Hi to all!
So good to hear from so many! And welcome to the newcomers!
Di: I grew up in Flint and now live about 30 miles from there.......
Nancy: Yup, I'm walking this year.......year number 5! My niece just emailed me about the walk and wondered if I was signing all up or if they could do it.I think I'll just send them the info and let them sign theirselves up and then let you know who is who!
Winggirl: Hey thanks for the picture........looks like most of us spent the afternoon at the bar!!
Let's do lunch!!!!!!!!!! The weekend of April 26th is out for me but Saturdays are pretty much free the rest of the time. Let's throw out some numbers and see what we get!
April 19 or April 20
May 3
May 10
Will any of these dates work for you all? Lot's of new restaurants in Brighton.......And if we go there, we get to play on the 'turn about' thingy!
The restaurant we went to in Novi last time was really good also!
Hugs to all,
Denise
-
Hi Di53. Welcome and stick around! Michigan has a great group of women.
Chris - Glad you joined! Thanks for the instructions since they will keep getting buried. I think we have 15 members so far. I have two to sign up for them and 4 more friends that say they will be signing up.
Denise - May 3rd works for me I think! Brighton is convenient for me also.
Was that our excuse - "we do look like we spent the afternoon at the bar!" Don't let that stop you from brining your camera again Winggirl!
Today is Susielou's surgery. Good luck!

Welcome Di53 -How have you been feeling? Hope you can make it to one of our get togethers.
May 3 - DD graduates from CMU. If that date works for everyone else - go for it. I will see you at the walk. Not sure about the "turn about thingy" you really want to challenge my driving skills.
Susie - Thinking of you how did your surgery go?
Nancy - DH and I signed up for the walk. I had my packet shipped to my home. With the soaring gas prices it was worth paying for the shipping since I am so far away. We will pick up WingMan's packet the day of the walk. Is there anything you need help with for the walk?
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the walk.
Hugs

Wow, I was checking the conversations and seen the one for MI women. That is so neat. I'm from Jackson and I just started my chemo; I have my second treatment next week. I see a few of you are from the Flint area. Anyone from around Jackson??? Mary
-
Nice to see that people live close to here... will try to get to a GTg if i can afford it at that time
with chemo every two weeks... and refills needed then most of my money goes for the co-pays and dr appts..
-
Susie - Congrats on the NED report! Glad surgery went well. Time for a celebration!
Mary - I live about 30 minutes south of Jackson, in Hudson. I shop in Jackson often. Are you doing your treatments in Jackson?
DI - Maybe some of us could meet for coffee/tea sometime.
Happy Friday to all.
WingGirl
-
Winggirl - that would be fun
I saw my oncol today.... he said no more Adriamycin.. that its done its job and i'm on to taxol... once a week for 12 weeks
I think i'll move into the chemo lab :P it will be easier than getting people to drive me in every week, twice (once for taxol, once for neulasta)
-
Susie: WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!We love NED around here.........and nobody is jealous that HE has so many people in Love with him!! Glad all went well with the "new Girls" being put in place.................Now we can have show and tell at our next get together!!!!
Okay.........I started this lunch date thing and now I find that I can't do the 3 or 4 of May................three nieces having First Communion..........one on Sat. and the twins on Sunday.
Can anyone do Sunday, April 27th or Saturday May 10th? Or is that to close to the race?
Decide and let me know..........ohhhhhhhhh I gotta check and see when Faith is coming to Flint..............!
Hugs,
Denise

Wingirl, I know where Hudson is, can't say I've ever been there. Yes, I have my treatments at Foote Hospital. They had a bad reputation before, but things have really changed. Both surgeries went really well with a great staff and the chemo treatments are very pleasant there. Beautiful room with lots of windows, big screen tv, extremely comfy chairs, flavored coffee, snacks and a wonderful group of nurses. Where do you have you treatments at?? Mary

Hi There Sisters!
I have a Sister here who had her expander put in. I just sent her a pin that says "Pardon my appearance while I am under reconstruction" I think she will love it!!!
I'm doing good. Got results back from all of those tests and everything looks B9. I'm ignoring the breast pain unless it gets worse. Will have repeat head CT in a few months but onc expects all is fine. I finally got my hair cut and lots of curls on the floor. Now I am in control. I actually think I like the new look. Still have curls.
Welcome to our newcomers. We are here for you! Let me know when all of you plan to get together. I'd really like to come and Brighton would be great. My daughter lives very near there.
Faith, let me know when you will be in Flint. I will be there a day in May; I'll have to check my calendar. Maybe a few of us can get together if it is at the same time.
I helped design our billboard for the Race here in Kalamazoo and it just went up. The CEO of the cancer center is really impressed with it. I also helped with our banner. I think I have an annual volunteer job now. Daffodils are up and aren't they beautiful!
Love and prayers to all of you, Linda

hello, MI survivors, I'm up burning the midnight oil, 3 weeks post TC chemo and starting to feel good again. Anyone on this thread have recommendation for a good PS, I am looking into either the diep or expander/implant in the Fall. I live in the Plymouth/Canton area. Tomorrow looks to be a nice weather day, finally- enjoy all
-
Welcome Patricia! I don't know of a PS in the area but someone will be able to guide you............I'm thinking Susielou is from your area and I know she just had surgery for ReCon.
Linda: I just checked dates that Faith will be in Flint and have already forgot! I know it's the first week of May and it's during the week.......That would be great if some could meet up! Of course I don't know how much free time she will have while she is here.......................gotta tell you, just received some of her work...........a book, CD and DVD...........she is one talented lady!
Haven't seen or read from to many of you lately..............are we going to try for a lunch in/near Brighton soon................or wait until the t-shirts come in?? You can tell cabin fever has set in.........................I'm ready and waiting for a chance to escape with Friends for a nice lunch!!!
Okay.............later gators!

