INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

windows 8 just looks different. thinks aren't where they used to be. It's not bad once you get used to it - oh and people like me who are used to going in and making changes to "stuff" can't do it as easily anymore..... Yeah, I know - they're trying to save me from myself, but sometimes I just don't want to be saved...On a different note, I just went and bought my 3rd expandable hose. Now I have one permanently attached to every outside water spigot. I love those hoses. I bought a ceramic pot for each one, and they coil right into place. Now I don't have ugly hoses hanging all over the place!!!
We are having company this week, so finally broke down and bought a shower curtain for our second bathroom. We'll probably take it off after they leave, as that is where I take baths. We always shower in the bathroom off our bedroom, so haven't needed a shower curtain 'til now.
Yesterday we bbq'd ribs, and had left over potato salad. It was a nice EASY dinner. Today we're going to the horse track and will eat there. I really really like easy!!
My purse broke, so I have to make a new one this week. It lasted a long time. I bought it online back when I was working and didn't really mind spending so much for a purse. It was made in India by Anusckha (probably misspelled). Anyway, I loved it - it was handpainted and I love color. Anyway, I bought some fabric and once I finish it, I'll post a picture. but it'll be boring compared to my old one.

Chevy, most dogs can swim, some can't. Even so, they should have a PFD on so if they do fall in, it would hold up their head in case they got tired Or can't swim.
Big fresh water lake near me. Mans Yorki fell off. Man jumped in. Neither had PFDs. Dog was saved, man drowned.
-
Oh wow! that's terrible! I myself am terrified of a lot of water! I know I wouldn't take my dog in a boat, even when I had her.... Her fur/hair would have sunk her for sure! Okay.... Life Jackets for everyone/thing!
I'll have to tell my DD in Orlando, because they are always going out on some lake~ If I can't touch the bottom of the lake or beach, I just panic!
-
GG I like those purses with that name, they are usually so different and pricey.
Susan, now I forgot--did u make the sweater, well whoever made it it's is absoluetly beautiful.
FBB I can't believe u'r on that tiny boat thingy, and isn't it called dog paddle for a reason???
And to much computer talk for me, I'm simple folk that just gets buy from day to day.--
It feels hot to me today but that doesn't mean anything, I don't like heat, even tho I'm a hot mama, the heat I hate.
-
yeah. Cami
They are all pretty, but as you say, they are pricey so I don't see myself buying another anywhere in the near future....
-
Busy Beaver Owlettes today.
Chevy - I was disappointed in the NASCAR race. I was all settled down for a lot of viewing time. Sorry the rain ended it early.
Spookie - that wirehaired terrier we had. We took him out in a John boat. Stupid dog stepped off into the water. He did have on a harness and lead so DH hauled him back in. Don't know if he could swim or not. My rattie loves water until it's bath time. She has her own wading pool in the backyard. The chow mix we had not so much.
Susan - such talent. Love the baby sweater. Sorry you feel bad and might not go to DD. The rotten tomato toss sounds like fun. Do you wear goggles?
Blessings - I hope you get into see doc tomorrow. Isn't getting old a pita? You might tally up concussion sx so doc has something to work with. But get some rest tonight - OK!
Took DH to walk in clinic on July 4th with acute Achilles tendonitis. He had to call into work but was thankfully off this weekend. Put him on Naproxen and Keflex. He'd been taking Advil but the Nap. has worked so much better (it does nothing for me). Actually started feeling better that evening. I think he is good to go for work tomorrow.
GG - I think you spelled the handbag name perfectly. I looked them up and they are beautiful. Have you ever wanted to stop someone on the street and ask them where they got their handbag? I've wanted to but never have. Purses are the very hardest thing for me to buy, 2nd only to shoes. I am not the kind to change purses for every occasion, maybe for church but prob. not. Just give me a nice serviceable black one kinda med. big. (no Cami no making that into what it's not, I know your mind).
I'm about to plant myself on couch and watch PBS for the evening.
-
luv, I find one i like and use it exclusively until it's completely worn out. I think I can probably fix this one so it'll work for me a bit longer, but will also make myself a purse. This handbag has lasted a long time. Very well made, so I might convince myself they are worth the cost, but I simply hate spending the money on it.
-
yeah goats, we wear goggles...I wish I had goats....we actually have a new resident in our yard. A carrier pigeon ....I thought he was bringing me a message from one of you!!!!!!! But he didn't
. He is staying with us on our property...lol very friendly. Comes up to the back door. I told him he can't come in. Trying to make friends with our dog....she is confused . He can fly, but he was apparently domesticated. Need to call someone and see who he belongs to. I am not going to try to get him to climb on my hand to read his tag...maybe hubby will do that...but right now, he is very happy.
Meet Pedro
-
Hi Susan, I used to have homing pigeons. The serious racers usually don't want them back. His band will probably have his birthdate and owners initials on it. The guy who got me into racing birds said a lot of guys will kill their birds if they come back with wet or dirty feet. Meaning they landed somewhere. A big no-no in the bird racing world.
Feed him and he's yours!
