"Freedom of speech was never meant to be a license for fringe groups to insult and antagonize the rest of us," says Larry Stickney, President of the Washington Values Alliance.
So inother words Shirley, Freedom of Speech is great so long as we don't have TOO MUCH Freedom of Speech. Neat concept. So we should, I suppose, outlaw that Freedom of Speech we don't agree with.

Hi Moody!!!! Glad you are feeling great .....

For once I got the tootsie roll center in the tootsie pop! $$
Sorry Sherri!
Thanks Rock and Sherri, glad to be coherent again! This "catching up" is for the birds!

Says Roctobermom:
You're right ilj .. I see her post over here. I don't think anyone minded her coming in here. But me thinks that Barb is another poster in disguise ... I saw that post before it was deleted. Seems Barb and jaedeen suddenly appear on the scene ready to rumble, not the norm for new posters.
Excellent point! Except that I have been registered on this site longer than you have. LOL! I surely do take a long time to rev up before I 'rumble!' ROFL!!!
None of you lovely women read quickly enough to been afforded an attempt to discuss why it is that republicans kill even the opportunity for debate on unanimous, bipartisan breast cancer research bills, either. It seems it's a better use of our time and resources to discuss whether or not the words we use offend than to discuss that so a number of you hit that old button. I guess that's just human nature. *sigh*
It's okay. I've been cut, poisoned, and burned. I survived that. I can survive this.
I'd say that is quite odd behavior for breast cancer survivors but some of you might be offended, so I guess the subject of politics and breast cancer is a touchy subject here. I hope it's okay to post information from a government website. I guess I won't know until I try:
Reid Statement On Republican Blocking Of Breast Cancer ResearchApril 21, 2008
Washington, DC-Nevada Senator Harry Reid made the following statement today after Republicans blocked efforts to debate, amend or pass the Breast Cancer and Environmental Research Act:
"It is nothing short of unconscionable that Republicans are refusing to even debate legislation that would allow us to better understand the connection between the development of breast cancer and the environment. But for one Senator, we could pass legislation that would allow us to invest in research that might help us understand why a new case of breast cancer is diagnosed every two minutes. But for one Senator, we could invest in research that could lead to better prevention, treatment and perhaps one day a cure for breast cancer.
"Republicans have not only blocked our efforts to unanimously pass this bipartisan bill, but they have rejected our offer to have a debate on this legislation with amendments. I respect minority rights, but for one Senator to singlehandedly block our ability to have a reasonable debate on a bill cosponsored by more than two-thirds of the Senate is a blatant abuse of those rights. I call on the Republican leadership to reconsider our offer to debate this bill. Too many women and their families have waited long enough."
(no need to worry about copyright infringement.) This is from a Senate.gov website.

Enough of this boring stuff! Let's discuss what words mean!
-
Yeah and most of them get deleted before they're here five minutes. LOL!
No, they weren't nasty. They were a lot like that one. We'll see how long it stays up.
If you want to look up which republican wouldn't even allow the unanimous, bipartisan bill to be heard on the floor, you might try google. Since you don't trust my sources, you might fare better that way.
What do the references to tootsie pops mean? Will there be a reference to that again sometime very soon?
-
Jaedeen ... seems like you just came in to rumble. Your other posts are so old it was before the system changed over. So you have no positive track record but you came out swinging. So just because you may be registered longer, YOU my friend are still a new poster. Hope you are over your bc .. you can go talk about how much you hate republicans and how they want you to die with the other ladies. They hate republicans.
-
I have only five posts in a 24 hr period.
I'd really love to know what the reference to tootsie pops is. I notice you use it often, and usually just after someone's post has been removed.
Is there a correlation?
-
Atheists are a bunch of whiners. Instead of minding their own business they want to get into the Christian's business.
Shirley
-
Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi....they're twins. And, I didn't go to the link that was provided by the poster who hates republicans (can't imagine why she's on this thread..republican one....icky...why would you want to dirty your fingers?), but I wonder if there's something else in that bill that's full of crap?

