Rhonda and Globalgirl.
I am thinking of you ladies today and am hoping that you are feeling better and enjoying the weekend!!!! -
Thank you Shoppygirl. How are you doing?
I had a 5-hr oncology visit on Friday, which makes 11 hours at the hospital in the past week. I got an excisional biopsy of the lump under my arm so we can see what the (skin mets) tumor is like. Underarm is sore but I did NOT want to rest. DH took me to an Italian festival at a winery today. I had biscotti AND gelato. And stopped at a salon afterward for pedicures.
I hope everyone is having a beautiful weekend, with lots of shopping adventures. I thought about all of you as I sat in the sun and wished I could share the light and warmth with all my shopping sisters. :-) -
Rhonda
So glad that you were able to have some fun today especially after everything you went through this past week.. I love biscotti and gelato!! Pedicures are fun, I actually had gel nails put on today, purple sparkles with one silver sparkle nail on each hand.
I am doing well, I have finally completed my treatment. What a relief as now I can focus on getting my DH better. He was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer 2 months after me. What a crazy year this has been but we are getting through it. He is actually doing very well but still has 5 more chemo's to go. Of course we are concerned about our situation as we have 2 children that are 10 an 14. Anyway we are being positive that things are going to be ok. The drs seem to feel that way so that is good!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend. -
Shoppygirl, Your nails sound gorgeous. (Mine are purple right now. Wish I had thought of silver!) A nice way to celebrate end of chemo.
Are you tolerating Tamoxifen OK so far?
I am so sorry that both you and DH have had chemo so close together. I have a 15-yr-old son and dread telling him of my impending chemo. I'm sure the love you and your DH have is helping your kids feel stronger. It is definitely good news that the doctors share your positive outlook for the future. Let the healing continue, surely and quickly! -
Yes the Tamoxafin seems ok. Of course the hot flashes are terrible but I am willing to live with that!
I hope your upcoming chemo is gentle on you. You have already been through so much. It is amazing how strong and resilient our kids are. I am not happy to have BC but it has made me to appreciate every special moment in my life much more than before. Tonight while I was on my walk I actually felt truly happy for the first time in 9 months since all this started. I hope that it continues. Take care. -
Glad to hear it, Shoppygirl. Your body has been thru a lot and if a treatment is too difficult, tell your MO right away. Stage IV has brought many blessings in to my life. Wishing you many many moments of happiness. Year after year. :-)
-
Hi Ronda, I am so sorry for what you have been through but I sure hope they can use those biopsies to figure out something to help. You sure make the best of each situation! And what a sweet husband you have, he seems awesome.
Global and shoppy I hope you are feeling better too.
Enjoy Sunday everyone. I have been out riding my new coaster bike yard saling! DH even went with me, we got some fun stuff including packages of mardi gras beads for our trip to New Orleans in december. And now off to brunch.
Happy Sunday! -
OMG Im just found this thread and Im laughing so hard!
I live in a rural area and my PS is in Barrington of which I have to drive past quite a few major stores/shopping centers round trip and ever since my BMX when I go for appoints for follow up and my fills EVERY TIME I have also have perscribed retail therapy for myself!! Thank goodness my husband hasnt been home from work yet when I unload my vehicle.
Honestly during our 20 yrs of marriage I never really bought stuff for me, always him or the kids. Daughter now lives with fiance and son is off at college and well he is just a grumpy old fart. SO this lady is having fun spoiling herself!
-
Cate
Welcome !!! So glad you found this thread! It's lots of fun and has lifted my spirits many times. Glad to hear that you are treating yourself and you are not getting caught doing it!! Lol!! -
Hi Catey-welcome!
Yes we have a number of strategies to sneak our goodies into the house, as you can see. DH not even being home yet is the easiest one- good for you!!!
Please share info on some of the purchases when you can- we all love to live (and shop) vicariously! -
Well today I go for another fill (hoepfully my last) which of course means shopping !!!! Only thing is my husband was rained out at work, so he will be home when I get back and may not get much time at the stores
Oh and lets just say I have discovered a shoe fettish I never used to have. All my life I avaraged owning maybe 4 pairs of shoes at a time. Since BC and my "therapy? I now have about 25 pairs in my closet.
Last weeks find was a pair of Black Coach Boots for only $59.00 for me and a pair of Black Coach shoes for me daughter for $29 SCORE!!
Oh I forgot to mention, I think my daughter is secretly wishing for me to be a size 38XXXXXXX because Im also buying her things when Im shopping after Dr appts
-
Ahhhh... Catey...a shoe fettish???? Now you're talkin'!!! Hope those Coach shoes are unbelievably comfortable too!!! Nothing like a good pair of designer, comfortable and ridiculously inexpensive shoes to run around in! One thing I learned after active treatment is that I need comfortable shoes to run around and do EVERYTHING that I want to do! And if running around includes running around to find great shoes.... Then so be it!!!
