Oh Cathi! You have to post the one of Margo looking at her plate and Alexcis watching her very carefully.....that one tells a whole story!
-
You got it Barbe. You leave this week don't you for the big day???
Sue it is raining here today and will most all week, but we can't complain yet as we are in such a drought, we need this rain.
This is Alexcis and Margo having a tea party on Saturday.
-
I LOVE it!!!! What is on the plate, Cathi?
-
Rocks - from a flower bed, she didn't really eat any. It is amazing watching the imagination in children, Alexcis is so good at amuzing herself too, but her mom was like that , Jaclyn could play for hours by herself, my other daughter, total opposite. When Alexcis goes home Margo always acts depressed, we of coarse walk her, play with her - but it's not the same as the constant attention from a 5 year old I guess, as they can run around the yard and house for hours.
Oh yeah I gotta mention, we have always been a pretty open family, me and DD's and now Alexcis as far as no issues with changing in front of each other, well anyway Alexcis and I are putting on our suits, she was 3 whan I was DX, so she has always known pretty much Me-ma has sick boobies, anyway, she ask's me, 'Me-Ma whan are your boobies gonna grow back?" So explained again that I had "sick ones" and the Dr's had to operate so I would't be sick again, and boobies don't grow back. So she lifts up her bathing suit top and want's to know if hers are ever gonna get sick, of coarse I said know, but what a hard question, boy did I say a quick prayer for her.
-
Out of the mouth of babes....!
-
Exactly Barbe, but at least from the mouth of babes it is understandable and acceptable, not like the BIL's bimbo. And I guess from a 5 year olds view it is a pretty scary thought, she has always spent so much time with us and for awhile I was pretty sick and wasn't able to play and do fun stuff with her, so we have always been as honest as possible and tried to explain things at her level of understanding, I guess I have had a little taste of what so many of our girls go through with small children at home, I can't begin to imagine how hard it is with tots 24/7 and going through all this crap.

Everyone was chatty over the weekend. Barb, happy late birthday!
Thanks for the compliments on the wall hanging. As I said, it was my grandmother and mother who gave me the love of sewing. My boss saw the baby quilt I am making for a coworker and he said that I am talented. Of course I don't think so since I have been around sewing/quilting all my life, it is just something that I do. Everyone says that they don't have the patience to do that but when I am sitting at home watching tv, I need to keep my hands busy and quilting/sewing is better than eating, right?
Cathi, your granddaughter sounds like my great nephews. The oldest one (3.5 yrs old) will pretend that he is stirring something on a pretend stove and come to you with the spoon and want you to taste what he is making. They are both good at entertaining themselves. The youngest (1 at the end of the month) is so funny, he gets into things his older brother didn't do at that age.
Sue, I didn't have to take any AD's but you do need to see the doctor and get his input on medicine changes.
I do need to get back to work.
Love Sheila

Good for you ivorymom!! Fight back!
Cathi, love the pics, the Tea party is adorable!!
Hello to everyone else!

Hi Guys
Good news. Saw my consultant today, and they are going to try a lump. (about 2cm) first as the chemo, which nearly killed me, has worked well, If there is anything suspicious in the margins, will be a mast (don't care kiddos, really don't) but he has hopes this might be all that's needed. Getting my pre op assessment on Friday, then a month to recover my health as the regimen I was on afffects all your vital organs, especially the heart. So I have a month off!!!!!. Will get lymph nodes removed and rads. and on Herceptin (18 session) but I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off me.
If only I could stay awake!!!!
Cathi, what you said about Alexis asking about her wee boobies wrung my heart.
I was down visiting my brother and all my friends 2 weeks ago in Blackpool. My neice (of whom my bro has sole custody) is 12 in September and is terrified as she is convinced she will get BC. Her Aunt (her mum's sister) was diagnosed with BC when she was breastfeeding her baby - she was 38 at the time, 3 years ago, and now that I have got it, it is praying on the sweet child's mind. She is complaining of pains! Hugh, my dear bro , told her they were just growing pains that that very girl her age gets them. Imagine being 12 and scared of cancer!
We don't want to lie to her or patronise her (she's way too bright for that anyway) so can anyone sugggest anything? It's awful that children caan carry such fears. I hardly knew what a boob was at 12!
On a brighter note, thought I would share some absolutly crappy jokes with you, if I may ...
How did the stranded pig get down from the roof?
The Swine Flu.
At the Baker's Olympics, a pasrty chef was disqualified for making a false tart.
What noise annoys an oyster? A noisy noise annoys an oyster!
A frog walks into a bank to ask for a loan. His teller is called Patsy Whack. She asks his name. The frog replies "Kemit Jagger, proud son of Mick Jagger" She asked him if he has any collateral. He produces a beautiful snake figurine. Nonplussed, she seeks the Manager for advice about the collateral, if it was acceptable...
HIs reply ...
"It's a knicknack, Patsy Whack, give the frog a loan, for his father is a rolling stone!" (Helps if you sing it.)
What do you call a cat who has just eaten a WHOLE duck?
A duck filled fatty puss!
I thank you.
Nettie xx

