I don't think this snow is the right type for snowmen. It's too fluffy to pack. Before we moved here, I found it hard to believe that Eskimos have hundreds of words for "snow." Now I can think of a dozen different types of snow off the top of my head.

    Laura - LOL!
Debbie - ****HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!***** Have a great "date!"

MaryAnne - your tooth fairy story reminded me of Kiersten's Santa story. She's always been terrified of Santa and the thought of him coming thru the chimney into the house so to ease her anxiety we told her from a very early age that Santa wasn't real but we enjoy pretending, blah, blah, blah, WELL, this year was the first time she ever wanted to sit on Santa's lap (she's 10, special needs too, as you know) So when she was done she told her brothers in the car, "There is such thing as Santa, but not his elves." Lol...
Here's an old, un-updated link regarding Kiersten:
    http://www.kidsepilepsy.com/onekid.asp?id=467
She was pretty much nonverbal until we started "Sensory Integration" occupational therapy. Did a lot of sign language with her too. She had "ataxia" - never heard of "apraxia" before.
Cindy - brrrr!!! love the pic!
Laura and Gail - I must agree, I truly think you are long lost twins!!
Victoria - you amaze me - I could look through a microscope too - just would be clueless!

Well, it's snowing - I've cancelled ballet, LOL. My dh is driving in from Cincinnati & I hope one of his snow-savvy coworkers is driving!
    Have a great day ladies!!!

RoseMarie..you really ARE an angel. Your kids are so lucky that you are their mom. You had quite a time with Kiersten. Wow...

I have worked in special ed so I know how challenging school aged and older kids are. I've worked with some babies, too, but never on a reg. basis and I cannot imagine it all. I know that when it happens to a family, the inner strength just comes out...kind of like when diagnosed with bc. But it's so different when it's your child.

I'm sure that Mary-Anne has had similar experiences. My college friend who was also in special ed. had a sister with Down Syndrome. Her sister only recenly died..she was in her forties. The doctors had said she would live to be maybe 10. She was severely handicapped and died in the end of heart failure..a part of the Downs...anyway..I lived through the difficulties and challenges they had with her, but there was a lot of joy..A LOT!

Cindy..I see you figured it out! You look..well...cold!

Debbie..hope your BIG chocolate cake was yummy and you had a nice time out on the town with dh. Let us know that you are okay and returned home safely.

    RoseMarie -
Kiersten had quite a rough start! It's great that she's doing so well - love and dedication is more powerful than any drug! When my niece was little she always thought Santa had cotton candy on his face!

Debbie, I am so glad you got my card on time. I hope you are enjoying your night out. I am going to have a glass of wine in a few minutes and I will send a toast your way.

Maryanne, Cute bathing suit. Nice photo of you and your husband. Sorry you have to be separated for so long. What kind of work does he do that takes him away for that length of time? My tumor was also very fast growing . I had a clear mammogram in January and by July I found the lump that had grown to almost 3 cm. I have to say I found it by accident. Very aggressive. Mine also ached and throbbed which made them think I had an infection. According to them cancer doesn't usually hurt. Yeah right......I also was told my tumor had poorly differentiated cell's. Not sure what that means but it doesn't sound like a good thing to me.

Victoria, You had a mass for 4 yrs? I guess you are lucky you got to view your slides but I wouldn't even know what to look for if that was me. Although, I do have the mammogram and sonogram films of my tumor. I just got up the nerve to look at them......boy the tumor looks big to me.....I like your cheetah attire. I see you did the mirror trick. Or should we call it the Ravdeb trick since she started it....lol

Laura, ......You couldn't possibly have a big butt. I just wish I was as thin as you.....I can't seem to get motivated to work out either. I have joined gym's, etc. I am good for a while but when my membership run's out I never renew. Besides I never seem to have the time. I know, poor excuse. I do own a treadmill and weight machine so I should take the time to at least use them.

Cindy, you are one of us in the frozen tundra. Cute picture.

Rosemarie, I read about Kiersten. What a smart idea to make a video tape to show the doctor's. I had no idea what she had been through, how scary that must have been for you....Poor Kiersten. I felt so bad for all of you when I read that. And her picture is so cute. I couldn't help crying when I started reading the link but was happy when I got to the end knowing that she is doing so well and hasn't had any more seizure's. She is truly a special gift and you are a special family.

Mmmmmm Lovely meal! we went to Frankie and bennys ( http://www.frankieandbennys.com/ ) which is supposed to be an Italian New York Diner - probably nothing like but we pretended for thenight - and my dessert was so huge i could just see over the top of it. When i got home i had lost a shoe - not sure where that happened!!
RoseMarie - reading that brought tears to my eyes, it made me appreciate th erelative easy run i have had with mine. Yes we have had our share of specialists for them both, what with Marks cowboy legs and allergies and Catherines allergies, birthmark and missing ligaments, but nothing like what you have dealt with. I salute you - as a friend and a Mum!!

Linda - give that grandson a hug from me - we are all thinking of him XXXXXXX
Got to go to work - we are promised snow today - Hurray - I am going SLEDGING!!

