how about drinking?

Mornin ladies
JC oh all the chit with all kinds of ins. can drive u thru the walls. I have Medicare and a private ins. and I'll still get a bill for like 15.00 from a dr. I don't get it and on top of it everyone has to wait for every test or procedure to get OK'd. Even whe a Dr., says it's ASAP they move the way they want. And I don't understand anything about it and as most of u know over the yrs. I have worked for New York Life, State farm, American Family and Allstate. None of it made sense then and now it's worse. Good Luck with all of that, it's all so stressful too. But u finishe all of ur baking WOW u really have it going for u.
Minus ur making all these drinks sound better too, I like the way u think.
BTW everyone knows I can't type really can't even tho I took it in school and worked lots of yrs. typing, just can't do it. But Lori could always read my crazy mistakes and that's how "poopin in" came to our thread, I always meant poppin but my fingers did what it wanted and the big "D" is usually diarrhea which all havd had one time or another.
Jay I'm glad ur feeling better but just take care cu it seems like it left way to soon. So don't get so cocky about it.<I always LOL at that word> Just stay well u have a lot of celebrating to do.
Sandy it feels great to loose weight like that I finally bought some new clothes and thought I'll never fit into these pants but I did so in my head the almost 100 lbs I lost doesn't click in my head except when I lost my pants at the Drs. office, then I knew I needed a few new pieces., I don't go out much so I didn't need a lot just a few things to mix and match and a couple of long dresses. My ankles show my lymphodema so those I always cover up and my one arm. Sometimes I feel like a balloon blow up and wish I could just put a pin and pop it all away. BTW it doesn't work.
Oh Kim I'm always jelly of u and Sadie, cuz when I had my pets they were always all over me and when I'd get back from a hospital thing it seemed like they knew something was wrong and treated me gingerly and knew what not to do so they wouldn't hurt me. Amazing how they could sense those things.
And now this whole year is almost over...Holy Chit how did this happen???2020 when I was a kid we were supposed to be flying thru the air for transportation and lots of robots talking to us. well that were the movies then. Pretty much the movies now too.
Is everyone done with all their shopping. I have just a few left but one I forgot was my granddaughter Jodie adopted her when she was 16 tho she been with us since she was 7 she was always so shy and never talked much, still doesn't but her and Joey always spent a lot of time together growing up so they're close which I like. And she does call me what Joey calls me so it's easier for her, I think. But she is really so so shy I do all the talking. She';s in college now can't believe it at all. She still looks like she's 14 and tiny too. She's really very sweet just quiet, but not with Joe at least.
Anyway a few more present ad I'm done, then the wrapping starts, that's where Joe comes in. I've been doing this with him since he was 2 so it's down pat with him and he's better than I am good thing now.
Well hope everyone has a good day and feeling well.

I have a few gifts left to buy for friends (plus drag Bob to Best Buy to pick out the new & more powerful laptop he needs to be able to tap into Advocate's echo-reading system). My friends have specific interests and love to read (but not via e-readers) so we usually head to Barnes & Noble to browse actual books for them (or to Binny's for their fave booze). Everything else has arrived via UPS and needs wrapping; and for the first time in almost a decade I'm diving into my accumulation of holiday cards to send out. (Need to buy some Xmas Forever stamps, as my pre-printed Stamps.com ones are 50 and 1 cents, respectively; as well as a Hanukkah card for my cousin in NYC's n. suburbs who is observant and might not appreciate a "Season's Greetings," much less Christmas, card.
Still no booze last night--DOTD, besides coffees, was a Miralax-strawberry Bubly cocktail. (TMI). Enjoying a low-carb whole/ unsweetened almond milk cappuccino before popping my retainer back in.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF Day! The staff Christmas party yesterday was a lot of fun. My Secret Santa got me a set of 4 wine glasses etched with a butterfly, so very pretty, and wine making book that I'm already into the 4th chapter of. Love reading about the history of wine as well as the different ways to make it. I really need to get another batch going, it's been too long since the last batch. Sadie loved hearing all about it while getting belly rubs last night. Mr. Winter has arrived, temps in the single digits, wind chill at or below the donut. Brrr.Need to break out a heavier coat.
Cammy Cat--you worked for the insurance companies and even you don't understand how they work? That is a very sad and scary comment on the state of affairs. It is amazing how our pets know when something is going on and how to act. Sadie can be very rambunctious at times, but when I'm down or hurting from something she is very gentle. We may not all have flying cars now, but lots of homes have those gizmos that talk to them and can be talked to and used to run the house. It's a little scary sometimes. This year does seem to have flown by.
Goldie--sorry you missed out on the ribs, it's no fun to not get something your tongue and stomach are set on! I didn't realize DH had a bulging disc, that may be one of the few back conditions that does get and stay better with surgery. Men do seem to exaggerate some things, don't they? Inviting someone to stay over the holiday without talking to you, not cool.
Chi--Ah, Christmas cards! I used to send out a lot of them, haven't so much the last few years. Maybe I'll start that up again when I retire.

