INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

Ah Queenie - I have an array of stuff to stir in. Trader Joe's has the best and softest berry blend I've ever had (Golden Berry Blend 8 oz). Not really cheap but then again within my budget for a small amount. Have a tiny pkg of M&Ms hidden out. Granola, fruit butters, trail mix. I figure if they sell already packaged for kids I can make it just the same. Did you ask about posting pictures? I'm the one that just again figured out how to post you tube's again.
Having a take it easy day. Nearly got a heatstroke out running around yest. retrieving DH's tire. Finishing school supply shopping for church backpack. Had a heck of a time finding 12 x 18" construction paper. Of course today is a bit better.
Sassy the only thing I figure iceberg lettuce is good for is BMs and some hydration.
-
Goats: taking notes. Even yogurt would get old after a while, though there's more reason than protein to eat it.
Don't even get me started on iceberg lettuce. Celery does at least add a depth and complexity to soup stock. I still haven't been convinced that iceberg lettuce is even a food.
-
Had to run an errand this afternoon to a little community up the road and on the way back, the wed farmers market was going on. Came away with some fresh squash, eggplant, lemon cucumbers, and string beans! YUM!

-
Thinking about having a yogurt in the morning along with half an apple. Told hubby that I was thinking about getting a melon and cutting it up in chunks.
Sas, I'm thinking your right about this and that "quack" is just spouting party line.
I only have salads for dinner and lunch sometimes. I am thinking of making some popcorn a bit later if I get the munchies. Not one to load it down with butter and salt. Don't mind it being plain. I do eat trail mix or nuts when I have them, though I have to be in the mood for them.
-
i like iceberg lettuce! Why is it bad? Tell me!

-
Some of you might like this guy, but you have to admit, this is funny!

-
Mema - not that iceburg is bad per se but there are much healthier varieties of lettuce. Deep green color usually equals more phytonutrients, the good stuff. Red/orange peppers are better than green ones. But I will admit only in the last 10 years (of almost 40) I have gotten DH to eat the "better" lettuces.
Hilarious picture of the Don Jazzy. Nice assortment of vegies from the market.
-
Mema: I can't speak for the others, but I find it void of taste. But don't worry. For all I know, you feel it has an incomparably and exquisitely delicate flavor and aroma, and that's fine! No, really. Having been in on the Great Brussel Sprout Debate on another venue, I know there are a lot of foods that are more than slightly polarizing. Liver. Cilantro. Grapefruit Juice. And all of that boiled down to "People like different foods." The taste, the texture, and sometimes foods taste different to diffrent people.
-
Iceberg lettuce has less nutrition value with vitamins and micronutrients. I never buy it in the grocery store, I try to buy romaine, red lettuce, spinach, and kale. I know it is very high in water and that is good, but I prefer other greens.
Look what I found!

-
Jazzy, you are so bad!! Haha.
Mema, iceberg lettuce is just cellulose and water. Just as Goats mentioned earlier, it has little nutritional value and only offers a boost in fibers in your diet. It does make fast food hamburgers look a little healthier.
Mommy, you want to come over to my place too. You will get plenty of exercise cleaning our wooden floors both upstairs and downstairs. I can't seem to do them in one day anymore. Every time I clean the house, the thought of downsizing is very appealing. Tried Greek yogurt on apple last week for the first time and thought to myself why didn't I think of the combo sooner.
Marlannnnna...where arrrrrre you? You ok? Called me a fib, then you disappear.
Frey& Susan, hope you are ok also.
-
Jazzy, just saw your post above mine. Nice diagram.
Queenie- pate, cilantro, and grapefruit are all good.
-
Lover: you can have my pate, but I'll take my share of the cilantro and grapefruit. Anyone up for taking my oysters?
I didn't really want to touch the nutrition density question, not least because I don't know enough about it. And in fairness to the iceberg lettuce lovers (you can have my share of that!), nutrition density might not be of paramount concern if the diner's in otherwise good health and is eating a decent diet.
-
Oysters are disgusting. I love everything in salads but cilantro. That picture of corn silk and Donald hilarious. Had a wonderful time with DD1, DD2 and DD3! I am now bursting with fluid and can't wait to get tapped tomorow. Yay... just jam a straw in my gut and leave it - let it drain. Ibrance showed up today and right next to it a big bag of fresh picked greenbeans.. It made me laugh. I thought well did FedX supply dietary supplements for taking Ibrance with food? Turns out some friends left the green beans on the doorstep.. very sweet. Finally after asking for months and months Ibrance shows up. So we will see what happens. At this stage of the game probably nothing. Too little... too late.
Right now I need someone in the US Forest Service to release our cabin so the sale can go through. We have called 8 times, begged and heard nothing. It's like being held hostage. In the 8 years we have owned the place we never get a response from the district rep about anything- NEVER.. so if this sale falls through I will scream. Who needs this?? Enough already.
-
Oh my goodness!! I will eat both of your portions of oysters. You gals are missing out on the delicacy. I love them, especially the blue oysters. All you need is a squeeze of lime, hot peppers and a small glass of cold beer( preferably Heineken or Corona). My mouth is watery just thinking about it.
Jazzy, question...I bought some wild spinach for the first time a few days ago. Is it supposed to be powdery? The farmer claimed he doesn't use any pesticides on any of his vegetables. I can see some aphids/bugs on them so I am sure it's organic. We might have extra protein in our veggie dish tonight. Didn't expect wild spinach to look like weed. Ha