See?! How is the Sam Hill do you lose a shoe?! Must have been one heck of a birthday party!! Hope it was fantastic and I wish you many more, Debbie.

They called my number and I have to go to jury duty at 10am. I am packing my bag with novels and plan to treat myself to the scandal rags (Star, In Touch, Life & Style)to keep me entertained while waiting for whatever.

We got a dusting of snow this morning. Not what I'm looking for. I'm waiting for the blizzard, six inches or better!! I don't think this is the year though.

Today is the big day....all my followup tests including mamo. I really had the gitters yesterday but am somewhat calm this morning despite a call late yesterday for them to move all my appts up as the machines at the hospital are being serviced at 2:00 p.m.

I have to be at the hospital for my mamo at 11:00 am, then drink 5 eight ounces glasses of water until 12:00 a.m. (hope I dont have to cross my legs to hold it in) and then my pelvic, transvaginal ultrasound and finally density bone scan.

I wonder how long I will have to wait for my results? The waiting is the worst, it brings back too many bad memories of when I was diagnosed.

I started physio on my neck last night the therapist said I certainly have alot of my longer muscles in my neck which are very stiff. So for now I have to go twice a week for treatment for at least 4-6 weeks.

I had to drive my husband's truck to physio last night as my Rav is in the shop for minor service today. I was so nervous and driving like a turtle through town praying that no one would hit it.

It continues to be cold here but it is an amazingly sunny day.

Laura - you look like the mystery women and pretty hip with that cheetah scarf!

Kelly - I hope you are feeling better.

    Cindy - keep warm!

Maryanne - I understand the not wanting to let your guard down, I;m somewhat the same way at times especially today with all my tests being done. I told my hubby how worried I was about the followup today as my body has betrayed me once before and he says it will all be okay, its what I like to hear. I just cant believe that until I get my results and then can breathe for another year.... Maybe it will get better with time. Dont get me wrong I dont stress out everyday its just been the last week or so leading up to today.

Linda - I'm praying that Issac's surgery goes well, sweet little one. Let us know what happens.

Rosemarie - You are a wonderful, patient mom and your daughter is a cutie. I read the link that you posted, Kristen had such a rough start to life and it must have been so stressful in the early days. But she made it through due to her the love from her parents and is a true miracle.

Victoria - I love your cheetah pants. You wont see a picture of me in cheetah, wouldnt be a pretty sight! Your oncologist sounds like the wonderful, compasionate man that mine is. He just makes everything right in the uncertainty that comes with this disease.

Debbie444 - glad to hear you had a wonderful birthday and hope that you wolfed down that desert sister! How did you loose your shoe? Should we make up name tags for you when you come to Chicago that says "if lost return to"...hee hee:) You sound like a lot of fun and really look forward to meeting you in August.

Brenda - nice to hear from you again.

TracyNy - crap, you got called for Jury Duty. How long do you have to go, until you get picked? We have some snow that you can have. Where we live it is a higher elevation that a few of the bigger cities so more snow. But the roads are clear for traveling which is a plus.

Deb - you are so thoughtful.

Hello to all my others sisters, have a great day. Will report back my findings of my tests, if I know anything today which is highly doubtful the way that the system works here.

Best of Luck to Isaac today with his surgery and to Michele with all your test's. I have a feeling it will be a good day for everyone.

The sun is actually out today. We haven't seen that in a while and it isn't snowing. At least not yet.

Boy Deb, that must have been some celebration..How can you lose a shoe and not know it? That could only happen to you.......haaaaaa.
Sledding? Not sure if that is safe for you. Also watch what you wish for.......you could end up like us with 3 ft. of snow and ice.

Tracy, You are lucky you escaped the snow but I see you still have the cold. Gee, If they pick you for jury duty I hope you get an interesting case. Last year, my son's number was called but when he got there the case was dismissed because they settled so he didn't have to serve.

Off and running again, will check back later.......

Hoping all is well with Isaac, Linda.

TracyNY..hope you have an easy jury duty! At least you can have some fun reading time. Sorry you aren't getting snow. Snow is predicted HERE! Up north in the mountains. There is skiing there, too and when the snow melts, it drains into the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee) and supplies us with water. So, we WANT snow up there. And it's good for the skiing business!

Debbie...PLEASE EXPLAIN TO US HOW YOU LOST YOUR SHOE????? You must have had one heck of a time!

Michele... I am thinking only good thoughts for you today. Lots of tests all at once! I guess that's good..get them all over with. That would make me crazy though. It's not done like that here...no way..each test is in a different location. OMG..when I was doing all the tests before chemo/surgery..whatever..can't remember...I had to push my way in for the abdominal ultrasound because I had a bone scan all the way up north only an hour after that! I felt sooooooooooooooo pressured that I yelled at the poor secy! My dh came to the rescue on that one!!!!

At any rate... good luck. I'm sure you are NED all the way....!

