Such a beautiful photo Ducky. Who knew you'd have so many kids in that photo!

I remember the slinky. I bought one for the kids to play with here. They don't seem as sturdy as they used to though.

Gosh - I loved my Slinky!

Ducky - beautiful bride, handsome groom....

We didn't get our first TV until I was in Kindergarten. Before that, I used to stand on my neighbor's porch and peer through their living room window when my favorite shows were on. When we got our own TV, my mom figured out pretty quickly that I needed glasses, since I was sitting six inches away from the screen.

Oh, and to go with the TV, there were these fabulous dinners...

Blessings, those TV dinners bring back lots of memories for me!!

My favorite was the beef mystery meat with mashed potatoes and corn.

Plus, we had those TV trays we used to eat off of. They already had TV when I came along - it wasn't color though.

Blessings......thanks.......just wanted to show what the 1950's  bridal gowns looked like compared to what they wear today......strapless in church to me is inappropriate, but they allow it..........not in my day.......even the top of my gown was considered low.....

Navy........welcome and thank you........wish I could say he was still here, but he passed away almost 23 years ago..........

Thanks Jo...........my mother used to get angry because the soles on my shoes always came off from the hook that held the skate on...so I had to wear the same shoess everytime i skated....LOL

Maureen......I have 3 daughters........2 of them wore my wedding dress...the third one was too tall..5ft 8in, so it was not long enough.....the other 2 were just 5ft.3.............

Ducky, our TV trays weren't as fancy as those!! Ours looked more like this one.

    image

We also had the sick in bed trays. My daughter took the one I had when she moved to Nor Cal. It reminded her of home.

Melissa, I loved that skate song!!!!! Thanks for that memory.....I forgot about that song.

Every Sunday night, my parents would take us to visit our grandparents.  While the adults ate dinner around the table, all of the kids would sit and eat off TV tables in the living room and watch The Ed Sullivan Show.  I remember watching this on February 9, 1964.  How in the world was that 50 years ago?

I know what you mean AZ...I could not believe that 50 years have gone by since I watched the Beatles debut on Ed Sullivan either. Sigh....so many years flying by so quickly. While change is good, some of the changes I have seen I could do without for sure.

The Beatles.....my son and I were just talking about how we're probably the only two people on the planet who don't like the Beatles. In grades 7 and 8, though, every time someone had a house party, someone would run home and get their 45rpm of "Hey Jude" because it meant you could slow-dance with the cute guy for seven whole minutes! Girls are so sneaky.

Oh man, AZ! Why'd you go and post that? I was a hard core Beatlemaniac, but we had only one tv and it was in my parents' bed/sitting room. I wasn't even permitted to watch that one show. I was despondent, scarred for life, I probably still haven't recovered, maybe that's what my problem is...
