the little boat "el viento," which means "the wind," they took down the amazon from peru to brazil. when they got to brazil, it was too dangerous. They were told they had a 60-percent chance of being shot, so they sold it and got on a tour boat to finish their trip down the amazon. they slept in hammocks on the top deck of the tour boat...in the rain.

It is, Sheri. I'm so envious of them! They spent 2 months in South America, which began their journey. They are now in South Africa and doing a lot of surfing. They plan on climbing Kilimanjaro, while in Africa....after 2 months in Africa, they head to India and will climb to the third base camp of Everest. He amazes me and also scares the pants off me.

I understand how you feel. My son just left this week to work for either 3 months or 3 years in Ecuador. I guess it's a good thing to see the world. I just wish I could go with him!

You have a big heart, Girl, you gave him wings and he took off flying.
I don't envy you your thoughts at night, worry I bet.
But I bet you gave him a great spirit of confidence in himself and others. Bless him and you.

thanks so much for these words! I am SO worried about him, but at the same time I wouldn't have it any other way.

Prophet Mohammed said, “Don’t tell me how old you are or how educated you are. Tell me how much you’ve traveled… then I’ll tell you how much you know.”

My dream was for him to travel the world to expand his mind and he's doing it. Sometimes I wish he wasn't such an adrenaline junky, however. I haven't heard from him since Sunday and he was going to be lowered in a shark cage among the great whites, somewhere in shark alley off the coast of South Africa. Gulp.

here's my last PM with him:

him: Hey mom,I am going diving with the great whites and theres nothin you can do.

me: *burns surfboard and sells car*

    *pockets cash*

I love the quote too! I truly believe that travel is the way to learn: about ourselves and about our world.

Getting myself out of scrapes, and finding my way when lost, has taught me more than all the things I did right in places I knew, would have ever taught me.

These are the swans and their cygnets from the lake close by my house. They are on their way to knock at my door begging bread. This was last November-ish and the cygnets are all white now and have takenup residence on the little canal that also runs close by.

And here they are tucking into our bread. I am looking out of the window as it was in the middle of chemo and DH wanted me to stay away because of immunity issues. I hope I have re-sized this one successfully. Here goes.

LOVE the swans....i was chased by some last year while walking near our beach...but i didn't realize they were swans. i thought they were giant ducks and wondered how funny the scene must have been for an onlooker to see a bald lady being chased down by a bunch of irate, quacking giant ducks. i was scared and laughing while running for my life.

    Gsg,
That trip your son is making,
is a once in a life time thing, and not for everyone...
And then ... like we say in here "there's nothing like
to be in the faculty of the university of life",
no other way to learn some kind of things then to live them.
Not quite sure if I explain myself the right way,
this is very bad today, but guess you got the idea ... I think.

    Valerie,
Funny visitors you have around your house.

    Great pictures, thanks for sharing.

Took this pics yesterday while crossing the river.
It was a beautiful day and very, very, very relaxing,
    got so distracted ...
that almost forgot why I had to cross the river.

    Valerie;
I'm from Porto and live at Porto.
Second biggest town in the country
    up north of Portugal.
    For those from US
to locate it better it's easy,
    if you see New York,
    you turn facing the Ocean
    and is just straight ahead.
Ever heard of things like... OPorto Wine?
    Same town.
Obviously I could remember any other reference,
    but ...
Wine is what comes to mind at the moment.

Oh yes, LOT of guys from UK around here
at this time of the year until around winter comes,
beach, the weather and so on, most come for the quiet.
Your friend choose well the season to come here, May,
good weather at this time, not too hot,
and not much people around on vacations and such,
but it depends on where she's been of course.
Val, keep on dreaming coz one never knows...
if one of this days you pass here,
feel free to give me a call.
I do not have much pics of my town,
well I would if I would remember where I have them ...
    Most are on paper anyway.
But through this samples here, guess
you can have a very good idea of how it is.
    Porto:

    Hope you enjoy it.

    Big Hugs to you too.

    Geez, where have I been!

All the pictures are beautiful! Some just have that magic touch.

Patrice, may I say YOUR SON'S A HUNK! LOL I know all about the worrying. Finally heard that my DD in Africa emailed my other DD last week. At least I know they're safe.

Since I can't take pictures worth a darn I stole this from my DD's website. She's somewhere in Africa. LOL Would have to go back and read where, but am too lazy. I don't know what those circles are under her eys. She looks so thin and she certainly wasn't big before she left.

I think those circles are eyeglasses. Or where her sunglasses sat and the rest of her face is sunburned or tan except the circle where the sunglasses usually sit.