Cami, your typing is fine. I still can't get over you losing 100lbs. Where are you going for Xmas, anywhere?
Sandy, my DH likes to read an actual book.
NM, I remember your wine making days! Nice gift with wine glasses. Picture? As for talking things in the house, like Alexa, no way. It's creepy enough how things pop up, usually FB, of things you looked at online. Or I have had things pop up or get some junk mail on some DH and were talking about!!!! Coindedense? I don't think so! Good to hear the budging disc is not as big of a risk.
Town day today. I think I'll have just burgers the day Tammy gets here and then steak and shrimp on Xmas day. And DH wants a Baconater at Arby's. I can't eat there, unless they have their turkey sandwhich with cranberries and such or the fish, both are specials tho that they only run at certain times. Otherwise, everything else there just gives me an upset tummy, same with Taco Bell, I can't eat there either.

Mornin' ladies,.
Kim that was a neat gift especially for you and I too would rather read a book than all this new stuff. BTW we should call it Master Winter it really controls our lives. TGIF but way to close for Christmas, my organization skills this year are not good.
Oh Lori it's good what Kim said about ur DH back. This operation sounds like it's one a lot which makes it a lot easier to think about. And a while ago I didn't use spell check <didn't know how> now that I use it all I see are squibly pink lines and I have to go back, takes forever LOL
OK Sandy great for the weight lose but some type of wine better start showing up at night. And I did all of my shopping on line this yr, but Leslie will go out and get me some gift cards and then comes the wrapping. Thank God I have Joey to help me. Thru the yr. I do find things on a good sale and I already think about Christmas, but now I forget who I was thinking about. This is frustrating.
Well I took a good fall yesterday in the bathroom, my head just misse the toilet so I was lucky. but I fell right on my knees and Les finally heard me but we had to wait til Joey came home. So he got behind me, under my arms and just lifted me, but had to hold me a while cuz my body shakes. So today my knees are not good. But Les makes me LOL really she's yelling should we call an ambulance, or take u to the ER or urgent care. She does this all the time with me it's so funny all I ever say is get me back to my room. She gets so nervous.
Well have a great day

I was able to get my infusion today and get all the test appointments lined up. Who knew that a bone scan was a two part test? I report to our local hospital (about 12 min from my house) for an injection. Then I can do whatever for three hours. I should return to the hospital at Noon to have the actual test. Good thing gas is fairly cheap and I have little to do that day! Not sure how long the actual test takes. All this because Medicare does not want to pay for a PET scan. A few days later, after drinking my barium shake, I will go to my all-in-one infusion center (about 25 min from my home) at 11:00 to have the CT scan. There is about an hour in between that and an appointment at 1:00 with my MO. Guess we will find a place for lunch. And appointments for an entire cycle of chemo in January.
I have not actually spoken to my MO since September. I have met with the PA, but somehow that is not quite the same. He did wave at me today as I was getting the info about the appointments. I am sure the Holidays are messing up my December appointment with him. Since it has been exactly one year since I started treatment, you would think he would want to see me and chat for a bit. Guess that can wait until January 2020. And after the tests.
Still not sure who from my small family can come when over the holidays. Would love to make that last grocery store run before it gets too crazy and picked over. I cannot imagine how any of you plan for large gatherings when you are not sure how many will be coming. I used to host my DH’s family, but the only one left is his sister. She usually goes to one of her children and they do not invite us. I do like to plan and have most things done before the event. That way any mistakes can still be fixed! LOL!! Oh well, working on lowering my stress so, No Worries!
Hope everyone is looking forward to their own special holiday. Safe travels to anyone out and about. Take care!

