mum, they are spectacular...thanks..
-
mumito-beautiful shots. Love the young owl!
-
Husband and I on a mini-vacation in Gettysburg saw an eastern bluebird, cottontail rabbit, and serenaded by cicadas while touring the Soldiers' National Cemetery. Also, saw a black racer snake at Little Round Top, and saved a box turtle from getting squished in the road.
-
Teka, a little of everything!
-
One advantage of an overgrown yard is a flock of Bewick's wrens. They are tiny and cute and their tails stick up.
-
You've a love for wrens!
-
Wren, we have them too. They are so cute!
-
Husband received photos of this albino hummingbird in an email.
Cute!
-
Love it
-
this guy just loves to guard the golf course
-
Your post reminds me ------
We saw a few red-tailed hawks soaring in the skies over the Gettysburg Battlefields.
-
Red tailed Hawks very common here in Southern Ont.
-
Black Hawk I would not mess with this guy.

Snail Kite

Peregrine Falcon with prey

Red tails are very common in North Texas. I had a pair behind house on the creek this spring.
Don't know the reason why but we have an abundance of bluebirds this year. Spring was cool, late freeze, July was wayyy cooler than normal with good rains until late month. Late July/early Aug. has been unbearable hot/mostly dry. Some showers but mostly just humidity makers. Grasshoppers are more plentiful this year though. Wonder if that's why. I finally saw a roadrunner the other day in front yard. Proudly carrying off a huge grasshopper. Keeping drapes closed mostly to keep heat out so know I miss a lot. Supposed to have seasonable temps (mid 90s) next week with increased rain. Waiting for November. Got stack of mags in mail Sept/Oct. Oh Yeah. Go fall!
Mumito - Love TinyFishy's pics. Had to look up snail kite.
-
Mum I always love the pix!

Seattle has a pair of peregrine falcons who nest at the top of one of the buildings downtown. The building across from it has a cam on the nest, so you can watch them feed their chicks.
-
Yesterday, I heard the indigo bunting and now to see the little songster before migrating for the Winter. Here is a thought for the last week of August. Don't let Summer pass by without a little unexpected fun.
-
Stellar jays and a flicker in our front yard.
-
We've an abundance of blue jays year round, and only saw 1 northern flicker in the Spring which was done in by a hawk.
Do you've an abundance of stellar jays?
-
I visited a friend last week and there were some red tailed hawks and others putting on a show
up close and personal..right off her deck....rats, I did not have my camera
-
You take lovely photos, but cannot always be at the ready with a camera.
I'm sure you enjoyed the show. ;o)
-
Teka, The area has an abundance of jays, but they're not so usual in town. We had flickers in the spring and then saw this one recently. Mostly we have chickadees and wrens and (ugh) crows. We see hawks from time to time. Two peregrine falcons nest on top of one of the downtown buildings and the building across has a cam trained on the nest.

Labor Day Weekend!!!
Damn, end of Summer.
I'm starting to see birds flocking.
-
I have never seen this bird b4 but I saw a Baltimore Oriole just outside the backyard yesterday. It was coming a light rain and it was feeding on the lower elm branches flying in and out. I would probably not have noticed it among the yellowing leaves except that I saw it fly in just as I happened by the backdoor. I saw more birds yesterday in the rain than I've seen all summer. That was only the 2nd largest rain we've had all year per local news and the 1st was in January. Can you say drought?
-
We only see baltimore orioles when the apple trees are in bloom.
*drought and flood* ;o)
The wind is whipping up the dry leaves and spooking Teka.
-
I'm sure they're migrating. Haven't seen one for a week or two and we've had them all spring and summer.
-
Across the Fence is the longest running daily farm and home television program in the country. Across the Fence is a 15 minute program produced by University of Vermont Extension. I especially enjoy watching Bird Notes with Mark LaBarr, Conservation Biologist with Audubon Vermont. According to him the ruby-throated hummingbirds will probably migrate no later then October. I still have a feeder to help them eat more to gain weight that will be valuable energy for their upcoming long flight. I saw a female hummer earlier in the week!
I am hearing less and less Summer birds!
