Wow - I bought him at a local pet store almost 9 years ago and was hatched there. He is a character! Eats everything we eat... and if you don't share, he will scream until you do or fly onto you!
The only downfall, he is "a one bird house".... when my folks bring over their cockateil (for us to babysit) he pouts and hides in his house the entire time the other bird is there.
He immitates the blue jays very well - it's neat in the warm months when the doors and windows are open. It's like he calls them over to our cherry tree just outside his window.

Sweet bird, with a loving home!
-
Wow that is quite an unusual pet.He is beautiful.I bet he would intimidate any local bird.
Teka love the kitty photo. He is a caracter just like my kitty.
We are back in Cold Canada again but only for a week or so.Not sure if I posted this yet or not it was taken locally here in Whitby Ont right after an ice storm we had here this winter.

mumito - your pictures are beautiful!!
Teka - love your cat

There are many states that list several species of pet birds as "pests" or as the monk or quaker parakeet "highly dangerous". Basically they are worried that if the birds escaped they could naturalized and displace wild species or harm crops. The Quaker colonies in NY city are probably to blame.
Wow, great junco photo!

Thank You, for the information!

Ladies,
I'm just loving the pictures and how this group is growing. Is Teka a Maine Coon, we have two that are indoor cats. I have to tell you our large male is a high white with a large tuff. For some reason the birds are amazed by him they come right up to the sliding glass doors and will peck and wake him up he then puts his head to the glass and birds will put there heads to his like a head bump. I want to get a picture of this but the birds fly away everytime I get near.
I'm sharing some birds that my daughter took pictures of that
free fly throughout the Academy of Science Building.

Teka, Love the sun conure they are so loving and such clowns. Here is my bird story to share we had a blue crowned conure that my daughter bought (We (the bird and I) shared the same birthday). Got her as a baby and she was so lovely, but she fell in love with our Scottie dog. Every morning she would wake us all buy calling Sassy, Sassy, when we would go out Sassy would jump up and lay next to Heidi's cage and she would be on the bottom with her head on hers. Well we were moving back to California and Sassy had motion sickness couldn't go in the car without getting so sick. She became a therapy dog and we were going to come home with Heidi. Well we walked Sassy to the Center where she would live and work and not worry about having to go to vet they would now come to her. So that night Heidi would not eat, would not talk she just hid in her little sling, next day same thing. So I took her to the vet, he said she's mourning the loss of her friend, she might die from being separated. I called the nurse at the center and asked if by any chance they would love a bird for the children and told her what the vet said. The moment we were carrying the cage in there sat Sassy. Heidi called to her and she ran right up to the cage, Heidi began eating and drinking singing and calling Sassy. They both are still together and happy. Sometimes what we think are going to be our lifelong pets end up being a pet who is to help others more than us.

I know what you mean------------My niece knew a family that no longer wanted a macaw, so my then young Daughter brought the bird home. I promised the mother of the young child, no longer able to care for the bird, that I would return the bird if to much for our home. Macaw was one mean bird. So we thought!
When mother and daughter came to take back the bird, macaw and daughter hugged.
Family just needed a time out from the bird.
Lucky for the macaw and daughter, I kept my word and returned the bird.
There was one individual asking me for the bird to keep at a place of business.
My now adult Daughter learned a good lesson.
