What are you doing for fun??

Caryn, you have to do what makes you happy. I've always wanted a tattoo. My husband has always been pretty against it. After going through chemo, rads and surgery I said, "honey, I'm getting a tattoo". His answer was " whatever makes you happy".
Yeah baby! That's right.
Your Hamsa will be beautiful. Make sure your tattoo artist is really good and completely knows what they are doing. I'm sure you will.
Can't wait to see it.

Caryn, while it is true that Halacha (Jewish religious law) forbids tattoos, there is NO truth in the idea that if you have a tattoo you can't be buried in a Jewish cemetery. I was told this by an Orthodox rabbi who would NEVER have a tattoo (on his ankle or anywhere else!). This is not the only "Urban Legend - Jewish Edition" that I've heard.
Leah
-
Leah,
I think it was a conspiracy by Jewish mothers to prevent their children from getting tattoos! My mother, may she rest in peace, would not be happy, but I always marched to my own drummer and she knew that well. So, I'm 99% sure that I'll do it. And, clearly, the rabbi with the tattoo was ultra reformed.

I am home from my Norway trip but a bit overwhelmed. My mom died the morning I left on my trip and I have been busy since I got home trying to prepare a eulogy and slide show for her memorial service in Florida this Sunday. Anyway, I have just a few pictures to post but that's probably all you will want to see anyway! I could bore you with hundreds because Norway is sooooo beautiful!! We had a great time with my husband's cousins and got to see so much of his family that he hadn't seen in 35 years. It was pretty darned awesome!

-
P.S. All my kids have tattoos but I am a big chicken .... It looks so painful and I'm just not that into pain!! Caryn, I want to see it when you get it!!
-
I'm so sorry to hear about your mother's passing. May she rest in peace and live on in your memory.
Norge does indeed look gorgeous. I have always heard people describe it that way and hope to go one day and practice my poor Norsk language skills. The northern lights are calling me ☺️.
I hate pain and needles but the forearm is supposed to be easy to tolerate. Sept. 23 is the date and I will post a pic.
God Natt!
Caryn -
I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing, GatorGal. That had to be so hard; can't imagine. Glad you still managed to enjoy Norway. It looks amazing!
-
GatotGal, what spectacular photos of Norway. Am sure the real thing was sensational. Especially love the photo with you in it.
I am so,sorry to learn of your mom's passing. It is a difficult time, and I lift you up in prayer. -
Thanks for the support, all! It may sound strange, but I am just glad that she went before me. She had such a difficult time dealing with my illness. I know she is at peace. I appreciate all the love here
-
I feel OK today. Planning a trip to our mountain cabin with our children
) hope, can do it! Will post pics if I possibly can -
I went with my DD and her girls to the pool today. The little ones love the water so much!
Little bits of fun are wonderful.
Leah
P.S. Grandchildren are THE BEST!

Like Lily Tomlin? Into small, independent, thought-provoking movies with strong character actors?
Treat yourself to "Grandma."
We loved it!

I'm back at work & trying to settle down to real life after a most amazing holiday. I even managed to forget about BC for a lot of the time!
Still in a calm, happy place & planning to hold on to that feeling for as long as possible. At least until next week's zomedron tx I can pretend BC isn't part of my reality :-)
To add to the stunning pics of Ireland & Norway, here are some from the Philippines & Sydney, Australia.
The kids snorkelling at Club Paradise
Aptly name Club Paradise :-)
me & my little monkey in our happy place - warm ocean!

Beautiful pics, Karz! You and your "little monkey" are adorable!
-
Tina, I will check out the movie when it comes to DVD. I watched Lily's new series on Netfix, the one with Jane Fonda, I think it's called Frankie and June. Really liked it.
Karz, your photos are simply breathtaking. They make me feel good just looking at them; thanks forposting and so glad you enjoyed that magical vacation
-
Karz - wonderful pics!
-
Greqt pictures, Katz! Agree, you and your little monkey are precious!!

It was an erratic summer as dh and I moved my 87 year old mother in law into an apartment across the street and are getting her house ready to sell. Many bumps along the way.
To counter the upheaval, in short bursts of spare time I stalked lawn and garden centers after the 4th of July for marked down perennials. Added hydrangea,black-eyed susans, butterfly bushes and more to the back yard for a bargain. Tho the yard is not very large, I have perennials in bloom from spring to fall. When I asked dh to dig a hole in a specific place for a rose bush, he said, "That bird bath (planted with flowers) will have to go." I said, "Yeah. No, not happening. Just dig." Silly man. More flowers means less weeds. Here's a butterfly on my coneflower, you can also see a water lily in bloom on the little pond:

We also visited an urban garden. It was tucked into the middle of a neighborhood, spread over several acres of fields and woods. It was such an enchanting place, if fairies were real, this is where they'd vacation.

