2nd time-sorry about your mom....can't believe no one was called, that is ridiculous.

    Hole-how's hubby? ((hugs))

Nettie-happy birthday!! What did your parents cook for you? :)

My step-mother's mother is going into hospice care today. She is currently in a nursing home and has Alzheimer's. I don't know her well, but I'm very sad for my step-mom. She means alot to me, and has been a huge help and blessing to our family. Isabella and her are very close, much closer than my own mother. anyway, I know this is a hard time for her.

Had my zapp for the day and man is it hot out there. Everyone is kind of grumpy here today, dh and 2 dd's. Probably tired and stress, we are going half broke with me being on short term leave and having to drive to rads every day. It sucks, but I know soon it will get better.

    ((hugs)) to everyone!

Tang - I forgot to tell you how cute your daughter's birthday party sounded. My 27 year old still loves My Little Pony. Check around with the guests/parents see if anyone got some cellphone shots. I did the Chuck E Cheese's one year but I still remember best the jungle party on the back porch.

Sorry to hear about your step mom's mom. I know how close step parents can be. I had 3 step dads from high school on (2 predeceased my mom - why I had 3). All 3 of them special in their own way. How far do you have to drive to rads? At times the clouds today are dropping our temps some. You may have more clouds on your side of town. But we cannot complain. At least it's not 110 like in 2011. How many zaps left?

Did I miss it - is your drain out yet?

Hugs back atcha'. I think I need some iced tea. I forgot DH had lab work this morning. Made the usual amount of coffee - I put it on timer. So I've slugged down more coffee than usual. Shoulda made some coffee ice cubes. Maybe I'll put on a small pot and do that. Sounds good. DH will think I've lost my mind. I can hear it now.

Yes my drain is out! I'm still having pains though, I'm thinking this is a scar tissue problem. I have terrible scar tissue :(

I drive from Royse City to Mesquite...about 24 miles each way. The bad part is the truck I drive is a gas guzzling monster!! We did find gas in Mesquite for 3.19, so we got close to 3/4 of a tank for $40. My truck is Ford F-150 it is a '99 and I'm soooo over it!

So, I was invited to attend a work function/dinner next Monday. My department won an award and it is a big honor for our company. I would have to fly to Missouri, stay over night and leave early the next morning. I was all for it, until I found out that I'm gonna need a doctor's release to do it. It's a hassle to get and not to mention now this added issue with my step mother's mom being in hospice I'm not sure it is a good time to go. My step-mom takes care of Isabella when I have to go out of town for work. Not to mention that this trip will probably kick my a$$ with fatigue.

I hate to tell them no though, when I was dx'd in October I had only been working since July with the company. Anyway, I guess I'm kind of asking wwyd...anyone? I'm leaning toward no at this point.

Oh LMG-I'm drinking coffee this afternoon too lol. Dh got me a Green Apple Tea at QT earlier, no likey!!

No Blondie.... It is Assisted Living....  Quite expensive also.....  But SHE can get around by herself, whereas her DH that lives 2 doors down can walk, but uses a wheel-chair most of the time.... He will be 94 soon.... She is only 90 and sharp as a tack!

Do you want me to send you some books?  I mean I will, and the postage is nothing, which I would pay!  What kind of books do you like?  Damn Library!

Honest!  Let me know.... You want a scarf too?

I guess I'm surprised it's only 24 miles from Royce City to Mesquite. Dang. Couldn't they have found something in Rockwall/NE Garland.

That is quite a haul for an overnight trip. All expenses on them? Fly out of Love Field or DFW? Playing devil's advocate. Will not going hinder your job advancement? Will going aide your job advancement? If a toss up would prob. stay home. When does DD's school start? How will going mess around with rads schedule? About hospice, your the best judge of your step mom's mom declining health. Is she eating/drinking/up out of bed at all? Anyone else that could fill in in a pinch? Can you get Izzy some special things to keep her busy if step mom goes to NH - cheapy stuff from Dollar Tree/Michaels? That only is available for those trips? How is your strength for the traveling? Think our forecast looks crappy for the weekend 100s. Rain maybe (fingers crossed) late next week - hah don't hold your breath. (OO weather on now. Record from 2011 - 108 degrees.)

I'm convinced that any surgery will never not hurt in some form. I had a goat kick my in the stomach a couple of months ago - hit the one spot that still hurts - yes from C section 27 years ago. I would prob. strangle any that got near my boob.

I've yet to make that tea. Reheated the coffee again.

    Blondie (((HUGS)))

The trip is paid for and it is actually out of Mckinney airport, the company has their own planes. lol...probably sounds fancier than it really is. I will get an update on the hospice thing either tomorrow or Wed, so that will help my decision. I don't have anyone else that can help with dd and I would have to miss at least one rads appt, possibly two.

