Let's Post our Daily Exercise

Thanks to everyone for the motivation to keep moving! I should start sharing pics during the days of outdoor walking, too... <mental note to self>
Played some ping pong yesterday (feels like I have no muscles in my arms anymore!), and today will be a brisk walk through the neighborhood at dusk when it cools down. Didn't make it to Zumba, but sleeping in was nice and healing nonetheless...
Falconer- during chemo, I kept exercising until my joints and muscles just couldn't take it anymore after 3 rounds in. I was just too stiff, and although I had a lot of flexibility prior, it was quite painful to do my gentle stretching. The MO started me on an iron infusion after my mastectomy after seeing I was anemic, and although part of this may be passage of time, (6 weeks post-op), my joints didn't hurt for the first time after I received the infusion! I had been supplementing potassium, magnesium, L-glutamine, and started on some iron for a week, but didn't tolerate the oral iron very well. I've also noticed that much of my swelling has improved over the past week, which I can't attribute to iron, but I bet that the reduced fluid retention has helped my muscles/joints feel less achey. Might be placebo effect, but I'll take it!
Wishing everyone strength and energy!

Hi all!
Well, after a month in Australia and Papua New Guinea, I am back home in HOT Central California, and almost recovered from jet lag. I had a blast on the trip and got in some good scuba diving....but was less successful walking: my knees are shot. Apt with doc to discuss knee replacement (and schedule it, hopefully won't interfere with Daytona...) is July 10th. In the meantime, I can help feed the picture fixes with these two, The second is the beach on Lissenung Island, New Ireland, Papua New Guinea, one of the places I stayed
The first, taken near Brisbane, Australia at a Koala Sanctuary, speaks for itself. :-) More to follow when I get caught up.
Oh, did I mention that Thursday is my last day at work before retirement? (I took the vacation before retiring :-))

Love the pics, Claire, Cheryl and octogirl. Cheryl, those are really impressive jumps. Cant wait to see more pics, octogirl. Happy last day of work in advance.
May call it a rest day today apart from biking to the spa to get a gift certificate for SIL's birthday.
-
How fun, Susan! About the knees, at least now you know for sure that surgery is the right thing to do.
I walked 30 minutes & did 30 of toning yesterday. Today I am going to POUND, have a dog walk planned the grand-puppy, a friend & her dog, tonight I will go to yoga. I have decided to go ahead with a hysterectomy for the pelvic relaxation issues. It is scheduled for July 24th so I am going to exercise like mad beforehand to cut down on the recovery time.

Cute birdhouse Wonderland.
Lilac, did your son just finish the A levels? Not sure if that is the right term anymore. I spent a semester in England in College and had an internship there later so I learned a little about the College/University system but not enough. It does seem hard to have to wait to here where you will go until shortly before classes start.
Finally, made it to a baseball game in our new stadium on Saturday. Cancer survivor celebration day so free tickets and food, and got to walk the bases before. Got nearly 15K steps that day. Yesterday we hiked around our lake again. Back to the dreadmill today.

octogirl - looking forward to the photos, the one on the beach looked like paradise.
Walked 2 miles with hubby this morning, still haven't been able to regularly get in 15K steps. Determined to today
-
Great pictures Octo looking forward to seeing more. Ruth glad you've got your plan in place. Heidi you should see his roundhouse kicks, wowza, also he is one of my young Vietnamese friends who I'm always out eating with and he's also a great cook. LB are you going to LM Live in London this weekend?
Tonight did Sh'bam and 15 minutes of Body Attack. -
Wonderland, love your artistic crafts and the birdhouses are darling. Octo, stunning beach, cute koala and sorry to read the knee injection did not hold for all the walking. Claire, good photos and no doubt, your stamina during chemo was remarkable. Ruth, good plan on exercise before surgery. Cheryl, loved your photos and no, I'm not attending with controversy on this side as they took away instructor touch points for attending. Delivered 77 last night was well received, loved the music and surprisingly, the fast balance track 4 was welcomed by some. Scottie, one more A Level exam (physics) for our boy and that is it - done and dusted with secondary school/high school. As you know, it's quite different here and fingers crossed his marks are high enough for his first choice uni - Brunel.
Pilates this afternoon.
-
Boo Hoo! My Zumba class was cancelled due to instructor illness, so I tortured myself with The FIRM 500 Calorie Workout DVD instead.
-
back from our week at Assateague last night. Had a nice time, one of our sons joined us for a couple of days, then daughter and family came for the weekend. Did not walk the beach every day as planned, but did get a nice long walk on the Ocean City boardwalk, and another day we went biking around Chincoteague. Only went swimming once, the water was COLD! I also came down with a cold that kept me a little more subdued than I would have liked, but all in all a great trip. Todays exercise was cleaning out the camper and still plowing through laundry loads.
Scottiemom, I will give you a report on the Scotland Hotels when we get back. They got good reviews, and basically all you do is sleep/shower there.
Octo, beautiful pictures, cant wait to see more.

