Sciencegal, I know what you mean! I've been too busy shopping to post! I have new combat boots, dresses and sweaters but no time to post. I'm headed to NYC next week and I'm going to make DH take pics of me so I can share. (I don't usually dress up, so going to NYC gives me a great reason to wear all my new clothes.)
Anybody else have pics or shopping news to share? If not, I'll just keep looking at GlobalGirlyGirl's Gucci!!! -
I've been a BCO member since 2010 and am just finding this topic~~where have I been?! I've enjoyed reading about all your shopping adventures and treasures. I am a shopper and always looking for bargains, but I'll shop anywhere. My husband likes to say that I look for meaning in life through shopping. My latest finds have been Tahari black flats, 9West skinny black jeans ($15 at TJMaxx), black & white Calvin Klein skirt (orig $89 for $18) at Macy's. I can find bargains there on clearance and using my frequent shopper coupons. I didn't do as much shopping when I was in treatment, so I'm making up for lost time! Currently, I'm looking for the perfect pair of flat black riding boots to wear to work with skirts and tights.
When I was in chemo and wearing a wig, I went to TJMaxx just to buy something...anything. I took my wig off and hung it on the dressing room hook to try on a top. As I was struggling with the top, I knocked the wig off the hook and it slipped under the stall to the next dressing room! Thankfully, no one was in there and I could crawl under and grab it back.
I like lipsticks and my best cosmetic finds have been Benefit Fake Up, great under eye concealer and Benefit Eye Bright, highlight pencil. I've tried a zillion lipsticks and my current weekend favorite is Burt's Bees tinted lip balm in Hibiscus, not as heavy as lipstick but nice, subtle color. I think the Body Shop shea butter lip balm is the greatest right before bed. I live in a cold climate and lip/skin/hair dryness is always a concern.
My current favorite perfume is Daisy by Marc Jacobs. I also like D&G Light Blue, but so does everyone else. My tried & true perfume is Nude by Bill Blass. It's hard to find now so I usually order it on Fragrancenet.com. I also use Body Shop Moringa & Shea Butter body butters and soaps.
Thank you for all the great shopping posts and pictures! Gina -
Gina welcome to this very fun topic! Love to hear about your purchases and the wig story! Lol! Reminds me of when I was at The Bay a few weeks ago and I wanted to try something on but the line up for the changing room was too long. I decided to slip the top on over my clothes at a mirror in the middle of the store. Of course that was the day I forgot to tape my wig on and when I was pulling the shirt off I pulled my wig off too!!! Thank goodness no one saw and I was able to quickly put it back on!! The things we do for fashion! -
Vor:
Hate when that happens!
I recently found some great socks at Nordstrom Rack...;)

Today I went for my thyroid biopsy and felt quite depressed after. I was supposed to go back to work but instead I headed to Winners and found the cutest pine green suede boots and matching sweater. The boots are totally not practical for Calgary's snowy, slushy weather but I love them and they really cheered me up!
Now I need to not panic too much while waiting for the biopsy results!! -
Good luck Shoppygirl!!! The boots sound great.
My friend who has had melanoma in the past had this crazy lumpy thyroid and was scared to death, and it turned out that they often just get weird looking on scans. It ws totally okay. I am sure hoping for the same for you!
Hugs

Just checking in to see how my fellow shopaholics are doing. Hope you are well and are buying a lot of nice stuff. -
Ohhhh, my Nordie's Personal Shopper... I LOVE her!!! Last year, I had finally finished reconstruction, and lost 60 pounds. She stood there in the dressing room, surrounded by a thousand articles of smaller-sized clothing, hugged me and cried tears of joy with me.
Of course, then I had to purchase a whole new wardrobe, including bras-that-cost-the-moon, AND the entire line of NYDJ jeans in every style and color.
The AI's have caused a little weight gain, so I'm not so eager to buy clothes right now.
Instead, we bought an RV, new bedroom furniture, and had a home office installed in the den. Clothes will have to wait.
I've combined my favorite activity - Retail Therapy - with my least favorite activity: exercise.
Now when I shop, I fill my cart with necessities, then take 3 or 4 extra laps around the entire store at top speed. If I'm doing this at Costco, I get a great upper-body workout. I call it Retail Aerobics.
Loving all your stories, Ladies!!!!