And on those days that I can't run around, there's always shoe porn. What's shoe porn???? That's looking at Nordstrom's comfort shoe department's website OR Turnpike Comfort Shoe's website! Shoe fettish? Shoe porn! -
Coach boots for $59???? What a great deal!! . I am currently in beautiful Canmore, Alberta attending my sales meeting. I should be listening to a fascinating presentation on the company's cheese business but instead I am hiding in the back typing this message! Lol. Just went back to work two weeks ago and am having a hard time focusing!!! Anyway I was able to buy the cutest pair of leggings here. They are black with a very subtle silver pattern. I think they will look great with a black tunic and black boots. Well, back to the meeting!!! Hugs to all!!
-
Pray tell where did you get that great deal on Coach boots, cateyz. Envious! Wow. I've been boot shopping for 2 years and can't find the right pair. Tried on some Cole-Haan and Adrienne Vittadini today. No luck. Want something with a heel to wear with skirts or jeans.
I went to White House/Black Market and bought some "slenderizing pants" (leggings). When I get my PET scans you can't wear metal and it's just easier to dress without zippers. I've been wearing the same pair of yoga pants for 2 years to my scans. Figured it was time for a new pair. Hope to go boot shopping in NYC when I'm there next week for my oncology stuff at MSK.
Happy shopping, everyone, and when applicable, happy sneaky shopping!
👠👗👜👢😃 -
Found the Coach boots at Ross's, its like a TJ Maxx/ Marshalls. Have gotten quite a few great buys there including a couple Michael Kors dresses
-
I LOVE Ross. Great score Catey!
Sadly they don't have stores everywhere- when I lived in St. Louis they did not have one, I missed it so much. It was great to come back to California where there are plenty.
Marshalls and TJ Maxx are close though!!!
Happy shopping to all -
Cate,
My older daughter also finds tons of shoes at Marshalls. I don't usually find much because I'm too petite...:(
It's hard to find size 5 1/2 shoes in the department stores for me! But I do find petite clothes/shoes at Nordstrom Rack sometimes.
I just bought the most gorgeous wine colored suede how heeled shoes at Macys yesterday! ! They are Giani Bernini, the shoe box says "York Leepur / Plum"...It's ALWAYS A SCORE for me when I find shoes I love & they actually have the 5 1/2 in stock!!!! They have a muted silver decoration on the top of the toe box...love 'em! I MUST take a pic w my phone & figure out how to post HERE.
I held a pair of wine colored BCBG suede pumps w a delicate thin ankle strap. ..BOTH are fabulous w jeans...:) I might go back & get the pumps...but I Really need to pay off my Nordstrom account first...sigh.
Love hearing about all of your finds...:)
Violet -
Violet those shoes sound lovely. I love an ankle strap -- I can move a lot faster when my ankle is a little more stabilized. I have narrow heels and "fall out" of my high heel pumps. Would love to see shoe pics!
The Ross here is dreadful, used to love the one in Dallas. Catey I 💗 M Kors.
I've hit TJMaxx and Stein Mart and still no sexy black boots. Gonna try Marshall's tomorrow. We have a discount store in our area called Rugged Wearhouse. Same as Gabriels in the Northeast? I think TJMaxx just bought it. They have a lot of Jones New York, Calvin Klein, really cheap. I got a $300 J Crew navy long silk dress there for $20 awhile back. Today I got a pair of purple lace tights for $1. And 4 pairs of Marilyn Monroe lacy unmentionables on the clearance rack for $6 total. -
SCORE Ronda and Violet- your purchases sound awesome!!!
We are going out to brunch on the boat and then I am hoping to hit Macys and Ross, depending on how long the day gets on the river.
Thanks for sharing your finds!!! -
Any luck Sciencegal?
How about the rest of you shoppers? What's in YOUR bag? 👗👝👠💄👢👖👚 -
Rhonda and Violet it sounds like you got some great stuff! Science gal I hope you found something nice! I love Ross and Macy's! Hopefully we will travel to Tacoma to visit my SIL at Xmas and I can hit up those stores too!
I was able to pop into the Laura outlet in between sales calls and I got a beautiful wool red knee length winter coat. It was regular $400 and I got it for $120!! Quite the deal and it will be perfect for those minus 30 winter days!! I was even able to beat my husband home so I could stuff it in the closet without him seeing it!! Lol!!
