I've been so busy the past few days... mostly car shopping with and for DH... then somehow managed to get a new car myself (a deal I couldn't refuse, LOL), although DH hasn't found what he wants yet. But, Joy, you've been on my mind and in my prayers since I read your post about your melanoma surgery. I'm so glad they found it and treated it right away! Please take good care of yourself!
Spring, the Royal Wedding Party sounds like a blast! I hope maybe you've put some photos on FB. Will have to check.
Kari, let me know if your SoCAL trip brings you this way!
I walked most but not all days this past week -- a good hour+ each time. Hoping to get back into a more steady routine next week.
Enjoy your Sunday, everyone! Deanna

Hi everyone. I've had some great workouts this week. I'm hoping the rain stops so we can get a walk outside today
-
The doctor office called and they got everything on my arm. Now I have bloodwork done and I already do that from BC and see my dermatologist every 3 months. I was happy to only going to see my ONC evey 4 months. I hate doctors but ..... I get my stitches out on Wednesday.
I'll get back to my work outs this week. I have been walking everyday. Hope everyone enjoyed this beautiful weekend.

Joy, glad you are okay and they got everything!
45 Elliptical on Saturday and 55 minute bike ride today. Today was my Bday! We also did birthday gardening!
Still really sore in the shoulder blade area, owie!!! No weights for me. Doing gentle yoga only till this puppy is healed up!
Deanna, what car did you get??

Hi Ladies!!
Just dropping in to ask a question. I'm having LD Flap recon (uni left side) on Thursday and I was just wondering if any of you have any experience of this? I am really worried that if I am not able to do my exercise routine that I might pile back on the weight. How soon after surgery will I be able to exercise and to what level?
My trusty Wii Fit told me that I have done 84 weeks without missing a day so I will be very disappointed that I will now have a break in my log - I seriously considered taking my Wii Fit and Balance Board to hospital with me!!! I have been finding it very hard to maintain the weight loss (just over 100 pounds gone) - any little slip shows on the scale immediately and significantly - I have to be very careful about what I eat and I do on average 90 mins exercise daily. I am very nervous about not exercising and maybe resorting to comfort or boredom eating. I am also quite nervous about the surgery - I've had a few panic attacks and I don't know weather it's the thought of the surgery or the fact that I have to put mum into a care facility tomorrow until I have recovered enough to look after her again - omgoodness I am sooooo nervous!!
I hope those of you who remember me are well and that the recent storms etc did not cause you any hardship. I have never forgotten the wonderful support you gave me when I started out and I still appreciate it every single day. As usual I am back to you when I am needy!!!
-
Hi Anim, I considered an LD flap but opted for DIEP in NOLA so that the muscle would be left alone. The PS said to me it is things like pulling down a window or lifting out of chair (essentially, dips and pull ups) that are impacted. I bet if you ask your PS he/she can tell you... I don't think you will pile weight back on... I don't!!
I was VERY nervous before all my recon surgeries. I even remember waiting there for Stage 2 thinking, I could just get up and run away!!! It is nervous. I would get myself so crazy that all I wanted was for it to be OVER !!! You will get on the other side! Hang in there!!
84 WEEKS!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!

Ainm, you are such an inspiration. Walking you'll still be able to do, that should help. I'm right with you. I have surgery in another month. I am already dreading the lifting and activity restrictions. Hope the weather is good because walking is all I'll be able to do for awhile.
I have found the worlds best trainer. If I could bottle him up and send him to all of you guys for a week I'd do it. He is so good at assessing which muscle groups are in trouble from the myopathy and mastectomy and recon and LE, coming up with exercises to help where I need it. None of this screaming for one more rep thing. Very positive and encouraging. Very careful to watch that I don't over do it or do anything to hurt myself. Careful about technique to protect knees, shoulders, back etc. My strength and balance are so much better. Sure wish I'd found him sooner, it has been worth every penny. Helped more than PT ever did.

Gentle Yoga tonight, still trying to heal my shoulder blade area! No weights for weeks. I'm probably losing all my muscles!! ha!
Hope all you ladies are doing well! Keep Moving!
-
Ainm so glad you are doing okay and I know you will do well with the up coming surgery. You inspired me to get a WII and start working out more. Just take it easy and do as the doctor says. You will be back in no time!
Get my stitches out on Wednesday and then my quarterly blood work.
-
Ainm ~ I'm praying for you, your medical team and tomorrow's surgery. How exciting! I know you're worried about getting back to exercising, but try not to. The next few weeks your body will need everything it has to heal and rebuild, and the emotional lift you'll get from having your reconstruction should give you plenty of energy to exercise when it's time. (((Hugs))), and please let us know how you're doing as soon as you can.
Spring, I got another Acura RDX. Nothing exciting, but it's the perfect size (smaller SUV) for my needs.
Kate, lucky you to find a great personal trainer!!! I'm smiling just thinking about it! How did you find him?
Joy, did you get your stitches out today? So glad they caught that when they did! Melanoma is so scary.
I walked an hour on Monday and an hour and a half yesterday. Hoping to walk later today, after it cools down and before American Idol. Deanna
-
Got my stitches out today then got my blood work for both the ONC and Dermatologist. Still can't figure it out but I also had to have a chest xray for the Derm. I get my results (blood) next week. Then hopefully I won't have to see a doctor for a while.
Now to get back to mooven' and grooven'. Have a great evening.

