Owlies - no personal replies tonight.... I just fell again. Ever since my big fall on vacation (head injury), I've been wobbly, unable to walk a straight line, fall easily, and my fine motor coordination sucks. I usually use my cane wherever I go these days.
I just went into the bedroom with a load of clean sheets, stepped on the edge of a pillow sham, and just that slight unevenness was enough to send me crashing to the floor.
Slammed my hip into the floor, twisted my knee, and crunched my elbow into the nightstand.
The doc I saw the same day of the fall did mention whiplash but not definitive for concussion. I didn't have any of the standard symptoms, anyway.... I could have blacked out for maybe a minute, but after that, pupils were fine, no nausea, no vomiting, no dizziness, no vertigo.
But two weeks later and I can't stand up straight, and nearly fall several times a day. Something isn't right. Time to see my favorite doc, I think....
Two steps forward, three steps back... grrrrrr.
-
Blessings, Could you have an inner ear infection?
-
Hi, notself.... Great suggestion.....but it's not likely. Haven't had any dizziness, vertigo, nausea, or vomiting. What I have is imbalance, where I can't tell which way the floor is tilting. I did have a bad fall two weeks ago where I fell back and slammed my head into the floor. I don't recommend it.
I do have five different vestibular issues, though...
1 - BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, or crystals in the fluid of the inner ear)
2 - Migraine-Associated Vertigo - no headaches, only aura, complicated by stress
3 - Mal de Debarquement, or Debarkment Syndrome, where if I am on a moving object, my brain can't tell when I get on solid ground again
4 - Visual/Oculomotor Processing Disorder - my brain doesn't recognize what my eyes see. If I turn my head quickly from side to side, I get double vision
5 - Left sided neurological damage of unknown cause.... makes me fall to the left every time!
I was misdiagnosed with "Atypical Meniere's" about 15 years ago, and for a while was so bad off I used a cane or a walker everywhere I went. And if I was too unsteady, I used a wheelchair.
My undergraduate degree is in Audiology, and I was part of a forum of people with vestibular disorders, and I was NOT going to accept the "Atypical Meniere's" diagnosis without a fight!
So I researched and researched, and did eliminations of various triggers, and finally got things under control almost ten years ago. Then I met a wonderful new ENT who had specialized in Meniere's Disease. I told him his colleague had dx'd me with "Atypical Meniere's" and he just about blew a gasket.
"THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ATYPICAL MENIERES!!!" He yelled. "THAT'S JUST THE DOCTOR'S WAY OF SAYING THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU, SO THEY GIVE YOU A GARBAGE DIAGNOSIS!"
Wow... cool!
So I presented my research, he ordered a few more tests, and confirmed everything I had proposed.
I was SO happy to not have this disequilibrium as a problem for so long... then whammo! Hit my head on the stupid floor, and here I am again.
Will be seeing my PCP on Monday, I think.
Thank you for thinking of me, notself!!!

Sassy and Blessings, PLEASE BE CAREFUL! Take it easy.
Sassy, is it common for the pain to come back? You can't seem to catch a break.
Same goes for you Blessings. Really concerned for you. Please consider seeing docs, if not tomorrow (kinda difficult to see the appropriate specialist on Sunday), can you get Monday same-day appt? Can DH help? Ensure nothing in your walking path at least? Hoping tomorrow is pajama day, church can wait one week (so it's not another possible dangerous situation). (And don't reply, just read if you can).
Nettie, pretty lady! DD gets her beautiful looks from you! The hair situation will only get better. Love your dog, those eyes are amazing! What kind?
LMG, glad the mudflaps are gone. Besides the esthetics, seemed like a bit of lymph fluid was sneaking in and slightly painful, maybe even some kind of nerve damage? Removing the skin and tissue took away some pain. Not happy with the huge long scar but will take that over pain. Besides I can cover my Franken-back.

Blessings, so sorry , I hate falls. They just wreck havoc. That tilting description. Either you have said it here, or just read it with something. I will try and think of it. Anyhow it is t pretty specific. Great when you have a doc that won' t give a garbage diagnosis and they listen.
Blondieeee how are you? It's always something. Fix something, something else goes kafluey. Or bunches.
Okay owlies, everyone's going to laugh @ me. I've just -seen that the Kindle keyboard has all the symbols from the second keyboard in the same box. I never noticed them. I held the e key down kind of long and a 3appeared. Focused on all the keys. All the symbols are there. Wonderful. Probably in the directions I never read.
Lmg 400$., but I'll wait a bit to set it up. It was tough today with the bladder thing. I took a diuretic to help flush the bladder and drinking oodles of water. Peeing lots. It's working. We're those symbols really there all this time?