Hope everyone had a great weekend and is keeping well! -
Just returned from a visit to Montral. At the border I declared a $23 jersey sweater that I purchased at Winners. Such a good girl! Tomorrow I am heading to Austin with the DD for a few days. Younger son lives there and there are 2 Nordstrom's Rack near his home. One is 2 minutes, in traffic from his home. We're also going to visit Karavel Shoes... My third favorite comfort shoe store! I'm already tingling at the thought of trying on shoes! Never mind I get to see my son...Ok! So I can't wait to see him too! He also loves Nordstrom's Rack! He's in glorious heaven there too because they have so many size 14 shoes to select from!!!!
-
Voracious I hope you had fun shopping!
Great score on the coat Shoppy. Isn't it funny how, once new clothing items are IN our closet, our DHs dont notice that they are new? You would think a killer new red coat might be noticed but nope. I guess they just figure it is something we have always had and randomly decided to pull out of the depths. Too funny. I did this with a leopard coat with black fuzzy cuffs last fall and thought for sure it would be flagged as new. Nope!
LOL
As for my Sunday Ross trip, I got some killer black shorty spike-heeled boots with silver studs on the sides- LOVE them! Definitely for restaurant visits, not work. OR shopping days.
I need to figure out how to do the picture upload later when I am on my laptop, it is hard on the tablet. photos to come.
Shoppy we would love to see that red coat too. Tarheel Michelle (Ronda)- you have it down- LOVE your picture of the robe that your sweet husband got you. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
Happy Tuesday -
Yay Shopping Girls!
More later, I'm out of town...saw Oncologist yesterday...looking for new pain specialist, meantime gonna try Lidocaine patches. ..;)
Violet -
Hello everyone. I am in NYC getting tests and consult at Sloan-Kettering. I saw my blood test results online this morning and my tumor markers, which I never even looked at before, didn't look good at all. So I went shopping. :-). I always love to share my finds, but tonight I just wanted to say thanks to you for sharing YOUR retail therapy with me. It helps me keep my mind off the cancer/the progression/the tests/the treatment. Y'all really do brighten my days. Wish I could have met you all in the shoe dept at Century 21 here in NYC today! Keep shopping, keep sharing and keep shining!
-
Rhonda
Great big healing hugs to you! I hope that they can find a treatment to keep this beast at bay! I would of loved to join you at century 21! I would give you a huge hug, we would go shopping and then I would take you for lunch in Rockefeller Plaza if they have not started to put the ice rink in yet!l
Lol!! I have only been to New York once, two years ago, but it was so amazing. My big regret was that I did not get to go to the big Macy's! There were four of us girls that went and we just did not have time. We did go shopping in Soho where I purchased my first pair of Lucky Brand Jeans. I have been hooked on them ever since!! I received a call from my doctor today to advise that they want to do a biopsy on a thyroid nodule that they found on a follow up ct scan I had! Not happy about that so to make myself feel better I went shopping. I purchased a sparkly dark purple tunic that I can wear with leggings and tall boots! Very fun. I plan on wearing it as soon as my horrible , painful radiation burn is better. I hope the rest of your trip and consult goes better. I am thinking of you. -
Do NOT miss the Enselow shoe store on Park Avenue South between East 32 and East 33rd Streets. The BEST shoe store in the world for the MOST comfortable shoes! I was there last Sunday with my close friend. She dropped $400 on 3 pairs of the most comfortable sandals. All on sale! Would have paid $700 if they weren't on sale.
I'm down in Austin now and stopped by Karavel shoes. Their selection is on par with Enselow's.... Only Enselow has a larger assortment!
Enjoy Manhattan! You're visiting at the most beautiful time of year! Hope your visit to Sloan gives you hope and peace of mind! -
Oh...I LIVE In Lucky Brand jeans! Hope your scan is ok and the rad burn eases, Shoppy.
Tarhee,
Must be tough for you...I'll be thinking good thoughts. Sooo, whatcha buy?...;)
Apparently my insurance doesn't want to cover the Lidocaine patches. .the pharmacist is working on it...;) Oy!
Violet -
Thanks y'all. Violet, that is just STUPID about your insurance balking on covering lidocaine patches!! Really! There are other pain relief methods so I hope you get something. Shoppygirl, good luck with your biopsy. I just had an excisional with an underarm lump. It's sore and itchy now. There's just too much unpleasantness with BC. Pain, worry, biopsies, tests. Thank heaven for purple sparkly tops and shoes. VoraciousR, thanks for the shoe recommend, I'll try to get down there today.
XOXO -
Oh yes!!! I am a thrifter (besides being an antiques/vintage items dealer) so retail therapy is a MUST! It's a good thing!