Hi Everyone,
It's officially summer, which means we spend much of it at the Jersey Shore. Lots of exercise walking to and from the beach, playground, and even the arcade. I'm still not cleared for any other exercise, so feeling a little bleh. I'm also trying to figure out what to do with this body as it heals; need some new swimsuits. Not that I am swimming!
Pat- I know what you mean about the cold water. We here are sharing the chilly temps. Ibarely let the water touch my ankles here and it was a shudder!
Octogirl- congrats on your retirement!
Lilac- hope your DS does well on his physics exam. (And finds that he's accepted to his college of choice).
Ruth- I'm amazed that you throw in a DVD. If my class was canceled I'd do something else like go shoe shopping or something!
-
I was able to get my 2 miles in, then had my second acupuncture session. Went shopping to get a new sewing machine as my old singer bit the dust. I only do mending and light sewing so I bought a very basic model. But Holy cow are they expensive now!

Grit Strength followed by CX Works tonight. My Grit coach found out tonight that I am not the sweet little old lady he thought he knew, he stood in front of me coaching me in the 30 second squat to push press challenge where for 30 seconds you just do that move over and over and over then a 10 second rest then another 10 seconds then another 10 seconds, he found out that I can curse like a sailor, and I don't know why he was focusing on me as he also put a weight on my back while I was doing push ups but at the end of the day I love those classes
-
You Go, Sailor Girls!!!!
-
oh scottiemom you asked about the wild ponies - Assateague island is in both Maryland and Virginia. They keep the stocks separate - the Virginia herd size is managed by selling a certain number of ponies each year, and they famously swim from Assateague to chincoteague. The maryland herd is controlled by birth control! Each mare is allowed to have one foal, then every year after she is shot from afar with birth control. I found that to be pretty fascinating.
Beautiful morning here - Got caught up with all the gardening this morning while it is nice and cool. Cold is still keeping me down. Ugh!
-
Pat. . .wow that's really interesting about the wild ponies. I'll have to read more up on them and I want to photograph them someday. Also looking forward to your info on the Scotland trip.

Skimming the thread since I'm still having problems staying asleep and have been a bit zombie-like lately...
octo- those are great pics!
hbcheryl- way to show your grit!
Going to go to a cardio hip hop class tonight, but will stay in the back for when I need to take a break. So looking forward to it!
-
I did Zumba on Monday, swam yesterday and did water fitness followed by my first class of Core and More today. That one was a killer and I may not be able to walk tomorrow. Trying to amp it up now that I am on summer break.
-
ok - so it's been a month already but I'm gonna try to post a pic of me, DD, DH and DD's BF from the black tie wedding we attended in DC (I'm the one in blue in case there's any doubt 😜)
-
That's a beautiful color on you, sweet!
a less formal note, here's the Wednesday Women ready for a windy morning walk. Yoga tonight.
-
Lovely pix Sweet. Ruth good pix of you and the WWWs. Exercise today, 3 miles on dreadmill and 1 hour of vacuum and sculpt.