Nettie - those jokes are great - I got a good chuckle.
Well I am no expert on BC and children, I have read alot of the mom's postings here at BC.org, and from my experience with Alexcis, I guess the majority say 'tell the truth" in a manner proper for the child's age with the questions and fears, I do believe that as well, we all know the fear of the unknown is terrible and with children's imaginations they can dream up a whole bunch of fears.
Nettie I think there are some good children's books or perhaps something online your niece can read that maybe will help and explain BC better to her.
Good luck and sending hugs your way.
-
I think the fact that we are setting an example for them will help them deal with it if it ever happens to them. We didn't lie down and die.....I'm just as wild and crazy as I was before my cancer!
I remember when I was sending the kids across the country by plane to visit my Mom in Vancouver. A plane had just blown up leaving Vancouver recently. My daughter asked me if her plane was going to blow up (she was 6 at the time) and I said, "Well, if I knew it was going to blow up I wouldn't let you get on it. And if it does, then you'll be in God's house before me!" "Oh, okay." she said and walked away....that was it!
-
Nettie I do like your jokes. Here are a few from me
How do you catch a unique rabbit?
u nique up on it (you sneak up on it).
How do you catch a tame rabbit?
Tame way.
I agree that the best way to deal with a child's fears is to tell them the truth in a way that they can understand. When my aunt was diagnosed with mets from an undetermined cancer in 1978, she had 2 boys (7 and 11), their father set down with them and explained that they were going to fight this cancer as hard as they could. Our two families were living in a large house that had been converted into a duplex and part of my job as a 17 yr old was to keep the boys out of trouble and help take care of my aunt when she wasn't feeling well from the treatments. I think both boys understood what was going on and it would have been harder on them if we hadn't kept them informed along the way.

Barbe I have just got to meet you someday YOUR ONE SMART LADY!!! . And Shelia I do agree, the truth is always the best even for children - they are not dumb no matter how young they are.
-
Hi sisters. Didn't read much. Have the dreaded head ache again..just trying to cope with work.
I'll check in later when i feel better.
Love to all!
Lisa
-
Cathi, be careful what you wish for!
Lisa, I am officially concerned about your headache. Have you gotten your eyes checked lately? This happened to me last fall and I found out I need bifocals and had to wear glasses all the time! I THOUGHT I was seeing well.....
-
I got new glasses. I am waking up with them Barbe. Maybe it's stress, tension, sinus? I just got off the sinus antibiotic. All I know, is these are brutal. I could sleep too!
Thanks for your concern Barbe.
Sheila, if I didn't tell you earlier...(I forget)...I LOVED the quilt! You are such an awesome, helpful and caring person...and talented as well!
Cathi...can't see the pics here...but in my mind I pictured Margo and Alexcis with the rocks...too cute! How lucky you are to spend so much time with your precious grandchildren. That would probably cure my headaches!
Nettie..you are such a card!! Loved the jokes.
Say a prayer my dear sisters. My very dearest girlfriend Kim...I am sure I have talked about her here. She has been having pains...they thought possibly kidney stones. Well, I just found out that it's not that...she has a 4 cm cyst (more of a mass) near or on her ovary. The gyno...DID NOT LIKE WHAT SHE SAW...we know that is never a good sign. She did blood work..and will know more tomorrow. My friend is leaving on Wed. to visit her dying sister (cancer!!!) in Kansas City....she has so much on her plate right now. I am praying that the cyst is B9..and no worries!!
Love you all,
Lisa
-
sorry...I just re-read my post...does it even make any sense?
-
Lisa, it all makes sense...so hard for your friend! She is now in my prayers...
If you are just off sinus antibiotic, did you have an infection? Maybe it's not clearing. You have 5 sinus areas in your face and if one of them gets infected...it affects them all. I hope you figure this out soon, you have enough on your plate without this.
(You sure it's not just a ploy to keep Olivia home?
)
Hugs.....
-
Thanks Barbe. I felt better after the antibiotic. I took a muscle relaxer this morning, it helped some. I think I am tensing my muscles during sleep, the ones in my neck. This could be contributing to the headaches also.
Haha..I don't think anything would keep Olivia home...unless of course Dru would stay here...lol
Thanks for praying for my girlfriend. She will hear how the blood work comes back today.
Back to work and lunch.
xoxo

Hi everyone. I've had very little computer time--my laptop is still dead and Portia is always on hers. In fact, she'll be home in a half hour (1/2 days for the next three days). Sigh.......
I was so sorry to read about everyone's aches and pains. I'm also very concerned about Cheryl's son, Jane's sister, and Lisa's friend. Big hugs to everyone!!!!!!
I had a trans-vaginal ultrasound yesterday (so much fun), and I'm happy to say that my ovarian cyst is gone.
Well, Portia will be home any minute, so I'd better run. Hopefully, I can get my laptop up and running again this week. I love you all and miss coming here to check up on you all.
Hugs,
Karen

Oh! Forgot to mention that I saw an orothopedic surgeon and I don't need surgery on my hip. He doesn't think my pain stems from the torn tendon. He says I probably have some degenerative stuff going on in there. I've fallen several times in recent years (I'm so graceful), and he thinks that's what's causing it.
-
PS I bawled for the entire two hours of Farrah's Story.
-
Well, that's good news about your hip and all, but what about the pain? Are they able to do anything for that?
-
((((((Cathi and Jaclyn))))) Here's hoping for a fast recovery for Jaclyn........
-
Thanks Hollyann . Karen good news (sorta) about the hip, but you still have pain???
We are still soaked in rain, thats good, but it is also freezig and windy (mid 70"s) thats cold for this time of year when you ad the North wind. I actually had to put on pants and poor Margo has a new Sweater on today -she hates the cold and wet ground.
-
I figured it must be raining down there Cathi..our bags from Orlando were wet!
Karen...that is good news...but not the pain.
Good news about my friend Kim...the blood work showed tumor markers were good.
-
Great news for Kim!
