Dear good Republicans One and All,
You have shown us on the other side many instancesof McCain villifying ACORN for voter fraud, but here are instances of Mcain in 2006 upholding the good works of this organization. Flip flop?

IBC spouse: Hi to you. I just wanted to make one little comment. The picture of Obama shining Palin's shoes was posted on this site. A place where many African Americans come for support. So JMO - but posting that picture wasn't right. Now if Larry Flynt is making a joke about Palin through his porno magazines - that indeed is wrong too. Thank goodness no one would post it here. Even though I'm not a fan of Palin, I believe some things are just off limits and equating Palin to pornography is just wrong. I sure hope no one buys that magazine.

It's Larry Flynt ~~~and he's almost 66, so clearly he must be senile. Perhaps only people under 65 should be allowed to vote, especially if they can't prove they have a "more modern education"?
I am not so impressed with modern education. It seems, as I read posts on the internet, few can spell or form a complete sentence, much less write a thoughtful and grammatical exposition of their opinions and beliefs. Furthermore, they don't care.
But what do I know? I had to abandon work halfway through my MA at Hopkins in order to care for my husband. Perhaps once I get my implants and plastic surgery to hide my years, I can get started on that again. I want to count for something!!
-
Ah Daffodil, you are never too old to reach your education dreams.
Newt Gringrich was interviewed by Dianne Sawyer on GMA this morning. Finally, the conversation revolved around "spreading the wealth". It's about time this becomes the issue at hand on this campaign. Spreading the wealth around goes against the core of the American Democracy and is what sets us apart from socialism/communism. This is my truth and I am sticking to it. He also pointed out how the media is too quick to point out Obama's view on issues...about time someone had the guts to say it.
-
Good morning all,
I see where all in place for another session of: keep it truthful. Little asides don't work here. We have a long history of enjoying the facts, only the facts, with a little editiorial discussion. We don't talk of body parts, undergarments, nor make remarks that African American women couldn't come here for support. Keep it lively, truthful and without rancor.

