Nancy,
You don't have to "block" the squares.
Vickie, Liz and I always wash the afghans before we mail them. They always "fall together" nicely after they are washed and dried (delicate cycle).
Hugs, Madison

Oh my gosh you guys! I just got an afghan in the mail. I don't even know what to say. It could not have come at a more perfect time, but obviously you all knew that. I plan on bringing it with me to my appt on Wed, and until then I will be wrapped up in it, as I have been freezing since I got the news.
It is so beautiful, and it is such a beautiful thing you all do. I really feel like a mega loser now that I couldn't even get my act together enough to create one little square! I will make it a priority to figure it out!
Honestly, words cannot express how thankful I am to have received this beautiful gift.
With much love,
Colleen

Colleen - I am SO glad you got your hugs! Don't sweat making squares. DO it when it is fun, not stressful

Colleen,
I'm so glad you got this and they do seem to arrive at just the right time.
Hope it gives you warmth and comfort - it is a wonderful act of friendship, love and support.
I'm learning to make some squares - I'm getting there slowly.
Hugs, Brenda

Love you Colleen,
You're in my prayers,

OK, those of you that know me probably want to throw up when you hear me talk about my angelic child, but I swear, he really does say and do these things, still, even though he is almost 12 years old.
He came home from school, and saw the afghan spread on my bed. (I was trying it out, it fits perfectly!) I told him it was from my friends on this web site - he knows about you guys. He lied down on top of it, and asked me if he could "mess it up", and what he meant by that, was could he wrap himself up in it. I said sure, and he lay on his back, and wrapped himself up in the afghan. I will admit, I lied to him, and told him that you guys sent it to me to congratulate me, as I will reach my 3 years anniversary in May. As he lay there with a big smile on his face, he said, "do any of them know me?" He has asked me this question before, and as always I said, "they sure do, they have never met you, but lots of them feel like they have, because I talk about you all the time."
So, thanks for allowing me to talk about him all the time. My mom is dead, my dad is kind of crazy (god bless him!), I'm divorced, and while my sister is great and certainly loves Warren, she has kids of her own as well.
And also, thanks for letting him feel the love for me, I know it makes him happy to know that I have people who care about me (besides him!

The afghan on the previous page (Feb 18) was mailed to
ROBIN ROBERTS OF GOOD MORNING AMERICA
I received a response (from her press sec?) in today's mail
"Robin wishes that she was able to thank everyone personally. Robin received the wonderful afghan along with the letter you sent and they have truly lifted her spirits. She wants to thank you for sharing the story of your struggle and survival with breast cancer and wants you to know that you too are in her thoughts and prayers. Robin appreciates your support, encouragement and thoughtfulness"

Hi ladies. Just want to tell you the afghan you sent me is a great hit with the family. Dad become teary eyed when I showed it to him. His face spoke volume! My twenty-something brother and his girlfriend could not believe people I've never met took the time to make such a beautiful afghan and send it to me during my most time of need.
Thank you for showing my brother and his girlfriend that true kindness really exists and for showing dad that I am not alone in this journey and that there are so many with so much love to give. You are the greatest.
I am going to check out crocheting and maybe in the future I can also give some love to those in need. God bless you all. Love and hugs,

I love seeing pics of everyone's afghans. Madison - I'm glad you got a wonderful response about Robin Roberts. It's always nice to know that they get to where they are intended. That's cool you did the lionbrand thing.
Vickie & Madison - thank you both for coming up with this and teaching me to do it. It gives me more pleasure to do this than you'll ever know.
Hugs to you all,
Liz -
Everyone, I slept with my afghan on my bed last night. I frequently wake up during the night (I know, join the club right!) and I can't tell you how peaceful it was to see and feel your love. A friend stopped by today to check on me, and I showed her the afghan and letter, and she started to cry. She was amazed that this group of women, that have never met me, would do such a thing for me. When I explained the bigger picture, what you are doing for hundreds of women, she literally could not believe it.
I wish there was a more tangible way to not only express my thanks, but also to contribute (until I figure out how to knit the squares, which I really do want to try to figure out!) Can I donate money to buy yarn? Or donate yarn? Truly, I would love to do something to help keep this amazing project going.
Also, CNN used to have this thing called Everyday Heroes. I don't know a lot about it, but I want to look into it, and if it's possible, nominate you all as Everyday Heroes. I want to make sure you are OK with that. I guess I should look into it first!
OK, everyone who receives one of these probably has the same reaction, but it is just such an amazing thing you are doing, that I just feel like I want to do something more than just say thank you.
-
Colleen - I'm so happy the afghan gives you comfort and helps you feel the love we all have for you. They are amazing that way.
Madison - I actually have enough squares to make up 2 boxes of 21 squares each so I am sending 1 box to you and the other to Liz.

Every time I see a photo I think "Oh, that is my favorite one yet!" then the next one gets posted and I think..."No THAT is my fav!" Actually, the one on my lap right now is my all time favorite, but you know what I mean.
Vic, I love the one you did with each row being a color family....cool idea
Love you guys

I thought of something else I have been wanting to tell you guys.....In the first Gulf War, a million years ago, I knew several folks who were in the war. I was so scared they were going to be killed. I was in such a state I couldn't stand to sit still. I watched CNN obsessivly. I decided if I was going to watch the news, I had to do something positive at the same time. I have always loved oragami, so I folded Peace Cranes while I watched. I folded a thousand cranes and ended up stringing them on garlands and sending them to the Hiroshima Peace Museum. Somehow, although it made no real difference in the outcome of the war, it helped my soul. The project gives me the same feeling, only better.......

Hey all!
The picture on the post from Liz: 21 Feb, 3:44pm is the afghan I got! It is even more beautiful in person!
-
Oh, the pictures are sending me into "ooh, I gotta get that pattern" mode, the squares are all so awesome! I haven't looked back through all of the pages on this link....has there ever been a pattern exchange where we can list our favorites?
Colleen, tell Warren he's the most famous kid in his school! I hope to see the wonderful ladies who put the afghans together and mail them on Everyday Heroes!!
Deb, I love that you made 1000 of the cranes! Isn't that the number the little girl was trying to achieve? There is a statue of her on the University of Utah campus. I made some cranes one summer to take up there, but I only got to about 50.
MB, I am doing the "let's try this pattern" right now and I have 3 different squares going on. I think it's so addicting and fun - it helps me get over chemobrain to challenge myself with a new pattern!