-
Loveroflife- so wild spinach is actually not really a spinach, but an edible green that is also a weed. I can have a dusty look to it. After I bought mine, I read about it so I understood more about it. The people that sold it to me said it is good with red meats, I made mine with eggs (quiche a few pages a go). Here is a link for you that talks a bit more about it. It is tasty stuff. No one there selling it today, or I would have bought more! It is nutrient dense and we like that!

Rose- I am glad you enjoyed the photo of Donald and the corn on the cob. It has had me laughing all day! Good to hear you had some good time with your DD's. The Ibrance along side the wild green beans. I know it is not easy to think anything may help at this point, but worth trying, yes? I hope you can get some of the fluid removed so you are more comfortable again.
Will someone cook those beans for you? I love to steam my beans and then marinate them in salad dressing for a green bean salad in the summer time.
-
Thanks Jazzy! It came out pretty good. I sautéed it with olive oil, garlic, and chili paste we smuggled in from Singapore(shhhh). Lambs quarter...interesting name. I'm serving it with pan-fried yellowtail snapper.
Rose, I don't have any connection with US Forrest Service or I will make the phone call for you. Buying and selling is such a stressful process-hubby is in the real estate business. We go through it every few years. Told my husband I just want a simple life, but the man is driven with a type A personality.
Why can't they invent something similar to the JP drain? If I remember correctly, traffic is really bad between your home and the hospital? Hope the drive tomorrow is not too stressful for you
-
Iceberg has no nutritional value. Maybe that was started by the Romaine folks. Come to think of it, that came out just as Romaine started to get big. Is this a conspiracy?
Why is it that no one has been able to convince the Donald that his hair is stupid?
Tang said she'd come back!
Rosie's back and she's gonna get a hUg dow dowa and your daddy's home or something.

I hate blue lines, my finger strayed, but I saved it HAH by a back and a C&P. I'm getting as good as chevy
-
Lover/Rose: great. sorting out who sits to whom. (Not that I've had experience with sorting out seating plans at family Thanksgiving dinners according to food preferences and imminence of divorce proceedings.) And taking notes on possible tempting foods.
Some sources of protein I don't wanna know about any more than I want to know how much cat spit I've ingested by drinking from the wrong glass on the bedside table.
-
EWWWWWWW.....I just had dinner!
-
Had a blue line this morning too. Fingers betrayed me. Sympathetic/parasympathetic dysfunction. That is what I get for laughing at those cute Fainting Goats. Still feeling guilty.
-
Sassy- why does Donald get it yet about his hair? Men never think they are unattractive, EVER! I am sure the wife du jour tells him he looks awesome too.
I found a group photo of the fam and everyone else has decent hair, what is his problem? He certainly can afford a good stylist?