-
Maddy it's worse than you know. But I won't start on that. Hugs and more hugs.
Oh the dogs are good. The house is very soundproof. They are calmly laying. I know there nervous ticks. I will give them the valium if need be. No hesitation on that one. All the fireworks are way less because of all the rain. If it was nice last night they would of had the valium early dusk. Tonight they started , but only lasted about a half hour. Not to worry I will protect my babies.
-
so Sassy, if you drink tons, does that get the RAI out of your system faster? Like chemo?
-
Maddy not for what I receive it for. With thyroid cancer there is only remnant pieces and the thyroid bed. The majority was excreted in the first 4 days. But there's enough in those tissues to activate an alarm for 3 months.
Hyperthyroidism/Graves disease it as you are thinking.. Takes along time for it to be excreted. Think of the two problems as Apple's and oranges.
This sucks!.
-
sas...so sorry you r going through this...and for to many days :; hope you can get some comfortable sleep tonight
Blessings, take care of yourself and be careful. Falling stinks, and it, as you know, can cause worse problems..hope your balance is better tomorrow..it is scary when you can't see the floor right. We take walking for granted, but it isn't easy when the floor is moving !!!!!!!
Chevy, you are a good neighbor
. When my mother in law had her brain cancer, the only way we got her out of the house was to tell her she had to come by us for the weekend so we could take care of her after she had a fall. We kept her her and never let her go back. Italian too...100%...she never showed she was happy with us, very independent lady, but I knew she was.....I am sure she was mad she couldn't live alone, but not mad at us...just the circumstances .. Hope Steve does what's best for her.
Beautiful pic Nettie
Him everyone else. Hope you all had a good weekend
I am nervous about going to Grand Rapids Michigan on Monday. About a 4 hour drive. But i just haven't felt that great lately...can't get over this fatigue....so I am not sure I will take the drive. Really want to spend time with my daughter, but it have to be smart about it. I also hate it when she sees me not doing well. I think that is just guilt from her seeing me with cancer since she was in 5 th grade. The upside is..I have gotten a ton of knitting done since I do nothing but sit around on my screen porch when I am not working..lol
And my dog is just getting over being sick...bad intestines since Tuesday. She is 14, and
we are lucky she wakes us up when she has the diarrhea...poor thing. Got meds for her today...so,maybe we will all sleep tonight.
I know...you are all thinking....stop typing already ...ok I will .....having trouble falling asleep
Night night

Thanks Susan, for that story about your MIL.... I know they should help her in some way, other than keeping her in that house!
I guess they think since she has a house-keeper once a week, someone to take her to beauty shop, and church, and they take her shopping and give her showers, that she doesn't need to leave .... yet!
But if it were my Mom, I would talk to her about WHERE she will go, if something happens... We did that a little, and I asked her if she could go live with them, and she said "they didn't ask me."...
It's just too bad that she is either subconsciously trying to get MORE attention or help, or just really having issues with her health.
Okay, I think I have it figured out how to transfer data & programs I really want to keep, like iTunes, Picassa, the Screen-saver that I paid for, etc.....
I transferred that stuff over to a little flash-drive! I could have bought a transfer cable, to move programs, but I don't WANT to keep all the programs I have now, so the ones I want, I can plug that flash-drive in, and use them when I WANT them, and not fill up my new computer with all those files!
It will be nice to start out with everything new... like it was when I got THIS computer....
I also have a disk that will wipe all data clean, when I want to take this computer up to this recycle place.
Where is that Cammi? I think we scared her away! She sure hasn't pitched in with any help with this computer talk, Ha!
And Blessings, do you wear hearing aids? Are you okay now?
Susan, about your trip.... can you stop about every hour to take a break? Or how long are you planning to stay with her?
Can your dog make it okay?
I've been reading all you other guys...
Littlepaws, I know this will be different with Windows 8.... But when I bought THIS one, with Vista, I just LOVED it, and all the different features! So I'll just get used to it, I guess.... I hope...
22222222T! Geez, glad you are getting your mud-flaps removed... I can just picture that.... I keep rubbing my hip/leg, and that scar-tissue has really smoothed out... still hurts, but not like it used to!
Love your Pics Nettie!
Did I post this before? It is that beautiful fireworks display from China.
-
Oh Wait! Blessings, I'm so sorry you fell! Man, even if you didn't break anything, it just shakes the begeezus out of you! Sometimes it takes a few days to feel "normal" again! And a hard HIT like that anywhere, will take a few days to recover from... Can you use heat on your hip, or places that hurt? And how about Tylenol or something for bruising?
