So wonderful to see us all enjoying life and still doing cAncer. My trip for nephs graduation was a highlight of the year. Happy I could get on a plane and fly and be there for his special day. Off chemo for four and half weeks felt like a miracle. 👍😘. Lots of laughs, tears of joy and FOOD that tasted like food and not cardboard. Hah Life can still be sweet even in the cover of cAncer.

Vacations, concerts, new/old hobbies, special days with family...love hearing about them all!
I am co-hosting a coloring party on Saturday. We have about 12 adults signed up so far, bringing colored pencils, pens, crayons and coloring books! A few might also work on art projects. I wish you could join us Freygea!
-
Diana, lovely photo and it's so nice to hear you were able to enjoy your visit to the fullest!

Going to St. Maartens the end of June for a week. I'm a beach person and can't wait to dig my feet into the cool sand there. Lots of healing for me at the beach.

Hi all you ladies traveling for fun,
I, too, will be away the end of June. I am heading to Punta Cana with family and close friends. Looking forward to my toes in the sand with an umbrella drink in hand.
I need some advice. I have not traveled since diagnosis, and I am taking several prescriptions as well as supplements. How do you pack this stuff for the airport? Do you need to keep them in their bottles, put them in a pill box? Is there a protocol for international traveling when it comes to prescriptions? Any tips for keeping track of pill taking while on vacation? Thanks for your input!
-
When travelling I usually pack my supplements in plastic baggies since I take so many of them. I put each day's supplements in a seprate large baggie with smaller bags inside for each meal. So for a week I'll have seven large baggies with each large bag containing smaller baggie for the individual meals. For the prescriptions, I usually combine several prescriptions in one pill bottle. I put both the prescriptions and supplements in my carry on and have never been questioned for either international or domestic travel.
Enjoy Punta Cana. I heard it's great. And yes, I am also waiting to put my toes in the sand and having my banana daquiri on the beach.
-
Punta Cana. Sounds wonderful.
My travels were from CA to Minnesota so not international. I had all my prescription pills counted out (a few extra just in case) in one pill bottle and supplements in another in my purse. Masks, stuff to wipe down airplane seats etc.
I sent my clothes and stuff ahead to minnesota via ups so no carry on but I was traveling alone and needed the actualflying easy. Drink a lot of water don't want to get dehydrated. I took cereal bars too.
I wore my baseball hat. In Palm Springs they didn't have me take it off through security but in Minnespolis they did.
Have a wonderful time.

Thanks for sharing your trips and photos. I really enjoy seeing them. I'm not planning on any travels I just go into the city every week or so to play tourist and visit some of my old haunts.Last year at this time I was helping out with my daughter's wedding. Today DD and I made plans for her baby shower. We decided on a local Italian restaurant that has a couple of private party rooms. Then we went to a local bakery to order the cake. the kids have not discussed names for the baby yet, but his mother was very sweet by saying maybe they would name the baby after me. I couldn't help myself by telling her that was very sweet, but the Jewish tradition is to name after the dead, she was quiet for a moment and then recovered. she is not aware of my traditions as I m not aware of all of her family's traditions, well we are learning and the kids are doing well.

Charlotte,
Wishing your daughter and her whole family lots of mazel with the new baby. Being a grandma is fabulous. I recently found out the the Sephardim do name after the living! I guess naming after the dead is only an Ashkanazi tradition. Enjoy your summer.
Caryn -
We had an interesting situation with my first granddaughter. Our family (Ashkenazi) don't name after the living and our VERY strong family tradition is that the first baby is named for someone from the mother's family. Her family is Sephardi so they do name after the living. They very much wanted to name the baby for her grandmother (who is alive) so they spoke to their rabbi who said "It's done out of respect and love so give her that name".
Charlotte, enjoy the grandbaby. Grandchildren are THE BEST.

Here is a pic of the Paint by Number I am doing. I sleep with my lil Midgie (my chi) every night and basically in the same position. No wonder my dag neck hurts every morning.