-
really FB. We have been feeding him...and special food cause we were worried. Will he make it through the winter...or are they put in some kind or warming cages....oh boy...the animals are growing. They think we r starting a zoo?lol
-
anybody watching tv tonight ???????
-
my hubby raced pigeons for years and years and was VERY serious. He was always very happy to get his birdies back. Sometimes the birds just have to land. Most pigeon racers love their birds and are happy to have them come home - late or not.
-
ok we will make a few phone calls. Would they tell me if they would kill them ? Cause I would tend to it if that was his fate...how do I check the tags. You know I will have to touch him and I don't want to hurt him. Thanks for all your help..Pedro appreciates it too
-
Hi owlies, lol and serious things. BLESSINGS continued thoughts regarding fall recovery. Hate falls. Had too many.
Thanks everyone for computer talk. Learned allot. Enough that I will proceed to set up.
Lots of great patriotic shows have been on. Ken Burns civil war documentary is always a great viewing. Then there was a a show on Linclon' s Gettesburg speech and analysis.
Susan when we have time would like to discuss Grand Rapids common people. Hope you made your visit and furbaby better
Nettie great pics. I think it is this week that you are trialing no massage. Good luck on your analysis.
Maddy thanks again, Spookie talk tomorrow. Chevy Steve is not facing reality. Sorry forget who said you are just being a good person. Ditto everything they said. Blue your life's work has been so much fun. Teka where are you. Smarrty are you on a break from here? Dbf and I had a bit of a fight, unusual. Kind of shocking really. Pepper
......sassy
-
Yes, sas, this will be the first week without any kind of appt. No massage, no chiro!!! Kind of nervous. Hope you see feeling better.
I've loved reading all the computer talk and the pigeon talk. We raise them also, not for facing, we use them to train our bird dogs, we don't hurt them, mostly we use feathers that fall out. I love to watch them fly.
And chevy, you must have the patience of job to help your pita neighbor.
Hugs to all who need them. I'm still having these random bad smells...it's so weird when you smell something awful and it's coming from nowhere.
-
Just saying hello. I read here often but don't post much these days. I should be sleeping but I am being productive. Hugs to those that need them.
-
hi sass, no break just been reading and sewing, got two more dresses done and a third one cut out. Had my sister try it on and she wants one now. I'll sew it up for her birthday. Blessings, hope your head is better. Tang, are you doing better? Teka, your painting done yet? I've got my dgd coming over to paint the bathroom, she owes me for her wedding dress. Susan, love the sweater, haven't tried making cables yet. I need to see if I can find some more coffee pics. Ran out. Most of you should be in bed by now. Night. Oh-I'm thinking of starting a new thread like TE troubles only to do with implants. That seems to be missing on BCO. Night now.
-
Guess I'm all alone here tonight. Having a terrible night but actually glad everyone else is sleeping.
-
Nettie, you're NEVER alone.... Well, maybe sometimes.... but just go ahead and talk, we'll all find you sooner or later...
Smarty, I used to sew all the time... When I worked for Pepsi, as a demonstrator I made 17 jump-suits.... They were so CUTE, and I was much younger and cuter myself.... Ha, ha!
Do you sew just for yourself, and your Sister, or do you sell your creations?
You made a WEDDING DRESS? Good Lord girl, you ARE good! I made our DD's little flower-girl dresses, but that was years ago also...
Morning LittleDutch! It's okay to just read.... but how are you doing?
I don't know a Pigeon from a Sparrow, hardly... But they sound very friendly! They MUST be able to stay warm in the Winter? Because we have a LOT of Pigeons on tops of peoples houses, and I don't think they are tame, OR trained!
Sassy, I think Steve is just dreading the inevitable... He told us one time that his Mom is just one step away from losing everything... So I think he will let her stay there, awhile longer... I mean her DH is in a Home, and so far he and his wife can look after her....
I've known Steve and his Brother since they were little kids... His Brother was a hell-raiser, but finally married, had kids, got divorced, and was seriously searching for love on the Internet... Found one, they bought a house, then split up..... Found another one, and HE had a heart attack in the gym! They were married... She took care of him, but then he needed a heart-transplant! He finally GOT one, and was doing great...
But then he got cancer in his lymph-glands? And the chemo just took him out.... His heart couldn't take it....
So that whole family has been through some rough times... THEN his wife now has brain cancer..... doing chemo.... but she isn't doing very well... She also used to always be over at Theresa's!
I'm surprised none of YOU were! I mean she had everyone ELSE taking care of her!
Maybe that's why I stay kind of close to her.... It looks like she is outliving all her care-takers...
Funny picture Susan! Such a BIG puppy! So much to love!
LittleGardens! I HAD one of those hoses once.... I had a nozzle on it that I could turn the water pressure down...... DON'T DO that! After a couple minutes, it blew the hell UP! I mean it scared me 1/2 to death! I dropped that darned thing, soaked me completely, and threw it away... Ha! Yours sounds so neat & tidy!
Are these the purses you mean?
Here is a web-page of a zillion of them!
I've been using my Betsey Johnson purses! I love the cloth ones! The lighter, and smaller the better... for me anyway... I can get them at Ross... it's like a 1/2 price store...
