I have a sweater organizer at one end with a shoe organizer beside it.  Then the clothes that hang an then another sweater organizer for my nightwear.  It is organized and beautiful.  Just dont look down, cause under all that is boxes, clothes, and everything stuffed in piles, in bags, in knapsacks....

All my dress/blouse hangers are padded satin, except for ones to hold slippy straps. Yeah, they take up room! And of course I have my Choos and Manolos neatly lined up!!

I have quite a few pairs of shoes, but they are not choos or manolos.  I think one pair would cost the same as ALL the ones I have gotten at DSW....   I have been in either crocs or very soft slip ons with flat heels.   My toe nails are beginnng to grow again, but I foresee no sandals this summer.   OR I will make a fashion statement with socks and sandals .. !!!!

I was at Lord & Taylor other day and saw young woman trying on some really cute shoes. At the cashier's desk, I asked if she'd gotten those shoes; they'd looked great on her. She said, "Really? I got these, but left those. I'm not sure I have anything to go with them."

Aghast, I said, "SHOE people don't let that bother them; you get something to go with the shoes!"

She bought the shoes.

Hi, girls.  I've been taking a  work-induced board break...and came back to see this is now a closet thread.  My closet is a nightmare...no surprise there.  I can't even get to the window there's so much stuff on the floor.  I also have a shoe fetish.  Unfortunately, since I've gained weight, most of my shoes no longer fit.  When I get ready in the morning, I longingly look at the racks of shoes with awesome buttons and bows and then sadly stick my fat feet into either the plain black or plain brown pumps.  I'm missing my favorite flat taupe shoes that still fit and have some pretty, tasteful jewels across the top.  Can't imagine what pile they're hiding under.  They probably won't be found until they're out of style.

Patrice I have the same problem none of my shoes fit anymore I thought it was water retention but it probably is from the treatment weight gain. Now I have a great excuse to go shopping so I can cram more into my nightmare closet.I should take a photo but I think it would scare the crap out of you ladies,especially you neat freaks.

Aw, the shoes will come back in style---if you can still walk in them! I am now rueing some tossing I did (I feel virtuous if I give away 2 or 3 pair a season!) after looking at new magazines.

I am off to DSW~~~just as soon as I get on and off the treadmill!

I am a perfect size 8 in Canada.  So I get all those pretty, dainty shoes at bargain prices.  I have never paid more than $14 for shoes, $30 for boots.  My clothes and shoes are neat and tidy.  It is all the junk under the clothing.  And I have decided that I am leaving that junk there.  The girls will have to have something to go through after I am gone.  Hope they fight over things.  Betcha Shayna grabs the fedora and Allison goes for the afghan.... the one from the chatters.

I have decided that I am not cleaning or organizing any more.  Someone else will box the crap up and deal with it.  It may be my hubby but I bet he makes the girls do it.

I have already decided and have letters to go with my angel collection.

My wife is a volunteer given to me from Hospice Toronto.  She can help me get things organized for my passing.  And she can help me get through Tuesdays with a friend.  Other times I have Johanna to go to movies or shop with.  It is important for me to have fun now.  So I am not to worry that the kitchen floor is tragicly filthy.  The stove and fridge should be dragged out and the floor should be spotless.  Same with the tidy-bowl closet.  The tub should be all one colour not shaded with a water line.  I cant clean it so nobody can?  I dont buy that.  I am thinking of hiring a couple of students to clean the apt to sparkling or Molly Maid, at least I'd be hitting back in the wallet.

I have just decided to de-stress the importance of neatness.  Cleanliness is not next to Godliness. 

That's my tirade and Im sticking to it.

It is so important to lower standards on the state of the house!  Save your energy for important things like healing, family, sitting in the sun, etc.!!

Hi gsg, Wanted you to know that you are not alone.  My house is also a wreck.  And I spend a good deal of time looking for things, keys, credit cards, my glasses, the remote.  I know what you mean, in every sense.  I come to life as soon as I leave my house.  In fact, I'd sell it if the real estate market were not so bad just so I could start from scratch. 

 I believe that my house is a reflection of my state of mind - flailing, floundering, waiting for the ax to fall.  I don't dare bring anyone in here as it is apalling.  Every ounce of energy I have goes to my job and a long walk in the fresh air.  I sadly spend a good deal of time watching T.V.  It allows my mind to rest.  I feel overwhelmed and frightened being alone with all of this.  It has never been like this. 

 And me?  50 lbs up also.  None of my very fine cloths fit anymore.  I work at home so that allows me to walk around in my ratty robe all day if I want.  I just hope it doesn't stay this way. 

