my last big project here. Two of them have lost well over 100 pounds, another one I would say has lost a good 50. For the two I talked to, I asked "how did you do it?" They said they did it the old fashioned way, diet and exercise. The two that lost over 100 pounds look so amazing and it has transformed them. They are now constantly smiling, where I never saw either of them smile before.

Morale of the story here is that eating right and exercise do make a difference.

Jazzy, absolutely. I was feeling out-of-sorts yesterday but when I came back from my bike ride I felt great and knew I was smiling ear-to-ear. I think when you are unhealthy you may not admit to it but it comes out in other ways. Kudos to your coworkers.

Thank you for all the good wishes regarding Grandma. She was 93 and we knew it was coming, but not as soon as it happened. I took today and tomorrow off work to help clean out her apartment and it was strange being there knowing we had just been there yesterday and she seemed to be rallying a bit.

Regardless, I did squeeze in a five mile bike ride tonight. It was so pretty and peaceful riding through the quiet streets at night.
