Wow! It took me forever to catch up!
First off, I have to comment on your insurance woes, Nancy. WTF???? It makes no sense to me. I have Medco and they paid for my two rounds of TAC (the doc switched me to TC for my last four rounds). It's absolutely ridiculous that you should have to pay cash up front for something like that. Unreal! I'm just livid right now.
Lisa, I'm so sorry you're sick, sweetie. Stomach bugs are so miserable. I hope you're feeling better soon. Take good care and get lots of rest.
Sue, how wonderful that you're getting back pay on the disability! And a disabled parking pass too! I had one when I was pregnant with Chase. I had to park up a steep hill and the walk just about killed me at the end of each day. With the pass, I was able to park in the building's parking garage.
AE--wow, 6 1/2 hours! That's a long one! I don't think I was ever in the infusion room for longer than 3 1/2 hours--not even when I was doing TAC. What a long day for you and poor UB. I'll keep you both in my prayers. I hate bootface with a passion!
Jule, those photos are great! How exciting to be that close to the ruby slippers. Gosh, I love that movie. I never get tired of watching it. Your job would be my brother's dream job. He's an avid fisherman and he and my SIL own property on the Cowlitz river. Steelhead is my daughter's favorite fish. Pretty tasty!
Shirlann, I'm so jealous of you! I told my dh that I wanted us to do more traveling. I've always been a total homebody, but bootface has really changed that. I want to see as much as I can, while I can.
Jane, Wren, Mel, Sheila, Ulla, Ann, Annie, Lucy---hugs to you all!!
I'm really going to miss Tender
.
Love and hugs,
Karen

OK, things have been explained: Medco is just the company that distributes the drugs...the actual cause for this is my UnitedHealthCare policy which tries to control the drug distribution by having an "approved drug list". It tries to substitute generics for brand-name drugs whenever possible, and will deny the brand-name coverage UNLESS the dr makes his case for it (mainly disparaging the efficacy of the generic in some cases).
However, none of the TAC drugs are on the list in any form, brand or generic, so it's an automatic denial. I can appeal, and I certainly WILL get on that today. It has happened before to me but in a less critical situation. It takes a few weeks, but they do come around. I won't wait that long for my first chemo, though, and even if I have to pay cash for all the chemo until my surgery, my family has the resources to do it, thank goodness.
But the added stress and paperwork is NOT appreciated.
Off to work and to camp out in the HR office.

Hi all
Sorry I have been away for a while. Yes I am having LOTS of fun with my new man he he. But he only comes over a couple of days a week as he lives about 3 hours away. But during the week I just run around like a crazy woman just trying to keep the house, job and kids going! I dont sit down until about 9.30 - 10pm then i go to bed about half an hour after! ha ha this single mother lark is no meen feat!
Love you all and thinking of you
(by the way the only reason I had time to get in touch is becausemy youngest Ellis has some strange rash so the school sent him home, he seems fine though! Thank goodness for kids eh!)
-
It's so good to hear from you, Lucy! I'm glad you're having fun with your new man. I know how it is when you're a single mom--having my dh is not much help. I'm just as busy now, even though I'm not working. I now have TWO kids that keep me very busy. dh leaves at around 6am and comes home most nights at around 8 or 9pm. Sigh................
And I thought First Choice was difficult about approving things, Nancy. Good luck with your appeal. I'm glad that your family can afford to pay cash for your first tx so you don't have to wait.
bbl ladies! Have a great day.
Hugs,
Karen

Hi everyone!
I went to bed early because I was sooo tired from my busy week but then I woke up not long after 2am, lay awake until 3 and then decided I would get up and get on here. It's now nearly 4.30 so I will probably go back to bed soon and try to get some more sleep!
Nancy - good luck with your battle with your insurance company. It really stinks that you have to go through this at a time like this. I so hope you get some satisfaction from them soon.
So great to hear from you Lucy! You must be so busy - I know how flat out I used to be with my 3 sons. It's lovely that you have your gorgeous man to bring some joy into your life. Glad your son's rash doesn't seem to be upsetting him. It's funny how kids get unexplained rashes - I can remember my kids having them.
AE & UB - hope you are doing ok. I guess the s/es from the treatment will be kicking in. Will pray that they are not too nasty. That Delbert - just love hearing about that dog!
Jule - your job sounds great! Hope you get some warmer weather soon - being wet and cold all day doesn't sound so good but it must be great to get out and about and have all that variety.
Hi Karen, Lisa, Sue - I am worried about your lack of sleep - I so hope that your first day back at work was not too dreadful and that you can come home and rest.
Bbl. Love to everyone. I think I will crawl back into bed now and try to get some zzzzs.