What Joe the Plumber means to me and millions like me. When we heard finally, someone questioning Obama's plan for our future, our jaws dropped with Obama's answer. It doesn't matter what the press sees in Joe. It's all of us asking and thinking the same thing.
We do not want to share our wealth, or re-distribution of our money that we worked hard to get. All anyone has to do on April 15th is file a tax return, spend 39 cents and get a check from the government. They can be sitting home eating bon bons, while others are breaking their backs each day to realize their American dream, or just to pay their bills that are getting out of hand because of costs of food, clothing, gas, etc.
We've said it here a thousand times before, McCain said it the other evening and a thousand times before that, this is not the time to be upping business taxes. Small or large. It's a disaster in the making. Even Obama knows this is a disaster, but he won't come off it. With a president and a democrat majority in both houses of Congress there are no stops in place. No one to veto any crazy plan they come up with, and no one to end earmarks. It will be business as usual in Congress because we have a 2 year history of what a majority of democrats can do.
Do you think drilling will be on their top agenda? Then we keep borrowing from China, paying large interest payments to pay for our oil that we use and all the largess that is in each and every bill signed, largess that we just can't afford.
Joe the Plumber has everyone finally thinking. Is this the direction we want our government to go in during times of a recession? I don't want to go back to the days that this kind of taxing was tried before, just to find out all over again, that it didn't work then, and it certainly won't work now.
One more thing I forgot to add. What is being overlooked is Obama's plan to pay for everyone's college. He said join the armed forces, or do community service, whatever. How many will be joining the armed services when all they have to do is some community service? We have 2 wars on, how are we going to get the troops to fight them? All I can think of will be another draft. What are the other choices? On top of it, how are we going to pay for everyones college education?
-
Speaking of Obama lies, the one that most annoyed me was when Obama said that to pay for his health care plan he would get rid of the 15% premium that goes to Medicare Advantage plans, which only helps the insurance companies. That was absolutely not true, and I know first hand because I am one of the many who are benefited. I would have spent another $20,000, at a minimum, in my first year with BC if I had joined ordinary Medicare and not one of the Advantage plans. Instead, aside from my co-pays of $10 and $20, I paid only $750.00. Yet now I read that Obama's next ad will be directed to Medicare recipients telling them that McCain will be coming after their benefits. Perhaps that's true--I don't know--but I know for sure Obama is coming after my benefits and the benefits of all those enrolled in an Advantage Plan.
That may be fair, and I am willing to accept what's fair even if it doesn't benefit me, but nonetheless it's a lie.
-
Anne,
So what your saying we will have to be diligent about taking a higher costing complimentary medicare plan, and paying more for it, when it's possible it will be offering less? I have a few more years before I have to get into all of that.
-
To daf and all
I apologize for my spelling. Almost forty years ago I loss 75% of my hearing and over time it has affected my ability to sound out words, memory of spelling fades with age. When hearing impaired, it is almost like learning a new language. You can't hear certain sounds so words sound different, I am sorry that some equate that with education or intelligence. I will be the first to admit, I am not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree.
As for education, I did make it past the third grade with only a little help, even squeaked through a small redneck University. I have talked on the phone in the wee hours of the night with Henry Miller, as a child I ran errands (mostly to liquor store) for Tennessee Williams, and most prized book I have is a signed copy of To Kill A Mockingbird. I grew up reading a local writer named William Faulkner, so after the first time I read The Sound and the Fury, commas no longer had importance to me.
To me, intelligence is better measured by judgment and action, not words or image. That is what I will base my vote on in the election.
-
I guess the republicans live in a perfect world and their candidates never tell a lie. At least according to this board that would be the truth. I was out this morning and just came in to find two full pages of posts bashing obama yet saying nothing positive about McCain and his proposed plans. Where are his plans laid out in understandable formats? Why can't Palin interview with the press? All the democrats do and have nothing to hide from reporters. Could it be her inability to serve as VP will show all too well. She did one interview with Katie Couric and did very badly. If she is such a good choice and great for women, let me see her on my terms and not hers. She will only speak when she can talk and not have to answer any of the hard questions. What does she know about helping the economy and wall street. What does she know about foreign affairs. The VP is supposed to support the president and help make decisions and she is useless there.
Please direct me to hard facts that McCain is speaking about what he is going to do to help me. I am sorry that I had to stop my career at 44 due to terminal breast cancer. Hardly and age to be prepared for retirement. I don't have lots of money for lack of trying. I have worked full time most of my life since the age of 16. Lots of times more than one job, went to 2 years of college and stopped because I couldn't afford to continue. Since then I had my family continued to work and continued to learn. I recently finished some higher education to get my dream job only to end up on disability and my losing everything I worked so hard for in life. I am not lazy and don't have money because I didn't strive to achieve. I was struck with a catastrophic illness.
I don't think Obama is trying to share the wealth of others but make them pay the taxes they should rightly pay. It seems the more you make the more ways to get out of paying income taxes there is. Everytime you turn around there are making more tax credits for the rich and the poor just keep paying and paying.
I chose to have my family and will spend my last penny making sure everyone of my children get the opportunity to complete college if that is what they choose to do but that is almost becoming an unreachable dream for most with the skyrocketing costs.
Tell me why oil is down to $70 odd dollars per barrell, down from around $115 or more and gas prices are still $2.60 and higher. When gas futures go up $5.00 a barrell, gas prices jump at least .30 on that day. Now the prices are dropping, where is our republican president trying to get the prices to drop lower accordingly.
Maybe we wouldn't be in such financial trouble if all members of the house, senate and white house and staff driving vehicles on our tax dollars be required to drive more fuel efficient cars. You see them all traveling in gas hogging types of vehicles that is costing us fortunes. The president could aid in starting programs like this, but does he? No because he won't be able to drive his gas guzzling trucks when he goes hunting or whatever he does on his ranch.
Tell me why when Dick Cheney killed a man supposedly accidentally duck hunting that the incident was dismissed very quickly. Yet a mans senior thesis is like someone let national security loose to the russians. I just don't get it.
If people were able to talk and see two sides to a story maybe we would get somewhere.
Also, I'd like to find an apartment that I could rent for a day in ohio to claim and address so I could vote illegally. That vote would fall under the rule where the card would be returned saying a person doesn't live there anymore and the vote would be thrown out. So please look at everything before everything said by someone that supports a democrat is thrown out as a lie.
-
I just found this on CNN election center, you guys love to post stories about Obama but what do you think about this type of campaigning?
In Wednesday night's presidential debate, McCain said he did not care about "an old washed-up terrorist" like Ayers.
Obama condemned Ayers' actions of 40 years ago and said the former radical was not involved in his campaign and would not advise him as president.
Here is the text of the call referring to Ayers:
"Hello. I'm calling for John McCain and the RNC [Republican National Committee] because you need to know that Barack Obama has worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, a judge's home and killed Americans. And Democrats will enact an extreme leftist agenda if they take control of Washington. Barack Obama and his Democratic allies lack the judgment to lead our country. This call was paid for by McCain-Palin 2008 and the Republican National Committee at 202-863-8500."
This call is misleading and nasty and considering McCain said at the debates he doesn't care about ayers they sure are trying to make that the point of their campaign. Instead of a call like this why not give a positive message about what he plans to do if elected?
-
Wonderful spouse, I was correcting the spelling I've seen all over the boards. In fact, it might be a bit suspicious about why I would know this???
What a fascinating book you could probably write! Was this in Mississippi? (of course all those Yankees think they are the only ones who can write!) I did an exam answer in an English lit final (at Chapel Hill, another "redneck" university?) in Faulkner style. I think I got a good grade; who remembers when one is so OLD????

