YAY! for the 45 minutes on the elliptical!
I went out for a walk with a neighbor, and ran back home... now it has clouded up and started to rain... it has gotten way COOLER, too...

Welcome to MCBR, Snobird, and thegood5! If you are still in tx or have recently finished tx, don't have unrealistic expectations of yourself. If you go back to the beginning of this thread, you'll see how most of us got started pretty slowly. kmmd's "10 minute rule" can be a huge help to mental barriers.
Hot and breezy here today, and I'm happy to report I faced one of the longer routes I've been avoiding for weeks now. So yesterday I walked 40 mins. and today I doubled that, for a total of probably 8 or 9 miles between both days.
Hope everyone is having a great week! Glad you had a good onc check up, Kari. Have we lost some of our other newer gals? Hope not! Deanna
-
Hi new gals!! Deanna, I was wondering where the other newer gals were too...hmmmm WE MISS YOU if you are reading!
Been walking up our stairs at work still and walked at lunch yesterday, but had chiro appt. after work and he gave me an exercise to loosen my hip ligament that took over an hour of laying in certain positions...UGH!
Did some jumping jacks/pushups before work today and plan to walk/weights after work...there I said it!! Now I have to do it! Thanks Spring for that!!
Deanna, hot and breezy already? yikes
-
thegood5, welcome, and what is the story behind your avatar? Any chance of a few minutes of arm work or sit ups, pilates, swimming etc. that first week after herceptin? Sounds like you should be staying off your feet during those times. Don't try to "motor through" pain. (IMHO) I don't think our bodies like it and it will suck the fun out of exercising if you try to make yourself do it
-
Hi everyone! thanks for the warm welcome!
kmmd~love your avatar, my daughter wants me to get a tattoo after I'm done with all of this that says "I fight like a girl"
As far as my avatar, I am on the OMG they found a cure for stupid thread and someone came on and said we sound like a bunch of cackling hens, and the whole thread just took off with funny chicken stuff. So I found that pic and loved it, and that's how I got it!

Hello ladies, it has been awhile since I have been on here as I was having stomach issues and just felt so tired and weak all the time.....it turns out that I have 2 Duodenal ulcers and now I am on the mend I hope.....
I did a total of 7 miles today with 3 different walks and feel pretty good after soaking in a long hot tub.
Hope you ladies are doing well and I have a lot of reading to catch up on.....
-
welcome back June
thegood5, that is exactly what would have been my reaction if someone said we sounded like a punch of cackling hens. Especially if I could have found one with a hen carrying around the fox in the hen house in her beak
-
30 minutes weights last night, then I went to circle with girlfriends and had a HUGE piece of coconut cake!!! Elliptical tonight!
Welcome to MCBR, Snobird, and thegood5! We are glad you are here with us!!! xoxoxoxo
-
Well, a 2 mile walk with my DH and then a burger(grass fed beef) and sweet potato fries for dinner. Rainy today I think my treadmill is calling me.
-
Hi hens...err gals! haha June, that's awful about the ulcers. Glad you are on the mend.
Walks/weights last night...walk at lunch today, not sure what I'll do yet when I go home. cocunut cake...yum!

Hi, I'm a newbie here.
I'm having a hard time getting back into my excercise routine after my BMX and Hysterectomy. (BMX was in Late Sept. 2010. Hysterectomy Dec. 28, 2010. Liproscopic. Final recontruction done Jan. 12, 2011. I didn't have to do chemo. I also take Anastrozole.) I used to walk on breaks & lunch at work. And do the eliptical machine at night. But, I find I'm so tired all the time. Especially after work. I can't seem to get my routine back in place. With everything they took off and took out, I've still put on wieght. That surprised me. Anyway, reading some of the posts here has motivated me to not give up, keep working at it until I find something that will work for me again. Where has my motivation gone?
BTW, I have new implants in, which I am trying to have taken out sometime soon. So uncomfortable, I hate them. How is it to exercise with a prosthetic bra? Or do you just take it off while exercising?
Thank you for any input.
Springtime, I love Psalm 91. Thanks for that!

Springtime,
I read your biography. How were you able to change your diet? I'm going to check out the book you mentioned. I've been just craving sugary foods and it's just recking my diet plan. I think I could lose wieght if I didn't get sucked into craving sweets. Can you recommend any substitutes for sweets that are helpful to you?
Thank you.

Hi Faithroad,
I use a little Stevia in my tea and have gotten used to a lot less sugar. I made dietary changes slowly over time. If you read that book "Anti-Cancer, A New Way of Life" you will find out what to do. I basically did what it says in there, then I stopped alcohol, cut out most meat and went plant based, then I gave up dairy - all slowly, and sort of expreimented. My husband lost 65 pounds! I lost about 10-12. At first it is hard and then it just becomes easier. I sometimes still have a treat, but it's not an every day thing. I've discovered I really like nuts and so now those are like treats! Start exercise the same way! Come here and tell us you're going to do something, and you're more likely to actually do it!!
So today was 90 minutes YOGA and not elliptical! That's tomorrow! all day I thought it was Thursday!! (I guess I am really wanting the weekend??)
Snobird, great on your 2 mile walk!!!
JUNE, SEVEN MILES???? (walking machine!!)
-
YAY, Spring! 90 minutes of YOGA!!
Today, I didn't exercise at all... I have this sore throat, cough and WHATEVER.... feel like CRAP!I also wish it was the WEEKEND!