Hmmmm. Guess my latest "purchase" was my revision to smaller implants. I. Love. Them.
AND because of their awesomeness I have been able to go "shopping" in my closet and wear things I haven't worn in over a year. Free shopping!!!
Oh! I also got another vintage tablecloth on ebay. -
Blessings
That is amazing that you lost so much weight. I lost 20 lbs after my dx but now I am seeing some of it come back. Oh well, back on the salads for me!!
Dulcigirl congrats on the new implants ! So glad you are happy !
I received the results of my thyroid biopsy and it was benign, thank goodness! Thanks Science Gal for your kind words. I just saw your post today. Of course I had to chase down the results myself as for some reason my doctors do not feel it necessary to give them to me in a timely manner!
I am currently in Vancouver visiting my mother and I have done quite a bit if shopping. I was even able to get some stuff for my mother. That is a miracle as she is so particular about everything! My favourite purchase for myself is a pair of tall Franco Strata black boots. Suede on top and leather in the bottom. They a modern cowboy style. Great deal at $129 at Winners! Love them!
Hope everyone is having a good weekend with lots of retail therapy! -
Welcome Gina - have you found your riding boots? I love that style. Equestrian preppy.
Blessings - Haha Retail Aerobics!! I love it. Yeah I loathe exercise myself, but I do my minimum daily requirement.
Dulci - Congratulations on your new girls.
Vintage tablecloths. Nice. Table linens always make the dining set look so much nicer.
shoppy - Oooh boots with suede on top and leather on the bottom? Very nice combo.
I've been buying a lot lately. I made some big changes - diet, exercise, etc. I'm revamping my entire wardrobe to match the new me. Thank God for the Macy's Veterans Day sale and eBay.
Has anyone seen Rhonda? I wanted to tell her that if she's going to Sloan Kettering now, there's an outlet center about an hour outside NYC - Woodbury Commons. If she's feeling up to it, that's one of the best in the country.
-
global.... I beg to differ with you regarding Woodbury Commons. IMHO... BIG TIME Tourist Trap! -
Really? My partner loves it there and suggested it. I know they even have tour groups that come, but I think it's because they have some really nice stores - like Chloe and Balenciaga. -
Really!!! Some of the merchandise that is sold there is made exclusively for those shops. As long as you know that ... happy shopping. I used to drop by there... but not any more. I can score better merchandise with better prices elsewhere. And you're right about the bus loads of tourist shoppers. Yuk! -
Oh yeah I definitely know that there are purses made exclusively for the outlets. I'm not in NYC - other coast.
I like Nordstrom Rack myself. And online shopping more than anything else. Haha. -
I have been wondering about Rhonda too. Hope she has just been too busy shopping to post! -
hey everybody! It's nice to be missed. ☺️
Been traveling. I went to NYC for a week so I could see DH run his first marathon. Great to have a week with no scans or doctor visits. Then was in Asheville last week celebrating 2nd anniversary. So trying to catch up. Has anyone else used the Poshmark app? I just discovered this (designer labels, mostly resale but lots of new with tags merchandise). I've been drooling a lot over there.
I don't think I'd have the energy to do the outlet shopping GlobalGirlyG, but I would definitely check it out. I'm well aware of how outlet store quality is usually subpar, as voraciousreader noted, but I have good luck at some, like Ralph Lauren.
It sounds like so many of us are having to play catch up when we shop because of weight losses or gains, or chest changes. I hate to complain about weight loss since I've battled excessive pounds all my life ... But I do get tired of baggy clothes.
White House/Black Market selected me to receive 2 free dresses. Should arrive on Monday. All I have to do is fill out a survey on whether I like them. Don't know how I got selected but FREE brand new clothes are always good news.
Happy shopping everyone! Please post pics!! -
Last week I treated myself to a Verilux lamp. Bought one a few weeks ago for the other voracious reader in my life, my 88 year old mom. She had been complaining about needing a new reading lamp, so I headed to a lighting store and bought her one. She loved it so much that I bought one for myself. It is awesome! I can read an additional 50 pages more a day before my eyes tire! What a treat! -
are the lamps expensive? -
Yay Rhonda!
So happy to hear from you!! How exciting about the dresses! You deserve them!!
Hugs to all
Btw, how do you posts photos on this site? I can't figure it out!! -
$100 for a floor lamp and half of that price for a table model. They're worth a million bucks! -
thanks for the info, v.reader. Sounds wonderful to have top quality illumination.
Shoppygirl, it may vary depending on whether you are using an phone or laptop, but to post a photo you look for the photo icon above the reply area for text. The icon resembles a picture. When you click on it, it should give you the option to choose a photo.
There are more detailed instructions elsewhere on the boards. It wasn't too hard for me to figure out, so it's not that hard, if I can do it. Hope to see some shopping pics from you soon. -
Thanks Rhonda! -
Glad to see you Rhonda! How awesome is it to be selected for the dresses!! You definitely deserve them, and White House Black Market has some really cute stuff!!
And yay on the lamps voracious!! -
Well ladies heading out today to do some "therapy" with my daughter at a fairly new outlet mall just west of Chicago!!! Hoping for some great finds! -
Hi ladies, bought some lovely Christmas jumpers today for my son and his girlfriend, might just get one for myself......xx -
Hi Kaza,
Get it- you deserve it! (we tend to enable one another here - haha, but it is true- we DO deserve rewards)
Ronda congrats on those dresses- super cool!!!
My best friend and I have birthdays just four days apart (Nov 11 and 16) and since she has been by my side through every step of the way in this cancer journey (and headed up my cold cap tem) and always wears a pink ribbon bracelet, I got her the Chan Luu pink/green beaded wrap bracelet that is always pictured on this site. It ties a bit oddly but is pretty.
Then I had to go onto my Amazon prime account and put a wrap bracelet for myself into my "wish list" cart so that my hubby could find it and buy it for me. he did! Mine is more rock and roll: black, silver and crystal. Loving this style right now.
Happy shopping all!

Sciencegal