hi all and welcome the newbies. Been away long enough to have an hour of catch-up reading but worth it.
Doing well and *gasp* joined a gym. Decided to pump iron instead of taking shots or pills for bone building.
More later, love to all.
-
Yay Badger wonderful to see you and strong is good Sweet you look beautiful. Ginger hope your core isn't too sore, the CX class I do is 50%core and it's amazing how many different ways you can work the core. KB that is fabulous keep it up and you'll be surpassing yourself before you know it. Burner that sounds like my kind of class, I love to dance.
Tonight did Grit Cardio and Body Pump Express.
-
Great to see you badger and all gymmed up. Building bone the natural way is better! Scottiemom, how cool is that, 15K steps during a baseball game. Nice pics Ruth and Sweet, what a contrast! Cheryl, your Grit coach is using you to inspire the others! Pat, interesting story about the horses.
Lilac, good luck to DS. Would he be living on campus? DD has had an A-Level type test (Matura) this year (music), will have more in two weeks (biology and ?) and the rest next year. She also has to turn in a research paper next year which her adviser has told her to get to work on during the summer. If she passes the tests, she has the choice of two unis in German, one in Zurich and one in Basel. She will find out if she passed just a few weeks before school starts. It is a strange system and I'm not a big fan.
Yesterday was Laundry & Sculpt. I keep saying I'll do some yoga and maybe today will be the day I actually do it.
-
Octo, looks like a lovely vacation. Sorry the knees weren't happy but I guess the eyes were!
Ginger, It sounds like summer break is letting you get the workouts you want!
Great looking family, Sweet! It must've been fun to be at such a formal affair.
Badger, glad to see you're back and heading to the gym.
I have never had a gym membership so I'm always interested in your posts about your classes, as the names are curious- firm cardio step. Grit something? I do know what Zumba is! What do you like about these classes?
I'm still at the beach so walking a lot. Last night I threw the tennis ball at the wall and my four year old tried to hit it, which he did sometimes, but mostly I chased after it. It's four weeks post DIEP. Looking forward to getting the clear for more vigorous exercise.
Happy Summer everyone
-
Good to see you Badger & to hear that you are going to get all pumped up . You must be a fast reader if you could get through everyone's adventures in only an hour!
Enjoy the beach, Falconer. My favorite place in the world (which is unfortunate since I live smack-dab in the middle of the country!). When I was working, had a kid at home, and elderly parents to tend and couldn't figure out of to fit a gym into my schedule, I was looking for some good exercise DVDs that were and harder the other ones I had been using. I came across The FIRM (which, I think, is based out of South Carolina). I did them as a big part of my exercise program until I could get back to the gym & now use them (and Denise Austin) for fill-in days. (After BC surgery, when I was too scared to use my upper body for awhile, I did their lower body stuff religiously and lost a pant size!). I like Zumba because I love anything that is music driven & once you learn the moves, it doesn't seem like exercise at all, just fun. In POUND you have very light weight plastic drumsticks and a mat and do all sorts of squats, lunges, arm stuff, abs all to music, using the sticks as part of the routine. We do two songs sitting on the mat & a lower body song lying on the mat, the other songs are standing work. In our 45 minute class, I'd say it would break down to 30 minutes of toning & 15 of aerobics (although it's all mixed together). I like it because it is fun & set to music. I don't do any of the high intensity classes anymore because my knees say no and I think I will need them later. As you can tell, I just like to do things that are fun!
Speaking of fun, I am soon off to POUND, a friend and I are going to go dog walking later and I am also cleaning my house little by little because I'm having company over the 4th.
Happy Thursday!!!!
-
With no planned exercise yesterday, I still managed to get my 10k steps in, mostly housework and errands, and two phone calls - I always try to walk when I am on the phone if the weather outside permits. Still trying to get back to some kind of organized fitness - I have more excuses than you can shake a stick at (vacation, chest cold, etc.) - I've been letting myself go for almost a year, and know that I am feeling sub par all the time because of it. Need a little inspiration, which is why I keep coming back here - you ladies are awesome!
-
For some inspiration, here's my happy, sweaty POUND class:
-
You ladies are amazing. Kudos to all of you for keeping up with your exercising.
I'm still hanging in there at day 13 with 30 - 40 minutes a day on the treadmill. Yesterday was a bit more difficult because there wasn't much to watch on the tv so I kept watching the time instead lol. Managing to increase my speed back up slowly. Pretty convinced the exercise is keeping fatigue down to minimum.
-
pink is my colour- wow you are doing so good with exercise and the chemo. I'm so inspired, our treadmill gets delivered today and I can't wait to give it a go. We're to have a heat wave hit today thru to Monday and I really only walk in the early morning if it's hot. Hubby was afraid I may not be up at 5:30-6am during the first days after chemo ( i think he may be right)
so he bought one this week.
I'm so thrilled to hear you say that the walking may be keeping your fatigue at bay.