 I have managed some improvement which is sporadic and usually done impulsively.  But even that is better than the stagnation that has become my life other than work.  I just don't want you to think you are alone and I know we are not lazy.  This is something that I believe will pass with time.  Best to you, Wendy

I'm wondering if all this is less about health and more about a cancer-fuelled WAKE UP!! Maybe our illness and all the associated hardship has opened our eyes to the REALLY important aspects of living. These do not include a kitchen floor so clean we can eat off it, a closet so tidy it could be photographed etc. Hell, all the clothes I wear (the ones I can fit into..) are worn, washed and folded into laundry baskets, and there they remain. It's MY house...I! live in it...explain why a washing basket is less appropriate a storage facility than a closet?? I have a cleaner who comes for 2.5 hrs per week and I pay him AUD $40. (About US$30). That's my investment in guarding against life-threatening stuff..But untidiness??? It's relative.

Daffodil.....for a minute I thought you were here taking a picture of MY shoe closet......But then I remembered mine don"t have all those shelves. I have about that many shoes but mine are all in a huge pile almost eye level. I must have shelves put in....it so tidy!

GSG...It"s good to see you again. Was getting a little worried. So getting back to the original subject....Why can't we get it together? What is happening to us? We should be happy as a pig in you know what, now that we have this stuff behind us. Delayed reaction?? Lately it seems I have to keep picking myself up all the time. Where does this come from?

So now that we are on track maybe we can chew this over a little.

Artsee, I personally have never felt so weary as I feel trying to get over the "scorched-earth" treatment protocol for breast cancer, or as I also call it, the "slash/burn/poison" protocol.   I had to go back to work, so I can eat & keep my insurance, but I have no energy for anything else.

Heck with the house.  At least I can pay the mortgage.

I am assuming most of  you have gotten your "act" together a bit better than I have. Today I dug out the upright vacuum and thought I had it clicked in position.  As I reached to unplug the cord, it fell on my arm - a quarter size bruise.   Call me Super Klutz...!!!   

My new mantra:  A clean apartment is highly over rated.

Too Far Gone to get caught up with all of you. My laundry is my pet peeve. My poor Mom comes to babysit for me and she has 6 loads of laundry to fold. I can never get ahead of it. The dear person that she is she said that she could wash the laundry for me also, so that I would not have to do it. What a sweet offer. Mom's are always willing to do things for their kids. Thank God that she is close to me. My laundry would be piled HIGH without her.

Hi ladies.  I've been procrastinating all week to get my checkbook balanced.  I went into a tailspin two weeks ago when I got my statement.  I set off a chain reaction and accumulated 7 overdraft charges.  I called the bank to plead for mercy but I was back in the red again and they said I had to have some money in my account before they'd even consider waiving any fees. 

I think this must be ptsd.  I know I need to deal with this, but I haven't.  Now it's friday, and it's also my 50th birthday.  You'd think someone of my age would be able to at least pay her utility bills on time and have something more celebratory to do than figure out if I can get my water bill paid before the disconnect notice goes into effect.  

Could someone please cheer me up?  My mom's having a small dinner party for me tonight, and I don't want to crumple into a sobbing heap.

Althea - did you ever, in your wildest dreams think you'd be in such financial problems at this point in your life??  That's not my effort to make you laugh, but, hot damn, I'm so tired of being broke!

Hopefully, by this time, you're enjoying your milestone birthday, and you can put those bills on ice for a few hours! 

 Yesterday, my therapist kindly inquired about my budgetary prowess, as I'm forever forgetting bills, not checking my balance, etc.  I cut him off at the pass, and told him I budget the way I diet!!  A new one every month!!  And, I haven't found one I can stick to.

Where are those sugar daddies when you really need them???  I know, playing with the 20-somethings!

Our internet got turned off yesterday because "guess who?" forgot to pay the phone bill.  I called today to pay the bill by phone but because I didn't know the "secret password," they wouldn't let me pay the bill.  The bill is in my husband's name.  They wouldn't even tell me how much the bill was.  Like some stranger is going to call in and pay my bill?!? So, when dh came home from work he had to call the phone company.  There was no "secret password" on the account because he had not set it up yet.  He had to set it up today, so there was no way I could know a word that didn't yet exist.  He also had to have an answer to a secret question.  If any of you want to pay my phone bill - our secret number is the last 4 # of our phone # and our dog's name is Harley.

Jane - doesn't the stupidity of these situations make you want to whack your head against the wall???  If I pay your phone bill, will you pay my mortgage, which I thought I'd paid on line, on time, but long story short, just because it says "print", does not mean the transaction has actually gone through!  Even if you think you forgot to pay it and "pay" it again!!  And,  then get a late notice, right in the middle of trying to refinance!

Whacking my head actually felt good!!