-
Ogd, the gal in the blue dress has the leg cross. I would likely fall over. Definitely if I had to have heels on. Jazz we should send him a letter.
they're's so much name calling. Jackass chit I can't write stuff without forklifting autocorrect trying to make it the computer way. Who loads these computer libraries?
Is anyone having surgery to get rid of a tumor? Call me i can fix youUp.
-
Sassy- the girl in the blue dress is his daughter, Tiffany, with Marla Maples, which was wife #2 maybe? I saw a crockumentary on the Trump kids awhile back (maybe on HBO) and that all the of the NY kids are very mainstream with each other, work for their dads business for those old enough, etc. NYC kids are the ones with Invana and the current wife with the younger son. I guess after Maples divorced him, she moved to the west coast and Tiffany was raised there as a typical southern CA kid. I remember Tiffany being interviewed for the film and saying she was nothing like her siblings and not really accepted much by them either. Seems like the rebel in the group, and I like that!
Everything you wanted to know about the Trumps but were afraid to ask!
-
Sassy what on earth are you babbling about? What did that jiberish mean? Or are you talking about Chevy's Rosie from Vietnam? I am easily confused these days. Maybe I should be RoseV... to separate Chevy's Rosie... anything but RV since I am not a fan... I know they are popular but I have been mowed down the Mountain by crazed RV drivers nearly moving into your back seat. They scare me, road bullies. Watched more than one lose control and fall apart like a barbie doll house.. I really don't think they are made very well.
That was more then I needed to know about Donald.. I am kind of enjoying the drama it's so funny on TV. Does he really think he will be president of this country? You can not talk like he does to World Leaders because things get mauled in translation and there could be blood shed on loose words. Personally we think the contest will be Hillary and Jeb.. we had this discussion at the table recently with college DD2. But the voters have not spoken and it's anyones game right now. That's what is terrific about America.. a vote actually counts!
Love the name Fainting Goats for a little coffee, pastry and ice cream shop! Loverly.. I just want the whole thing over. ugh...
-
Got back from casino trip Tuesday night and am finally starting to feel human again. Will catch up on posts and tell you the whole story in the morning.
-
I can't read anymore! Going to bed. I'm 7 pages behind! Patty, hope when I get to the end (no such thing) you are home.
Yes, sassy, send it.
Night! Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
-
Pate, liver & oysters...... Yuk ! I am a admitted, picky eater. Love Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, broccoli, all lettuces...
BACON is my favorite bad food, avocados are my fav "good" food...BLT with avacado.....Yum..
Rose, glad to see YA here. I wanted to thank-you for your kind words, about 10-12 pages back....lol...
Patty, love YA girl !
Susan, Tang, Dutchie, Paws, 2nd......waving HELLO.....also Envera...
Feeling kinda blue..... We lost Blue Bird last year, about this time. I think about her, she was smart & witty.
-
Loverly.....I'm here! I worked a very busy 14 hour day yesterday and then my 8 hour shift today. The natives get restless when the temperature goes up. And you can have my oysters and any other bivalve mollusc you can name except scallops but those can't be anywhere near a shell. Like most of my stories from my college days, there's alcohol involved but all I'm going to say is that ice cold shots of vodka and seafood pad thai are NOT a winning combo!
Weighing in on the nutrition convo (pun intended), I will be the first to admit that I'm a starch addict which the celiac disease diagnosis has really helped cure. Even so, I have always eaten a lot of greens and fruit. I love the big tubs of organic spring mix. Breakfast is usually an organic Greek yogurt and a banana. I also used to have a cereal and milk addiction for which I probably should have gone to rehab or had an intervention. Thank Chevy's Dog that Cap'n Cruch with Crunchberries is made with corn and oats but that's usually my dessert and other than the sugar, it's pretty low in fat so not that bad on the scale of desserts.
Patty!!! Welcome home. Sorry about the back. I sympathize--my laying around after my chemo rounds has been doing the same to me.
Rose--hope you get some relief tomorrow and the Ibrance does work.
Hole--I'm with you on the pâté and liver. Ewww. And sweetbreads and any other organ meat. I'll eat broccoli but it's not my fave--probably because I ate so much of it growing up. Come to think of it, I still mostly eat it when I go to my parents for dinner.
Queenie--I'm always wondering how much dog hair I've ingested. I probably have a hair ball accumulating in my small intestine.
Sas--I've always wondered why Donald, with all his $$$$, doesn't just get implants and get rid of that ridiculous 'do.
Goats--my dad likes iceberg but my mom mixes in spring mix and just cuts it all up into small pieces. She used to use spinach but he was diagnosed with hemochromatosis so she stopped doing that. She's always inundating the poor guy with whatever new health discovery comes along. Oat bran was the worst--muffins, bread, cereal, granola, oatmeal and just the straight bran on cottage cheese.
-
hey Chevy--look what I found:

Maybe you can get hippie chicken girl to grow aloe vera on her side of the ditch
