Interesting insight to the behind the scenes of the shut down.

I especially liked the part where the republicans asked Cruz's aide to explain the laws and rules of the House to him. -
Hi, Glenna, hope you are doing well. I think the Dems do have a person, Chris Van Hollen - so far more than 3 million people have watched his YouTube I posted a few pages ago - he has the same ability Pres Clinton has, of explaining a complex subject so most people can understand it. I say most, cuz I'm increasingly aware so many people have CHOSEN not to understand.
Pip - thanks for the links - I hadn't read them yet, beginning almost makes me feel sorry for Boehner, almost, not quite! Loving the Dem unity, and support for President to stand firm. I was a bit shocked to see how early in his administration he chose to address the issue of health care, now I see why, and how WISE he was, to get it established as soon as politically possible. It's been close to 50 years of trying, think we're about the last "developed" country to deal with it - giving everyone access to quality, affordable heal care. Seems so basic.
Climate change way up on the "agenda" for me - it was in the high 70's here yesterday. Now that IS strange.
Hope furbabies are doing well, also LARGE ( horse sized) ones too ;-) -
Hi All, just a little update on Chloe. Upping her anti-anxiety meds has really helped her sleep at night, which, of course, helps moi sleep too. I have about a week of drops left to clear up her ear infection. Then we move on to steroids, for her suspected brain tumor. The vet promised she would give her a steroid that does not cause hyperactivity and sleep problems. Fingers crossed that is the case. She's getting every treat known to man and dog in an effort to fatten her up. Salmon and cheese are on the menu every day. Talk about spoiled! In general, she's trucking along, holding her own.
I'm breathing a sigh of relief that we've moved back off the fiscal cliff. And it's good McConnell has stated there won't be another shut-down. Sunny, I agree that our first priority SHOULD be climate change. Too bad Obama did not mention it in his short list of goals for his second term. Maybe it's just too big to take on immediately. Pip, I'm going to look at your links later today.
Hope everybody has an awesome Thursday! -
Yorkie, I hate to bust your balloon - but today is FRIDAY!!!! Thursday is over, in the dust bucket, gone!!! But I do hope that everyone has a stupendously marvelous FRIDAY. (emotican of laughter)
RL - I hope your vacation(s) have been staggeringly grand, and the flights gentle and not at all nerve rattling. We miss you!!! -
The TPGOP continue their descent into irrelevance, disfavor and eventual (with any luck) obsolence...

Negative views of the tea party have nearly doubled over the past two years, making the conservative movement more unpopular than ever, according to a Pew Research survey released Wednesday. Forty-nine percent of Americans now view the tea party unfavorably, while just 30 percent view it favorably -- an 11-point drop since just this June.
The loss of esteem crosses party lines. A bare majority of Republicans still view the tea party favorably, while 30 percent of independents and 13 percent of Democrats do.
About a third of Republicans said the tea party is part of the Republican Party, rather than a separate movement, according to the poll.
The ideological split is evident on several questions; Republicans, regardless of tea party affiliation, said in the poll that they wanted to see smaller government and think it's important to protect gun rights. But more than 90 percent of tea partiers took these positions, compared to just under 70 percent among Republicans not affiliated with the movement. Just 23 percent of tea party Republicans said it's essential to raise the debt limit, compared with 43 percent of non-tea party Republicans.
The poll also found that Ted Cruz, one of the most prominent tea party faces in the recent government shutdown, has seen his favorability soar among tea party supporters -- from 47 percent in July to 74 percent today. However, among non-tea party Republicans, he's at just 25 percent. House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell saw their unfavorability ratings rise among tea party and non-tea party Republicans alike, according to the poll.
The Pew poll surveyed 1,504 Americans by phone between Oct. 9 and Oct. 13, 2013.
A Gallup poll released before the start of the shutdown found that support for the tea party was at 22 percent, nearly the lowest it has been since the movement's beginning. -
Smile, it really is a good world. -
Lol, GG, I just realized that and was about to edit! My DH is out of town until Sunday. I really do get a little disoriented, out of whack, when he's gone. Ah, well, I like Friday better than Thursday, so it's all good! : ) -