-
yeah Chevy, I can stop. I was staying till Friday and then she is coming back with me, then taking the train back on Monday. So she can drive me home. She is coming back with me cause I bought tickets to "the tomato throw" here in chicago. It's at soldier field and everyone throws rotten tomatoes at each other...ha ha.....I love doing stupid things that make me laugh. I can also stop at 2 hours and stay over night. If I had too. Or take the train..I have options....just don't want to go up there Nd the. I can't do anything but sit around...she wouldn't care...my issues...
Wish I could help u with computer...I would be the last person on the planet to know anything. Hubby just got a new dell a month ago. Nice lap top...huge screen...and switched to exfinity ( I think), and everything is real fast. My cousin bought me an I pad 2 yrs ago, that is what I use. But my friends who are awesome with techy stuff, said they had to relearn a lot of stuff with windows 8, hubby got 4 yrs of tech support with the computer. He has been on the phone a lot...lol
Sas...hope you feel better today
Blessings, hop you feel better too...stay on those feet
Happy Sunday to all
-
oh, and do dog is staying home with hubby...she got though the night last night without going to the bathroom. Think we are on the upswing......she was going to come with, but the kids don't have air conditioning . At 14, I didn't want her uncomfortable with the heat.
-
Food Morning computer nerds.
Blessing I'm so sorry about u'r fall, it's a PITA I fall all the time but thankfully in slow motion so I can adjust the fall--I do everything slow, but when u go down quckly u can really get hurt as we know like Chevy. U have to be extra careful.
Susan I hope u can go to Mich. tomorrow it would be such a great time there, but if u'r not up to it, u know best.
And this comp talk is crazy for me--I know my computer can do all kinds of things but damn if I know how. And if it goes in the clouds no one know how to reverse it. Now I've heard so many peeps say they hate windows 8""" But as my DD1 said once u get used to it it's grest, except when someone comes in new if they don't know it she teaches it to the, Well she can't teach me not everyone is teachable she thinks everyone is, She Is so not like me, she's actually a lot of fun, but at work nothing is acceptable but the best--oh so not me, she must be horrible to work with, everything was always good enough for me.
Nettie was that u'r pic--I forgot now who, but whoever it is the pics were lovely and so was the furbaby. I'm sorry I'm not around as much but it's been a little goofy here everything is basically fine but just screwed up.
BTW Chevy I would be panicky if I had responsibility for a neighbor so I give u credit for valor or for being recockulous. Poor woman needs full time help.
OKey Dokey I'll close for now anyway try to be back later.
-
mornin' owls, see why I'm holding onto my old PC? The trouble a new one can create. But I do like the tip about putting the programs/files you want on a flash drive to re-install later.
Sassy, hope you slept OK. Lions & tigers & shards oh my.
Blessings, sorry about vertigo, how vexing and affects yr QOL.
Susan, hope you have fun throwing tomatoes at yr DD LOL.
2TA, my mx scars are 9 inches each, from midline to under my arms, but are fading over the years. Glad yr mudflaps are gone.
♥ to all
-
good morning ladies. I see y'all are still talking in a foreign language (computer talk ). I'll just smile and nod like I usually do when I don't understand. :-)
I have also been wondering what a pita is ? Too embarrassed to ask before but hey can't learn if don't ask, right? I finally looked it up today. Ah ha now I understand. Learn something new everyday. Guess I am already done for the day now.
Susan -where is lake Zurich ? I used to live in champaign- Urbana. I tell my children all the time we grew up without air conditioning and they simply can't comprehend that. Oh the good old days. We lived in the country on the top of a hill. We just left the windows open and the front door open ( so wind came through screen door ) all the time. I seriously don't remember sweating and we certainly didn't worry about someone coming in and killing us at night. No way I would do that now.
Hope everyone has a great day
-
Just lost my post
Patty, Lake zurich is 35 miles northwest of chicago and 45 minutes away from wisconsin on the lake geneva side.
Badger, yes I will have fun...hubby will be there also. But he used to pitch semi pro ball, so I will stay out of his way....it will be interesting how we clean up before getting into the car..hope we get cool pictures.
this is the sweater I just finished
-
Susan, pretty sweater, you are very talented.
Bring lots of towels LOL or maybe a change of clothes?
Reminds me of those color runs, where you get hit with colored corn starch at various stations along the route. Start out white and end up a rainbow. Try getting THAT out of the upholstery.
-
Susan - wonderful sweater. Great job.