JCS, I had one of those whole-body nuclear bone scans in 2004. I had both some strange sudden hearing disturbance (hearing pitches differently in each ear, watery sound quality, instruments & vocals sounding like in different keys) and severe "snapping" hip pain that only swinging my leg could relieve...and then even that didn't help. My ENT warned me that I could be having bone mets from a brain tumor or brain mets from bone cancer so I had a brain MRI. My orthopedist looked at my hip X-ray and exclaimed "Holy S#*t!" in front of a gaggle of med students: there was a chunk of my R iliac crest (hipbone) that had broken off and was floating free. I was only 53, so he thought that was too young for osteoporosis (especially since I hadn't fallen) and ordered a bone scan. Silly me: I thought he meant bone density scan. I got the shot in the morning, was sent home for lunch and came back 3 hrs later (fortunately, the hospital garage gave me in & out privileges). I was not prepared for having to lie stock-still for over an hour. (I went through two albums--Joni Mitchell & Warren Zevon--and the vocal score of the entire Haydn Lord Nelson Mass in my head to pass the time). The weekend was excruciating: I had a festival gig to do and all I could think of when not onstage was "this will probably be my last time at this festival" and I began looking at NYT obits and seeing that even those who'd died young were older than me. Mon. morning I got the call that my MRI showed only a "patulous" (inappropriately open) Eustachian tube; and that afternoon that the bone scan lit up faintly, indicating inflammation only over the site on my hip from which bone had been harvested for a tibial fracture repair eight years earlier. Both doctors said the proximiate cause of both problems was too-rapid weight loss (I'd tried strict keto and lost 40 lbs. in less than 3 mos.): the Eustachian tubes are normally held closed (except for swallowing & sniffing) by pressure from fat & muscle; and my body fat had held my hip together all those years--the surgeon had over-harvested bone (better than under-harvesting) for the repair and it had fractured. I was given the choice of going in surgically to extract the wayward chunk or cement it back into place, or wait a year and see if my body had resorbed it. I chose the latter, and all is well.
Cami, you poor kid--another fall? At least you landed on your knees. You know what they say: rest, compression, elevation, and...ICE, ICE, BABY!
Kim, you make your own wine? Do tell! I have a whole bunch of Concord vines in my backyard (in fact, trained them to form a little arbor) but I hate Concords--whether raw, or as sweet wine. (No patience to make jelly--and I don't do sugar any more). Every fall I resolve to get some Riesling budwood to graft on the rootstock (it's a varietal that does very well over cold winters) and every spring I forget to buy it. From what do you make your wine?
Cami, you will be glad to hear that I indulged last night in a mini-flute of Veuve du Vernay crémant (French gov't won't let the vintner call it "Champagne" because it's from just outside that AOC). I intend do do the same--or maybe a small snifter of cognac or single-malt Islay scotch tomorrow at a friend's party. (Maybe glögg when Gordy comes over first for exchanging presents--he's flying to Austin Sunday to spend Christmas at a B&B in "hill country" with Leslie, who's been visiting her folks in Houston).
-
Oh, and my "baby" is home! (No, not Gordy--he's coming over today to wrap gifts). My 12-yr-old La Cora was delivered today, spanking clean, with new overpressure valve, water level sensor, springs and gaskets. (Not a cheap repair, but a couple of Benjamins every 3 years to keep her humming beats dropping a grand and a half for a new machine). Even with stale beans I was able to pull a fantastic shot--forgot how good real espresso tastes (with a truly syrupy body) compared to Nespresso or from that manual ROK contraption (which did give my hands, arms & shoulders one heckuva workout). Just made a half-caff almond-low-carb whole milk cappuccino. Mmmmmmm.....