LuAnn, you raise a good point. It would certainly be preferable if McCain and McCain's supporters were out there talking about the things that McCain will do if elected. The problem, however, is that he is currently behind in the polls and a long-shot to win largely because a large percentage of the population believe the spin that they've been sold by the Obama campaign & his adoring media. If those untruths remain unchallenged, McCain can't win - a truthful, realistic, practical platform can't beat a platform that is shaped to specifically appeal to the largest percent of the electorate (and therefore by necessity includes untruths, bad math and a bunch of things that can never actually be delivered). Because of this, it unfortunately appears that McCain's best chance of winning is by making voters aware that what they believe to be true about Obama and his platform is in fact not true.
If you really dig into Obama's platform and promises, if you thoroughly investigate his background, how he voted as a U.S. Senator, how he voted as an Illinois Senator, the type of programs he supported as a community organizer, the promises he's made to various individuals and interest groups (in public forums; film clips available) that conflict with what he & his campaign are saying now... if you do all that, it's impossible to not realize that parts of the Obama platform simply cannot be executed (if nothing else, the numbers don't add) and in all likelihood Obama himself has no interest in delivering to some of his promises (as evidenced by his actual actions in the past). You are known by the company you keep; a leopard can't change it's spots. Obama's past shows a very consistent pattern of behavior and actions. Because he has a short legislative record, his experience prior to being elected becomes much more relevant than it might otherwise be or would be for a more experienced candidate.
You may not like the tactics of the McCain campaign, but he is doing what he has to do if he is to have any chance of winning. Personally, I don't like the tactics of the Obama campaign. Haven't liked them since he starting running in the primaries. And once elected, I don't think anyone will like the actions of the Obama administration. All those promises that can't be kept because: 1) the economy is oh so much worse than Obama expected; 2) the deficit is greater than Obama thought and the costs to fix the economy are higher; 3) now that he has access to all the 'real' numbers, Obama realizes that program XYZ is unaffordable; 4) now that he has access to all the top secret reports, Obama realizes that program ABC is not feasible and/or advisable; 5) now that he is getting daily updates from the _____ (Generals, Secretary, whoever), Obama realizes that the situation is different than what he'd been told; 6) that's not what Obama actually said or promised (tax cuts to 95% of households? of course that's not what was promised. how can 95% of households get tax cuts when 40% of household don't even pay federal tax?). Just wait, the excuses are coming.
-
I would be a fool if I believed either candidate would come through on promises made to get into the white house. which presidents have lived up to them. I guess my biggest problem is bush, because he doesn't sit well with me he has made me very anti republican.
I do think eventually we needed to do something about sadam hussien but the way Bush got us into that conflict was surrounded in lies and personal vendettas. To me that is really bad misuse of power and now we are in two confilcts that if somebody doesn't get a handle on we will be losing our soldiers consistently over the years. I know the media doesn't talk much about the fighting over there anymore but there are lots of battles daily its just not the hot topic. I feel so bad for the young men and women living in those conditions for 12 to 18 months with only on 30 day break (used to be 18 days and they just changed it in July) doesn't seem enough to keep up moral.
The nasty phone calls going out via computer systems today are horrible also. Wouldn't something like that fall under the no call list? Not really sure since they are technically not selling anything.
Anyway, I do want to say you all have been very polite to me and I appreciate it. I just wish there was a better way to get things accomplished because I truly believe our system is broken.

