Hi Ladies...wow two more beautiful hugaghans in the mail!!! I am falling behind!
I got beautiful squares from Lori yesterday...thank you!
Deb...send me some of yours...then I can include more girls squares in my next one.
I will have one done this weekend.
No donations to me please!!!! As I have said before...it is MY pleasure to mail them out...AND...we get a special shipping rate at my new job so it isn't so bad.
You are all the best of the best! May this thread go on forever and ever...hugaghans all around the world!
Love and hugs
Vickie

Jan - You are good! Wow...I have a few things to learn from you! Your squares FAB...inspiration is contageous...I am going to kick it up a notch and experiment! Thanks for the tutorial! LOL
-
Thanks Laura...thats why in a way making the rectangles is fun as I am experimenting alot as I go, trying new stitches and patterns and sometimes improvising to get them to turn into rectangles.
-
There are a few ladies on newly diag.and starting chemo that are having a tough time. I will PM you a name and address of someone I think needs some hugs and has visited BC.org. It will probably be on the weekend.
Also, a lady in my support group locally just found out she has mets. Can we send her one too or is it just for bc.org ladies?
-
I vote for #2.
-
Lori, we do send afghans to individuals that don't post on this board......please send me her name and addy and we will add her to the list.
-
It has been suggested that we send an afghan to Robin Williams of Good Morning America.
I do have her address and will have an afghan finished this weekend.
What is everyone's opinion?
If we do send her an afghan, should we also include words of support (as we did for Elizabeth Edward's afghan)?
-
I think that's a good idea Madison. You have a wonderful way with supportive words ... why don't you write the note for all of us and say a little something about how we all met on BCO. You might also reference this thread for her to look at.
BCO has brought us all together, and you, Vickie and Liz have kept us inspired. I think it would be a great thing to let Robin know she has lots of friends here that prayed for her and wish her well.
love you guys,
Bren

My vote is yes to all!
I better get by butt going and start crocheting!
-
I'm in......... what can I do to help you Madison?
-
Sounds great Madison.........and the note of support would be very nice....I'd love to know when you send it....I watch GMA for a bit every morning and would like to hear her comments..(which I'm pretty sure she will make)....!
Vickie: I'm back on 'trying' the afghan for my Grandson.....I swamped Dee and Liz with squares, so the next batch will come to you!
Hugs,
Neesie
-
I am for it all, too.
If you send to someone that doesn't visit the boards, do you explain how we make the afghans and why they are selected to sit in the middle of the circle? I think it would be terrific to have an explanation enclosed.
Can't wait til Tuesday when the post office opens...squares on the way!!
-
Lori,
I have a prepared explanation I send with every afghan..........telling individuals who we are, what we do, why we make these afghans and where they can find us.
There is only one afghan I have mailed that we have not received an acknowledgment of receipt. My tracking info shows it was delivered, but we never heard from the individual....
I love getting squares in the mail.........
Thanks so much, Madison
-
I'll be mailing this afghan tomorrow. Vickie - you'll be getting a box also. I love getting squares in the mail. My mailman now knows about this project and said he tells many about it. Thanks again for everyone's help!
-
Madison..tag you're it!
The box o' squares is headed your way!!
You will see...kinda in a blue (color) rut!
Names to follow....
Lori
-
Hey Liz...your latest creation is lovely!
-
This is such a wonderful project. I bought a book yesterday ... "teach yourself to crochet' and I just finished my first square. It's nowhere near as pretty as the ones made by you veterans but I'll keep plugging away until I perfect the process or my fingers fall off, whichever comes first. Hopefully, I'll be asking for a place to mail the squares to in a few weeks.
-
Loving it Liz!! Very pretty as they all are!
Hugs,
Neesie

nice to meet you twink !
-
twink! Wow...that's great. Awesome that you'll be joining us. I am truly addicted! Keep it simple at first and then "mature" into different patterns. I cannot think of a better way to get a sense of helping others. I am so proud to be a part of this group!
-
Hi Twink.......it is addictive
Finished an afghan......I'll take pics and post later
-
Thanks for the welcoming (and encouraging) words. I just finished my second square. Addictive.... so true, I did nothing but crochet all day. Can't wait to see my squares in one of the afghans.

Hi Twink! Nice to meet you and yes - this is very addictive. I didn't know how to crochet when I began either. Remember though, each square that is put into the afghans is made with love. I had to smile at the doing nothing but crocheting. Sounds like me. Can't wait to see your squares in an afghan either.
Madison kindly (thanks!) reminded me that today is Presidents Day and no mail. So I will be mailing things tomorrow. LOL What would I do without all you guys to keep me on track.
Hugs
Liz

Guess I'm immature..I haven't matured to more than two different stitches! lol
-
Hello fine ladies,
I actually went out and bought a learn how to crochet book and supplies. I'm such a dork that I can't follow the directions! I hate technical looking stuff. Pretty sure I'm ADD when it comes to being patient about this stuff.
I will ask my husband (the engineer) to figure it out when he gets home so I can make my son his own afghan. He as hogged the one you lovely ladies sent to me. And then I'm sure I'll be so fantastic at crocheting that you will all be begging me for squares! Ha!
Thanks!
Watson

I would like to start making squares, I have the size requirements but do we put the black on them or do you put the black on when you are assembling them?
Watson, My left handed mother showed me (right handed) when I was about 10 yrs old - talk about confusing. I also got a how to crochet book when I was trying to teach a young lady at church and that book can be confusing. Try checking out your local craft stores and see if they have a night of crochet/knitting available. I know that the local AC Moore store has at least one night a month that they meet at the store for questions regarding how to crochet. Also check out any independent yarn stores for classes.
I normally use the fine thread and use the small steel hooks to crochet snowflakes and angels. I also use the fun fur yarn and crochet chemo caps for the wig bank of Caldwell County to give to those who have lost their hair to chemo.

Hey ... glad to have you new gals! Makes it so much fun to have new ladies. It's so exciting when Vickie, Liz or Madison posts the pictures and you see your squares ... then the anticpation of waiting to see who gets the afghan.
I'm with you Lori, I haven't figured out how to read a pattern yet either. Naniam called the other night and wanted me to help her over the phone with instructions from a book! That was hilarious!!
Watson .. what makes you think your engineering husband can read a crochet pattern!!
It takes more than a freakin' PE degree. I've crocheted my SO lots of blankets, but nooo ... he had to use MY huggie afghan the other day. But since he was in such pain, I thought it would be okay just that once. But that's all .. no more.
Just wanted to welcome the new gals!!
love,
Bren
Sheila -did you know you probably live next door to Brenda (Naniam).
-
deleted cause it posted twice.
-
WOW...wonderful Liz. I have one ready to ship tomorrow...I see we have lots of new girls...welcome one and all! The more the merrier!
love and hugs
Vickie
