food log- let's get specific

Thanks Nicki. Don't forget that you can do this too. I know I have been lucky that I haven't got any major side effects so that I could do a lot of exercises without feeling any pain. So for those who have got sore joints etc from AI's, it may take a bit longer to achieve your goals. But it's not to say you can't be where I am now. Or you could lose more weight if you looked carefully at what you're eating. Actually staying under 1400 kcal isn't as hard as I thought. For example, you could use 1 whole egg and 2 egg whites to make an omelet instead of 3 whole eggs. 1 egg york is enough to make an omelet tastes yummy and 3 egg whites with 1 egg york would still make you feel full. Just try to stay away from too many carbs and eat good protein instead. I still do eat carbs but make sure I avoid too much of carb intake after lunch.
Let's keep working. We can do this if we don't give up. And you know you're strong because you've fought with this damn disease!

Fumi, congratulations on your progress! I have been busy too and not posting here but I have thought about you food logging sisters and wondered where you were and how things were going. Since my last post I have maintained my weight but definitely have converted some of it into muscle with the triathlon training I've been doing. The triathlon is a week from today. Training has been a lot of work, just like eating healthy foods is a lot of work. It all takes effort and planning but is so worth it. For anyone discouraged out there I have done this while on an AI (Femara) and with menopause as of last year. I was on Lupron initially but my onc just recently decided it would be okay to stop it. I actually find exercise to be helpful in decreasing the stiffness I have from the Femara.
I have recently been eating a diet that limits carbs...South Beach Diet basically, and notice that in addition to the weight loss/weight control benefits I FEEL so much better- much more energy, my head feels clearer, I am happier. These positive side effects caught me totally by surprise but are even more motivating than the weight loss aspect of the diet. My goal is to lose another 10 pounds, possibly 15 but I will decide based on how I look and feel after the 10.
I plan to be back with some food logs soon but maybe I will do it as an intermittant thing or weekly thing.
Fumi is right, we can do this!

Wow Allyson, I didn't know you're doing a triathlon. Is that the first time for you to do that or you're pretty much used to it? Did you say a week from today? I will be sending a lot of positive energy your way. Good luck!
I too have noticed that I've developed some lean muscles, especially in my legs. I guess that's because I have been walking and the cardio workout program I've been doing requires a lot of leg movements. My calves are getting as solid as ever. I too have been on an AI (Tamoxifen) and Lupron since February of 2006 and used to get those nasty hot flashes. But now I realize they are completely gone. I don't know why, maybe I've lost some fat or doing exersice has helped? It's been freaking hot and humid here but since I don't get hot flashes anymore, it's much easier to cope. One of unexpected benefits I've got from this. Like you Allyson, I am happier than I was before and actually I'm proud of myself. I never knew I could do this. I have never had as much self-confidence as I have now in my entire life.
