    Frill - welcome! I spent those last few weeks before my first surgery doing tons of exercise - it was the best way to keep stress away. I would suggest that you concentrate on legs and core - depending on what kind of surgery you're having, you'll have very limited use of your arms, and getting in and out of chairs and bed can be a struggle. Having a strong core and legs will help a lot with that. Another simple trick - start practicing now by getting up from a chair or bed not using your arms - just your legs and core. You'll figure out pretty quickly what you need to strengthen!

    Ginger - I'm so sorry about your MIL. Angiel - 260 squats??? I'd be dead!

    I ran the 10K race this Sunday that was the goal race for that running training program I've been doing since August. It's a very hilly course, so it's quite a test! I was a bit disappointed because my time was 3 minutes slower than last year's race, but as I thought back on it, there's not a single place in the race where I could have done anything differently. I gave it the best that I had in me that particular day, so I have to take that as my victory.

    It feels good to be able to run a 10K again! After all the life drama last spring, my running had gone down the tubes. Some of you may remember that back in April when we were living at the hotel after the flood, I started back into it with a Couch to 5K app, then once I could run a 5K again, I signed up for the 10K training program. I knew the program would be grueling, but I I also knew it would kick my butt when I needed it. And it worked! Now that the clinic has gotten me back into running shape, I'll be glad to dial the running back a little and have the energy to do a more balanced workout. Because the program was so intense, my exercise became very run-centric, and I slacked off on doing other things like weights and flexibility. Now I want to get back to doing those again. I got started this morning with some stretches and foam roller work.

    Here's a picture of my pace group at our end-of-training banquet last night. I'm on the far right behind the woman in red. We're pretty confirmed Back of the Packers - none of us will ever win any prizes for speed - but I think that just makes us more determined to just keep going!

    Ginger . . .Prayers for your MIL

    Frill. . .welcome and best wishes for surgery. I suggest doing whatever works for you. I went into diagnosis with a very bad L4/L5 and that hurt my BMx recovery. As soon as I could I got back to the gym. Started very slow on treadmill and had to do baby weights but stuck with it increasing execise and hiking until EX. Then had to start at ground zero again, but now am finally getting there. I workout in hotel gyms when traveling.

    Mary. . .wow you are inspiring. I hope some day I will run again.

    Ruth. . . that's awesome. Is your ds an athletic geek? My dd is looking for one. She's almost 20.

    At the gym pounding the treadmill. Yelling at my Fitbit HR which won't sync since time change. My goal this winter is to get back in the pool at least 2x a week. I have to teach my arms how to swing again.

    Ginger, hope your MIL is doing better.

    Mary, what a great picture!! You all win the prize in my book!

    Scottie, DS is more geek than athlete.....but he is a very nice guy (not that I am prejudiced at all!).

    I have had a fun day: I subbed in 6th grade Reading (where the lesson plan said to read to the kids.....whoo hoo!), and low and behold, what should be on the lunch menu but TATER TOT HOTDISH!Zumba tonight.

    I think I will try to go to bed early because I feel like the lady in this cartoon:

    Frills, welcome to the group. Find what you like so it will be easier to make it a routine.

    My exercise was housecleaning and laundry over the weekend. Today was back to bootcamp.

    Welcome Frills!

    Angiel-You would definitely enjoy the weather and the shrimp here this time of year. We can swim well into November.

    Ruth- Your cartoon is so true and very funny. My children willfully went to sleep at 9 pm and got up at 6 am without an alarm. It probably won't happen again!

    Hbcheryl- Your classes always sound like fun

    Thought I'd jump in - I'm trying to make sure I keep active through treatment when possible. A week after my mastectomy, I was walking up to 2 miles a day. Today I went to the Y and walked for 30 minutes on the track. I hope to someday get back to Zumba classes.

    Welcome Cubbie this is a great thread to help keep you motivated and you'll get back, it just takes time. Mary fabulous picture, and you accomplished your goal Ruth my phone reset itself yesterday but it 'fell back' 2 hours instead of 1, by the position of the sun I knew it wasn't right but for a while there I was a bit confused. Annie my classes are fun and I belong to a chain that allows me to check into any of their facilities so I travel all over and find great instructors which helps motivate me. Angiel my former Body Jam instructor is now at Beachbody and she is developing a program for them, it's trialing now I'm so excited for her she's a fabulous girl (for all the Year 1 California Dreaming girls it's Jericho)

    Cubbie - welcome! Walking is a great way to come back from surgery - my surgeon encouraged me to walk as much as I could after surgery. Does your name mean your a baseball fan? There are a few "diamond gals" on here!

    Ruth - love the cartoon.

    LOL on all the matchmaking going on.

    I did an easy 30 minute run this morning as I'm still recovering a bit from Sunday's run. One good thing about the time change - I didn't have to wear my running lamp this morning. I had a few interested spectactors this morning during my run. As you can see they're real concerned about my presence, aren't they?

    Cardio Sculpt this morning, house cleaning is afternoon & off to Barre shortly (DH thinks that I am going to a BAR every Tuesday night.....I keep explaining but he never remembers from week to week!).

    Cubbie. . .welcome. If you could walk 2 miles a day one week post BMX you are already on the right track and we'll on your way.