I just came home from a funeral..father of a congregant just dropped dead yesterday! He was preparing lunch in the kitchen and fell over and died. I decided that I want to die like that. I don't want to die from cancer and suffer so I'm putting in my preferences now!

At any rate...my dh and I are grateful that we live in a small little village with a pleasant cemetary among the trees as opposed to this ghastly one we were at today in Haifa. This is disgusting...the graves are very deep so that they can bury two in one grave. As my husband said..his wife will be on top of him in the end! I, along with a friend of mine who was there (and my dh) were totally disgusted and we are grateful we live in smaller towns where there is room to bury people. Just gave me the heebie geebies!

    Okay..enough on THAT! YUCK!

    As I do laundry...(sounds like a song!)

Victoria... I agree with you...burying the dead as quickly as possible is our custom. Somebody needs to watch the body until the funeral..gruesome, huh? there are people who do this for a living. After the funeral we start a week of "sitting" or mourning. Your house is open and people stop by without calling and without ringing the bell...just walk in to pay condolences..for a week. Gives you the support you need to move on. We take this all very slowly and after we "rise" from "sitting" we go back to work but we don't party for a year. We believe it takes time to move on and this is how we do it...

As for land in our tiny country.... Today, buying land is extremely expensive as there isn't much land to buy to build on. There is still agricultural land (and it better stay that way cuz we are farmers!)but this is slowly being made into residential land. There are houses being built in what WAS the middle of farm land but is now getting built up. Our house was also built on farm land changed to residential land.

The cities are getting more and more crowded. Most Israelis live in apartment buildings in order to house all the people. We don't only multiply within families but we continually bring in and encourage immigration. We just had a big group from North America (though statistics show that a huge percentage move back to N. America cuz it's not so comfy here!) immigrate and I think another group is arriving this summer. We have had huge immigration from Ethiopia and Russia, in particular. Years back the immigration was from Morroco and Yemen.

We are farmers and farmers have land and private homes. All of the towns around us were once totally farming towns. Today they aren't. There are very few farmers left because it's hard to make a living on farming alone. But there is space here so people have built beautiful, huge homes here..these are people who wanted "country life" and moved here from Tel Aviv. They still work in Tel Aviv as we are only 5 minutes from the train.

    And yes...there is rental.

Tradition is for parents to provide a home for their kids when they move out and get married. Some parents buy their kids an apartment, some give them land (we were given land to build on)and others get everything..depending on the financial situation.

Time to check on my laundry!

Now Debbie, how do you LOSE a shoe?? YOU are so funny!! For me, I would have lost an earring (lost one in a pool), a purse (nabbed at a party), my cell phone (fell under the shoe rack at Target and didn't realize it), my pants (left in the hotel room) ..... but not the shoes I was wearing out to dinner!!!

I am home sick again today ..... actually it's nice to see Teryn off to school and pick her up like a normal Mommy!

David seems to be coming down with this darn flu, too. We'll see. He can't leave work ... he's one of the owner's of the company and the superintendent on the job and they are running underground utilities for 50 buildings. Talk about having to keep your brain in gear!

Cathy... I was thinking about you today. I'm so glad you posted!

I wanted to say that I don't want to take that test for recurrence NOW. If that had been available before I had done the chemo..then YES..I would have loved to have taken it. Chemo did quite a number on me. I was deathly ill from it after my 3rd AC and though I healed and was able to do the Taxol, my body is still suffering from it. If I found out today that there was no need for chemo..that I have nil chance of recurrence..I would be VERY angry that I had done the chemo. At this point, I feel that I had to have chemo and so the stuff my body has had to cope with, I can deal with. I mean..I'm alive and that was the goal. So, I'd rather not know.....

It isn't 100% accurate from what I've read, but if it can guide proper treatment for early stages of bc, then I hope those who haven't started chemo will benefit from this. From what I have read you need to be under 55, node neg and stage 1 or 2. You can be er pos or neg..doesn't matter.

Thank you all for kind wishes for Isaac - your sincerity and kindness bring me to tears. I am not usually so weepy, but today I am crying a lot. I keep thinking I don't want to get sick again so I can see him grow and learn to speak. Surgery went well, thank God, started at 9 over at 11.30. The surgeon was pleased, but the definitive measure of success is in a month from now when the implant is "turned on". First it has to heal inside.

I just spoke to Michelle for a minute, Isaac is very out of it she said, seems to be very uncomfortable. He is in a pediatric room, they moved him out of recovery an hour ago.

I went to my ob-gyn in Dec. and he did routine blood work - when the results came back he said to go to my family doctor because the cholesterol levels were bad. I went on Monday and the fam. doctor said what happened is that my "good cholesterol" dropped to half of what it was, so now the "ratio" puts me in the category where statins are strongly recommended. The shocker is that this was caused by tamoxifen - it is a side effect. He prescribed lipitor.

Michelle, good luck with your tests.

Thank you again everyone for your good wishes and thoughts for Isaac.

    Love to all, Linda

Victoria, yes, my hair is coarser now but the hairdresser said it would return to normal within 2 years. I actually think that the back is getting back to normal and softer now that it has some length.
