MI Survivors

Lorie,
We're staying in Dana Point for the month. My son lives in Newport Beach, which is about a half hour away. It's been glorious here in the condo across the street from the ocean.
I'll hate to return to snow and will really miss seeing my son every weekend. It'd almost be easier returning to MI if we were having an awful time. But it's been a break from the caregiving for my mom with dementia. I need to get back to caring for her and my dad. It's back to reality on Saturday.

Gerri:
It's so good to hear that you are having such a wonderful time - you certainly deserve it!!! Maybe, just maybe, we can make sure there is no more snow after Friday (you return on Saturday, right)!! Now wouldn't that be nice - however, I can't guarantee that b/c as I type this, I am looking out my window at about 3-4 inches of snow and it's still coming down. Oh well, Spring just has to be near, right?? Take care and hope to see you soon.
Hugs,
Pat

Hey Girls,
Our friend and former Michigander.....Deb from Alaska needs us right now. She just found out that she has Stage 4 Mets.............I know some have had the great pleasure of meeting her in person and seeing her in action! Love that girl!
Hoping all are doing well in this never ending winter!
Hugs,
Neesie

Hi Everyone,
Deb from Alaska I have not had the pleasure of meeting you in person. I have read some of your post here and you sound like a fun loving spirited person. May the warrior in you battle this next fight. Your MI friends are here for you.
Hugs

Thank you for telling us Denise. I just sent Fumi a note for her address and sent Deb a quick note telling her I'm thinking of her. I don't even know what to say! It is so wrong and heartbreaking.

Hi All,
Geri, I got alittle teary eyed about your post. It takes alot of physical/mental energy in caring for a loved one. I hope that your trip was really delightful for you-you obviously deserved it:-) Newport Beach is lovely and I am familiar with Dana Point. Sorry you had to come back to gulp *snow*...ugh!
Denise, I actually knew about Deb as I follow her blog. I was hoping that this was some anomaly..but alas that is not the case. *sigh*...
I'm so sick and tired of this blasted disease...
Stay warm everyone,
Lorie
-
Deb,
We are all here for you. We'll keep the prayers going.
I had great news from my one year mammo. When I saw my onc and told her I was still having pain (since chemo) in my nonC breast and under the arm. She is having an US done and a bone scan. Then perhaps a breast MRI. To be sure. I'm trying to stay positive, but I find that I dwell on it during the night.
Sounds like we have a little warm weather coming our way tomorrow. Yeah! It was nice and sunny here today.
I called Anna Marie's house and her daughter said that her CT last Sunday was OK and she was having her knee surgery in Troy. She'll be in a nursing home there for 2 weeks and then return home. I'm hoping she will find a way to check in with us to let us know how she is doing. I don't have a contact for her there. I pray her surgery went well.
Love and prayers to all and looking forward to meeting you all soon, Linda

Hi Everyone,
Another winter storm watch for Wednesday....JOY! Where is that little ground hog hiding at?!
Linda I had great news from my one year mamo too! Hang in there with the positive vibes.
I think we all need some cheering up around here. We need to have a spring break day get together. Let's plan on another luncheon soon.
The High School that my daughter is student teaching at is doing a project that could involve us. They are creating pink ribbons for the upcoming Detroit walk. If you would like to submit a name and/or a message I can forward it to the school. I already submitted "Wings of Hope Team" and my daughter submitted my name. Just let me know if you are interested.
Hugs

Congrats Wing Girl! Which walk are they making the ribbons for? The Wings of Hope walk or the 3-day? I will be walking the 3-day this year and would love to know if they will be there! Thank her from us!!!

I finished radiation last Monday. I went to U of Mi. I had Dr. Jagsi. I liked her a lot. I had lots of nausea. My skin in healing faster then I thought it would. It was VERY bad for a long time.
Hope all you are doing well. I am feed up with this Mi weather!
-
Congrats on finishing rads. I hope you danced all the way out the door! I did last August!
I need some advice. My onc said that I could take either fish oil or flaxseed oil for my aching knees from the Arimidex. I thought if we were ER + we should not use flaxseed. Any thoughts?
Thanks and Spring is around the corner. My daffodils are just barely peeking through.

