Storming north of us. Hope we don't get any here. Watching some real old shows. Patti Duke, Rifleman, bat Masterson - oh those where the days. SIGH!! Keep busy and keep moving.
June prayers to you and your family. Try to get out and walk to get some fresh air and clear your mind. My son has surpass 3 years longer than the doctors said. So each day is a blessing for us. Love to all
-
I was away from home all day and just saw the headlines about the fierce storms in NC, so I came here to check on the two of you (Spring & Joy) I know are there. Please let us know as soon as you can that you're okay! I'll take a peek at FB for any additional news. Tormados are so scary!!!
June, I'm so sorry about your Dad. I hate life expectancy predictions. Hopefully, he'll be able to rally and prove the doctors wrong. Prayers for you & your family. And for you and your son, too, Joy.
I didn't walk today, but I did a ton of hauling and lifting, working on my antique spaces. Oh, I guess I walked a mega-size outlet mall on the way home. That will have to count for today. Deanna
-
We are okay here but there is a lot of damage around and people died from the Tornados
We took a walk today (wanted to bike ride, but DH could not get my new bike tire inner tube installed correctly (back to the bike shop). We walked for 4.5 miles and saw lots of evidence of high water and flooding. Glad the storms are gone!! Sun is far superior!!
Thanks for asking about us, Deanna!
-
Hi Ladies--Thank you for welcoming me in your group. I finally did 90 minutes yoga today after two days of doing not much. Now I feel great again! I will try to do more yoga and walking this coming week, until the 28th when I will have my TE/implant exchange surgery. Then I have to wait to heal again. I am so glad I found you ladies. Thank you for cheering me on.
-
Happy to hear you're well Spring and Joy
Survivorwoman, at least this time of year after the exchange you can get out and walk because the weather is usually better. That's about the time I had mine and I was very thankful for that since the original surgery was in cold lousy weather
-
Thanks kmmd (Kate) for your encouragement. I am also very happy about the nice weather coming our way. This cold and dark winter, while I was going through chemo, was dreadful. But with the nice weather and more sun on the way I am slowly leaving my depression behind. The yoga I did last night was fantastic too. I slept really deep.
-
So saddened by the storm damage and lost lives
Spring/Joy, thought of you both and checked FB to make sure you were ok
June, so sorry about your dad and your ulcers and Joy - big hugs
Speaking of Whole Foods, I went yesterday and bought Kale for the first time in my life! I did the Dr. Oz sauteed kale recipe and it was good
Friday, my DH and I had massages (heavenly) and Saturday enjoyed some sun and fun. Yesterday started a new book and read the whole thing! haha don't think I've ever done that. My phone took a tumble into water on Saturday while we were out and about and it died, so it was nice and quiet.
Rainy all day here today, walked the mall at lunch - its spring break - lots of teens, but not too crowded.
Survivorwoman - I sooo remember depressing chemo winter...nothing like the Spring to bring you out of that depression like you said!! Yay for the yoga induced good sleep
-
Kari, let us know how the Kale recipe turns out?
I took off a day from the weights today, I have a sore spot on my back/shoulder!! Trying to let it heal up!
-
Did 2 different recipes with the kale and liked them both! 1st was the Dr. Oz sauteed kale and 2nd recipe was a bean and kale soup (Bean Soup with Kale on Allrecipes.com) delish!
Spring, I have a sore spot on my right shoulder blade from the weights, thought I was a smartie pants and upped the poundage, found out I'm a wimp! haha
My younger DD is coming to town for a few days, so I get all my girls to myself after work! AND more good news, my DD Krystle (one with baby Savannah), her DH is being transferred here in a couple of weeks. DD goes back to work on Easter so this is HUGE, as she leaves home at 6am and doesn't get home til 7:40pm (nurse), so this will be great for baby!! and their relationship!! so happy!!
how is everyone doing?? KEEP MOVING! I'm headed to mall for my brisk walk at lunch. Weather is iffy, doesn't know if it wants to rain or not. LOVE TO ALL!
-
Kari, it is my right shoulder blade too!! I was just sitting here debating if i should go today or do more rest. I think I will go and do everything very light and minimal reps. Like an experiment!
So it sounds like Krystle will be a stay at home mom?? I always wanted to do that!!!
I think that is wonderful.