Not much happening here - I guess that's a good thing. UB just got back from his Neulasta shot. He's a bit tired, so he will be napping for awhile. YIPPEE!!! I can finally get some computer time.
Gearing up for my day in the freezer tomorrow. lol. It really is not that bad, its the 2hr. drive out there that I hate!!
Nice to see Lucy pop in - glad everthing is working out.

Hi Sue! Hi Jane! Hi AE!!!!!
No, AE. Jule and I are on opposite ends of the state. She's in Eastern Washington, and I'm in Western Washington. She gets much colder weather there in the winter and much hotter weather in the summer. I'm near Seattle and get TONS of raaaaiiiiiinnnnn!! In fact, it's been very rainy and miserable here the past couple of days. The weekend should be decent though.
Hope Jane, UB, and Sue are getting some sleep. Sue, I worry about your lack of sleep too. You are going to crash and burn if you don't get some more rest, Missy!
bbl.
Hugs,
Karen
-
Karen - how long of a drive would it be from your place to Jules? Just curious.
-
Lucy, I spent 10 yrs as a single parent, I know what you are going through. At one point, I was working full time in the furniture factory sewing upholstery and going to school at nights. If it wasn't for my family, I could not have done it. My mom, dad, sister, and brothers all watched John at some point during the 4 yrs it took to get my 2 yr degree. John was aslo involved in recreation league soccer (football for the Brittish) and he had either games or practices 3 or 4 times a week that they would have to take him too. fortunately one symester, I had a brake at the time most of his games were scheduled and the community college was 1 mile from Redwood Park so I could catch most of the games.
AE, my posts would look the same, and I am the one typing the recipes for our church cookbook to send to the publisher
. Several people are however proofreading the recipes for me.
Sue, I am also worried about you not sleeping. Here is something I want you to do - take your left hand and place it on your right shoulder, take your right hand and place it on your left shoulder and squeeze - It is a big hug from your big sis. Now get some sleep.
I hate to leave anybody out but all have a great weekend!
Sheila

Hi sisters!!
Thanks for all the well wishes. I spent the last 2 days in bed. I didn't sleep, but I did rest. My head is still the same, as well as my tummy. I went back to work today, cause I can't afford to lose anymore time off. I feel a tad bit better, but not much. I do not know what it is? I feel like it may be a small migraine headache. I am trying not to stress, because I know that makes it worse, etc. Anyhow...I am hoping that it doesn't last too much longer.
Jule..thanks for posting those lovely pics of the ruby slippers!! Omg...my middle daughter would have had that hanging on her wall when she was younger! She was a Wizard of Oz fanatic!!
Sue...I don't know how you do it without sleep! I am getting some sleep at night, but if I didin't, I don't think I could function.. Heck...I feel like I am functioning in a haze as it is.
Thanks Sue...I got my card today!!!!!! I LOVE IT!! It was so special!! Your are amazing to me!! I love you!! Olivia loved it too!!!
AE, glad to hear our UB is doing pretty good with his tx. I know this is hard on you too...you are so strong!!!
Lucy...good to hear from you! Being a single mom, is no picnic!! I am just lucky that my youngest is now older and driving. It makes things much easier for me.
Jane...can you send some heat our way in OHIO?? It is either cold, snowy or cold and rainy here! We need some warm weather!!
Nancy...I am so sorry for the problems you are having with your Insurance Co!! That is crazy that you have to plead and appeal, just to have your tx's!! OMG!! I am very fortunate, that I had no problem whatsoever! Even my OC office, said...your insurance is good! I hope it all works out for you.
While at work today, Olivia's agent called for a last minute job. So luckily, my boss let me go home about 2 hrs early, I picked her up after school and drove her to the studio. She did a voice over for a radio commercial for McDonald's (again). All she had to say was 2 words..we were there for 15 minutes. It was worth leaving my job early and her missing her 2 hrs of work, because she ended up making over $250.00 for those 15min! If the radio commercial airs longer than 13 weeks..then she will make that all over again!! That was so great, that the same advertising agency remembered her from the commercial..and actually asked for her!! I hope this just keeps on happening!! It is her dream!!
Hello and love to all...Mel, Karen, Sheila, Wren, Shirlann, Ulla..and all of my dear dear sisters here.
xoxo