I need to find that pick of Pelosi again ... she is awful!!!
Explain to me why the bailout now has to be 600 billion and earmarks for internet and green energy? Is this internet for our government services or for individual homes? How does that bail us out? And unless the green thing is to produce jobs, I don't see it helping ... I saw on 60 minutes that Saudi Arabia is going to continue working to drill and keep the price lower with their new horizontal drills.
Here's the article on Pelosi:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has increased the size of the economic stimulus package she will support when Congress reconvenes next month, saying it will need to be $500 billion to $600 billion.
That's up from the $400 billion to $500 billion that House Democrats had been expecting. Pelosi gave the figure during an interview with Al Hunt of Bloomberg Television's "Political Capital with Al Hunt."
"This week we had our most recent presentations from economists to tell us what - how robust such a package should be in order to have an impact on the economy, to turn the economy around," Pelosi said. "Economists told us that the package had to be strong enough, half a trillion, $600 billion, somewhere near that."
Pelosi said the package would not be like "a 1930s public works project" but instead would have such modern components as broader access to quick Internet connections and greener forms of energy. She echoed the number of jobs and the components that President-elect Obama unveiled just before Thanksgiving.
"The key number is 2.5 million jobs in the next few years that we want this package to stimulate," Pelosi said. "I hear people say, ‘Oh, they want a 1930s public works project.' No. Certainly we will have public works projects in it, but it's about broadband for all Americans. It's about a smart, modern grid to be able to transmit the new, renewable energy - wind, solar, biofuels and the rest. It's about a very modern approach to building the infrastructure of America."