That is a lovely picture. I have a chipin (chihuahua, min pin mix) and a pom. The Pom is not a snuggler but the chipin is.
Today was the last day of school. Students were dismissed a bit after noon. I then spent a few hours on some major packing up and rearranging of things in my classroom in anticipation of major changes related to technology. Report cards filed, tests data entered into data management system, and a hundred other things that we are required to do to get ready for summer break. Signed student year books, celebrated one last student birthday, hugged and kissed my newly minted second graders. Hit the wall by 3:30 but my room is not quite ready for deep cleaning and technology upgrades so I'll need to put in a bit more time tomorrow morning. Then I need to pack as our flight to Seattle leaves early Saturday morning. Alaska, here we come! -
Great picture!
Good news Caryn and have fun in Alaska.
jjski - for medication, keep it in the original bottle with the prescription information. I don't know about everywhere, but NZ and Australia certainly require that or they will confiscate the pills.
Have fun with all your travels, Ladies! And the colouring party sounds great!
-
I agree with kiwi. I carry all my medsin the correct prescription bottle. And carry on the plane.
-
As a seasoned traveler and former flight attendant I second Terre's advice. Keep all prescription melds in their original bottles. This not only the requirement in many countries, but should you have a medical problem or need an emergency refill the original bottle would be needed.
-
Thanks for the suggestions ladies! I will error on the side of caution, keep the scripts in their bottles and make up my baggies when I get there so I can have what I need with me when I'm out and about.
Fraygea, I would never have known that was a paint by number. Very nice. I know a number of painting by numbers places have sprung up in my area where you book a party and paint with a group. They are BYOB and are a very popular ladies night out.
Joanne
-
Paint by number party! How fun! Sounds like a great night out. May have to see if I can make it popular in NZ!
-
Love the paint by number Freyga. Looks beautiful. I remember doing them as a child and loving it, but nothing as intricate as what you are doing. It seems that it lost popularity for many years, but glad to see it's back. My mother and brother did a beatiful tray many years ago when he was very young. He still has it.
-
We need to all book a coloring party/paint by number cruise. We can make it a topless cruise as well..no wigs/caps/scarves/ Let it all hang out.
-
Now you're talking, Freygea!
Have a nice weekend everyone! Joanne
-
Leah and Caryn thanks for the info on the Sephardic naming practice, but i think the kids will come up with a good name for her, Freygeal great idea. there is a boat docked at 26st which is just an interesting rust bucket with a young crowd drinking beer, eating burgers and fries and lots of tables. for a free cruise we could try a speed coloring on the Staten island Ferry (short ride)

Ok Hubby is taking me out for a Pre Chemo dinner tonight. We are ordering a extra large salad, Rare Steak, (the rarest I can get) a cheese platter with Brie and blue cheese. Basically everything we can find that I am not supposed to eat once I start chemo next week. I am going to make sure I have lots of metal silverware and am NOT going to use hands wipes . I will of course steal the saltine crackers for future use.
-
Have fun at your dinner, Freygea! And good luck with chemo next week.
-
Freygea enjoy your pre cheno dinner tonight. But know that you will be having many wonderful dinners even during your chemo. And what, no dessert???
Good luck with chemo next week.
-
Frey, hope that meal is tasty. Exbrnxgrl, Bon voyage! NYCChutzpah, NYC is filled with so much to do around every corner. Would love to get back there for more sightseeing.
On Wednesday, dh and I spent the day in the Youngstown, Ohio area, about an hour north of us. First, we visited an absolutely lovely botanical garden. Drinking in that kind of beauty feeds my soul. (I told dh "let's pretend we're strolling the grounds of our estate",lol).
We also visited Youngstown's Steel Museum. Dh worked in a steel mill for 27 years, left it 10 years ago, so the museum was a walk down memory lane. The museum wasn't large, but Its extremely well designed, very nice.
I discovered labyrinths when I was doing chemo, seek them out now, and there was one in the vicinity, so we found it and walked it. As we were driving around, if we saw a beautiful neighborhood or a road we wanted to explore, we went in that direction. Dh was really having a good time, which in turn made me enjoy the day even more. Here's a few photos, two of the gardens andlast one is the labyrinth.
-
Wow..that looks awesome Mrs M. One of my friends is having a house built and they're going to put a labyrinth in the back yard. I'm invited when it's done!
Well...my fun lately has been fostering kittens. We're keeping one. He has a bad eye; got clawed by a sibling when his eye was opening and has been to the vet too many times to count. Last visit, they thought he was going to lose the eye, but today they did a more detailed exam and it looks like he won't lose it. They were really impressed at how well he's done! Now we just need to name him. He's the little tabby in the pic. Love his spotted tummy; everywhere else is striped.
In the mix, there were two ginger brothers; they went to a home together last weekend. Bittersweet, but looks like they went to a great home! I still have his two sisters for another week or so, then they'll be up to weight and off to new homes.
-
Kiwi love the cat photos. I know how rewarding fostering cats can be. So glad he's not going to lose his eye. We have eight cats, four of them were rescues. As you can imagine we never intended to have so many cats, but they are all unique and special in their own way. And they certainly provide much joy.
Divine love the pictures. I also love labyrinths. I've been to some churches that have them and find its one of the best ways for me to do a "walking meditation".