Hi Faithroad! welcome - wow you've had a lot to deal with this past year, no wonder you are having a tough time getting back into a routine. Your hormones are all out of whack too. I had a mastectomy on my left side with no reconstruction, I saw 2 plastic surgeons and they could not help me...long story, anyway I have a foob prosthetic...I wear shelf tanks when I exercise and stick the foob in, but when I'm home the foob is out. I can't stand it either! Spring is motivating! I've made a lot of modifications to my diet and am happy with it.
I wanted to share this from my email today:
Walking has been proven to be good for both your physical and mental well-being. It also burns calories, strengthens bones, and can prevent diseases. Did you know that is can also extend your lifespan by several years?
In a post that was recently published on SelfGrowth.com, researchers found that people who walk approximately 20-25 miles per week outlive those who don't walk by several years. Also, every minute you walk can extend your life by 1.5 to 2 minutes.
There are several other interesting facts about walking that you may not know. Walking an extra 20 minutes a day will burn off 7 pounds of body fat per year. Longer walks (at 40+ minutes at 60% to 65% heart rate) are better for losing weight while shorter walks are best for conditioning your heart and lungs. Both types of walking will increase your metabolism and energy level while helping relieve stress and slow down aging.
Walking also reduces cholesterol levels and lowers blood pressure. It can help control and prevent diabetes. Walking also promotes intestinal regularity. It elevates mood, improves self-esteem, and can increase sexual vigor. Walking is also helpful in combating addictions to nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, and other drugs. Walking is basically the greatest thing ever--so get out there and walk!

Kari, YAY FOR WALKING!!!!
Elliptical today. It's going to be hard. I am tired and not in the mood! I think I need caffiene!!!
-
Thanks for the great article, Kari! I really needed that! I walked for about an hour and a half today -- one of my longer routes -- probably about 4.5 miles, as I remember from before my pedometer croaked. But I've gotten so bad about getting out early. I used to just do it first thing in the morning. Now I procrastinate until almost noon and I have a hard time getting out the door even at that late hour. I desperately need some renewed motivation!
Sorry to hear about the ulcers, June. Were they related to your chemo?Welcome, faithroad! Sorry you're having issues with your recon. Perhaps your PS or even a second opinion PS could make you more comfortable? Some of us on this thread have had Diep recon, and although it was a bit of a long haul, at this point (almost 3 years post surgery) mine (unilateral) feels totally natural. Hope you can find a solution you're happier with! You shouldn't have to be uncomfortable.
Hi to everyone else! Deanna
-
I did 45 on the elliptical!!! Yay!! Feels good to be "spinning away" from cancer!!!
Do you all remember Vivre saying that, early on? I think you mentioned it once Deana, something like "every step we take is a step away from cancer". Good motivation!!!
-
Hi Ladies,
I am a newbie here. After reading some of your posts I was motivated to do some exercises. I am happy to report that I went for a 30 minute walk and also did yoga afterwards. I should do this every day, at least until I have my TE/ implant exchange surgery at the end of the month. I am usually not lazy, (I worked during chemo, and still go to work), but for some reason, I kind of lost my motivation recently. Maybe because I am still recovering from chemo that I finished in February and with that I still have some depression left. Thank you for letting me join your group. I am looking forward to reporting that I am doing some exercises regularly. It is so important for us to do.

Surviormom you are at the right place!!! Everyone here will keep you motivated.
Well my DD I think has chosen Creighton. We are excited. I now have a new job, next year, at a high school with mentally challenged older students. I am soo excited!!!! I so need a different enviroment. Wish me luck! Off to San Diego for spring break next week
so ready to lay by the beach and exist. Happy Friday everyone!!!
-
Diane, where is Crighton? Are you moving?
Survivorwoman, you are already doing it!!! Good for you. Be kind to your body, it's been through a lot... Walking is good for you, as is Yoga!
Today I am doing my weight training at the gym. 20-30 min!! It is sunny and nice here. Tomorrow, we are thinking of a loooong bike ride! So excited!!
Spring.
-
survivorwoman, you are in the right place. I love this thread, it is about thriving not just surviving.
I think I might brave the wind and get out for a walk today. Been a long week and getting out of the building and walking will be a good thing I think
-
Creighton is in Omaha, and no I am not moving-just changing teaching jobs next year.
Off to San Diego for some R and R. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
-
Beautiful weather here and I'm puppy sitting again. Have Harry till Monday. My Dd just gets on the bed and looks down at Harry and takes her toys with her. Pretty weather is bringing out the crazies. Had a man walk around the Inn naked the other morning.
I am on the Wii at least every day. (10 minute rule) Also mowed the yard and weed ate my friend's yard. I soo not like spring time when it comes to yardwork.
Welcome all the new ones. Just keep moving
-
Yep, I think tomorrow is a bike ride and work in the garden, Joy! The weather has been wonderful. sunny but not humid! I did my 30 minute of weights at the gym today...
-
db823- No I never had chemo but it was not brought on by bacteria as most ulcers. Mine is plain ole stress.....my dad was diagnosed as terminal back about 6 months ago and it has been very rough lately and I am sure with what I had gone through and he is going through brought them on.....I am supposed to try and remain as stress free as possible but he is declining fast and my stomach is back to hurting. I am on prilosec 2 times a day. I have not done any exercising the last few days and could really use a good walk.....
-
We're having major storms and tornado warnings, no bike riding for us today! Tomorrow will be sunny so we'll go out then. So, we did grocery shopping at the new "whole foods" in town and then I did 45 on the elliptical. !!! yay!!!
-
Oh Spring I do love Wholefoods. Carrot and turnip, or spinach "cakes". Kale salad. Oh, love that place