Hello, everyone,
I can't believe I've been participating on this site for several months and never found this Michigan group before! Duh!!!
Anyway, as you can see below, I was diagnosed last March with DCIS, had a lumpectomy, then a mastectomy with tissue expander put in in June. I just finished chemo 2 months ago. Now I'm looking forward to surgery in April to put in the implant and reduce the other side. It's been a busy year!
I live in Berkley, Michigan and have been doing all the medical stuff at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. I have to say I've been so happy with the doctors and everyone else there.
Now that I've found you, I'll be back!
Linda
PS Linda7411, you have daffodils starting? I am SOOO envious! All I have is lots of snow!!!!
-
Susielou The ribbons are for the Detroit Komen walk. I found it amazing that this teacher and I crossed paths because of my daughter - small world. I envy you doing the 3-day walk, it has always been a goal of mine. Are there any pledges we can help you with I would be honored to help.
WELCOME Linda1 glad you found us. Congrats on finishing chemo. Best wishes on your upcoming surgeries. Hopefully by then SNOW will be gone.
Ilenee Dr. Jasgi was my onco too! I just saw her about a week ago. I live over an hour away from UM but for me it was well worth the trip. Congrats on finishing rads I finished last April, isn't that a relief to have behind you. Your skin should start to heal fast.
Linda I love spring flowers. Every fall I try to add to my bulb garden. I planted about 50 tulip bulbs last fall so I am anxious to see them bloom.
I had my first colonoscopy today WOW glad that's over!
take care

Hi Girls!
WingGirl: How nice of a project your DD's school is doing!!
Colonoscopy...................congrats............I keep dragging my feet on that one. Stupid I know.
Linda1: Welcome! Nice bunch of ladies here.........hope you can come to our next luncheon!
Linda: Daffodils................I'd be happy to atleast see a Robin!!
Hey all................Are we still planning a lunch for March or are we skipping into April? I know it's been hard to plan with this crappy weather and now Easter and such...............but I'm up for it!
Nancy and I are getting Manicures before we meet again!!!!!!!!! Right Nancy!!
I really think it would be fun to have a pampering party............don't know where to look for it, but I'm going to check around!!
Hugs to all!

Hi all - smiles to all during this never ending winter - grrrrr.
You and Nancy have beautiful hand - no worries - but count me in if there is a group manicure date
Look forward to the next get together!

I would settle for someone to wait on me serve me a meal and beverage. To me that's pampering - sad huh?
Nessie - Colonscopy was not that bad, if I can do it anyone can. Prep was the worst but it was doable. I was asleep during procedure and don't remember a thing. When you are ready to have the screening done I will be happy to give you some pointers. My DH wanted me to be the guinea pig then he will go through it - ha! he still has not scheduled appointment.
Susie - I was able to access your 3-day walk page. Thanks for sending me the info.
Hope everyone is doing well. SUN is shining!

Hey There from the SW of Michigan,
5 ROBINS were in my yard around dinner time!!! Yippee!!! Almost all of our snow is gone here in Kalamazoo.
I got a call from Anna Marie tonight. She is back home from knee replacement surgery on Troy and is doing well. Getting around with a walker and rehab is coming to her home. Surgery went well.
Take care and hope your snow is melting quickly.

Hi,
Where did you find the head boppers? I'd like to get some that are Pink.
There is a conference call in next Wednesday, March 26, by Living Beyond Breast Cancer. You have to register and I believe their web site is www.lbbc.org
It is all about pain for bc survivors. Thought some of you might like to either call in by phone or computer. I have to work, but perhaps some of you can share tips.
Hope you are all well.
Love and prayers, Linda

SusieQ - did your son do the drawing for your art work on your 3-day site? Too cute!
Linda - I actually saw my tulips popping up - guess where they are now? Covered in snow.

Hello Dear MI Sisters,
Well, here comes the snow again. My poor crocuses are all in bloom and I see a few buds on my daffodils. Hope this goes soon.
Well, I've been tested and tested since my one year Anniv hit. Went from Mammo and labs to US. Then due to pain still in nonsurgical breast, had a bone scan. Showed 2 small focii on side of head, but looked not clinically significant. But to be sure had CT Scan. Showed I DO have a brain, but a lesion. Fortunately my onc looked into it and it was there a few years ago when I had a sinus CT. So probably nothing. Will get it checked in 4 months again. Probably one of my battle wounds growing up with 2 older brothers. My R breast will be dangling in MRI tomorrow and then hopefully last of testing for now. I'm staying positive that it will match the mammo and US. If something should show, at least it would be very, very early. Keeping prayers going, however. I have 3 friends who just had recurrences. One is 11 years out. Glad I can be there for them and understand.
We should begin planning a gathering for end of April, hey? It should be warm by then.
Well, stay warm and safe. Spring is coming!!!!!
Love and prayers to you all, Linda
-
Anna - Hope your knee is getting better and you are back on your feet soon. Thanks for keeping us up-to-date, Linda.
Linda7411 - I've been thinking of you. How were your tests? I haven't gotten to the recommended web site but hope to this weekend. I'm way behind on my surfing.
About flaxseed - my onc said it was ok but that you would need more than you can possibly take for it to be beneficial.
He also said ok to soy and I am strongly ER+. He cited studies about how you assimilate Estrogen and Phytoestrogens but I do not remember the details to be useful to you.
The headboppers were made by our own Kats - Mary. She has been awol for a long time now and starting to worry me. I admit I'm not around much either but still worry about you guys.
Winggirl2 - I've been hibernating with the cold weather. I'm glad you keep the post up and that you got your colonoscopy out of the way.
Neesie - Can no longer look at my digits without thinking of you! Yep, that will be Winggirl, you and I for a manicure. How are you doing after your injury? I forget which body part you damaged.
Linda1 and Christiek13 - Welcome to our group. Linda, when is your surgery?
Susieloutoo - What can I say? You are a doll and so uplifting. It was nice to see you again. We talked about wanting to have another get-together. I'm game.
Where are my old buds? I miss you guys and hope all is well. That includes all the Wings of Hope gang!
People are signing up for Wings of Hope!!! Two people are having trouble with the web site. If anyone else is, let me know and I will sign you up myself if you want. Just send me an email or pm. Now - you guys have family and friends signing up but you haven't? What's that about? How can I twist your arms to join? Sure hope everyone is doing good. Check in!

