Bird Watching Club

Lisa, it was so funny watching those cranes among their flowers. There are about 5 of them on a golf course that is very noisy as it is arranged around a small airport with Warbirds and Learjets. They are very laid back. If they are in the way of a golf cart they just trot briskly out of the way. They are so used to people. Occasionally they will make these cackling, clicking sounds and go off for a fly by.

Nancy, my 300mm is heavy, and my tripod is big so I only use it at home or for a car trip, so mostly I either rest it against something or on a wall or similar, or if its sunny I use a very high shutter speed so a little wobble doesn't matter. The Tamron zoom is great as it focuses internally which means that you can rest against the side of a tree for example and get it all positioned then focus as the outside does not move as its focusing.

Thank you ladies.I was thrilled. Its funny on NatGeo. The organizers generally have different ideas of what they like to the posters. They often like obscure dark photos of out of the way places while the posters like pretty pictures and nature.Sometimes you may like a photo but nobody else does. Then there are some that I dont like that much but others do.This one I did not originally post here as I did not think much of it but some seemed to quite like it.

Nancy, thank you for taking a look. It is fun once you get started and there are some amazing photos from all over the world on there Its a very positive and unifying experience as there are so many different cultures, nationalities, religions, races all sharing the same love of photography. (from the weird to the wonderful). Only problem is that its easy to spend far to much time just browsing on there!!

I want to take another pic of the green sax (without me). It is so pretty and I wanted to take a lesson or two, just for the breathing, but could not find what I was looking for near home at the time. As you know so well mastering the breathing is the crucial thing!! My general breathing has never been particularly good.

Was it the little egret and the gold scenery? I have that somewhere here I think.I will try and dig it out as its quite old. There is also another recent flying one over water.

I had a gap of about 6 months when I stopped posting all summer but it was nice to start again.

I don't like Facebook. I joined as I had a friend in England that invited me but never log in. It just seems really intrusive. It kept wanting to transfer all the photos that I keep on my computer to the web and sending me messages about people I didn't know!

Lizzysmom, I think the shot was the very one you just posted. I went back and looked again and this time I could see your pics in an easier format than the first time I looked. Not sure why that was.  I know it was towards the beginning and near the preening shot. There was another one that was a white egret with it's reflection. That one was next to the macro shot of the dragonfly's head but I do think it was the one you posted. Well enjoy your last days of vacation.

Yes, snowy owls have been seen during the day in the North Country. Unlike most owls, which are nocturnal, snowy owls are diurnal—they hunt and are active both day and night.

I hear barred owls at night.

I would so love to see one too!!

Teka- yikes on all that snow! I am talking to friends today in northern Cali who have to stay home from work as they are getting 8 inches of rain in the bay area and everything is flooding.

Husband and I heard and saw several flocks of canadian geese flying overhead after the December 9th through 11th snow storm.

Lisa, I am not sure what that bird is either. I will take a look in my Florida birdsbook in case there is anything simiilar there that prefers the warmer weather.