Off Topic (kinda) -

Now: Back to our regular debate.

Daffodil
Yes, Clarksdale MS,
I think most of us would have stories that would be great reads. This is another sign of being old, once life turns from conversations about 'what are we going to do tomorrow' to 'I remember doing....'
LuAnnH, how you doing, you said you are the wife of retired military. So i assume you are insured thru Tricare. I am disabled Vet so my wife is covered by Champva. This has allowed her to receive treatment at MD Anderson or anywhere else she wants. This is another reason I am afraid of Liberal Democrats. There has only been one President that did stop almost all benefits for Veterans. F.D.R. stopped most benefits saying 'a veteran has no more rights than any other citizen" So yes, I am worried about far left politicians that in campaigns support vets, but associates with the same people that spit at me. The first thing he will cut is defense department. That is what pays your Husband's retirement.
It was not duck hunting, it was quail hunting and a friend of Chaney changed position without calling out, when bird flushed, he was hit by some bird shot. He said he was to blame. McCain said he doesn't care what a has been terroist did, but he was concerned about Obama's judgement and ambitions in using Ayers to help launch his career. I am to.
-
Come on, can you honestly pick one person in politics that is not corrupt? Somewhere somehow they all accept money or funding from someone that they shouldn't.
As for my husbands retirement, it is paid through and insurance company as he is deceased. I do not discount anything our servicemembers do for our country and to be honest I would like to see some sort of a draft back in place. Kids today have gotten so far out of hand and one or two years of public service may teach them alot.
Anyway, someone said Barack will be in office next, but I never take anything for granted. Polls are select groups of people and not necessarily anyone that really votes. Being registered does not mean you get up and go the the polls. I would like to hope my candidate wins but time will tell. In the meantime please find me someone that is not corrupt.

I don't see anything in the robo calls that is misleading. That was what the weathermen did, they planted bombs, and after 9/11 Ayers came out talking more trash that he only wished he could do more. As Bessie said, Obama was sitting on the board with Ayers during that time that Ayers was doing his wishful thinking.
Do I like that type of politics? No. Obama was getting a free ride. There is much more to their relationship then sitting on a board together. Read Stanley Kurtz, he talks of many notes going back and forth over the years between the two. Others think it was Ayers who was behind Obama going to Chicago and doing his community organizing in the first place, so far that's hearsay.
Too many associates that are very questionable in Obama past. If people still want to vote for him after they know all the facts, then amen. First, it was important to know the facts.

Shirely: Hi to you too! I was just commenting to a post written by IBC spouse. I didn't even know the link to that site was posted here at bco - thats awful. I was just commenting that if Larry Flynt was doing this, it was wrong.

On top of it, how are we going to pay for everyones college education?
Good question, Rosemary. It was all we could do to pay for our three girls. It was our choice to go into debt. The girls went to private schoos from K-12. Then each of them four years of college. My oldest went to law school in her 30s and that was her baby.
We had to take money out of our 401K when my dh was still working to fianlly pay off some school loans. On top of that we have refinanced more than once. Our house would have been paid for if we had not refinanced. So, now we find ourselves in deep doo-doo. But I probably wouldn't change anything although Susie Ormand says NOT to pay for your children's college if you have to go into your retirement or borrow. They can get their own school loans. Well, perhaps not so easy today.
I do not think it's a RIGHT to go to college. My sil worked and payed his way through college. It took him a bit longer, but he did it. And I'm sure he's proud of what he has accomplished ON HIS OWN! I take that back. If I knew what I know now my girls probably would have paid their own way plus we wouldn't have given these ADULT children ANY money toward their weddings. Heck, we borrowed for one's wedding and took some out of the 401K for the other one. One isn't married and knows she'll not give on red penny from us. LOL IO wonder if I should ask for our money back PLUS interest?

