What are you doing for fun??

This afternoon I decided I had to capture the colors of a particularly flamboyant canna in a container on our patio. It's so tall I realized I needed a ladder to shoot the blossom. When I climbed up, I found a surprise I had not seen from the ground. Look what was waiting for me to take its portrait!
-
Soooo cool, Tina, the flower and the bug!
-
Tina, that is absolutely gorgeous! Such happy colors too:) Thank you for sharing it
-
Very cool, Tina! Thanks for sharing!

Great photo Tina! It's amazing what can happen when you take the time to look at your subject from a different perspective

Last week we took a four-day trip to Providence, Rhode Island, which we had never visited. It's a friendly small city that's the capital of a tiny state and on the upswing after some difficult economic times. We took an orientation ride around the town, explored historic sites and museums, and shopped at a funky street fair and artsy women's clothing store, spending too much money in the process. We enjoyed walking colonial-era streets (some up hills rivaling San Francisco and Seattle) dining in good restaurants and the hip, young vibe engendered by many thousands of college students who call the town home during the school year.
One day we drove to Newport, which was unpleasantly crowded with sailing enthusiasts in for a weekend boat show plus 2,400 passengers from a cruise ship. Unfortunately Newport is too small to absorb such volumes of tourists and still feel welcoming. Nevertheless, we wandered around the docks and town, checking out the oldest synagogue in the area, typical "New England calendar" churches, and beautiful historic streets. Crowds and parking issues forced us to miss visiting the famous "cottages."
The best part of our short sojourn? Meeting up with Susan_02143 who came down from Boston to Providence for a day and night! Together we checked out parts of downtown and the lovely RISD museum, then caught up over lunch and dinner at excellent restaurants.
Now that's what I call fun!
-
Tina, your trip sounds wonderful. I bet you had great weather and it sounds like you made the most of it, despite some large crowds
-
The weather was perfect, Divine--hotter than we'd expected, but clear and sunny!
-
Sounds fantastic, Tina!
-
Only fun I have had this month was driving down to Providence and hanging with Tina! Can't recommend the RISD museum enough. Such a gem! We had terrific food and laughed [so much laughter which is great for the soul.] I had not been well, but my body knew this was an important trip and cooperated. I was able to enjoy the meals and trip. Even a short 24 hr vacation can brighten one's outlook.
And no "cottages?" Oh dear! We will have to get you up here again.

Whoo hoo! Great fun! Rugby world cup final and New Zealand won!

Congrats to the All Blacks!
Happy Halloween as well. What is your costume this year? There are 4 first grade classes at my school, rooms numbered 1,2, 3, and 6. So, the teacher in room 6 was the Cat in the Hat, and the rest of us were Things 1, 2 and 3, complete with wild blue wigs. Yes, I know there is no Thing 3 in the story, but , oddly enough, they sell Thing 3 T-shirts. Yes, you guessed it. I am in room 3 and so, I was Thing 3. I'll be reprising the costume tonight as I trick or treat with my granddaughter.
-
Definitely want Thing 3 pictures, Caryn! Sounds adorable.
Happy Halloween everyone!

We don't celebrate Halloween here in Israel but for our holiday of Purim costumes are worn. One year my DD dressed up as The Cat In The Hat and dressed her baby twins as Thing 1 and Thing 2. She always has good ideas for costumes - another year she dressed the twins as salt and pepper shakers. (They just had their 3rd birthday. I'm looking forward to this year's costume!)
There is an organization here called Beit Natan - it's a support organization for women with cancer. Every winter they have a women's retreat (which is always wonderful) and recently they've also started to have couple's retreats. My DH and I went this week. It was wonderful for both of us. Like most men, DH doesn't talk a lot about what he's feeling so it was good for him to be among others gong through the same thing and hear what they had to say.

Leah,
I love your daughter's creative ideas. When I was young, our Purim costumes were very traditional. Our neighborhood synagogue was filled with mini Queen Esthers

My Husband and I just returned from a weekend at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park. We had been there a couple of years ago, and felt we wanted to return in the fall. The first two days were blue sky and wonderful weather, and today on our way out it was raining heavily and there was a possibility of snow.
A wonderful break that we both needed. Now back home to dog and hearth. It's always good to be home, even after a relaxing time.
-
Hoe wonderful! I have always wanted to stay there
-
Just got back from a wonderful trip to the Bahamas. We had so much fun!
-
Wow! Great picture and experience, Teacher! Looks fantastic!
-
Teacher, great picture. Looks like a wonderful vacation!!
-
I love your post! I just found out today that the cancer they found in the biopsy, is stage IV.
-
Dear God please. ANYONE

Greenwillow3, I am so sorry for your diagnosis of stage iv breast cancer. I am sure you are feeling many different emotions right now and are feeling scared and confused. There are many threads on these boards that you could find helpful. If you tell us a little more about your diagnosis, we can steer you in the right direction. Is your bc ER+ or ER-? Is it PR+ or PR-? Is it HER2+ or HER2-? We're has your cancer spread to? Bones? Somewhere else? There are many people here to help and support you

Greenwillow - I wish I had time to write more, but I'd echo what Lynne said. A thread that may help a bit is: https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/8/topics/...
It does get better with time. Hang in there and don't be shy in asking for support.

green willow, so very sorry to learn of your diagnosis. Yes, please let us know a bit about yourself. We are all here for each other, we can offer you support. The beginning when you learn about the stage iv diagnosis sucks. It is a huge roller coaster of very many lows and lowers and then you begin finding a new normal and move forward, even if it is just baby steps. I saw on another post you are a widow with two daughters. You did not deserve this, neither did your daughters. It is a lot to contend with. Take some deep deep breaths. Take it a day, an hour at a time. We are here.
-
green willow,
Good advice from previous posts. I think finding threads that relate to your specific mets or treatments will be helpful. You are always welcome on this "fun" thread, but you may not be quite ready for this yet. Take good care of yourself

Just started selling secondhand stuff I no longer use online & funding two kids' school expences.. Feels good :
-
That's great Erbu!
-
I have been selling stuff on eBay for years. My sister just retired so I am selling all her nurse's scrubs for her. It's gotten me back into digging into my closets to see what goodies I might be able to sell. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised by how much someone is willing to pay for something. If I don't sell it in eBay, it's off to my favorite charitable organization and I pick up a tax receipt. Cleaning out stuff feels good and I know I am Helping my DH in the long run. Of course last night I was on the buying side. Got my grandson a used iPhone for his Christmas present. There's always a downside to getting on a site like ebay
-
Gator gal,
I too find myself divesting . I own too much stuff despite the fact that I was never big on accumulating things, it just happened over the decades. If only my dd's would get their stuff out of my garage, then I could truly embrace a more minimalist lifestyle 😜
Not everyone's idea of fun, but I woke up quite early to watch the pouring rain outside my window. After so many years of drought it looks like we might have a rainy winter. Except for walking the dogs in the rain (and having to fight their valiant efforts to be toweled off), I can't get enough of it. The best part is that it wasn't on a school day, so no indoor recess. Anyway, the sun has now come out, though it's quite windy. Back toworking on report cards.