-
Blessings - so sorry to hear about your fall. Please get to the doctor soonest to find out what's wrong!!Chevy - my MIL got a Windows 8 computer. I set it up for her and was ready to throw it in the ocean. She got a Windows 8 for dummies book AND went to a short class that was offered somewhere or other. She really likes it now. There is apparently a way to make it act like Windows 7. I haven't given up my Windows 7 laptop yet, but will probably have to purchase a new one over the next year. (I'm holding out as long as possible) and whenever you get a new 'puter - you get the latest software - so maybe Windows 9 will be out by the time we purchase.
As for browsers, I use IE and Chrome interchangeably. I like them both. IE used to be more worrisome, but the later versions have all been pretty safe. I have Mozilla on my PC as well, but don't use it quite as much. It's VERY VERY important to keep your computer and everything on it patched properly. So, if you don't stick with Microsoft's IE, be sure to set up your browser to patch itself. It's also really important to have good virus protection and spyware protection. Windows Essentials is pretty good. Avast is good. too. The free version, of course, doesn't give you as much as the one you pay for. Also, be sure to schedule a cleaning of your PC, so that it is scanned regularly - at least once a week. I use about four different "cleaners" on mine, as each has their own strengths. Something that Avast will miss, Windows Essentials might find, and vice versa.
-
Sas, will you still be doing Moffitt? Will call around 5-6 tonite
-
so happy to hear Phyllaluckygirls news!
Susan, beautiful sweater and love the color!
Blessings maybe talking to an OT or PT might be able to give you some tips or tricks for keeping your sea legs? That must be so frustrating and scary.
Speaking of "falls" had a great day yesterday kayaking with hubby and our dog. Then i went to a healing mass with a charismatic priest. I was pretty skeptical and didnt know what to believe. I was raised in a traditional (stuffy) catholic church. But I had a healing and i fell down! They have catchers so you dont get hurt. It was really an amazing experience.
-
FBB great you have a flotation device!!! Where is the pooches?
-
Good morning owlettes,
I'm so sorry you fell down Blessings and glad you're going to see the doc and find out what's causing this. Be extra careful, in fact just stay off your feet today and rest.
Chevy, I agree with you about learning the computer. When something is new and different it takes awhile to learn, but then it becomes second nature to us and easy.
Nettie, you and your family are beautiful, including your fur baby.
Susan, love the sweater you knitted. I wish you strength and energy on your trip tomorrow.
I know I missed a lot of you. I hope everyone enjoys their Sunday. Hugs to all. Hi 2nd
-
Blessings, So sorry about your fall! We have a friend who's concussion symptoms didn't show up for weeks, so your earlier fall could still be the culprit. I agree that an OT person might be able to give you lessons on safer walking. I seem to be able to trip over my own feet; hard to get rid of that obstacle.
FBB, What kind of dog is that? Shiba inu? That just looks so relaxing.
-
Oh wait! You guys didn't tell Peppermint what a PITA was! Ha, ha! It stands for Pain In The A$$! And boy that's what she is! But she hasn't called today.... yet.
When I look back over the years, she has ALWAYS been the same! Mostly because she is dependant on EVERYbody, sicnce she chose to never drive. But now her DH is in a Home, because he can't take care of himself, so she has no-one to talk to.... except her family and me....
I should get her some movies.... Ha! She said she can't get the Playboy channel like she used to!
And NO, I did NOT tell her about that!
FBB! Do you feel "different?" WTH happened? It sounds like an exorcism, and I don't even believe in those! They probably hit you over the head like with a rubber mallet! Just go sit in a chair, before you do that again!
Spookie.... I think most dogs can swim! Can't they? Except THAT one looks pretty leery!
LittleGardens.... I figure if I just learn one or two things a day, I can master it in no-time...! I am used to Windows anyway.... I just want to make sure all the extra stuff is saved, on that flash-drive, and I don't have to download it onto my new computer... I'm going to look up why people don't like Windows 8 so much.....
Beautiful sweater Susan! That takes talent.... and the ability to "count" I suppose.... When I crochet those scarves, I only have to count to 12.... Ha
Badger.... That was funny! Lions, and Tigers, and shards, oh my! Like from her stones! At least I got it!
I am just a whiz. Can't WALK worh a lick, but I am trying to pay more attention as to WHAT I am about to step on! It is just too easy to twist your ankle, on something that springs up in your path....! See.... something like THIS! I mean it could make your ankle twist, and down you go!
-
I just downloaded a book.... Windows 8 for Dummies! It was free from the Dell on-line chat I talked to! A Dell Pocket Book! Maybe you guys with Windows 8 would like that?