Sure glad people are getting back to work and I know they are too. I'm selfish....I admit it. I wanted my social security check in November too. I'm that much of a taker. Of course, just because I worked for it for many years before I got it.
I think Ted Cruz would be far better off if he would fade into the back ground somewhere. Of course, he won't. What you get when 1/2 is delusional and the other 1/2 very stupid, is someone who can walk around never realizing that he doesn't count for much. Oh, yes, he did shut down the government. Come election time in 14' and 16' I'll be watching how many people thank him for it. In fact, outside of he and his small GOP group ( many people are discounting them now as being a part of the GOP ) no one is too happy with that one.
Sunny -- I enjoyed your link...a lot. I'd have to look it up now ( it is always easier for me to forget than remember ) the heyday of random acts of kindness. We are here to make each others life a bit easier. No wonder the GOP has been based and trashed -- mainly due to the extremist end of the party. So, just great to see caring still exists for someone you don't even know who is going through a bad time.
Donna, like you.....I'd like to see the whole of the T. Party dissolve. They are not conservatives. They are strong-arm thugs and rather clueless ones. If you are unable to understand poll numbers ( maybe Carnival can thank/blame Faux Fox for their help on that one ) and how to repeal a law etc. then you don't belong where you are in government.

It is still early but I had a fair amt. of hope already....reading this just makes it sound all the better.

Jackie, unfortunately Mr. Cruz is a Senator and so is not up for relection until 2018....
He'll be around for a number of years to create havoc unless he drops his Senate when he runs for President (don't we wish....). -
Bren - so glad you had such a wonderful time with the boys
Yorkie - good to hear news of Chloe - hope the steroids help when they start her on them
Just had my fur baby trying to wake me up by walking by my head on the bed, so I gave in and got up for her to go out. We finally got some rain yesterday - hoping for some more soon. -
Another interesting bit, with timing not so great. Seems some irregularity with donated money. Cruz says he can straighten it all out. We will see. Unfortunately it looked like my link would not work but I think it would be easy enough to find. Does not sound truly serious right now. I'll be watching for more though.

Suzie, are the wildfires still going strong? -
Yorkie - I think they are under control now but they have high temps predicted for this weekend so they could get more fires - we are in a different state to the north. The bad thing about the fires is that they were probably started by someone throwing a cigarette but out of a car. Due to lots of rain last year, the undergrowth had flourished and with no back burning done (blame the greenies) and strong winds, it creates a perfect fire situation. -
Well, I'm very glad it is under control. Those pictures looked very scary. Australia seems prone, as is California, to these fires. And yeah, one ignorant jerk usually does light the fuse. -
The Australian bush is by nature very flammable - in fact a lot of the native species actually germinate by fire. It's been going on since time began - maybe people shouldn't build where there is so much fire danger. -

This is my good boy Tank ... he looks like a big seal!
Hope all the sick pets are feeling better.
hugs,
Bren -
Bren, I forgot to tell you how cute your grandsons are! They seem to be about the same age as two of mine, 13 and 10. The other is 5. Your furbaby does look like a seal! He's adorable! -
Hi Yorkie!
My grandsons are 6 (Nicholas) and 9 (Isaac). Actually, Nicky will be 6 next week. I hope your family lives near you so you get lots of time with your grands. I love them at this age ... they still like hanging out with grandma!
hugs,
Bren
PS .. hoping Chloe is doing better tonight. -
Bren, we all live in the same town. Grandma's house is babysitting central! They all still like to be with me, even the 13 y/o (don't know how much longer that will last).
Chloe is having a snooze. I need to wake her up soon to give her the night meds. -
Salon does a little fact-checking about guests on Hannity. Unfortunately, Hannity doesn't.... -
C for C... Too bad no one will call them out on these interviews. -
Journalists huh!!!!! REALLY
Blue, I loved your roses.
I'm off to the store and major cooking for a get together tomorrow. I seem to have spoiled people. That's why I'll be taking four different things and Peanut Butter Pie for dessert.