    Another slug day today, unless PT counts. . .work will be very busy this month and every day exercise will be tough. Will be back to the gym tomorrow. Got into a fight with my FitbitHR yesterday. It stopped syncing at 3am Sunday right after it fell back. Had to manually restart twice and then sync via usb to computer before it gave up the fight and decided to sync with my phone again.

    You know your Fitbit owns you when you freak because it won't sync.

    No workout today. Classes on Medicare options then class on Diabetes management took up most of day.

    Tomorrow noodle aeribics (in water), probably some walking and then a massage scheduled.

    NatsFan, yes, I'm a Cubs fan. They had a good season this year. Hopefully they will do as well next year, too.

    The deer in my neighborhood are so tame they don't even run away when I come out to do yard work, they are just sort of annoyed I'm around. They always look like I'm the one invading their space.

    Did 35 minutes of walking at the Y tonight. I'm hoping to talk to my OT when I see her next week about rejoining my weekly yoga class, and just modifying any moves I can't do. I talked to my instructor before my surgery, and she said I was welcome to come back whenever I was ready and just do what I could.

    I would love to tell y'all about my surgery, but right now I *still* don't know what it is, well, except that it's either a lumpectomy or a mastectomy. >.< The MRI results came back in today, so suddenly I got called in to do an MRI biopsy, which sounds worse than the first biopsy I had. It was something with a machine and boy, that was something. Ultrasound biopsies I lived with, they knew after that first torture thingy that I had to have extra numbing. I can take a lot of pain, but with my anxiety, I'll also come out of my skin if I get scared. So I'm just a big barrel of fun. It's too bad they don't have nitrous for this stuff.

    I can work on core - I have a core challenge that I did last year and it was great. Planking is something else, but I love a challenge and I can completely see how it will be helpful.

    As far as my DVD collection goes - it's just about all the Beachbody stuff: P90, P90X, Brazil Butt Lift, Focus T25, Turbo Fire, Chalean Extreme, some of the Jillean one and Tae Bo. I feel like I'm leaving some out, but that should give you an idea.

    Maybe tomorrow I'll know more about what will happen to me. In the meantime though, I need to get back to that core challenge and maybe try a push up challenge.

    Insomnia but one thing a personal trainer taught me is that on such days you so an easy aerobic exercise like the stationery bike. I did 5 miles at 65 per cent of my heart rate on the stationery bike. Hope it helps me sleep better tonight. 5 hours just not enough!

    Cubbie - I saw your team at Wrigley this August - it was that series where you manhandled the Giants. I was really impressed with all facets of their game and at that point I knew they were for real. And I love that handsome Justin Maxwell - he grew up just a few miles from where I live and is a local favorite. As for my poor Nats, the soap opera continues . . .

    Also, Cubbie - have you checked out the thread about developing a safe exercise program after breast surgery? I'll bump the thread for you - there are links to two handouts you can download. One is for you and contains specific info about adapting exercising like strength training, yoga, etc. after breast surgery. There's another handout you can print to give to your yoga or other fitness instructors. It explains about the risks of lymphedema after breast cancer surgery, and gives them specific guidance on how they can adapt their programs. The thread is called Guidelines on Exercise For Those With/At Risk for Lymphedema

    Frill - I used the old Power90 program about 15 years ago to lose 50+ pounds. It was so long ago I actually had it on VHS tapes! I did it religiously 6 days a week for about 6-8 months, and it really got me on the road to fitness. We liked it so much that we bought the DVDs when our old VHS player gave up the ghost. Even today I'll haul out those DVDs for a few weeks if I need a change of pace. Tony is a bit goofy on them, but the workouts are effective.

    Ruth - I like your husband's idea of hitting the bar every Tuesday!!!

    I started the squats challenge again this morning, plus getting back into strength training with weights.

    At the gym working off my daily frustration from lack of sleep and too much stress. Cannot wait for Thanksgiving. 5 days/4 nights in the Okefenokee. State park with 2B/2B cottage and little to no Internet or phone service. Going to disconnect and focus on hiking, boating and my photography. Oh yeah, I'm also gonna sleep alot.

    Still wet outside. We have a terrible leak in the basement and garage. Think it's the water service line to our house so now we have the water cut off. And just like that, the leak stopped. Plumber coming in the morning.

    Walked/ran in the house. It freaks the cats out.

    So no noodle aerobics as they were cleaning that pool. Stopped by another pool for water aerobics class and it was full (no more than 75 allowed in pool for class) so went to a new rec center (total now 10) pool and worked out for an hour. 90-minute massage this afternoon.

    Not much walking, today! But had a good onc appointment!! Tumor markers are still a little high, but my onc looks for trends and huge jumps in numbers!! So, not worried! Walked a lot of stairs in our building!!

    Back on track tomorrow😃

    Hope the visit with your MO is nice and boring, sunshine!

    Hope your plumber shows up on time, Wonderland......and we are getting such a big group of walkers because everyone we know sees how much fun we are having and decides to retire and join us. Happy

    Frill, you do have quite the collection. You will have to dial it back for awhile after whatever your treatment plan is. But you can always walk & I concentrated on my lower body during recovery & then started with the easier DVDs. Anything with weights, I did the movements WITHOUT any weights & then started with the very lightest of weights and very, very slowly worked my way back up to normal....which took a long time......but was able to be done.

    Zumba and Yoga tonight.
