Genesis,
From all the research I've read, it seems alternative therapies do work in the short term. So you can have a 2 or maybe 3 year remission. But it seems that traditional medicine works better long term. So when you look at 5 year (and beyond) survival rates - surgery, radiation, chemo, tamoxifen and herceptin have the edge. Especially for advanced cancers such as yours.
Best wishes and stay in touch.

AMEN...Lisa39. My mom is living proof that traditional medicine does work....Taxol/Herceptin/Zometa has resolved her extensive mets to liver and bones, she is 6mm away from NED.

Statistics can be interesting. Concerning Tamoxifen...
The justification for Zeneca's claim of a 50% reduction in breast cancer lies in the difference between a 1.4% incidence of cancer in women taking tamoxifen versus a 2.7% indicidence in those taking placebo. The price of that 1.3% difference was very dear. Tamoxifen doubled the risk of endometrial cancer for women under 50. It quadrupled it in women over 50.
However, the company was being honest, it was a 50% difference.... of 1%.... and now, years later, they have discovered that is only effective for about 40% of women, and european doctors have found it to be ineffective even more so... Here is an interesting link,
http://www.ghchealth.com/chemotherapy-quotes.html
But take it with a grain of salt, and do some research before accepting my argument, or anyone's, including the oncologist. My mom did Taxol, and Taxotere, and Gemcitabine, and the list went on. Did what chemo does, reduced the tumor for a short period of time, but as usual, it came back with a vengeance... and everyone has a different experience with different treatments. But I will impress on everyone, take a real hard gander at those statistics, they can be quite deceiving.

Thank you, Erick, for pointing out how deceiving statistics can be!! It is actually frightening when one thinks about it because so many people buy into it.

Hi Lisa39,
I think you need to keep researching............!

Hello all- well this is quite a heated topic for anyone, but I'll throw my 2 cents in... In my experience a combination of finding the best doctor you can, then following his orders is the best route. NOW in saying that, I also believe you can pursue alternative supplements and therapies in addition to advanced medical treatment and see wonderful results. I am in no way someone that falls for "miracle cures," but I did take a recommended supplement by other cancer survivors between my diagnosis and surgery (6wks) and my 4cm ILC tumor (as visible quite clearly on a breast MRI) came out of me as only a small 1.4cm marble. SO, it was either the supplement, lots of prayer, a faulty MRI machine (at one of the best facilities in the world) or a combination of all that helped me out.
I think it's safe to say finding a well-respected medical doctor that is also open to exploring alternative therapies (supplements, herbs, vitamins) is the way to go. As my doctor said when I told him I wanted to take the supplement- it certainly won't hurt you, so go ahead if you want to take it (he'd actually done quite a bit of research into it himself already).
ALSO, I'm a thyroid cancer survivor, and I feel better now than before I had my thyroid removed because my body was so "out of whack" before! It's imperative you find a doctor that will listen to your symptoms and not only look at your thyroid blood tests to determine if you're "ok." Too many doctors see that you're in the "normal" range and dismiss you and your symptoms. The best doctors know that you can feel very different at different levels WITHIN the "normal" range. I take Armour Thyroid and feel so much better than when I took a synthetic like Synthroid.
Again, everyone is different, but this is my experience.

Hey genesis, hope you're still reading here. Haven't seen you post in a while. It's been 2 weeks since I received schulze's superfood, echinacea tincture and the intestinal formula #1. The good news is I've been feeling better. The downside is my difficulty with the intestinal formula. It gives me diarrhea.
I've been managing sort of ok with the superfood when I mix it with apple juice. I noticed, however, that the serving size is two tablespoons, and I can only stomach half that. I don't have a blender, and one tablespoon seems to be all I can get to mix with a glass of juice without it being sludge at the bottom. When I manage to get the superfood mixed in, I can honestly say I like my morning juice with the superfood in it. I'm just not getting a full serving of the superfood.
And that tincture sure makes the taste buds stand up and salute! I never did work up to five times a day, and it's not something I think I'd ever crave. It's very refreshing, even though the smell could make you think you'd be knocking people over with garlic breath. It leaves no aftertaste at all really.
I'm wondering how I might get some answers about the way I'm reacting to the intestinal formula.