In a couple weeks, I'll start a T'ai Chi class offered by the community college. I've always wanted to try it, and I feel a bit out of my comfort zone. It's twice a week, 14 total classes.
At the beginning of October, the Broadway show "Jersey Boys" is coming to Pittsburgh and dh and I have tickets to go. Looking forward to that.

My husband and I took a one week cruise to Alaska. What a beautiful part of the world it is! Here are pictures for you to enjoy of mountains and water, whales (we saw lots of them!) and the spectacular White Pass Railway in Skagway.

-
Great Pics Divine and Best Bird. I so appreciate all of the natural beauty in the world. I feel actually lucky that can appreciate things so acutely. Our unfortunate diagnosis has a (albeit very small) silver lining.

Beautiful pictures! So glad you're doing fun stuff Divine and Bestbird.
It's coming on to spring here and we should know by Friday or Monday if we're getting the house we want to buy. If so, then let the paint and plant selections begin!
Hope everyone is having a good day.

Just getting caught up after being on vacation in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan a few weeks ago.
Terre – Hope all goes well and you get the house. Choosing paint is so exciting! I have regularly pour over my paint swatch book even though we don't really have any rooms left to paint.
Bestbird – wow! It seems Alaska is THE place to be this year, and I can see why. Sounds like you had a great time.
Divine – look at you! I have coneflowers too and they are my favorites. Every fall a pair of Goldfinches comes by to eat the seeds. The like when they get crispy and burnt from too much sun and lack of water. Great pic of the swallowtail butterfly too!
Katz – What a cutie! Such beautiful photos, I feel like I standing with you in the sand!
Caryn - Looking forward to seeing that tattoo! Yours is beautiful Stafajoy!
GatorGal – Gorgeous photos. Really spectacular.I join with the others in giving my condolences on your mother's passing.
Here's my little collage of our trip. We took over 1500 photos, so it has been hard to narrow them down!

-
Great photos, Shutterbug. Hanging out with the youppers, eh?
the UP is stunning and I'm so glad you shared it with us! -
Bestbird, your Alaska photos are majestic. Such beauty. The train rail looks unbelievable!
Shutterbug, your Michigan photo collage should be used for tourist magazines! So many beautiful points of interest.
Kiwi, best wishes on the house sale.
-
Ditto what Mrs M said. Loved all the photos. I can see why shutterbug's name is shutterbug! There's lots of talent on these boards. I agree, the photo collage has me wanting to go visit Michigan. I especially love lighthouses. Not sure why. Kiwi, let us know about the house. Mrs. M, you seem to have a green thumb. I can't get anything to grow. Black eyed Susan's are maryland's state flowers. I have tried to grow them at every house we have ever lived in and just can't.
I have no big plans for September. Need to settle down a bit and get my house back in order. Started back on Chemo today and other than a decadron night, feel pretty good. Switched to navelbine and have to research it on BCO to see what has been experienced. Always reading to do .... Keep the photos coming.
-
Love all these pictures, ladies! Really, I need to post some. It's just that they're on my phone and I find trying to use BCO on my phone and not to mention uploading pics, to be a real pain for me! Ha!
But, I was able to take a vicarious vacation or two through the pics you all posted. Except for you, Shutterbug, you are posting pictures of my backyard!!!! (I'm a Yooper)
As for me, I am excited because I get to go to an NFL game later this month. I've always wanted to go and the perfect opportunity presented myself. It will be me, my husband, and our two twenty-something kiddos. Can't wait!
Here's to wonderful vacations, football games, beautiful flowers and the like!
-
I love, love, love everyone's photos!
Caryn (the worst photographer in the known universe) -
Now now Caryn, we know that's not true! Your Alaska photos were incredible! 😊
GatorGal if you ever decide to visit Michigan let me know. I believe Michigan has more lighthouses than any other state. People forget how much coastline we have because we are in the Midwest. http://www.michiganlighthouseguide.com/list.html
Macy - your "backyard" is truely spectacular!
Thanks everyone for the compliments. I hope I've lived up to my name!

-
Shutterbug - That's an interesting fact that I did not know about Michigan. I may have to add it my living list now!
-
Shutterbug, I knew that about Michigan because it was a question in Trivia Crack. I guessed and got it right because I could visualize the lakes!! I lived in Chicago as a child (Navy brat) and was at a Michigan State football game many years ago, but have done zero sightseeing there! I will add Michigan to my list of places to visit! I have never been to Montana or North Dakota and would like to get there one day as well! We live in a beautiful country with so much to see! And Caryn, you are a darned good photographer!!