I don't think that it would have any true affect on my career, I just feel that it would look good if I were there, ya know?

And yes, I asked about Rockwall, that would have been much closer. There is a TX Oncology in Rockwall, but no Radiation there.

Anyway, this isn't the biggest problem in the world..just one of those things.

It's been a weird day, long and draggy.

2nd. sorry about your mom, it is so hard to leave our loved ones in someone Else's care. We have my MIL in a great place, but we are there often and visit at all different times, I think they are given better care when they get to know the family. I find it so sad, when people don't get visitors, we also advocate for other residents, always in a nice way. They always seem happy to see us. My husband also volunteers one day a week.                                                                              Happy birthday, Nettie, hope it was a great day!                    Luv, I'm fine, just typed that one in the wrong thread, so I deleted it. Meant it for radiation gals. Feeling really tired and sore, 20 of 33 done, so I'm getting there. Haven't been sleeping well and I find it funny, that on an insomniacs thread you ladies are so alert and can remember all of the names and topics, you girls are great. Thanks for asking. Stephanie

Stephanie - Don't remember so much.(Edited to add) I think we're just great at faking it. I'm drooping and ready for bed. Coffee did nothing for me today. Usually just stay on the page I'm on and maybe back one page. I'm on a PC so can go back and forth some. Those visits sure help the staff keep on their toes. I was a hospice nurse and saw many pts who had no visitors even with family I knew was in town and healthy enough to visit. So you have 20 of 33 done, getting there. Thirteen is what another 2.5 weeks or so. How's your skin holding up? (((Hugs)))

Tang - missing one appt is no big deal. They do it all the time for holidays. I see a lot of people who have equipment that is "down" and sometimes for several day. Never had that happen with mine. There were 2 identical machines nearly side by side and another one down the hall I never saw - think it was used for different kind of rads. This place treated all kinds - head/neck, abdominal, prostate. It was huge down in hospital district. There is another one over at Harris Methodist Hospital a friend went to. I bet this has a tunnel that connects it to Baylor All Saints - about a block away. Harris is a honeycomb of tunnels.

Nettie, the earrings & flowers are beautiful.....

    Sounds like a great day.

DH is getting a little stronger, he has had home health both days he has been home, just for vitals, blood work & change the dressing on the pic line. I did the antibiotics today, it looked good to me. I left for golf at 5:30, DS was here. The IV line to the antiboctics came out...opps, screwed something up. DH & DS got through it with some phone guidance from home health.

It's amazing how a situation like this just exhausts you. I feel like I did after chemo. I have to force myself to get stuff done. Then the phone is ringing non stop, insurance will not approve some pain meds.

Golfing tonight was good for me. I was only gone an hour & a half. We zipped around the course fast.

Patty, happy your pain is gone, hope the nausea gets better.

2nd, hang in there....such a big adjustment. Hope the facility works out.

Tangadang, the trip sounds inviting, but sometimes it's not worth the hassle/effort. If your DH was off work, and yOu did not have to jump through hoops getting a release form, then I could see really considering it. Then you would also have to worry about the flying issue/lympdema.

I have not flown yet, I am supposed to go to NYC in 3 weeks. You had so many nodes removed, way more than me.

OK I will never catch up--I read posts 2x and my mind is still saying what did I just read and who said what. So I'm going to just do what I can.

Hole I'm glad some comes for u'r DH, what a time he is having--I'm so sorry.

Nettie those earrings are so pretty--good taste, well he married u right.I love u pics. And u had a great BD.

Blondie this is BD week for u right? Everyday treat u'r self like crazy. Oh and Chevy's scarves are so pretty, she sent me 2 and they are neck scarves and I've worn them quite a bit and got such nice compliments too, but I do admit I do war scarves to hide my no boobage, cuz pretend bras just hurt. One of them is shorter but I put it toward the side on top and put a pin there and one is purple-love and the other  is black/white --Just thought I'd let u guys know.

Wow some of you are really having hot weather, it hasn't been bad here so far--raining now with some thunder but my cat is with me so it's not going to be a bad storm.

I did work today and that's it--wasn't to busy, so I was happy---I don't know why I get so knocked out with one day of going out. I have so much fun with my friends but yet when I get home I can barely move and I'm all swollen, my LE really acts up.

OK Now I forgot who might be traveling to MO---I don't think it makes a difference missing a few rads, cuz I know at one point I couldn't lay down cuz I'd cough cuz I had a super bad sinus infection, so I waited for like 3 days to continue. But flying u might have to wear compression garments cuz LE comes at any time, which I found out--I thought I escaped it--but I'm no expert so don't go by me. On the other hand it might feel good to just get away. I'm absolutely no help, am I???