Patricia, my ps is Daniel Sherbert at West Maple Plastic Surgery in West Bloomfield. He's really great. I've been so pleased with the work he's done so far, and he's just a joy to work with. Before I even met him, I was told he is the gold standard for breast work in this area. Now that I've been working with him, I have to say I think that's true. When I had to go to UM for a 2nd opinion last year, the surgeons there were just fascinated with the work he did when he put in the expander. They were even taking notes and saying they'd have to try his method! I don't have his phone # right here, but you can do an internet search on West maple Plastic Surgery and get the info.
Good luck!!
Linda -
Thanks so much Linda- I will make a consultation with him he is in my network

Hi to all!
Hey Nancy...........did you volunteer to be in charge of us again this year or did we just 'assume'????
I have 7 registered now.........do you need the names?
How are we doing on Survivors?
Denise
-
HI to my Michiganders....... yes, I am planning to come to the Flint area for a couple of days to work with the various county wide area early childhood agencies: Head Start, Special needs etc etc. The first day, Tues May 6th I'll be trotting about the county giving family concerts and there's one scheduled in the evening that I'm hoping nEEsie will bring her G.D. to see me LIVE!! LOL. The second day Wed May 7th is my all-day staff development day that I will deliver to all of the various professionals.
Since I will be VERY eager to get back here to the DD & TWINS (no they are still percolating, and no -- none of us can believe that.... she's now 37 weeks along, at a minimum. Go figure.) I wonder if there's a possibility of meeting somewhere as I drive north on Monday May 5th.
My knowledge of your mitten is pretty limited. Can any body meet for a late lunch on a Monday? Where would be a logical spot driving between Columbus and Flint?
I would LOVE to see ya.... specially since I can't join the Detroit walk.
Guess what? My other DD and her BF are considering doing the 3 day in DC..... as his mom is also a survivor. What are those odds? It made me cry to think that they're investigating the specifics involved. Proud mama.
I'll watch here for somebody capable of planning, to tell me what to do.
-
Patricia - So sorry I have taken so long to write you.....Please try Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at St Joes in Ann Arbor for another. The work they did for me and the care they took is remarkable!
-
Just a quickie..............Faith, just sent you a pm before I came here. I'll have to figure out what's between Columbus and Flint...............Do you come north on 23? If so, you'll be passing right by me..........If not and if others can meet..........we'll find a place!
I really hope to Bring GD to your Concert on the 6th...............let me know where it is and what time it is..............I work that day so DD might have to "tag" along as she will have to bring GD to me!!
Hugs to all of you!
Neesie
-
Yes. I come up 23 north.... anybody else able to meet us?
Susieloutoo, how about you??? (please sing that phrase)
-
I live 3 or so miles from 23 - I will meet you on the road and follow you anywhere!!!
MWAH!
-
Faith - what time is a late lunch? Yes, count me in if it's late enough and South enough on 23 since it's a work day. I'm always up for meeting you guys and look forward to it.
Sorry no time to answer each but I did catch up on reading and hope to get more time to talk later.
Yep, I started up the team again this year but won't be anywhere near as imaginitive as kats was with the head-boppers. Are you guys wearing your's from last year? Well, I get the Team roster and stuff and we have 26 members already! I do not recognize most of the names so I assumed they are friends and families. We only have 6 survivors! That's a switch from past years. I'm hoping Irene and others are just taking a break from the boards and I don't have to get on the hook and call them. How much do you want to bet I hear from her soon!? Some members are doing fundraising. Please let me know if you would like me to send thank you notes or if you will.
I know of several others who are still planning on joining (2 survivor friends) so, this will be another fantastic year for Wings of Hope!
Later,
xxxooo

Ok guys. I have been awol, you're right! But honestly, it's been a difficult time for me. My oldest daughter, 21, is seriously ill. It is sad when I had a better chance at recovery from my breast cancer than she has right now. We have been taking up residence at UofM hospital most of this year. It's been very scary.
It was nice to see so many familiar names still on the MI thread. How wonderful that you all have stayed around to support one another; makes me feel rather bad for not doing the same. I still will not be able to post often, but will try to keep in touch.
The boards look so different! Geez, it took me a while to find Get Togethers! They have really updated things since 2004!
Talk with you later, really
Judy B.
-
It takes me about 3 hours to make it to MI's border.... so you natives figure out what would make a logical, possible gathering spot and time.....
of course I could have dinner with the northern crowd and lunch with the southern crowd!! hahaha
Monday, May 5th!! Touring road show: eating, hugging & laughter