Jazzy, Congratulations on the mortgage pay off!!!I bet it feels so free knowing that it is yours and no more payments.Time for a party.
ChiSandy- Congratulations on your weight loss,I am mixed between admiring you and jealous that I haven't got the self-control to stay on diet like you did.I never heard the song "It Sucks Being Sick at Christmas".(it is the truth though)
NM – your gift from work is so cool!I did not know you were a wine maker, what a great hobby.
OH Goldie – I would be a little upset if my husband invited people for the Christmas without telling me.I hope it all works out for the best and you all have a lovely time.
Cami –I bet it does scare Les when you fall.I was kinda scared reading about it.I hope you did not have to wait long for Joey to come home!
Hoping you all have a joyful holiday!
-
Cami- are you okay friend? Worried over here in the desert for you.....
-
Misty, the reason you've never heard "It Sucks Being Sick at Christmas" is because *I* wrote and recorded it! It's on the Andina & Rich holiday EP "Merry Humbug," available on AppleMusic and Amazon streaming, Amazon download, and Amazon physical CD. I wrote it when I was too sick to sing it (the only song I ever wrote with no way of knowing how it'd sound); this past Tues. night on WDCB's Holiday Hoot was the first time I actually performed it while sick. (You can stream the archived show at www.wdcb.org until 12/31). But if you want the version with only the intentional sound effects you'll have to get the record (streamed, download, or CD).
-
Cami OMG, I am so very sorry you fell. How did you manage that? And how long did you have to wait for Joey? I think Les should have called 911, they could have gotten you up and checked you out. Don't be doing that anymore!
JCS, that is a nuclear bone scan, I hate those, just because I hate being injected with that nuclear medicine. I think it has to come to a time when the kids make these big dinner preps! I'm done, no family near by at all.
Sandy, yay for getting your "baby" back! LOL'ing at Misty never hearing of the song, cuz you wrote it!!
Misty, it's only one person coming and her little toy poodle Bently, and I love her and I don't mind her coming at all. She is very sweet and is in charge of our trust/will if something were to happen to both of us. I was just mad that he did it without consulting me first. My biggest concern is I just started a new med, that could cause some "D" and fatigue. I shall manage!
Nothing exciting here, just cleaning today and tomorrow.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday! Bright and sunny here, if a bit chilly. 10 degrees, and that's a bit of warm up. Very little breeze, so there's no wind chill to worry about, which is a big plus. Looks to be a very pretty, white Christmas here this year. I like it like this, enough snow to be pretty, not enough to be a problem. Sadie is less unhappy now that she has her trails and paths through the snow so she has places where she can squat without getting her hoohaw frozen! She likes to come in and stick her cold paws on my legs to warm them up. Only fair since I use her to help warm up the bed at night, right?
Goldie--I'm with you, those talking things are getting a bit scary, and so are some of the "security" systems out there. Way too easy to hack, from what I can see. Not that I've got anything to hide, but people listening in on my conversations with Sadie would think I'm totally nuts and may send the men in white coats after me! Just too creepy. And it is creepy the way you can look at something on the computer and it starts showing up on FB and Amazon. I'm still trying to find all the connections and turn them off! Probably never will find them all, that's the way they're designed, I'm thinking.
Cammy Cat--I think you are right, Master Winter it should be! Have you considered using gift bags instead of wrapping presents? One of my Grandmothers did that when the arthritis in her hands got to the point that wrapping was hard and painful for her. She had just as much fun picking out a specific bag for each gift/recipient as she used to get wrapping them. She had everyone who came to visit her in the fall bring a gift bag or few to add to her collection. I'm gladyou didn't hit your head when you fell!Your knees must be pretty sore now. Did you know that you could call an ambulance for a "Lift Assist"? They'd come, help get you up, give you a check over but not take you to the ER. They can't take you to the ER if you don't want to go, they just have you sign that you are deciding not to go and that's it. If you call 911 and ask for a Lift Assist they usually don't come with lights and siren on. I've called 911 for Lift Assists many times when I was seeing people in their homes and found them fallen when wasn't sure I could get them up safely by myself. The worst thing that ever happened when I did that was when we had to wait until the ambulance crew was free from attending a car accident. I got some pillows and blankets and made the patient a bit of a nest and then the patient and I sat on the floor and played cards for an hour while we waited.Seriously, though, having the ambulance crew give you a quick once over will reassure you and give Leslie peace of mind.
Librarian--Praying the bone scan and CT go well and show good results. It's crazy how insurance will shoot itself in the foot just to maintain control. How they get away with making those decisions still baffles me. It must be hard to plan when you don't know how many people are coming and exactly when. Don't blame you for wanting to get things done ahead of time, just makes life easier entirely to do that!
Chi--Good heavens what a trial to go through, all for some weight loss! And here I thought weight loss was the answer to all problems medical, social, psychological, economical, etc! Actually, I keep hearing about these things that happen when people lose a lot of weight and wonder why they aren't listed as Side Effects, like they would be if someone was talking about weight gain or a new medication!I have made wine off and on for several years, but not recently. Going to start up again. It's fun to experiment with and not very expensive now that I have the equipment. I generally make "Country Wine" from various fruits, fruit juices, herb infused water, spice infused water, or other combinations, technically "Melomel"as I like to use honey for sweetening and feeding the yeast rather than sugar when the natural sugars aren't enough for good fermentation. My very favorite so far is the batch I made some years ago from mint that was growing in my garden. Unfortunately, I cut down so much of the mint that it never really came back as a harvestable patch. One of my garden goals is to get another big patch established for ongoing harvesting, including enough for a gallon jug of wine a year. My biggest failure was a pineapple wine. After fermentation and a couple of racking offs and adjustments it was still so horrible that I knew aging wouldn't help and tossed it all out. The spot where I dumped it didn't grow any grass for 2 years!
Misty--winemaking IS fun! I did start out using kits, but branched out on my own after learning the ropes. Great fun to play around with!
DOTD:Old Fashioned Egg Nog
Ingredients
1 c. heavy cream
2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
2 cinnamon sticks, broken
1/4 tsp. freshly grated nutmeg, plus more for serving
4 c. whole milk, divided
8 large eggs, separated
3/4 c. granulated sugar
Pinch of kosher salt
3/4 c. to 1 cup dark rum, bourbon, or cognac
Directions
- Combine heavy cream, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and 2 cups milk in a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat until tiny bubbles begin to appear around the edge of the pot (do not let it boil), 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let steep 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, beat egg yolks with an electric mixer on medium speed until combined. Gradually beat in sugar and salt. Increase speed to high and beat until thick and very pale in color, 2 to 3 minutes.
- Strain spiced cream mixture, discarding solids; return liquid to pot. Slowly beat 1 cup warm cream mixture into yolk mixture on low speed. Return to pot with cream mixture. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a rubber spatula, until mixture coats the back of the spatula, 9 to 10 minutes.
- Place the pot over a large bowl filled with ice water and let cool, stirring occasionally, until chilled, 20 to 30 minutes. Stir in rum, bourbon, or cognac and remaining 2 cups milk.
- Just before serving, beat egg whites with an electric mixer until soft peaks form, 1 to 2 minutes; fold into eggnog. Serve topped with grated nutmeg.