One more time: The bill was a UNANIMOUS, BIPARTISAN bill.
ONE senator blocked even a debate on it.
ONE.
I just don't understand why it is somehow threatening to someone to even debate something but that senator thought it was. BTW, he is a cancer survivor so it's not like he's ignorant to the issues. Of course, his healthcare is taken care of by taxpayers, right?
-
As far as the breast cancer bill is concern the Republican just wants on word changed.........the bill is set up for the whole thing to go to one research lab which only supports Democratic causes.......this one lab already gets millions in grant money and the Republican who by the way has had cancer twice thinks that the research money that is up for grabs should go to different research clinics not just one........the chances for finding a cure and/or better tx are increased the more the money is spread around instead on just going to one research lab who is lead by one of the biggest Democratic lobbyists in Washington.........Jaedeen why don't you do your research?.......
-
Did I tell you gals I got my daughter a snow globe ... of Wicked!! She loved that at the theater ...
-
One more time:
BIPARTISAN (BOTH PARTIES)
UNANIMOUS (SUPPORTED BY EVERYONE)
We're not talking about voting on it. We're talking about debating it. The republican wouldn't debate it. I did my research. No cancer survivor, especially a physician who has seen the pain and suffering caused by this disease, should stop mere debate on the issue.
There is no excuse for this.
-
I sure that some lawyer who has never had cancer knows more then a medical doctor that is also a member of the House of Representatives that is a cancer survivor...........Bipartisan bill........what a laugh...........everyone of us that actually has had breast cancer owes this member of the House not the Senate a great big thank you for watching out for us instead of just handing our hard earned tax dollars to another big pork spending Democrat Washington Lobbyist............
-
He has the courage to stand up and say no when the one line headlines make he out to be some kind of heartless Republican and he doesn't care.......he knows what is right..........this research lab has already got millions of our tax money and they still haven't find a cure for breast cancer..........why in the world would you think for one minute that it is a good idea to hand them more money instead of maybe just maybe sending some of this money to other research clinics and working University hospitals to do other research...........you don't even know what you are talking about...........
-
Thomas Coburn......Representative from Oklahoma..........thank goodness...........voted against breast cancer bill because all the money is going to one Research facility that is represented by one of the biggest Democrat lobbyists in Washington and in turn she gets millions in finder fees and then gives thousands back to such organizations as the Democrat National Committee......"moveon.org.....etc........what losers
-
Shokk ... blaest/jaedeen/barbdwyer
-
Sherri-an Okie comes to the rescue again.Schokk, thanks for always finding the real answer. The dems never look at the reason's a repub votes no. Remember when they accused McCain as being against the troops when he refused to vote for a bill that was so full of pork you could not see the troop support in it.
I wonder if Obama, with his Chicago thugs will run these new "jobs" program like they do in Chicago:"You can have this contract if you vote on this line, and pay that campaign." This will give them lots of ways to buy votes. No wonder they love it. Lots of road projects that will take 5 years to complete per mile because the union says 3 guys need to hold traffic control signs, and 3 more have to ride in the paving trucks.
-
Correcto about not trusting what Harry Reid has to say about something, anything. He does that all the time, pointing fingers at either Bush or other repubs, when his own party is screwing up. It's called deflection. He does it well.
I was just reading that the Obama birth certificate issue is not over yet. The Supremes have another case they are conferencing about to see if they want to give it a full hearing. If there is nothing to hide, then produce a birth certificate that has the seal of the State on it, and end this. Obama is keeping suspicion alive and it won't go away with all the cases around the nation looking for relief from the courts.
Another thing, why do the Supremes have to conference on this? Our Constitution says anyone running for President has to be a citizen. Period. All they have to do is ask for the birth certificate and that ends this. Why won't they ask for it? This whole thing is nuts!
-
Jadeen, could you please explain how a bill can be "UNANIMOUS" if it was not voted on, and even one congressman is against it? Perhaps you are using a different dictionary than I am.
That bill is representative of one of the problems with so much legislation, a good basic idea can become twisted into a not so good thing when it is bogged down with pork, or with being poorly worded so that there are unintended consequences, such as a cancer research bill being twisted into becoming a partisan funding source.
Lets be thankful that Sen. Coburn noticed the issue with the specific wording, and now we might be able to get other promising research from a variety of sources funded, not just from one specific, and apparently politically connected lab.
-
Coburn said the research called for in the breast cancer bill he is blocking already is being conducted. He said about $600 million a year is being spent on breast cancer research, and the National Institutes of Health is spending $100 million.
"This is politics driving research instead of peer-reviewed science driving research," he said.
Coburn, a physician, said he is not opposed to breast cancer research and that two of his closest relatives -- his sister and sister-in-law -- had breast cancer. But he said there are other types of cancer that would benefit from more research dollars as well..
Coburn said he considers three factors before blocking a bill: whether the money spent is offset in some way rather than adding to the deficit; whether the proposal duplicates something already being done in the federal government; and whether the proposal represents a proper role for the federal government.
Sen. Coburn was correct. The sister study, which my sister is doing, is all about her environment. I come from a family of 4 sisters, two of us got it, and the other 2 didn't.
By the way, they're still looking for more sisters to enroll. They're trying to get 50,000 enrollees from all over the country.
-
It's very hard to come here and attack us and get away feeling smug that you outwitted us. We are a bunch of professional researchers here. Should someone want to just say Hi, I have a question, could you kindly answer it, we'd fall all overselves to help anyone.
To come here and jump our bones, isn't nice. We don't appreciate it. Otherwise, Jaedeen, you are welcome here. Any more questions you might have?
-
Hey Rocky yeah I knew who it was............sorry but I could not let that go.......I did a lot of research over the summer concerning this bill because there was a thread about it and it just really p***sed me off..........I really am sick and tired of the game that Washington is playing with all of our money and our lives in many cases.........and that goes for Democrats as well as Republicans..........I am sick and tired of the freaking pork that is added to every bill including raises for Judges that is included in the auto bailout bill.........it is a bunch of crap.............oh and by the way I have shingles for the fourth time since having bc and I am extremely bitchy so I am really sick and tired of all this crap.......I am tired of people like Blame that posts these fly by's without doing the research and they are just here to cause trouble.........there are a lot of women that read but never post and they have the right to know the truth...........they are sick and tired and scared and they read crap like Blame posted and they are thinking that there is some Congressman (don't care if they are Republican or Democrat) that is blocking some bill on breast cancer because they don't care if we live or die which is the furtherest thing from the truth.......they are blocking it because their vote is not for sale and they are more concern what the bill really represents then they are about their own reputation...........Shokk
-
Shokk, I am glad you put that matter to bed!
I've got shingles again ... 3rd time but dang, it's the 2nd time in 3 months! The last time it lasted well over a month.
-
Yeah Rocky Coburn is such a horrible person.........imagine that he want's some of this money to go to research for childhood cancers like leukemia.................one thing I know for sure is if one of my kids got cancer and I had a choice about which one of us had cancer and where some research money should go........it would be no contest............if my child was sick I would want all the money to go to their cancer and I would die with bc before I would want them to have to go through cancer treatment as a child instead as an adult...........(((((((Rocky))))) I so feel your pain!!!!!!...........ha,,,,,,,,,,,,this time it is on my Radiation side and it is killing me.............jeez...............$$ $$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$........Shokk
-
I should change my name to Rocky, that would be way easier for people!!
-
Oh and one more thing........Blame was right about Coburn being a Senator instead in the House of Representatives..............so see when I am wrong I will admit it but I am not wrong on the reason that Coburn is blocking this bill............it's not in our best interest as bc survivors and finding better treatment and/or finding a cure.................Shokk
-
Hey Rocky you have always kinda of reminded me of the character Rocky in that your strong and dedicated to what you believe.......whether it is agreeing with us or them............ha..........because you do your research..........(training)..........later guys got to take daughter to symphony practice..........Shokk
-
Rocktobermom, did you HAVE to mention Pelosi's name.
Here's some "Maxines" I just couldn't resist. I'd love to send them to PELOSI!
AND THE LAST ALTHOUGH I COULD FIND SO MUCH MORE! I JUST LOVE MAXINE. SHE'S MY HERO! SHE IS A VERY WISE WOMAN.