Erick - I checked out the link you provided and you aren't seriously expecting me to accept the opinions of whoever these people are? There were no links to research/studies to back up their opinions. Most of the quotes were from the '90s and one was even from 1956! Some didn't even say when the person said it. Just because someone with an M.D. behind his/her name says something, it isn't automatically true. We all have opinions, after all. One of my biggest complaints about "natural and alternative" websites is their lack of proof to back up their declarations. I want the same level of proof that I expect from anyone trying to convince me their way is the right way.
As for your Tamoxifen stats, aren't those stats from the Breast Cancer Prevention Trial which was used to determine the usefulness of Tamoxifen in women with an increased risk of developing the disease? Since the majority of women on this board use Tamoxifen for treatment rather than prevention, those stats aren't relevant to most of us. The same goes for your quote about it only being effective for about 40% of women. That's out of all women, even those who aren't hormone positive. For those of us who are hormone positive, it's very effective for the majority of us.
As for the risk of endometrial cancer, it's very rare in premenopausal women and less than 1% in menopausal women. It also doesn't just appear overnight. It comes with warning signs and can be cured with a hysterectomy. http://www.breastcancer.org/treatment/hormonal/side_effects/tamoxifen.jsp
So, you're right...statistics can be deceiving - on both sides of the debate!

Cynthia, it is hard for me to not get worked up about "studies" as they are so dam* skewed by the the very researchers that are in them. Prime example. My first wife was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. she was eligible for a phase 1 trial drug with MD Anderson, it was our only hope. she then developed a blood clot, so we had to hold off on flying down for treatment. Two weeks later, they discovered the info about the blood clot (My mistake for telling them) and the pulled her off the trial. I have seen the same thing over and over with all sorts of cancer treatments. Friends who were diagnosed with bc, that on the beginning, had great results with the drugs administered. The moment she started going "south" they removed her from the study, and treated her like a pariah. it was unbelievable. didnt want to mar their study. So to me, these "researchers" are about as full of doo doo as the people on the other side of the fence. what I tell everyone is to find what resonates with you and pursue it. Western medicine or otherwise. But to put your faith in western medicine alone is much like a crap shoot. you might win, you might not. and having a minor background in statistics, one of our jokes used to be, "How would you like that to read"?
and rare or not, a hysterectomy is not a minor surgery...
My two cents.
-
Erick - Thanks for sharing your feelings about the unethical way many studies operate. I agree that it's disgusting and just plain wrong. I do think it's important, though, when you're using stats to make your point that you're clear on who they apply to. If a woman who is considering Tamoxifen reads what you wrote about it only benefiting 40% of women, she has no way of knowing what that stat means unless you're clear.
I agree that a hysterectomy is not minor surgery, but I don't feel the small risk of having to have one warrants refusing to take a drug that may prevent a recurrence. My risk of recurrence is very high, so I have to take that into account, and a recurrence could kill me, but endometrial cancer wouldn't.
Personally, I think it's all a crap shoot whether western, alternative, spiritual, whatever. I try whatever seems to have the best research stats behind it, but keep in mind that the next study could change that. I'm pretty cynical at this point.
Best wishes to you and your wife,
Cynthia

This whole debate about traditional/alternative treatment is interesting. What is imporant, is that neither traditional nor alternative treatments present a solid cure for breast cancer. If so, we would not need this web site. Breast cancer is still a matter of research, and ANY program that promises a cure should be viewed with extreme skepticism.
I remember reading that during the Middle Ages Doctors and individuals had a unique cure for jaundice and the brown/orange urine in hepatitis. Since the urine was discolored, the individual was instructed to drink urine from the public urinal in order to "flush" the brown/orange color out to return their urine to yellow. As diseases such as Hepatitis A can eventually resolve themselves, it probably appeared to often work. To us, that treatment seems insane. I am sure that 100 years from now, some of our alternative and traditional methods for treating breast cancer will seem just as insane. Medical treatment is a process which is continually refined. We need further research into methods for curing breast cancer, which tends to be difficult as their are so many kinds of breast cancer.
The choice to go completely alternative, a mixture, or completely traditional is highly personal. People should not be influenced by unsubstantiated claims, professional quality videos, or hypnotizing speakers that claim a cure. IT IS YOUR LIFE WITH WHICH YOU ARE PLAYING. Just be careful in your choices. God gave you a rational mind to make decisions. Use the mind that God gave you. Find a QUALIFIED doctor with whom you feel comfortable and he/she will guide you in these fields.
To all of you who are Schulz fanatics (who also seem to quote the Bible). The Bible say there is wisdom in many counselors. Do not base decisions only on this Schulz guy alone. Check it out. Good luck to all!
-
Mother - I agree with you whole heartedly. Take responsibility for your disease (my wife's words) and do your part to research, prevent, treat, whatever, but do NOT just rely on doctors, naturopaths, or even voo doo whoo doo. It is very personal, and should be taken very seriously, as you said, it is your life in your hands... (is it not every day?).
Lynda has made no claims to cures, only what is currently working for her after an incredible amout of research. I am just the support team, my butt is not in the "hot seat". But she spends and incredible amount of time researching, and checking the facts, not just hopping on a bandwagon and yelling "giddeeaappp". (and for that I am incredibly thankful).
as for stats, I stand on my statement, coming from western science OR alternative..... "How would you like that to read?" But I do get your point. In the future, I will do my best to post more accurate studies for those dealing with, not preventing bc..
Cheers, and good luck to all!