Kim, no surprise that the pineapple wine was a nonstarter: pineapple has a natural enzyme--bromelain, which is used in "natural" meat tenderizer--that messes with fermentation. Also, if fresh (the cooking required for canning breaks down the bromelain) it will keep your gelatin molds or salads from settting. Have you ever ditched the fruit and just tried making mead? My husband's patient gifted us with a half-gallon of honey from his own beehives (and I have a quart from Costco). As you well know, honey never spoils. Mint mead sounds fantastic.
Last night I didn't drink anything but water and a decaf half-almond-milk latte. Just had another, caffeinated this time. Tonight either bubbly, the last of our Beauj. Nouveau, cognac or single-malt Scotch. (An ounce of the latter two counts equally with a 6-oz. glass of dry wine for both my diet and ER= b.c. allowance).
-
Wow to all of you - so much going on and so many different ways to 'check' our cancers. I have never had a PET, BUT I have had more than a dozen nuclear bone scans
and ct contrast scans in the last 2 years...so I did/do know that nuclear is a 2 part test. I am fortunate that I can get my contrast ct and nuclear bone scan on the same day, sharing the IV needle, then getting my results shortly after the tests. 100 lbs of weight loss??! and Chi you too have lost an amazing amount - so happy for you!!!
cami - arghhh please do not fall again! so worrisome for everyone!
NM- I can see Sadie walking through those paths! and yes she is right in warming up on you ust as you do with her
misty and NM - my DH makes our wine too and it is usually a great success
I am sending everyone reading this a very merry Christmas and a very, very Healing, Healthy and Happy New Year xoxoxoxo Cheers! Janice