Hello ladies! Yeaaaaa its Friday! This time next week , me and my boy will be heading for Tennessee! Whoohoo! Can you tell I'm excited?
Can't wait for a big ole' hug from my momma! My mom is 80 yrs.old. God Bless her , when my nieces come home to visit , she always cooks and tells me how tired she is after , that she just doesn't have the energy anymore. So I called her and asked her what we were having for Easter. And then I said that sounds great , but I am doing all the cooking while I am there. I want her to just relax and let me do it. She has done an awesome job all these years , so it is time for her to enjoy.
OK , now the bad news
. I just picked up my car from the garage. If you don't remember , I had to get a new gas tank. four hundred and one dollars if you please!!
! The mecanic did say , I sould try to get my money back , that they had , oh I can't remember what he called it , something like a recall on the gas tank . So I am going to check into it. Hope I can get some money back.
Lisa , how are you today? Are you feeling any better? I hope so. If you're not , I hope you go to the docs. I hope you didn't go back to work to soon. How is your surgery areas doing? I know it took me a good 6 to 8 wks to recover. But you are in better shape than me. Hi to Olivia and hugs to Oliver.
Lil' sweetie.xxxx
Hi Jule , you know , I always wanted to live in Wa , and you're job , I would love to have , so is there any chance I could be your assistant?!lol With these horrible hotflashes I am having , wet and cold sounds wonderful to me!! Hope you had a good day.xxxx
Hi Jane! Sorry to hear you're sleep is off. Were you able to go back to sleep? Have you heard anymore about the house? Fingers crossed!xxxx
Hi Sue
! Oh honey , girlfriend , you are gonna crash so hard when you come off those steroids. I hope not , but prepare yourself in case you do.I remember last time , you got really depressed. But you also had shingles bad then too. Maybe it won't be so bad this time. Oh Sue so glad to hear your hair is growing back fast! Thank you Lord. I called my hairdresser and made an appt for Monday. I told her my hair is curly and I don't know what to do with it. She said not to worry , she would fix me up and no charge. So thoughtful of her. AND , I made an appt. to have my nails put back on!!! That will be Wed.. My nail tech is fab , everyone thinks they are my real nails they look that natural. OK , Sue , hope you are resting. Love you!xxxx
Lucy , so good to hear from you! Hows the hottie doing? Does he get to stay the weekend with you? Have fun and enjoy! I have a feeling , you are...xxxx
Shirlann , when are you leaving? Hope you guys have a great time. Hows Cleo and Dusty doing? Is Walt feeling better? Make sure you have someone take a pic of you and Walt on the Amazon. And have Sue post it. Love you Shirlann.xxxx
Karen , you sure sound busy with your little ones. A mom's job is never done. I'm glad to see you are so involved with them. You're a good mom.xxxx
OK , I better go and make dinner. Love you all. xxxx
Valsul , and Karyll , if you can , please stop in and let us know how you are. We miss you so much.xxxx Hugs and prayers to you all. Melody

Oh Mel....you are such a wonderful daughter!! Your dear mother is blessed to have you!! I am so happy for you, that you are getting away and going to visit your dear mom!! Is your o/h going with the 2 of you? I know you love to cook, so I am sure your mom will love having you do all the work for her. Enjoy your visit!
Thanks for the sweet pic of the little yorkie....that looks so much like Ollie when he was a pup!
-
Valerie, it would probably take about six hours for me to get to Jule's, depending on exactly where she lives. I went to college in
Eastern WA (Pullman), and it took me six hours each way.
Hugs,
Karen
-
HI Lisa! Thanks. I don't get to see my mom as often as I would like , so I just want to do everything I can for her while I am there. I even told my sister to make my moms doc appt. for when I am there so I can take her. It is just a follow up for her blood pressure. I just think of all our moms do for us , and I want to give some back. Maybe make her life a little easier. Me , my sister and mom , and my son will have the whole week to ourselves after Easter. So we will talk , and talk and talk and eat and laugh and laugh. It will be so relaxing. And after the last years events , much needed.
No my o/h is staying home with Lilly. I asked him several times if he wanted to go , but he said no. He would stay home and take care of Lilly , aka , little moster! And since my girlfriend of 25 years , that would always take care of my cat when we would go somewhere , stopped talking to me when I was diagnosed. So I am glad my o/h will take care of her. Yes , my "friend" was one of those that dropped off the face of my earth after I was dx. She and I were so close. She is a nurse. Her sister had bc. I was really shocked when she became mia. But I guess some people just can't handle it.
I will listen for Olivia's commercial. I think she has a bright future in the industry. Good luck to her.xxxx

