On Sat dh and I are going to MX for 8 days...guess what will be the FIRST thing I put in my carry-on? YUP...yarn and my trusty crochet hook! LOL The flight's 3 hours...I figure I can get 3 squares done each way! LOL and...I'll have both pool-side as well! Yes...I will be careful...no sun screen or spilled Margaritas or salsa on the squares!
-
Wow so nice to see so many new ladies. You will love getting involved. I really think this is one of the most important things I do and I LOVE it.

Welcome to all the new ladies! Addictive only begins to describe this!
Okay.......Twink.........you went and bought yourself a 'how to crochet' and in one day you made a square?????? I have every how to book for both crochet and knitting and they don't make a hillabeans of sense to me!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank God for the Knifty Knitter................not nearly as fancy as some stitches, but it is all that works for me!!
Liz: You just learned how to crochet???? Come on now...you're kidding, right?
Shelia: You can crochet Angels? You've got my interest up now! Love and collect angels...........may have to commission you to crochet a short mantel scarf for me!!!!!!!!!!
Watson: From one dork to another..............don't fret, you'll get it! I don't do technical either...............I do the Knifty Knitter (straight board) and why they aren't great.........I've literally done hundreds and no one has thrown them back at me yet!! Just enjoy!
Hugs,
Neesie
P.S. Ummmm......good luck with the engineer husband helping.........I've got a Senior Designer over here................talk about technical!!!!
-
Very Nice Dee...........you posted while I was writing! Can't wait to see who is getting this beauty!!
Hugs,
Neesie

you want scary ??? dh and i are both engineers
-
Okay,
Here is a new definition of stupid:
I tried to learn to crochet from a book. It took me a while to realize I was trying to knit! lol I used to knit as a kiddo (potholders, lol) I was trying to cast on to the crochet hook.
So I told myself it would be chemo brain if I was on chemo. OMG!! I am on chemo! lol That as got to be the dumbest thing ever!
Anyhoo, I am going to ask any of my friends if they know anyone who knows how to crochet. I just need the basics and I can take it from there. I decided my husband would just make me crazy. He's one of those super nerdy engineers that over complicates almost every situation. I'm afraid I might ram one of those hooks I bought up his nostrils!
I will definitely try to do this though.
Thanks!

Watson,
Is there a yarn shop in your area? They almost always have beginning knitting and crocheting classes. Good luck.

Watson,
Heh... I had a hard time with the instructions too.. started to think maybe I had dylsexia (late bloomer)... Go to youtube... I found a few basic instructional videos (I don't know what I'll do to progress to the more complicated stitches)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRsGeVk073w&NR=1
Good luck to you.
-
Neesie... (laughing at hillabeans)..ahem... I made TWO squares. I think I'll keep the first one for me though, it's a little primative.
Look at the link I posted... for the visual learners in the newbie group of crocheters (like me).

TWINK>glad to see you crocheting! I would have never thought of YouTube having some instructional videos, thanks for the link. I feel a little guilty as I only have 4 made right now and haven't picked up the hook since the day of his surgery. I made the 4 that day. I'm sure Liz missed seeing my box come to her door this weekend since I usually mail a box full on paydays. DH was surprised I didn't bring it along on the trip to Michigan to do it while in the car.

Bin, I live just 15 miles up the road (321) from Hickory!
Neesie, Yes I crochet snowflakes and angels for the church craft bazaar. I just got 2 new books from Annie's Attic with 9 different angel patterns! Until now I have done small (4 inch) angels but the books have 10 to 18 inch tall angels for tree tops. I also have done some filet crochet doilies, but have not tried mantle scarves.
When I was in high school I crocheted a long (hip length) rainbow rippled sweater that won the blue ribbon at the county fair in the Jr. division. I take spells between crocheting and quilting.

Madison - it's a beauty! Can't wait to "hear" from the recipient.
-
Twink,
Thanks for the YouTube advice.! Her hands were shadowed just in the part where I was confused so I couldn't exactly make it out. So,
I just Yahoo'd Learn How To Crochet and all sorts of things popped up. Crap, now I don't have any excuses for being a dummy.
Thanks,
Watson

I can't tell you guys how happy I am to see so many visiting and joining us on this thread. It honestly brings tears to my eyes.
Watson - you silly girl. Why is it I can see you doing that? LOL I can send you a CD if that will help. Just let me know.
Laura - WOW lucky girl. Have a great trip. Yep, I crocheted last year on the plane. Remember though - no pointed scissors etc.
Madison - gorgeous as always.
Jan - yes I did miss your box but I knew you weren't home. Sorry about your cousin.
Neesie - you crack me up girl. Yes, I learned to crochet when they started this project. So about a year? Madison showed me how to border at Pinkstock and it went from there. We'll work on it with you this year. K?
Sheila - my sis in law crochets names and then frames them! That is cool that you can do the angels.
Twink - I'm so glad you've joined us.
Hi Cherryl, jenni, Bren, Vickie, Boo and everyone else. Don't mean to miss you intentionally.
Off to the post office to mail another afghan.

Ladies,
I have tears in my eyes as I read how many of you are participating in this project. I can not express how much the afghan project means to me BECAUSE we do make a difference in the lives of those we touch with our heartfelt kindness.
I counted last night (again)
72 Afghans have been made
72 afghans
x
42 squares each
EQUALS
THREE THOUSAND TWENTY FOUR SQUARES
(3024)
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME............I THANK YOU WITH MY WHOLE HEART

That's great! Thanks for keeping us all together (huh-huh...get it?)! I love being a part of this...I thank YOU with my whole heart!
-
Wow. I'm so glad to be able to contribute to this wonderful project. Finished my 3rd square last night and I think this one is up-to-par.
Now, I just have to apologize for spelling dyslexia incorrectly. There's something laughable about that.

Hi Ladies
I have known about this wonderful afghan project for ages, but have never visited this thread. I need to sit in a doctor's office for hours on end tomorrow, so I bought myself a "how to crochet" kit today. I'm hoping to get started on some squares.
I'm going to check out the link, I'm hoping there are instructions there, but I saw Vickie say something in a post about using a certain type of yarn? I just bought the yarn the lady at AC Moore said was good for beginners, so if it's not right I can use these as practice squares (I'm not know for my handiwork or craftiness!)
Hoping I can get the hang of it!
-
The yarn we use must be machine washable..........we wash the afghans before mailing them.
-
Unbelievable how many hearts we have touched this year! My blanket sits on my lap as a crochet more squares!
Let's not talk about tears!!!!
This whole project brings tears to my eyes!
I love the love that goes into each and every blanket but wouldn't it be great if we didn't have to make them? Cancer sucks!
-
Wow - That's alot of love!
Very impressive and so thoughtful of so many who contribute.
That's awesome!
-
This will go out tomorrow............
-
What are the prerequisites in qualifying for a hugaghan? I have a friend who beat a potentially fatal melanoma (2 yrs of treatment) only to discover a couple of weeks ago that she has been dx'd with bc.
She is having surgery on March 3rd.
I would love to put her name on the list.
I don't crochet (although would love to learn) but would pay any postage needed.
Can you let me know?
You guys are doing an awesome thing here...you're the best.
xo