-
Report back Spring on your experiment! Krystle is a PICU nurse, so 3 days per week, 12 hour shifts, she starts back 4/24/11 (easter), she took an extra month off (unpaid) to be home with baby girl. She called me earlier and wanted to meet for lunch, so I did NOT walk at lunch, but played/held baby! much more fun
-
How exciting, Kari, that Krystle will be moving closer to you! (Is that what you meant??? Or maybe just that Mike won't have as much of a commute?) Anyway, have a great few days with your girls!
And thanks for the info on kale. I've never tried it either. For some reason, I have the idea it's bitter. Is it???
Welcome, Survivorwoman! What part of NY do you live in? I grew up in Dutchess County and went to school in Saratoga Springs.
We had such extremely high winds yesterday (did you have them, too, Kari?) that I never got out to walk. This morning, I got in an hour on one of my hilly routes. Still need to find a new gym or figure out a way to work on my upper arms before it gets any warmer. We've already had some extremely hot days, and I'm definitely not ready to go sleeveless yet! Deanna
-
Deanna-thank you for welcoming me. Dutchess County is really beautiful. I love visiting Cold Springs and the other little towns in the Hudson Valley. I wish we lived up there. Instead, we live in Brooklyn, which is not so bad considering that we live next door to a fabulous park (Prospect Park), but still, it is nothing like those charming towns in Dutchess County.
I am happy to report and-- thanks to you all for encouraging me-- I had another fabulous yoga workout today. I really enjoy doing yoga, as it seems to be very gentle on my healing body. I think doing yoga three or four times a week is perfectly enough for me right now. At least until I get my TE exchanged for an implant. Then, eventually, I can go back to running again. Katia
-
Kari, I went slow with the weights, did less weight and less reps, and OUCHIE!! I should have waited! I am not going back there for upper body weights for at leat a week! I really pulled something!
I did do 45 minutes on the eliptical last night, I will keep up my cardio while my right shoulder blade area heals! I have to remember my body is not as young as it used to be, and I need to be more careful!!
Kari, I am sure playing with Baby is as good if not better for your overall healing!!
Welcome Survivorwoman! I do Yoga too, and good for you! Tonight is my yoga class. I found that yoga loosened up the tightness I had and helped me increase range of motion. It is good for body, mind and spirit!
-
Deanna, we did not have the high winds, but humid rain-threatening skies, which continues...very weird weather. I heard you've had some hot days down there. We are headed to a weeklong SoCal trip on May 1st! Getting excited. Kale is very hard to chew it seems to me. I expected a bitter taste also, but it wasn't. I can honestly say I don't know how often I will buy it. Oh it's my son in law who is being transferred here, instead of leaving Monday nights and coming home Saturday mornings (like my hubby, they work far from home).
Spring, I thought of you last night and was hoping you wouldn't overdo it. YIKES! I decided to wait on the upper body and my shoulder is starting to feel better. My younger DD was attached to the baby, in fact on our walk last night, she carried her the whole time. If I did that, I would be sooooo sore. My body doesn't bounce back like it used to.
Katia/Survivorwoman, what a beautiful name! Yoga sounds like just what the doctor ordered. In fact, I remember my breast surgeon (at my 3 month post mastectomy checkup) telling me to stick with yoga/pilates.
Have a great rest of your day all!
-
Did 90 minute yoga tonight (Moon Salutation, my fav!) Right shoulder blade getting better. Taking motrin though! ugh....
-
That was me too survivormom, another yoga by firelight night for me
Kari, so good to hear the news
Hello to anyone I missed, lets keep moving
-
Ten minute rule turned into a good hour workout today, love when that happens. I'm currently watching outside wondering if it will be rain ice or snow tonight. Its all going to depend on what time it hits. Friend of mine got a picture this week of the snow flakes on her forsythia bush. Something not right about that picture!
-
kmmd- great job!
Ok, I have been a bit lazy again, but it is because I got some bad news at work. My hours were reduced greatly. So I was concentrating on finding a new job , something that would make me happy or happier and would be a lot more meaningful than what I do right now. By the way I was going to change jobs anyway last year, only that I was diagnosed with bc at the time and just as I was applying and sending out resumes I got the bad news. So my boss' decision is although surprising and got me bummed me out a bit, I am trying to bounce back and move forward. Tomorrow I will go back doing my yoga too. I only did walking today and yesterday, but I think it helped me sort out my issues I am dealing with.
-
OK I have been lax. But starting today I'll be back and motivated. Back to counting points and keeping the candy and chips out of my mouth.
Two events happened at our house this week. I am starting a new job next year and DD announced at dinner that she did choose Creighton. Now the stress of the past couple of months will go away, along with 5 pounds.