Bump - Like we did't get enough of this thread already.
But I want others to see how we all have different view about this.
Hope you all are doing well.

Not only do we have differing views, but those views can change. Earlier in this very thread I took exception to some things genesis said. Now I'm in the middle of my very first detox using the products she recommends. It's been several weeks since genesis posted. I wish she'd check in with us.

I also miss Imthankful...I wonder how she is doing....

Hello Friends
I had total hysterectomy and was placed on hormonal therapy which I took for 20 years and was advised to stop with diagnosis of breast CA.
I was diagnosed in Oct.2007 as stage 11B [ T2NmiMO,ER positive,PR negative,Her2neu3+
Had mastectomy, got treated with chemo, did not work,it metastized to bones, was treated with Herceptin. It seemed to be helping for 3 months but became ineffectve in next 3months.
Now my onco.wants to start me on TYKERB and XELODA
The side effects sound scary.
I feel like I have had enough of tradional and now it time to try some thing else.
I have been reading Genesis posts and kind of leaning toward it.I like natural and try my best to stick to organics.
I will appreciate any other suggesions. The cancer cells have spread to my liver according to recent PET scan.
I am hoping for some positive replies. In the mean time I am going to watch the Dr schultz video.
Thanks

HIDDEN CANCER CURE COMES TO THE US
The powerfull compound called -AHCC[ Activated Hexose Correlate Compound]

I wish Genesis would return and tell us how she is doing. Sadly, she was run off by folks who did not believe in what she was saying, but it was her information that encouraged me to look outside the box, and has put me on a path to wellness that I never thought possible.
Kamla, my heart goes out to you. I do not think any of us can advise you on what to do. What you are going through must be hell. All I can say is that I would do everything I could, except chemo if I was in your situation. I would do all I could to build up my immune system as much as possible to start knocking out cancer cells. Have you checked out cancertutor.com? There are great links there for treatments for all stages.
You will be in my prayers.

What fabulous news! Congratulations on your bravery to walk away from chemo! I know women who do well with conventional cancer treatment - I know I wouldn't have survived. It is outrageous to me that women - society - accepts this barbaric poison/slash/burn treatment so submissively. I've seen different things work for different people. Thank you for spreading your good news and courage.
-
Liza, where did you get all the things you are using as alt.treatment?
I have started on Budwigs diet suggested by Bill Henderson but I am still waiting for some of the supplies get to me.Please keep posted with your recovery I will too.If any one else knows or have tried this alt. treatment called MAGIC BULETT by Bill Hederson please let the others nkow about the success rate.
God Bless All

I was horified at how mean-spirited some people were to Gensis. If something helped me I would want to share it with someone else. I come to the alternative site at times in hope to find alternative approaches to healing cancer. I'm not popular on these boards probably because I am uncomfortable with conventional medicine. Although I do believe if there is a bad spot on the apple, cut it out. I have not known anyone who has beat cancer with traditional care. I've seen too many people suffer. I had a good friend at the five year mark again be dx with breast cancer and in a year she died a horrible death. I prefer to let my body heal itself.
People who decide to take the all natural approach should not be condemned for doing so. I would love to see research done on how many people who went with the totally natural approach and lived or was completely healed of their cancer.
Thanks Erick for that report. I'm saving it! It affirms what I've already researched and known in my gut. B.Barry

Haven't read all the pages, but wondering why it has to be traditional OR alternative? I expect that since each person is different and reacts differently, there is no one way to do things. If patient and doctors (of whatever background) talk and agree on a course of treatment, and the patient is complient and communicates to doctor and the doctor(s) listen and moniter...who are we to judge if its one or the other or a little of both? Each person needs to follow their own path, knowing the ups and downs that will come along with it.

JesusRock.........red clover is estrogenic and there is little if any evidence unlike Flax that it inhibits tumour growth. In fact in some studies I believe it promotes growth. The original essiac doesn't contain red clover.
Also, about Vit A..............Vitamin A Pushes Breast Cancer To Form Blood Vessel Cells

Phoenix,
Read those studies more carefully. They are only test tube studies. That means nothing. You can make cells grow or shrink with just about anything in a test tube by manipulating the amount of agent added to the MCF-7 cancer cell lines.
Now if you found studies in primates or humans that would get my attention!
