LOL – that post of the blogger and that Yale Study don’t
represent the study at all!  Kind of
ironic that both the poster and the link demonstrate exactly what the study
author Kahan was trying to demonstrate.  What we see and what we want to so badly
believe are sometimes in opposition.

When study participants were presented with "fake
studies," they would more likely to want to pick the wrong conclusion
(despite their ability to do the math on the fake numerical outcomes of those
studies) that matched their political beliefs if the study, for instance,
involved subjects like gun control, e.g..  If the studies involved
subjects like rashes and hand cream usage, the subjects were more likely to
interpret the fake results correctly.

This worked equally
for Conservative and Liberal study participants.  The real crux of the study showed that the
higher one’s numerical abilities, Conservative or Liberal, the more likely the participant
would dig further into the numbers to try and come out with a conclusion that
matched his/her beliefs.

The
link posted over there was by a Conservative blogger who twisted the true
conclusions of the study, probably by focusing on one "fake study"
presented to the participants that showed only liberals getting to the wrong
conclusion due to their biases. The blogger worked pretty hard to refute the
real conclusions!

I will add, think about Nate Silver’s POTUS election
predictions that had Romney loosing by several % points in 2012.  I don’t need to be reminded how that same
group of posters would dispute that over and over and go to the one outlier
poll that supported their beliefs of Romney winning the election.  Guess it is pot calling kettle black time.

I’m having grave problems with my computer and had

208Sandy - thanks,  wondered what people were referring to - now I know where it came from, I'm sorry I took the trouble to ask.  But thank you for letting me know I didn't miss a thing ;-)  I'll have to stop asking...so sorry to learn people are still wasting their time with that garbage..but, to each her own.

I don't think it is wasting my time to correct a false post or sooth my own curiousity (and possibly others).   Others will read it and will assume some blogger (because of what?) is correct  << well, one poster already did.  I was curious, so I read it.  I realized the blog had no details of the study, just one falacious conclusion.  We are all different that way Sunny.

Now, I could just assume some posters are always wrong and some TV network always lies, but I like to test out my assumptions once in awhile and frankly, just based on my own anecdotal evidence of TPers and the fact it was a Yale study (Scientific Method employed) I was darn curious about the actual study.

No surprise, more lying and/or convolution of facts from the Right.

C4C - never had (most of these) problems until they changed the toolbar.  Since we are becoming a Macworld, more and more, these days, would it make sense to shut us Apple users out?  The problem has been going on far too long at this point - ergo, incurable?

C4C - I've been having other problems since they've loaded the toolbar - coincidence?  The Rainbow wheel of death.  I just ran the disk repair utility in hopes it will help.  Hate to blame BCO for this, but things were running rather smoothly until then.

Morning Gals!

It's already up to 70 degrees this morning ... and climbing. Lots of rain forecast for the next two days.  Think I'll open the windows for a while.  The almanac forecast a very bad winter for us this year, but so far it's been really mild.  Just a few cold days.

Didn't sleep well last night ... I think it was too hot.  Need to get busy and get moving as Tim will be home soon.

Blue, the trees (not just the treetops) are glistening here this morning, even without sun!  Very pretty, but icily treacherous.  Our power was out for a couple of hours in the middle of the night...now all the clocks need resetting, grrh!

What it is about some people that they always need to be fighting a war?  I'm referencing this phony "War on Christmas", of course.  Too much darn bellicosity going on.  

Have a lovely holiday with you and yours, Sandy!  And for all the slow ones who criticize some of us for saying "Happy Holidays", they DO need to be reminded that the word holiday actually means holy day, etymologically speaking.  Somehow or other, some folks simply think of a holiday as a vacation.......

My "radio" son was just called in to the station in Toronto to do a special on the weather situation there.  It looks like a lot of trees were thinned out!

Power went out here in middle of the night (4 a.m.) but came right back on - friend at one end of Oakville (near Mississauga) hasn't had power since 4 a.m. but her son who lives 10 minutes away has power - the lights here have been flickering again recently - I was going to bake shortbread but perhaps I'll hold off and read instead.  Stay warm and safe everyone!

Wow!  You guys up north really got slammed.  Ice is so scary ... would rather it just snowed.

Lassie ... Please be careful ... don't go out and pick up limbs if it's still icy.  That's something I would do ... and I'd probably fall on my ass.  It's raining hard here and I have the windows open!

Blue ... Hope your daughter gets the power back on quickly.  It's hard to entertain to babies with no power.  Do they have a fireplace where they can burn some wood?  What's all this stuff about atheists?

PiP ... Hope your son is okay driving into work.

Carrots ... I'm not at war with Christmas.  Down here in the south all the folks say Merry Christmas ... so that's what I say too.  But the cards I send out say happy holidays.  I have lots of Jewish and non-believing friends. I'm trying to get in the Christmas spirit ... I'm smiling at everyone in walmart, helping the old people, wishing people well, etc.  This holiday season is my reminder to "give back."

No worries about my son driving.  He walked to the station.   I don't think his wife would have let him drive even if he did have a car!
