What are you doing for fun??

One of the major benefits of moving often is get tiding rid of stuff! Having to pack and move unnecessary "stuff" is a great motivator. I, too, am storing lots of stuff my adult kids collected when they were young. Hoping that one day they have room to store their own stuff. My sister was visiting recently and I was able to pass on a lot of my scrapbooking supplies to her. I have one ongoing project and kept enough to finish it .... Then I am done! Now, if I could only part with all my fabric scraps ... Not an easy task for a quilter! lol

My basement is full of items that my children left here when they transitioned from college to their more independent lives. They are all married now, and I know that they will never reclaim those previously cherished belongings. I think there is even a trunk full of English papers from one of my sons. WHY??? I have to throw all those things away, but every time I see them, I lose my interest in cleaning out. I should have all my sons come here some Saturday to help get rid of everything once and for all. That is easier said than done, of course, since they don't all live close by and they are busy with their families. Look at me making excuses for them. Hahaha!

GatorGal, I would love to see pictures of some of your quilts. I am a very bad quilt maker, but I appreciate the beauty of others' quilting. I have made a quilt for each of my grandchildren to give them when they were born. I just finished one for my granddaughter who his due at the end of December.There have been lots of things going on in my life lately, so I made a very, very simple one this time. I was afraid I wouldn't have time to finish anything too elaborate.

My grandmother made quilts out of necessity. My mom used to make all our clothes when we were young (again, out of necessity), I remember she would send my grandmother all her scraps. We loved visiting "mamaw" and seeing pieces of our dresses in her quilts. Mamaw made each of her grandchildren a quilt. Mine was my security blanket, especially when I went to college. It is stored safely in my cedar chest, not in the best shape after years of use and washings, but brings me close to my grandmother every time I take it out to look at it. I have made baby quilts for all my nieces and nephew, as well as my children and grandchildren. I also made a full size quilt for my mom. My quilts were always given with the instruction that they be used! I wanted them to become "blankies." They are not works of art, but works of love. I always say this is my last one, but joyfully do have to make one more. My daughter is having her first and only in January. I will try to find some pictures to post. I love the idea of making them for charity. If I only had more motivation

GatorGal, Those quilts are beautiful. Thank you for posting the pictures. I am sure your granddaughters will cherish them as they grow older. I will have to find some pictures of mine, but they pale in comparison. I use very simple patterns.

Ha ha, sorry Gatorgal, but your quilts ARE works of art. Simply beautiful! I'm quite jealous of your talent. I understand what you mean, tho, about them being works of love. Very meaningful. And such good advice, telling recipients the quilts are to be used

thanks for all your positive comments. The pinwheel quilt was made with fabrics I found from the dick and Jane reading books. At the time I was teaching middle school reading so loved putting that one together for my granddaughter. I'm looking forward to planning the next one. The baby will be named Delilah Raven and her nursery will be done in shades of purple and violet for the Baltimore Ravens. I guess I'll be buying new fabrics because in all my boxes there are no purples. Fun time at the fabric store!!

Gatorgal, those are stunning!!!!!!!!!!!!! And more news from me. Still enjoying selling stuff.. Made friends at the post office.. What's more, now I 'm officially financially helping 2 kids' school expenses with the bits of what I earn. Feels so fullfilling ))))

good to see you, Ebru. I laughed when you said you were making friends at the post office, I'm too lay for that. I print my labels at home and arrange carrier pick up. Love selling stuff on eBay though I find I go in spurts. Taking a break now for thanksgiving and a little travel to be with family in Florida. Leaving right after chemo this afternoon, enjoy the holiday, all those who celebrate it!

Yesterday's ultrasound, for pregnant dd, and celebratory luncheon were wonderful. My daughter's MIL and I were a bit overexcited in the ob's office, but grandmother hood is by nature exciting (this is her first grandchild). I can't reveal the gender yet, as they have only told close family, but let's just say I will have balance in my life! And we did do a bit of gender specific shopping after lunch .

Kiwi, not sure what happened, but when I posted my Thanksgiving photos, somehow the previous post with my family room was deleted! I mentioned that we were hosting a very casual Christmas Eve gathering this year since one of my sisters, who did it for 30 years isn't interesting in having it anymore. I enjoy creating a cozy, festive atmosphere for guests to relax and have a nice time.