-
Thanks for that link Sue....I needed a good laugh!
-
Lisa, I'm glad you are feeling slightly better but I so hope you feel a lot better soon. I made a suggestion in one of my posts that it sounded a bit like a migraine but I think I deleted that part out because I didn't want to sound as though I was diagnosing! I have had occasional migraines over the years - the last one was just before my mastectomy last year. They are helllish! The first time I got one I thought I was dying! I had never had a headache before and suddenly, about 8 years ago they started severe nausea and a headache so bad it felt like an axe had been wedged in my skull. Once I threw up I would start to feel better but always felt exhausted afterwards. I found that strong pain killers that had a tranquiliser added stopped the nausea, dulled the pain and made me sleep it off. I have heard that some people's migraines can last for days - I shudder to think of having to put up with that for that long. I think you should have it checked out - the doc may be able to prescribe something helpful.
On a lighter and happier note - that is just wonderful about Olivia's most recent work! She is becoming quite a star. Please pass on my congrats to her - she deserves it - and so do you! You are such a sweet and supportive mother.
I will blow really hard and try to shift some of this heat over your way. I am way over it! I am fantasising about the little cottage and the cool, crisp air in the mountains! The contract is being checked by the lawyer so hopefully, it will all be signed and sealed soon.
Mel - how lovely for you to be going to your mother's for Easter! I'll bet she is a gorgeous woman - just like her daughter. Easter really marks the beginning of spring for you northern hemispherites - eggs and chickens and new growth. I can really appreciate how you must long for the warmer weather after experiencing the restrictive aspects of the beautiful snow. It snows in the mountains on the Great Dividing Range but doesn't stay on the ground for more than a day or two usually. People love it here - such a novelty!
I hope you can get some money back from that huge bill for the car! That's dreadful!
Sue, please take a day or so off if you feel dreadfully tired when the steroids wear off. I am sure that rest must make the tx more effective. Also, please give dear Zippy a gentle pat for me and tell him I hope he is feeling better really soon.
Sheila - I don't know how you worked, studied and looked after your son! Wow - supermum! My nearest family lived 5 hours away so I found that I just couldn't work much outside the home. They did help me financially and when the boys went to their dad's for holidays, I would get cleaning jobs or blood courier work. I tried to finish my degree a couple of times when they were young but had to drop out each time. Finally finished it when the youngest one was in his final years of school.
-
WOW! What a lovely pix of Olivia! That is so much fun, real celebrity time.
Sue, I am so glad you sound so much better. You are on the home stretch now, home stretch. This nasty journey will be over.
We are leaving San Diego on the 29th, spend the nite in LA, since the flight is at 6:20am to Ft. Lauderdale, spend the nite there then get on the ship. 14 days, St. Bart's, St. Lucia, and Trinidad then 3 ports in Brazil, where I just learned, they speak Portuguese! My spanish will do me no good, I don't speak very well, anyway.
I still have the pencil problem. Sheesh, Enough already.
Hugs and kisses to all this wonderful group, Shirlann
-
Shirlann....that sounds like another amazing trip for you! How exciting!! Have you checked into getting a new mouse?
Mel...I am so sorry about the car expense!! Don't you hate that?? That is what has been happening to me lately with my car!! GRRRRRRRRRRR. I do hope you can get some money back, if that was a recalled part.
Thanks for the compliments on Olivia. She wants to act and model as a career so badly! I keep tellling her, this is a hard thing to do for a living...and how important going to college is. I know this is her passion..and I do hope that she can do what she loves. But as her mom, I have to be practical too. I told her, we would do what we can to get her there...and to pray about it too. She really needs to be in LA or NY to get things going.
-
Jane...I can relate to the migrain problems. I know how a really bad one feels...they are horrible! I did have them so bad that I vomited. This is just a small one, if that is what it is. I took the Excedrin migrain medicine..but I really shouldn't. I can't take asprin, it eats at my stomach. Right now, I feel like I am belching the taste of blood. Sorry...I know that is gross!
-
Lisa!! Wow, wow, WOW! What a great picture! Olivia looks amazing! Seriously though, it's the sort of ad you would see in a glossy women's mag. Olivia has a big future!
Mel, that is so sad about your friend. I don't understand how such a long-time friend could do this! I have to admit that I have had a similar experience. My best friend from school has shown no desire to have anything to do with me since I told her. I have known her for almost 40 years!
Sue, loved your comedian! I love how good comedians can take the simplest things and make them funny. I laughed and got tears! We have rock hard Gingernut biscuit here - you have to dunk them in your tea to eat them!
-
Shirlann - I'm really looking forward to hearing about your trip and pics would be a great bonus. It should be the end of the wet season by the time you get there so it should be good weather and everything will be green and lush - what an exotic place to go!