Looking forward to summer vacation where I can go to the gym every morning and take different classes-I cannot go and do machines.
Happy Monday everyone!!! Be Motivated!!!
-
Gardening this weekend -- I was totally soaked! What a workout!
Tonight is 45 elliptical. Still nursing my right shoulder blade area, but it's getting better. No weights for me for a bit! Going to the chiropractor tonight to make sure everything is in alignment -- I figure this will help healing go better... (couldnt' hurt).
-
Hope everyone had a beautiful Easter weekend and didn't eat too much rich or sugary stuff. Personally, I'm surprised at how few bites of holiday treats it takes for me to feel positively yukky the next day, so I'm happy to get back to my normal routine, and will leave the leftovers for DH and DS.
Spring, on that shoulder blade pain... Not sure if you mentioned it's cause, but I've occasionally had it and recently realized it's related to my occasional truncal LE. Yours might be from an injury, but if it's not, see if it comes on with other LE symptoms.
Congrats to your DD, Diane! Sounds like she knew the school she wanted from the start, and got her first choice! Good for her, although I'm sure it will be hard to have her so far away next year.
Katia, sorry about your hours. I hope that decision wasn't in anyway influenced by your dx, which would be totally illegal if you could prove it. And Brooklyn is one of the hippest places in New York to live these days!
We've been having high winds here for several days now. Just got a break from them awhile ago and managed to walk/run for an hour and a half, which felt surprisingly good in spite of the bloated & waddly feeling I have today from overindulging some yesterday. Deanna
-
45 on the eliptical!!! Deana, you are right about needing less "treats" to feel satisfied. Having a bite of something feels so sinful!!
-
Thanks ladies for all the well wishes as the last couple of days I have been feeling great. I started my morning walking again and I am feeling great. I really feel like I belong outside as I do have a treadmill but find the excuses to jump on MANY!!!!! When I get outside first thing in the morning and all is quiet, I LOVE IT!!! So I finally feel like I found my groove and will continue with it!! It has been 2 weeks and already my clothes are starting to fit better like they did last year.
Kari not sure if I could do the Kale thing. What does it taste like?
-
I have had a few yucky weeks. I have been walking with the Dd and doing the Wii (except for the last week.) I had some more basil cell sun spots taken off and got throught that with no problem. The doc found a spot and took a sample. He didn't know what it was either. It came back as melonama. I now have a cut 4 inches long and who knows how deep on my left arm. Not suppose to use my arm very much and that is hard since I am left handed. I get the stitches out next Wednesday. I will have to go for blood tests and see the dermatologist every 3 months now. The first night after this out patient thing I fainted and lost 1 1/2 hours. Don't remember crawling back to the bed but I must have. I have rug burns on my elbows. So you can tell I haven't had a good time and that is the reason I haven't been on here to post.
Went to yoga today and off again tomorrow. I don't plan on doing anything till I have to go back to work on Friday. I need this time to heal! Glad to see that everyone is moving and doing good. I think we went from winter to summer here. I refuse to turn on the A/C yet. I think I just turned the heat off a few weeks ago. The storms have been close but far enough away. I live in a trailer so I don't want to see any tornadoes.
Everyone have a great evening and I'll get back on here more.
-
sobx, so sorry to hear about the melanoma. Take the time to heal. We're all here for you
-
Joy, hang in there. Let's hope they got it all!!! I am sorry. I have had the AC on a couple of times!! I think it's the hot flashes doing me in..
2 yoga's in a row. Gentle on Tues and then last night I think I overdid my shoulder blade area again!! doy. I am going to Gentle yoga until this heals up. I did see the chiropractor on Monday, and all was feel ing much better after that. I think if I just behave myself, it will have a chance to heal!
-
Did nothing all day! I did clean some and then worked on a puzzle. Storming now and actually cooling down. Back to work in the morning.
Prayers for all effected by the tornadoes.
-
Joy so sorry to hear that news......praying they got everything and you are feeling back to your ole self soon.
I am tired but feeling overall good as I have been walking a ton....well for me a ton is every morning 3 miles, but I love it and it is true what a little exercise can do for the soul.....
-
45 minutes on the elliptical! Man, and I did NOT feel like doing it tonght! But I did it anyway!!!
Tomorrow I am going to a "Royal Wedding Party" where we're supposed to get all dressed up in formal gowns and hats and gloves! I have a gown, that's it! Should be fun....
