Cytoxan and Taxotere ?

Hi Tara,
Most people tolerate this TX fine. I was the exception.
Take the premeds they give you and followup with the nausea medicine afterwards (as directed) and you should be fine.
Go to the Chemotherapy thread and join one of the groups there. The women are wonderful for helping one another and sharing stories.

I tolerated taxotere--TC-- very well, I think the side effects were light compared to AC. But watch out for infections. Taxotere attacks the epithelial cells, I had a urinary infection before I started on January 10, 11 prescriptions later I still have a very uncomfortable urinary infection. I went for my last infusion with a cold and got very sick; my temp started to spike and I almost had to be hospitalized...
Make sure you're clear of infections before your infusions!!!!
That's my only complaint apart from constantly bloody noses!!!!

How much weight did you TC ladies gain on the average?
-
Are you on any of the new anti-nausea meds? One of my friends had severe headaches while on the Taxotere and cytoxin and they determined it was the new type of anti-nausea drug....
-
I'm starting chemo on Friday but....my treatment is 3 cycles of 5-FU, Boxyrubicin & Cytoxan and then.....Taxotere all by itself for 3 cycles every three weeks. 18 weeks total. Has anybody heard of this?
Traci -
Katymom, I had a severe headache after my first TC infusion. They changed the pre antinausea med to Aloxi and then I didn't have any headaches. They also need to make sure the Cytoxan drips slow as that can cause sinus problems and headaches as well. My neasea has been getting worse each time, so I am now on Emend and Zofran, that did the trick with no headaches.

I had 4 treatments with Cytoxin and Adriamycin and now I am doing 4 treaments of Taxotere. Are you taking yours together or how? I have had one Taxotere so far>
This was my treatment plan as well. I just completed treatments two weeks ago. -
Spiffy, from what my onco told me the t/c has only been used for about 2 or 3 years, but in this short period has been found to be highly effective. And it causes less heart damage than the adriamycin. For a long time, it had the adriamycin added to it to make a 3 drug combo, but it has shown that it can be very effective without the adriamycin which causes more heart damage.
-
Mimi-- yep, it is definitely a badge of honor, and courage!!! Like your thinking!!
-
Mizsissy, you too with the bloody noses? I thought I was the only one! I'm on TAC every 3 weeks (was randomized to this via clinical trial). I've just had my first tx and so far, so good, except for the bloody nose (!) and my horrible reaction to the Decadron. The latter made me psychotic, and I'm not kidding.
-
Crystalcat,
I get bloody noses for about 5 days or so after my TC treatment. It's getting better now that winter is over and the air isn't so dry. My nose gets so stuffed up and everytime I blow my nose, it bleeds...I hate it but I only have 1 more tx left...woo hoo! -
Do any of you with the nosebleeds take Herceptin also?My nose bleeds all the time and I finished Taxotere in November but started Herceptin right after that.My nose stays dry no matter what I do,it's so aggrvating.
Hugs,
Lisa -
congrats Lynn on having one more treatment. My nose bleeds everytime I blow it also. And I have been off Taxotere for some ti me now.I am on avastin and abraxenene (sp)
-
I don't know if this will help you girls with the bloody noses or not but when my kids were young they would get bloody noses all the time. What their pediatricaian suggested was to use A & D ointment in their nose. It really did work because it kept the nasal passages moist and also has healing properties to heal the tender areas as well. Its just a suggestion that you might try. I am going to be starting TC treatments in two days and was reading this board to see what I am in for. I appreciate all the info I can get. Take care and good luck.

ann425,
I hope all went well for you today. I finished the TC regimen, 4 times, 3 weeks apart, on 03/16/07. It went pretty well for me. I worked thru most all of it. I started tamoxifen on 03/30/07. I'm having some hot flashes and swelling but am doing ok. My hair has grown back almost enough for me to go without a scarf now. Here's wishing you the very best.
Gayle -
Gayle,
I seem to be doing fine at least right now. I am taking all my meds and so I am not really experienceing any problems. Thanks for the info. I am tired but think that may have to do with all the benedryl they gave me before the TC. I know that I will have some sort of hormone therapy after this but am not sure it will be tamoxifen. Let me know how you are doing. Take care and enjoy the summer. -
I am also recieving treatment with Cytoxan and Taxotere and have been doing fine. I only had one treatment so far and have to get another 4. Does it get worse???
Maribel -
Just found this thread. I am starting TC today. 4 rounds 3 weeks apart. There is a research article on this site regarding TC vs. AC. (look in treatment).
I have done some research and checked with 2 other onc docs. TC is a fairly new treatment. One of the docs wasnt even aware of it until I mentioned to him. However, he called back the day after my appoiontment and said they found some good research reports on TC.
Re: Onco DX, it is supposely a pretty accurate test. (95%). I did the test, but came out in the middle. So, chemo is a must!:)
Mizsissy, I took notes from your posts. Find them VERY helpful.
Want to thank the person who started this thread. I was wondering about the same thing - are there anyone else out there who had TC?
Love this website. - Christine -
Spiffy,
I just finished round 4 of Adriamyacin and Cytoxan, my Onc wants me to then do 4 of Taxol. I am stage 1, 2cm, ER/PR negative, Her2 negative and node negative. However, he wants me to do the 8 rounds since my tumor grade was 3. I'm frustrated as I can't find any studies to support the Taxol to actually show a reduction in recurrence. Do you know of any resource? I tried Natl Cancer Inst and they don't know of any either--- -
Did you get them concurrently? Every 3 weeks or dose dense? I'm trying to determine if there are studies to support 4 A/C and 4 Taxol. Getting ready to do the 4 Taxol but since I'm triple negative, node neg and grade 3 tumor, can't find any studies supp lowered recurrence--do you know of any?
-
Anyone with any positive nodes on here get TC?
Thanks,
Joanne -
Hi Joanne:
I have 1 node with 1mm cancer traces. Just started my 1st round TC yesterday. - Christine -
Joanne,
I had 1 node with 0.15 mm cancer. I finished 4 rounds of TC, 3 weeks apart, on 03/16/07.
Gayle -
Gayle:
I just started on 6/14. Feeling a bit dizzy. Not sure if it would be a good idea for me to drive. How did you tolerate the 4 TCs? Are the side effects accumulative?
Thanks, Christine:) -
Christine,
I think I did pretty well with the TC. I had an allergic reaction during the 2nd one, was given Benadryl by IV, and did ok, so the last 2 times they gave me the Benadryl to begin with, and I was fine.
As far as how I felt, though, the first week after was not very good, the second week was better, and by the third week I was beginning to feel a lot better. I had some good nausea meds too, so that was a big help. I was very happy when it was over with, I'm sure that goes without saying.
You said you feel dizzy, I don't remember feeling dizzy.
All in all, I think I did well. I know you will too.
Best wishes,
Gayle -
Thank you Gayle...
I heard the side effects can get worse toward the end. Just wondering if I am going to get weaker as time goes on... - Christine -
I tried to do my first treatment of TC on 6/14 and had an anaphylactic reation. Now I cant do this treatment and have to start 6/21 with AC. I was sick as a dog this weeked and only received 6 drips. PS They did the Benadryl and steriods first.
-
Hi KiddleGirl -
Sorry to hear that. Hope the AC will work out for you.
Best,
Christine -
Anyone have the nail bed damage I keep reading about?
-
JoAnn
Did you have radiation treatments or are you going to have them?