LittleGoats! Me too! I mean SO MUCH RAIN~! You guys in Florida are probably all getting on your own Life Vests now! The race just couldn't get going, it seemed like... Glad Kurt cam in 3rd at least....
Almirola is kind of a new kid.... I mean you don't hear much about him, so glad he won!
Susan.... just keep your little Pigeon.... He/she will probably "call" for a mate! I'll bet your dog will get used to him!
-
Susan, most racers are used to being handled. That's not to say they like it and he will startle when you try to catch him. But you won't hurt it. I suspect he's last years or a recent year bird and this may be one of his first races.
And it is worth trying to call if there is a number. Most times there is not. And I think they would tell you if they wanted the bird back or not. He might have gotten lost on a training flight and might live close to you. Personally, I would at least like to hear where a bird has been even if I didn't want to drive 300 miles to get it. LOL
It sounds hokey, but you can build a simple trap with a stick tied to a string holding up a big box. Start putting food under there. Or if he seems very tame or slow a blanket or towel thrown over him is an option.some people wet birds with a hose spray and they have trouble lifting off. Or a pole net like a crabbing net can be used.
Pigeons can take cold weather. He won't freeze.
-
hi dutchiris!
Wren, he is a shiba inu. Good eyes!
-
Good Morning Owlettes!
I am too many pages behind to count, but I wanted to drop in with well wishes for all. I hope everyone is on the upswing and having a great summer so far. Mine has been cray cray as the kids would say. And school starts 4 weeks from today!
Have a great week ladies!
Here is a picture ONE of you ladies emailed ME a while back. I guess she wanted it posted!!!! Nature is beautiful! I guess this could be Vinnie in Ziggy's flower garden!
-
Owlies good morning. 1:15 pm wake up here. Smarrty smiling about all your activity. Dutchy ditto to Chevy , short check-in every once and awhile chickie, puleese. So far the ground here is managing the rain water fine. Most rain in twenty some years.
Going to set up new computer. Let's see how far I get before I yelp.
After affects of stones still uncomfortable. Very.
Hugs to everyone that needs them. Sassy
-
Well, DH was up to his tricks again last night, so I did boot him out of the room, however, it was only after a nasty argument that left me so keyed that I never went to sleep, and I mean really never closed my eyes!! So today is just kind of passing by in a blur!
I did tell him that if it happened again, he would find all of his "stuff" in another room and he would have NO reason to enter "our" room again! We'll see how it goes!
-
Oh Good Job Nettie.... I don't know what he DID, but if it upsets you, just tell him to hit the road Jack, even if it is into the other room!
I just hate, when we get so upset, there is no way of going to sleep! Just turn on the TV.... You have one in your bedroom, right? And fix yourself a snack, and watch some stupid program until you get tired. If you LAY there, thinking about it all, you will NEVER get to sleep!
Then don't even bring it up the next morning! You have to simmer awhile, and calm down. THEN when things are a little calmer, calmly tell him he is a no-good jerk for the way he acted, and you will not take that kind of behavior AGAIN, or you will make sure his sleeping arrangements are altered big time.
Damn people! These Husbands can just be a PITA sometimes!

-
44444444, hahaha, Vinnie in ziggy's flower garden.
Good afternoon everyone. I hope you are not yelping Sas.
Hot day again, yuck! Hope everyone is doing ok today. Anyone throw their new computer out the window yet ?
Hugs to all......
-
Chevy I love the way you say what you are thinking ! You go lady !!! I bet your dh is properly trained. Lol. And thanks for using pita again for context.
SAS - hope you stone pain leaves ASAP.
2nd. Did you have an interview today ? Couldn't remember date and to lazy to look back. Lol.
Nettie / I bet dh was very surprised of your reaction. You def got his attention, now tell him what you need.
I had a pain mgmt appt today. Scheduled rfa for right side thoracic area. So praying it gives me the same relief it did when I did it in lumbar area. If I have to be stage 4, damnit I wanna do like a million things before I die. Sitting on couch watching tv in major pain is not on the list.
Hope all you ladies are having a great afternoon.
-
Susan, as FBB said, racing pigeons are used to being handled somewhat. If you really like the bird, if you can locate the owner, just ask if it's ok for you to keep it. He (most pigeon flyers are men) might just say "yes"..
The number on the band is his registration number. It does not have a phone number on it, rather it identifies the pigeon, the club that pigeon's owner belongs to, and the year it was hatched. The most interesting part of tracking down the owner is finding out where the bird came from. We had some pigeons wander in from as far away as Utah, California and Canada (well, Canada isn't really that far from us), but it was still kinda fun tracking them down. The biggest worry that pigeon breeders have when their birds get lost is that they've been spending time with wild birds and have contracted some kind of illness that might endanger the rest of their flock (but don't worry - they don't transmit to humans). this is the number of the AU (American Racing Pigeon Union) 405-848-5801 (It's in Oklahoma, I believe). they might be able to help you in your search.
-
Paws not yelping yet. If I learn what it's teaching me, it'll be great fun.
Yay Nettie