Hi ladies- I made it through a LOOOONG week. Finally got through telling everyone by yesterday I am outta there end of the month. Six more work days. Looking forward to the holidays and time for restoration and visits with friends. Despite it being a hard year in many ways, I am grateful to have had consistent contract work, improved eye sight and a home pay off in 2019. And very thankful for friends who see me through the hard time and celebrate the good times too. Thanks for being part of that community, dear ones!
Went to a lovely yoga practice last night around the winter solstice (my fav thing to do) and it was very restorative and reflective. Today is the shortest daylight of the year as you been home today doing some more biscotti baking, and house cleaning. I was going to go visit a friend today who is home recovering from a heart procedure but after texting her, no response today. A bit worrisome, and hope there has not been a complication. In the end, I ended up staying home and think I needed it. Tomorrow a friend is coming for brunch and conversation.
Chi- I love unsweetened almond milk. I also have been enjoying some special non-alcoholic sparkling ciders this holiday season. A bit more carby, but when I want something festive and don't want to drink. The cranberry and pear are my favs, but I was thinking I could try to do something with the poinsettia cocktail with sparkling cider and some cranberry juice. My friend coming tomorrow does not drink so I might experiment at brunch!
And your song you wrote, how perfect and fairly a frequent occurrence for many to be sick during the holidays.NM- I loved the comment about the hoohaa and the snow. I never want a cold hoohaa myself, lol.
JCS- praying for good outcomes on your scans. Did you hear yet from the family about the holidays? I am going to a friend's house after I come back from my over-nighter at the hot springs. I just have to bring some wine, and have that all figured out.
Misty- what are you doing for the holidays? Are you home or going away?
Janky- what are you up to friend? Is all your Xmas shopping done?
Cami- are you doing okay friend? I loved NM's idea about the ambulance and the lift. My great aunt I used to do house cleaning for used to get stuck in the tub a lot taking a bath. One time I was there cleaning her house and she needed help with the bath and couldn't get her out. So she said "call the fire dept" and I was horrified. I was only 16 and the thought of some fire dude getting my auntie out of the tub naked really was not anything I could wrap my head around. She said "oh honey, they do this for me all the time." The fire dept was literally next door to her home in my home town. Of course, now a hot fireman coming to the house has a whole different appeal. Anyways, I hope you are doing okay and not injured or sore friend.
Goldie- how is the weather out in AZ? Not much precip here since all those storms in late November. I think it may rain/snow for Xmas though? I would not mind sitting in the hot springs on Xmas Eve in the snow, another fav thing to do......
Okay, time to get to some things and wishing you all good funday sunday. Three mo days to Xmas....
-
Went over to my friend's party--even though I brought cheeses 🧀 & keto chips & cookies, he had plenty of cheese, spreads & paté I could eat. Gordy came over to wrap gifts and exchange with us--he'll be headed to Austin first thing Monday.
My DOTD was Mumm's Napa Winemaker Series Blanc de Noirs 2014.
-
Happy Funday Sunday. Up and getting ready for my brunch.
Saw this on social media today and thought it is handy for gift guides, not only for this time of the year but for any type of gift. Less stuff and more experiences and consumables.
-
Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Sadie and I are looking forward to a lazy day today, not enough ambition to start much of anything going on in this house. Kind of a gray day today, too. Maybe things will perk up after the second cup of coffee, we'll see. Sadie says "Hi" to everyone.
Chi--I made one batch of mead to learn the process but I much prefer to play around with the fruit and herbs and spices and such. I like that honey never spoils and it's so easy to dissolve that I can be way more accurate with the level of sweetness I get in my wines than with sugar. Not to mention the varieties available make honey great fun to play with!
Janky--what kind of wine does your DH make?
Jazzy--I like the sparkling ciders, too. So many variations compared to a few years ago. I can imagine what a 16 year old thought of calling firemen to help get Auntie out of the tub! You must have been mortified!

Rain is moving in this morning. I have to go to the grocery store with all the crowds to get the food for Christmas meals. I have asked my DH to drive and drop me off. We live about five minutes away, so this is no problem for him. Parking there this time of year is crazy! I think I have figured out a menu that will work no matter how few people show up.
Cami - Take it easy with the falling. The friend I go to the mountains with fell the other day and tore up her knee. She is now scheduled for surgery on Monday. My mother would never push her ‘Fallen’ button because she thought they would break her front door.
We went out last night to celebrate our anniversary. I had a fancy rum drink. It was so good I had to have another! Then some Moët champagne to toast another year. Hopefully 2020 will be a great year for everyone.
This is 44 years ago when we both had hair!!!!
-
JCS- that is a cute picture and also so very 70s too. Happy anniversary!
-
JCS, mazel tov on your anniversary!
-
Happy anniversary JCS and hubs! 🎉
Mine is Tuesday, 19 years for us. We’re taking our new travel trailer to a state park for its 1st outing tomorrow after my maintenance chemo (H&P), I plan to post pics 😀
Reading here mostly, not much to report lately.
Hello to everyone and happy Festivus, lol