Hey Nancy-
Until today yep, I've been AWOL from here for awhile now.
I logged in today to wish Lilia congrats, she got engaged woo-hoo.
I'm still going to sign up for the Team but as I already mentioned we're still not going to be able to join you guys this year. Looks like we're going to put off the Florida trip and instead use that money for some long over due 'stuff' for the house. It's 40 yrs old and believe me it looks it.
Okay gotta run. Miss you guys.
Mary

Hi all.
Haven't been here for a long time. Just checking in. Wanted to see if Wings of Hope was doing the Komen Race again. I will be signing up and doing some fundraising, but not sure if I'll actually be able to attend.
Hope to be able to visit here more often.
Waves hi to Winggirl.
-
Nancy, Kats, Rockysmom, WELCOME BACK! We have missed you.
Nancy - Look I finally learned how to post pix!
Kats - We will miss having you at the walk. I still have my head boppers from last year. My DD gave me a Pink Breast Cancer Bear from Build a bear and the bear wears my boppers.
Rockysmom - How have you been? Hope you can make it to one of our get togethers. And I hope it works out you can walk with us. BTW - how's your foot this year?
Susielou - I totally agree with Nancy - you are a doll!
I am signing up for the walk soon. I had other family members that wanted to participate but I think it's just going to be me, which I am fine with.
Take care Wings of Hope!

Kats - Lilia pulled a good one on us! We have to cook something up to get her back. Any jokesters out there with suggestions? I like your new avatar. I wish you could join us this year but I understand. Welcome back and hope you stick around!
Rockysmom - So glad you checked in. How is that foot of your's? Plan on meeting us some time whether you can do the walk or not. Yep, Wings of Hope will be doing the walk. Since you do fundraising, do you want posters for work or other places? If anyone does, let me know and I'll post where to get them. They have several places you can get them this year.
WingGirl - so sorry you learned how to post pics! Next time wait till I go to the ladies room or check to see if I have my eyes open!
Nice pic of everyone else.
Susie - surgery Monday, right? Wishing you the best outcome. Do you have something I can post at work about your lanyards? Everyone is asking Sue and me where we got them and she forwarded several people to you. If you email me something, I can print it and post it.
About Wings of Hope - Just a reminder that you can save on postage for the t-shirt if you don't mind meeting before the race or waiting until race morning since I am planning on packing t-shirts again and picking them up. Which brings me to IRENE!!!! Can I twist your arm to help? Anyone want to join us? (Like how I assume Irene will do this?) We actually get better every year at this. Our first year, we both had chemo brain and it was hysterical. We'd lose count of how many we packed-up and ended up counting over and over again. Then we had to go to the size group to get them and forget how many we needed. Ok, maybe it is only hysterical in retrospect.
I hope to stick around but don't get to post until evening or weekends. Just send me email if you need something sooner.

Hi ladies!
Winggirl - Thanks for the pic ..although not entirely pleased with my photo... Where did my eyes go???? I am so happy that I was there and go to meet all that could attend. I think of how I felt that day often. It was the first time in a long time that I could look around an know that you all understood what I felt and we could all be together. It was a great gift for me. Thank you. I hope to meet more of you at the walk in May. Haven't signed up yet - but will do.
Spynx - Oh you are too kind! Yep surgery is Tues morning....then start to work there ( in PS office on the 15th) I am very excited about both....So glad that the lanyards are liked - I am taking my logo to the printer tomorrow so I will have them make a sign for you. I did get an e-mail from your co-worker and I am sooo thrilled!
nessie - where are you???
I walked with Maureen tonite - training for the 3-day....
Take care all