45 on the elliptical tonight. Thrying to keep my shoulder still!!
My shoulder blade has been so bad that I had Xrays Monday (all clear) and today a total body bone scan to rule out Mets. I'll sure feel better to get the results! After this, I'll have to find an orthapedist I think and figure out what is gonig on here!!! I tried doing gentle yoga last night and my shoulder blade is killing me all day today!
-
Ainm, thinking of you
Spring, keep us updated, hope you get some relief soon
Deanna, friend of mine raved about him, since then I've realized how many post operative or post illness clients he takes on. He just really has a knack for it.
-
bone scan clear! Phew! Just an injured shoulder blade area. Old age I guess! A problem I am very happy to have!!!
No exercise today. Just resting and celebrating life. We even went out and got "take out chicken" a rare treat for us veggie eaters!!!
-
Spring, thanks for letting us know, so happy for you
-
Thank you for all the wonderful well wishes. I'm good and sore and stiff - managed 4 lengths of the corridor today and a flight of stairs - the main problem is all the bits hanging out of me - wires, drains, tubes!! But I'll get there - unfortunately the food here is lovely!!!
Joy & Spring so happy to hear your problems are 'sorted'.
Again, thanks for the support - you are a great group of people!!
-
Good to hear from you Ainm, we're all thinking of you. Keep walking as much as you can
-
Walk and drink a lot of water, Anim! It helps!! Also, if you get constipated from the pain meds, Mirilax!
45 on the eliptical today and did some light garending. Just hoping I didn't overdo the right scapula!!! (shoulder blade).
-
Walk today with DH I loved it
-
Happy Mother's Day! Just ate, and rested and visited with inlaws! A nice day!!!
-
Long walk with DH then a BBQ. Restful, fun, lovely day
-
KMMD, LIKE!!!!

Hi Ladies---I am back.....and happy to report that I walked a lot today. About an hour or so. I am still afraid to do yoga or running b/c my tissue expander/implant surgery was ten days ago, but it looks like I am healing well and soon will be ready for more action. It is soooo good to be back and thank you for motivating me to do some movements. Hugs to all of you!
-
That is also such a great surgery to have done and move on from survivorwoman, good for you.
-
I have not been on for awhile. I have been sick for a MONTH... some real nasty sinus infeciton...
I have been thru 2 different antibiotics and now have an Rx for a 3rd one... my doctor ordered x-ray films of my sinuses... fun, fun...
I haven't exercised.... only walked maybe three times in the past month, with my neighbor....

I rested again yesterday. Tomorrow I go to an orthopedic about my shoulder blade injury. IT is already starting to get better though. Boy, am I going to take it easy at the gym after this! I also heard that I needed to stretch and hydrate more!
-
Spring, careful, happy to hear you are on the mend
Hadley, good to hear from you again, we're with you here while you get back into it
I did it. Transitioned from yoga in front of the fire to yoga with the windows open and the sound of birds and Spring, felt great
-
Sounds like we have as many or more on the injured reserve list than active this week. I hope everyone's recovering well from surgery, injuries, sinus infection, travels, or whatever else has zapped our energy.
I haven't done much of anything this week, and I have no excuse, other than busy-ness and a lack of motivation that I really hope passes soon. In fact, I'm going to force myself to get out and walk right after I post this, because I swear my thighs are already looking flabby.
Have a great weekend everyone! And here's to some renewed energy for us all -- and special (((hugs))) to Survivorwoman and Ainm as you recover from your surgeries. Deanna
-
Deanna- thank you for your kind words and hugs. I am feeling better, though, I still have some pain near my armpit. I guess the tissue expander/implant surgery rearranged some of my muscles around the armpit area again. It probably will take another 3-4 months to heal completely.
After reading your comment, Deanna that you were going to go for a walk, I decided to get some movement as well. So, I went for a bicycle ride around Prospect Park in Brooklyn, then to the farmers' market and eventually rode the bike back home, too. I think I did about 5-6miles in total, maybe even more. I had fun. I am feeling great that I did some excesize. Thank all for motivating me!
-
YaY, Survivor! Good for you! When's your next PS app't.?
I finally got my bottom in gear this a.m., getting out early and walking for 1-1/2 hrs. (about 6 miles) before it gets too hot, and while there was still a nice, stiff breeze. I feel soooo much better! Deanna