Happy Sunday! I went to a friends and we just caught up on stuff -she has a son going through a messy divorce so is needing support which I am able to give, having been through my daughters divorce (they are the same age).
NM - DH usually works with kits though I suggest Rhubarb or other equally yummy from scratch wines. Italian Amarone and Merlot are the favs right now - how about you? I think Sadie needs a belly rub
Jazzy - I am really well, seeing as I got 2 years stable with stage 4, gotta love that! And yes indeed, shopping is done AND wrapped!! DH wraps and I make the name tags, so we are ready (my birthday is December 24 and I will NOT do anything!!, so usually ready by 23rd)! How about you? I am looking forward to hearing about your 2020 contracts, I am sure you will be busy and happy!
JCS - Congratulations on your anniversary, love the photo, as jazzy says, it is very 70's!
goldie - those nuclear bone scans and ct contrast scans are horrible and do make me nervous. At my MO appt on Wednesday, he has suggested that we can go to 4 months between scans instead of 3, so I am good with that!
misty - nice to hear from you!
cami - I hope that you are recovering well from your fall?!
Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, healing holiday - stay well, get well!! Cheers!

Good Festivus to the restivus. Anyone planning to air grievances or perform feats of strength? (I air grievances all the time, so I guess I'm just gonna have to haul bags of cat litter down to the basement...).

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monday Monkey Day! Christmas week has arrived, should be an interesting week at work. So much going on, so many more visitors than usual, just busy, busy, busy!
Jazzy--love the list of Clutter-Free gifts!
Librarian--glad you've got a workable menu put together. I hope it has lots of things you like so you can freeze leftovers for later use if necessary! Happy Anniversary!
Illi--Happy Anniversary to you, too!
Janky--kits are fun to make up, with the benefit of knowing they will come out well! I've got some organic berries and persimmons coming in my next Misfits box, I may make a jug of wine out of those, if they don't end up in pancakes for breakfast first!
Chi--be careful on the stairs with the kitty litter!
Mulled Wine
INGREDIENTS
4 cups of the best apple cider you can find
1 750 ml bottle of red wine
¼ cup light brown sugar
6 cinnamon sticks
1 orange, zested and juiced
1 orange, peeled, half for mulling and half for garnish
1 tbsp whole cloves
10 star anise, plus more for garnish
DIRECTIONS
1. Combine the cider, wine, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, zest, juice, cloves, and star anise in a saucepan.
2. Bring to a gentle simmer over low heat for 30 mins and up to 1 hour. Do not let the mixture boil as this can cause spices to turn bitter.
3. Pour into mugs, add an orange peel and star anise to each, and serve.

NM, re Alexa and such....had to laugh at people listening to you talking to Sadie. But I think everyone talks to their animals. Did you and Sadie make it a lazy day yesterday...I sure did!
Sandy, a half a gallon on honey, wow nice. And honey is expensive.
Janky, I get my scans, same ones, on the same day. I've gone as much as 2 years between scans. If I feel ok, then I refuse them. If I had to do them regularly, I might consider every 6 months. I bought a bottle of Rhubarb wine when DH and I did a west coast vacay. Red Ass Rhubarb wine. I even saved the bottle.
Jazzy, I hope your friend that had the heart procedure is ok. I hope you get your snow whilst sitting in a hot spring. No moisture here as of yet. Maybe tomorrow and/or Wednesday.
JCS, happy anniversay! Love the picture and like Jazzy said, so 70's.
Happy Annivarsy to you as well Baby Girl.
Got twice as much to do today, since I didn't do anything yesterday. Not sure if my guest will be able to get here or not. The rim she has to drive across is expected to get up to 9" of snow.

Lori, I'm sure that rhubarb wine is delish, but I'm not a big fan of sweet wines other than port, madeira, Sauternes or other late-harvest (like California or Aussie Sauternes-type whites and German TBA rieslings), especially now that my diet limits me to dry wine, hard spirits, or ultra-low-carb beers. We have a bottle of sweet spiced Lynfred (IL) "Christmas Red" we got as a gift a couple years ago, which I was going to heat and then spike with vodka Sat. night when Gordy came over to exchange gifts, but he wasn't into it. Gonna try to scare up a bottle of "Hans' Andersonville Gløgg" (a North Side Chicago tradition) if I can find it--I think you can buy it only in a couple of taverns. It used to be made by Hans himself, with akavit as the booze, but the current stuff uses Everclear (grain neutral spirits) instead.
