I'm a regular at the Vegas airport, since I travel a lot.  There is a Starbucks on the way to baggage claim.  It's upstairs heading towards Gates C&D.  There are some cute shops up there, as well.

Hey ladies I don't mean to be a cottonheaded ninymuggins but you might want to go back and edit out any specific information about your flights and places we can be found. Lets not forget the whole world can see this. I would be happy to collect email addresses and coordinate key information with eachother in a more secure fashion.

Thanks Kitty... ONE Starbucks.. upstairs... Ladies.. I think we have our meeting place...:) What do you think??

There are other Starbucks, but they are at the gates behind security.  :)  This would be the best meeting place, since it's just upstairs from Baggage Claim.  :)

Kittycat - I saw on the website that the local Channel 8 TV is hosting this event.   I was thinking it would be a good thing for BCO, etc. to contact them to maybe do a short story on our group?  What do you gals think?

Meeting at the Starbucks between the two gates is a good idea, as we may all be on different airlines and arriving at different gates.  Are we all going to buy tickets ahead of time for the Paint the Square Pink event?  Or at the event?

Oh, well heck I thought it would be during the day.  Well I guess Im going to miss it, I already bought tickets for the tour.  Well I know Ill be at the first get together then.

Robin - you go first and I will be right behind you!  Just like when we got the airline tickets!  I for sure want to do the Paint the Square Pink so I have no issue buying the ticket ahead of time as it will save $5 and they probably will have a will-call area set up?

Jancie, It's $45 at the event, so you'll actually save $10 :)  The short story idea is good.  anyone here an excellent writer????  I'm a math person - not English!  :)

    Hey, Sisters -

You don't know me presently because I have been a silent sister since spring.  Over-busy schedules and dealing with medical issues has limited my time greatly (you all know... ), so I haven't wanted to spread myself even thinner and try to create new friendships without being able to give much of myself or my time.  But that hasn't stopped me from reading about you precious characters and falling in love with each of you.  You are all angels and have helped me thru some difficult times just by being yourselves and touching my heart and lightening my spirit.

Now, to get to the point - this is about a Vegas get-together after all:  Is there any chance that there is an empty bed or sofa or floor space available in any of your rooms?  And is there any chance you would welcome me to join in even though our relationship to this point has been pretty much one-way (other than the good karma you've been building off of the benefit I've been receiving by hanging around)?  I thought I would be busy the end of this month, but my schedule has just freed up and I would love to meet you crazy gals if you would allow me to join in.  If anyone would feel uncomfortable, I understand.

Either way, let me get up to speed a bit and tell you about myself. (Even if I wind up not being there in the flesh, you deserve to know a bit more about this person who's been listening in on your conversations.)  For those not interested, just jump ahead to the next post - no problem.

I'm from Wisconsin's quirky capital amidst the cows - aka: "The People's Republic of Madison", "The Left Coast of Wisconsin", "Madcity", "Madtown", "86.23 square miles surrounded by reality" - although I feel I have as firm of grasp on reality as those outside of the Reality Distortion Field.  Yes, I'm another Cheesehead!  Not to worry though - We may know how to herd cows, but none of you sound like cows and if my count is right three of us are not enough for a takeover anyway.

As for myself, I'm 55 (warning: might be a challenge for the much sought after matriarch position), 5'2" (looks like a number of us would be able to look each other in the eye rather than viewing mostly the armpits of the world), and 185 lbs (a big plus: if the desert winds come up I definitely won't blow away in a windstorm, so you can hang on to me).  Besides, I can provide an instant transformation - hanging around me magically makes most people look more beautiful, statuesque, and svelte!

What do I do with myself to stay out of trouble you might ask?  I'm a mild mannered librarian by trade.  Formerly in social work, switched back to libraries in '81.  Not only do I LOVE it, but it brings in the money and more importantly provides health insurance.  I've been working about ¾ time since '96 due to health issues (thank you Ted Kennedy for FMLA)!

OK, so far, so good - I think...  So when not working how do I usually spend my time?

    • 1) I am fortunate to have my mom (91 years young!) live only 12 miles from me. She's healthy, has a very sharp mind, and lives on her own. I spend as much time with her as I can. We do a lot of genealogy, and she is writing her life story.
    • 2) I am a political activist, and much of my time goes in that direction.
    • 3) I also give energy to various environmental causes.
    • 4) I am a naturist. For those who might not know, what naturism is -- "Naturism is a way of life in harmony with nature, characterized by the practice of communal nudity, with the intention of encouraging respect for oneself, respect for others and for the environment." - International Naturist Federation. After all, it's not how we look that's important, but who we are inside and what we do with our precious time on this planet. Also, around the time of having a bilateral mastectomy this summer I started a naturist special interest group called the NBCs (Naturist Breast Cancer Survivors) which provides connection and support for a continually growing number of members.
    • 5) Lastly, my life partner of 23 years (Jim) and I spend as much time as possible traveling - often on motorcycles. We have about a dozen of them (mostly BMWs) scattered about. (Being a librarian and naturist, the majority of my limited allocated packing space on a bike is used for books rather than clothing.)

So, there you have it - probably much more than you ever wanted to know.  I don't smoke or snore.  And for those who may be a bit worried, I'm very capable of keeping my clothes on.  I would have to buy a swimsuit though if we were to hang out by a textile pool.