Oh see I forgot everything else---but I'm sure I told u we got lost going there and coming home (usual) so our day was an hour longer, but LOLing more, I have to say tho those planes (O'Hare airport) were so low I would go crazy living around there they looked like they were going to hit us, and we're ducking our heads like that would keep us safe. When u find u'rself at the airport u know u'r lost so that was a big clue for us.  And we ended up there on the way home?????/we have no idea how except we can't follow directions. Never could.

OK I hope I can sleep tonite I did a good job today doing that, and this weekend is yet another party, but this one I just sleep there, but I hope the weather is good. So expect some more knock out time for me. LOL

hIO if the insurance denies anything make sure you appeal it. If it was given in the hospital it's a little late to say no. And I'm sure the docs asked you first if it was ok!  Insurance can be so dumb!

Everyone, get some sleep if you can and have a good day tomorrow.

    Morning girls!

Nettie...... I first thought "Oh no, stolen ear-rings!"
Yep, he stole them from Kenmark or somewhere! SAH! That stands for
    sureashell..... He pulled a heist!

But they ARE lovely... and so are the flowers and the
    kids!

HIHO... So glad your Husband is still alive after being in
Son's care! Those things happen you know...... It's your nerves... these
problems all take a toll on you, and make you exhausted.

Okay, talk to your Docs, about substituting other meds for
the ones they prescribe! SOMEtimes, if they know you need help, they will even
give you samples.... Or ask for generics when they prescribe
    something...

My Doc had samples out on the desk one time, and I
kiddingly asked, "Oh, are these free?" Because it was Advair, and those are
    expensive, and not a generic......

So when I was leaving the Nurse said do you WANT one? And
I said Yes, before she could even THINK about it.

    Morning LilGoats, Tang and 3333333333rd!

Yes HiHo! Smarty is being well........ "Smart" here! She
is right! Just stay on those Docs and your insurance.... they like a good fight
    once in awhile...

Blondie and Cammi are just sleeping when I am getting
UP! But I'm normal.... I sleep really well.... so far!

Enerva.... I have never even SEEN a picture of those
birds...! So pretty! You must be our resident "bird-watcher" like I am the
    resident Chicken-sitter!

Well, I KNOW some of you are up..... probably up ironing
or something.... It took me 2 weeks to iron 4 shirts of his! I hid them in
the back of the closet.... THAT should fix him.

Morning Owlies, Nettie happy Birthday! sounds like a wonderful few days :)

Hi1, sorry your having difficulties. It happens. They'll reinsert it. Generally, a picc is the IV route of choice, but they are more difficult to manage. Docs and nurses will deny it, but they are. For the very reason that it came out is the biggest problem. The are not secured the way standard IV's are secured. They are prone to coming out. Not sure if they would even consider a port, but it's worth the question. Might be that the wouldn't approve it b/c a nurse would have to do the antibiotics b/c a port is considered a central line. Also, b/c it's a Staph infection another implanted device may be contraindicated(against best practice)

If they have told you that you have to learn how to do this. That's simply not true. If you tell them you can't b/c of fear and the problems related to introducing another infection etc. they have to comply. You are not a licensed professional. You may have to get an intermediary to get that message across. If you have a lawyer to consult with DO IT, please. There are KEY phrases, that if you use them, they have no choice legally.

Patty on the nausea thing. You are making assumptions that it's related too not using your pain meds. It's a very logical assumption. The safest thing is ask your pain med doc. On the flip side, I experienced a very low level nausea with my antidepressant/fibromyalgia drug for a very long time. I used it to my advantage. It took my appetite away. I lost 30. lbs with it. But I new what was happening, therefore, no concern.

The other thing that it could be is a change in gastric juice production i.e acid. You could alter your diet. Drop acid producing foods. Google that phrase, it will bring up a list. Compare that to your diet and see what you can eliminate. Coffee is a huge offender. Try to notice if you experience nausea increase after a particular food. Google BRAT diet and try it for one-two weeks. If you see a difference YAY. Avoid the offending foods.

If dietary changes make no perceivable difference see a gastro doc. Do not self dx, please. They could suggest and endoscopy to rule out a physical cause. That's very reasonable, a best practice approach.. Then they could suggest an acid blocker. BUT please remember aaaaall drugs have consequences. For example, the proton pump blocker(PPB) Prevacid that's available over the counter(OTC) now, can reduce bone density.

Take a look at the side effects ofyour other drugs through dailymed.nlm.gov .

Millions take the acid altering drugs by prescription or OTC . Altering diet to reduce acid is the very best thing you can do as a first approach.