I don't watch some TV channels, but after the Biden/Palin debate did Joe give personal interviews with TV stations? And was he questioned about his misstatements during the debate by anyone? There were some doozies. I don't see much of him at all giving interviews lately after his patriotic call to pay more taxes.
-
ibc, Hmmmmm....wonder why I've always thought you had a higher education. So, you got through a redneck university. CONGRATULATIONS! I managed to get a high school degree and my spelling is not what it used to be. Thank goodness for spell check! You sound might educated and mighty wise to me.
Sorry about your hearing loss. Was it due to the Viet Nam war? I watched McCain and Obama on the charity dinner last night and laughed pretty hard. I watched McCain as he picked up his glass to drink from it. You can tell he cannot lift his arm/s high. I thought he may knock someone beside him with that elbow. LOL POW injuries and people make fun of how old he looks. He doesn't walk as nicely as the tall Obama. But I've seen McCain walk/skip/run or whatever down some stairs. He's 10 years older than me and I take them very carefully.
I think the Old Man McCain still has it in him. And I think if he gets elected he will STILL fight for our country.

Edited to add I didn't use spell check. So excuse any misspelled words or typos.

LuAnn, I couln't read past this question in your post. I'll finish reading your post in a minute.
I suppose you haven't noticed just how badly Palin has been treated. Some people truly hate her. I believe some people truly FEAR her. She's a strong woman, and I think she ought to be herself and be interviewed. On second thought, maybe not. Look how the View treats politicians for which they do not like. I don't watch that show, but I've seen clips. I did hear today that she will difinitely be on SNL Saturday niight. KUDDOS for her!
Republicans do lie and many of them have been caught. I'm too embarrassed to look them up and name their lies and tell you what they lied about. I'll leave that research up to you.
Biden has made so many gaffes and gets by with it without too much attention payed to him. One biggy...during his debate he talked about the restaurant he frequents and how he talks to those poor people...LuAnn..the restaurant hasn't been there for, I think, 30 years. I'm not wasting my time looking up how many years it's been gone, but he told a downright lie. He said he spends a lot of time in Home Depot..maybe or maybe not. Wish there were cameras in there to prove it. He makes it sound like he's talking to the middle class all the time. He says thant no plumber lives in his neighborhood making $250,000 a years. They make much less. LuAnne, I have a secret to tell you or a bridge to sell you...I be NO ONE lives in his neighborhood making $40,000 0 $50,000 a year. I'm sure they ALL make hundreds of thousands.
I'm not worried about Palin being VP. In fact, we women on this thread have been talking about her way before she was THE CHOSEN ONE.
Now, back to reading your post.
Forgive any mistakes, typos, spelling

Geez, gal, I had to stop reading again.
What does Obama know about the economy. Obviously history hasn't taught him anything. Use Mr. Google to look up Hoover and what he did for this country. Oh, he's the one that was on TV in 1929 according to your VP choice, Biden. Except I think he said it was Roosevelt.
What does either one of these candidates KNOW what to do about this economy? NOTHING! Even the smartest, most wisest economist don't know. It's like playing poker (I don't know how to play poker), they're gambling. As far as foreign policy. I challenge you to go back to Rosemary's link and read about what Obama said about meeting with people who hate us, dicators, without preconditions. If his own running mate said that's stupid (my adjective). That's before he was chosen to be the running mate. Hillary said it was stupid..really I believe she used the word, "naive." Go back to that link. They will link you up with the exact place to find "Obama in his own words."
Now, back to reading your post. Still luv ya

LuAnn, I had to stop again. LOL However, perhaps someone else has aleady told you that the man was not killed! The thesis...because Obama's life is not known except for what he wants to pretend he did or didn't do. It takes a lot of research..digging...to find the truth. However, once hypnotized by Obama you'll never believe anything a person tells you are directs you to. So, therefore, I GIVE UP.
Perhaps you can tell me why Ted Kennedy got by with killing a woman. Read the story..lie. And the Kennedy's are all so charming and are the darlings of the democratic party. There should have been a huge investigation into this matter, but there never was. I remember that incident and that was before I became this political junkie. I thought back then when I was quite young that something was mighty fishy.
-
LuAnn, I have to stop again about how you do not like Bush. Find. Did McCain not tell Obama that he was not Bush and that if he wanted to run against Bush, Obama should have done it four years ago. One thing McCain did that was extremely dangerous to his career as a Senator is that he was all over Rumsfield's case about how the war was being executed. And he called for more troops (surge) back in 2003 if I have my facts right. I believe Bush finally listened to him and sent more troops in early 2007. And I didn't like how Patreus, this most honorable general, was portrayed by some of the dems including Hillary. I didn't see many dems defending this man.

I'm talking to myself. That's what happens when one comes to the boards late in the afternoon. I normally let dh control the computer first. LOL I'm such a good wife.