Oh, I almost forgot... As an added bonus, I am a certified massage therapist, so if anyone has sore body parts that are in need of attention, I'll gladly share some soothing strokes.  Or I'd do a demonstration of whatever sort of bodywork you may be interested in learning.

If invited, I know I would very much enjoy participating in ANY of the previously suggested activities, or would be just as content hanging out talking and getting to know each other more.

Just let me know...   Bed, sofa, floor - I can sleep anywhere.

2:30 am.  Time to get horizontal.

    Later,

    Claude

Claude - I would be willing to give up my space in a bed and sleep on the floor as long as I get a couple of pillows if there isn't room in another hotel room for you!  The more the merrier!  It is going to be a great trip and I would love for you to join us!

From one bookaholic to another - we would have that in common!  I am very naughty about going to library book sales and buying used books for 50 cents each.  I own over 1,000 books to the point where my bookshelves can't hold anymore and they are double stacked as it is so many of my books are in boxes in the storage room.

I love the fact that you are short like many of us.  I get tired of looking "up" all of the time!

You have a wonderful sense of humor as I can tell by reading your post.

    Claude,

I hope you do come to LV!!  I think we are going to have a great time and one more person to laugh with is never a bad thing.  I am doing the Susan G. Komen 3 day walk in Seattle tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.  I KNOW I will need a massage at some point!

    Hope to meet you!

I think we need a show of hands here... so far.. about five of us are wanting to do this...or can do this.. ( SS Teresa)

  • Jazzygem
    edited September 2009

Susie and Jazzy will do the paint the square...not too sure about Clare, but I bet she will join us...IF SHE WOULD STOP LURKING AND START POSTING!!!!

I offered a roll-a-way for Packergirl...so maybe she and Caude can get a room??  Just a suggestion.  I'm not sure if we can still get the special rate though.  If not then I am all game for bringing in the roll-a-ways!

Anyway I just think we all should go to the paint the square thing as a group.  That's my vote.

I am definately doing Paint the Square and will go ahead and purchase my ticket on line this weekend.

Laura - Linda54 has kindly offered to mail me her TaTa t-shirt as I don't have one!  Are we going to wear these on the flights on Friday?

Thought I might throw this out there also!  Should we have maybe one or two of the hotel rooms also designated as hospitality suites?  What I am trying to say is that these could be rooms where people could congregate before and after events to catch up with one another?  For those that like to stay up late - (ummmm Laura you would be one of those gals)......maybe we can designate a room for the late nighters for night caps, etc.?

I have a hearing disability so I am pretty darn sure I am not going to hear my cell phone ring over the clattering of the slot machines, etc.  It sure does get noisy on the gambling floor!

Hey maybe we should get together contact numbers (cell phones) and everyone could print it out , that way everyone will have contacts.

    Just a thought.

Teresa - I know that Estepp has been getting PM's of cell phone number so send her a PM with yours.

Ok...chemo fog....can't get everything written in one post.

So....confession - I still smoke.  I know this is bad but I haven't been able to kick the habit.  However, I am a considerate smoker, I won't smoke within 15 feet of non-smokers and I definately wouldn't even think of smoking in the hotel room.

Another question - for those that have traveled with narcotic drugs - how do you get through airport security?  I was thinking that maybe I needed a letter from my radiologist (since I won't see my oncologist before the trip) and get her to state that these drugs are legitimate due to my cancer.  I don't want to pack them in the bags that I check in - I would prefer to keep them in my carry on luggage just in case my luggage gets lost.  That has never happened to me in the past but you never know.  I want to be able to bring my lortab, ambien, valium, etc. etc.  just to name a few Laughing  I don't take them every day and depending on the day depends on which narcotic I take.  I sure don't want them to confiscate my drugs!

Teresa - kind of easy to figure out the late nighters - we are the ones that are posting at midnight, 1:00 in the morning, etc.  Right now it is 12:45 pm my time.  I wait until my hubby falls asleep then I sneak out of bed and watch TV and get on the internet until at least 1 am.

Since I am not presently working, I get to sleep in until 11:00 am.

Ok, that brings up another point - I am not a morning person.  Don't mind if people in the room get up early - but I am not a talker in the mornings (am very very quiet) until I have had at least 3 cups of coffee so don't think I am being pissy - just can't think so early in the morning to have any sort of normal conversation.  Think of me as a zombie in the mornings.

Hello ladies, I am in for the pink the square activity.  If we are doing this for sure let me know so I can buy the ticket ahead of time.

Estepp I sent you a PM with my cellphone yesterday hopefully you got it.

Let me know if there are any other activities we are interested in doing as a group.  Most shows consider 10 or more a group.  I will call to find out group rates.  I am also working on some discounts, bad economy is hitting Vegas because hotels are not nearly as generous as they used to be.

Do we have a Vegas resident in the group.  If we do can you send me a PM, please I have a couple of questions.

I am so excited about this trip, it is going to be a blast.

    Hugs

I purchased my ticket for Paint the Square Pink.  We can pick the tickets up at will call (otherwise it is another $12 to mail).

Laura - Can you make copies of all the telephone numbers and email them to us ahead of time, in case anyone gets lost or stuck somewhere?

We may have  a spot in our room.  We have not heard from Jax forever, and Marilyn said she may not  be coming.  I will PM them both again and see what is going on.
